1. Determination of the titanium spectral function from (e, e′p) data

Abstract: The E12-14-012 experiment, performed in Jefferson Lab Hall A, has measured the (e,e′p) cross section in parallel kinematics using a natural titanium target. In this paper, we report the analysis of the dataset obtained in different kinematics for our solid natural titanium target. Data were obtained in a range of missing momentum and missing energy between 15?pm?250 MeV/c and 12?Em?80 MeV, respectively, and using an electron beam energy of 2.2 GeV. We measured the reduced cross section with ∼7% accuracy as a function of both missing momentum and missing energy. Our Monte Carlo simulation, including both a model spectral function and the effects of final-state interactions, satisfactorily reproduces the data.

Abstract: The E12-14-012 experiment, performed in Jefferson Lab Hall A, has measured the (e,e′p) cross section in parallel kinematics using a natural argon target. Here, we report the full results of the analysis of the data set corresponding to beam energy 2.222 GeV, and spanning the missing momentum and missing energy range 1 pm 300 MeV/c and 12 Em 80 MeV. The reduced cross section, determined as a function of pm and Em with ≈4% accuracy, has been fitted using the results of Monte Carlo simulations involving a model spectral function and including the effects of final state interactions. The overall agreement between data and simulations turns out to be quite satisfactory (χ2/d.o.f.=1.9). The resulting spectral function will provide valuable new information, needed for the interpretation of neutrino interactions in liquid argon detectors.

Abstract: We present a study of the decays B0→D0K*0 and B0→D̄0K*0 with K*0→K+π-. The D0 and the D̄0 mesons are reconstructed in the final states f=K+π-, K+π-π0, K+π-π+π-, and their charge conjugates. Using a sample of 465×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC, we measure the ratio RADS[Γ(B̄0→[f] DK̄*0)+Γ(B0→[f̄]DK*0)]/[Γ(B̄0→ [f̄]DK̄*0)+Γ(B0→[f]DK*0)] for the three final states. We do not find significant evidence for a signal and set the following limits at 95% probability: RADS(Kπ)

Abstract: We report on a Dalitz plot analysis of B-→D+π-π- decays, based on a sample of about 383×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. We find the total branching fraction of the three-body decay: B(B-→D+π- π-)=(1.08±0.03±0.05)×10-3. We observe the established D2*0 and confirm the existence of D0*0 in their decays to D+π-, where the D2*0 and D0*0 are the 2+ and 0+cū P-wave states, respectively. We measure the masses and widths of D2*0 and D0*0 to be: mD2*0=(2460.4±1.2±1.2±1.9)MeV/c2, ΓD2*0=(41.8±2.5±2.1±2.0)MeV, mD0*0=(2297±8±5±19)MeV/c2, and ΓD0*0= (273±12±17±45)MeV. The stated errors reflect the statistical and systematic uncertainties, and the uncertainty related to the assumed composition of signal events and the theoretical model. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report the results of a search for Z(4430)- decay to J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- in B-,0→J/ψπ-K0,+ and B-,0→ψ(2S)π-K0,+ decays. The data were collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider operating at center-of-mass energy 10.58 GeV, and the sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 413fb-1. Each Kπ- mass distribution exhibits clear K*(892) and K2*(1430) signals, and the efficiency-corrected spectrum is well described by a superposition of the associated Breit-Wigner intensity distributions, together with an S-wave contribution obtained from the LASS I=1/2 Kπ- scattering amplitude measurements. Each Kπ- angular distribution varies significantly in structure with Kπ- mass, and is represented in terms of low-order Legendre polynomial moments. We find that each J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- mass distribution is well described by the reflection of the measured Kπ- mass and angular distribution structures. We see no significant evidence for a Z(4430)- signal for any of the processes investigated, neither in the total J/ψπ- or ψ(2S)π- mass distribution, nor in the corresponding distributions for the regions of Kπ- mass for which observation of the Z(4430)- signal was reported. We obtain branching-fraction upper limits B(B-→Z-K̄0,Z- →J/ψπ-)

Abstract: We present measurements of the semileptonic decays B-→D0τ- ν̄τ, B-→D*0τ-ν̄τ, B̄0→D+τ- ν̄τ, and B̄0→D*+τ-ν̄τ, which are sensitive to non-standard model amplitudes in certain scenarios. The data sample consists of 232×106Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider. We select events with a D or D* meson and a light lepton (=e or μ) recoiling against a fully reconstructed B meson. We perform a fit to the joint distribution of lepton momentum and missing mass squared to distinguish signal B̄→D(*) τ-ν̄τ(τ-→-ν̄ντ) events from the backgrounds, predominantly B̄→D(*)-ν̄. We measure the branching-fraction ratios R(D)B(B̄→Dτ-ν̄τ)/ B(B̄→D-ν̄) and R(D*)B(B̄→D*τ- ν̄τ)/B(B̄→D*-ν̄) and, from a combined fit to B- and B̄0 channels, obtain the results R(D)=(41.6±11.7±5.2) % and R(D*)=(29.7±5.6±1.8)%, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic. Normalizing to measured B-→D(*)0- ν̄ branching fractions, we obtain B(B̄→Dτ-ν̄τ) =(0.86±0.24±0.11±0.06)% and B(B̄→D*τ- ν̄τ)=(1.62±0.31±0.10±0.05)%, where the additional third uncertainty is from the normalization mode. We also present, for the first time, distributions of the lepton momentum, |p*|, and the squared momentum transfer, q2. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present constraints on the angle γ of the unitarity triangle with a Dalitz analysis of neutral D decays to KSπ+π- from the processes B0→D̄0K*0 (B̄0→D0K̄*0) and B0→D0K*0 (B̄0→D̄0K̄*0) with K*0→K+π- (K̄*0→K-π+). Using a sample of 371×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector at PEP-II, we constrain the angle γ as a function of rS, the magnitude of the average ratio between b→u and b→c amplitudes. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present measurements of the time-dependent CP-violation parameters S and C in the decays B0→ÏKS0, B0→ωK0, reconstructed as ωKS0 and ωKL0, and B0→Ï€0KS0. The data sample corresponds to the full BABAR dataset of 467Ö106 BB- pairs produced at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The results are SÏKS0=0.55-0.29+0.26Â±0.02, CÏKS0=-0.52-0.20+0.22Â±0.03, SωK0=0.57Â±0. 08Â±0.02, CωK0=-0.08Â±0.06Â±0.02, SÏ€0KS0=0.55Â±0.20Â±0.03, and CÏ€0KS0=0.13Â±0.13Â±0.03, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. These results are consistent with our previous measurements and the world average of sina 2 measured in B0→J/ KS0. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a study of the charmless semileptonic B-meson decays B+→ωl+ν and B+→ηl+ν. The analysis is based on 3.83×108 BB̄ pairs recorded at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The ω mesons are reconstructed in the channel ω→π+π-π0 and the η mesons in the channels η→π+π-π0 and η→γγ. We measure the branching fractions B(B+→ωl+ν)=(1.14±0.16stat±0. 08syst)×10-4 and B(B+→ηl+ν)=(0.31±0.06stat±0. 08syst)×10-4. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We search for charmless decays of charged B mesons to the three-body final state KS0KS0π+. Using a data sample of 423.7fb-1 collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector, corresponding to (465.1± 5.1)×106 BB̄ pairs, we find no significant signal and determine a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction of 5.1×10-7. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present new measurements of time-dependent CP asymmetries for B0→D(*)+D(*)- decays using (467±5)×106 BB̄ pairs collected with the BABAR detector located at the PEP-II B Factory at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We determine the CP-odd fraction of the B0→D*+D*- decays to be R =0.158±0.028±0.006 and find CP asymmetry parameters S+=-0.76±0.16±0.04 and C+=+0.00±0.12±0.02 for the CP-even component of this decay and S =-1.80±0.70±0.16 and C =+0.41±0.49±0.08 for the CP-odd component. We measure S=-0.63±0.36±0.05 and C=-0.07±0.23±0.03 for B0→D+D-, S=-0.62±0.21±0. 03 and C=+0.08±0.17±0.04 for B0→D*+D-, and S=-0.73±0.23±0.05 and C=+0.00±0.17±0.03 for B0→D+D*-. For the B0→D*±D decays, we also determine the CP-violating asymmetry A=+0.008±0.048±0.013. In each case, the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The measured values for the asymmetries are all consistent with the standard model. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We use a sample of 384×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider to study angular distributions in the rare decays B→K* + -, where + - is either e+e- or μ+μ-. For low dilepton invariant masses, m 3.2GeV/c2, we measure AFB=0.76-0.32+0.52±0.07 and FL=0.71-0.22+0.20±0.04. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: A Dalitz plot analysis of approximately 13000 Ds+ decays to π+π-π+ has been performed. The analysis uses a 384 fb-1 data sample recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage ring running at center of mass energies near 10.6 GeV. Amplitudes and phases of the intermediate resonances which contribute to this final state are measured. A high precision measurement of the ratio of branching fractions is performed: B(Ds+→π+π-π+)/B(Ds+→K+K-π+)=0.199±0.004±0. 009. Using a model-independent partial wave analysis, the amplitude and phase of the S wave have been measured. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Semileptonic B̄ decays to DXν̄ (=e or μ) are selected by reconstructing D0 and D+ combinations from a sample of 230×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC. A global fit to these samples in a three-dimensional space of kinematic variables is used to determine the branching fractions B(B-→D0ν̄)=(2.34±0.03±0.13)% and B(B-→D *0ν̄)=(5.40±0.02±0.21)% where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. The fit also determines form-factor parameters in a parametrization based on heavy quark effective theory, resulting in ρD2=1.20±0.04±0.07 for B̄→Dν̄ and ρD*2=1.22±0.02±0.07 for B̄→D*ν̄. These values are used to obtain the product of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vcb| times the form factor at the zero recoil point for both B̄→Dν̄ decays, G(1)|Vcb|=(43.1±0.8±2.3) ×10-3, and for B̄→D*ν̄ decays, F(1)|Vcb|=(35.9±0.2±1.2)×10-3. © 2009 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present measurements of the CP-violation parameters S and C for the radiative decay B0→ηKS0γ; for B→ηKγ we also measure the branching fractions and for B+→ηK+γ the time-integrated charge asymmetry Ach. The data, collected with the BABAR detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, represent 465×106 BB̄ pairs produced in e+e- annihilation. The results are S=-0.18-0.46+0.49±0.12, C=-0.32-0.39+0.40±0.07, B(B0→ηK0γ)=(7.1-2.0+2.1±0.4)×10-6, B(B+→ηK+γ)=(7.7±1.0±0.4)×10-6, and Ach=(-9.0-9.8+10.4±1.4)×10-2. Abstract: We present branching fraction measurements for the radiative decays B+→ρ+γ, B0→ρ0γ, and B0→ωγ. The analysis is based on a data sample of 465×106 BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We find B(B+→ρ+γ)=(1.20-0. 37+0.42±0.20)×10-6, B(B0→ρ0γ)=(0.97-0.22+0. 24±0.06)×10-6, and a 90% C.L. upper limit B(B0→ωγ)

Abstract: We present a study of hadronic transitions between Υ(mS) (m=4, 3, 2) and Υ(nS) (n=2, 1) resonances based on 347.5fb-1 of data taken with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings. We report the first observation of Υ(4S)→ηΥ(1S) decay with a branching fraction B(Υ(4S)→ηΥ(1S))=(1.96±0.06stat±0.09syst) ×10-4 and measure the ratio of partial widths Γ(Υ(4S) →ηΥ(1S))/Γ(Υ(4S)→π+π-Υ(1S))=2. 41±0.40stat±0.12syst. We set 90% CL upper limits on the ratios Γ(Υ(2S)→ηΥ(1S))/Γ(Υ(2S)→π+π- Υ(1S))

Abstract: We present an investigation of the decays B̄0→Λc+p̄ and B-→Λc+p̄π- based on 383×106 Υ(4S) →BB̄ decays recorded with the BABAR detector. We measure the branching fractions of these decays; their ratio is B(B-→Λc+p̄π-)/ B(B̄0→Λc+p̄)=15.4±1.8±0.3. The B-→Λc+p̄π- process exhibits an enhancement at the Λc+p̄ threshold and is a laboratory for searches for excited charm baryon states. We observe the resonant decays B-→Σc(2455)0p̄ and B-→Σc(2800)0p̄ but see no evidence for B-→Σc(2520) 0p̄. This is the first observation of the decay B-→Σc(2800) 0p̄; however, the mass of the observed excited Σc0 state is (2846±8±10)MeV/c2, which is somewhat inconsistent with previous measurements. Finally, we examine the angular distribution of the B-→Σc(2455)0p̄ decays and measure the spin of the Σc(2455)0 baryon to be 1/2, as predicted by the quark model. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report a study of B±→D*K± decays with D* decaying to Dπ0 or Dγ, using 383×106 BB̄ pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B Factory. The D meson decays under study include a non-CP mode (K±π), CP-even modes (K±K,π±π), and CP-odd modes (KS0π0,KS0,KS0ω). We measure ratios (RCP±*) of branching fractions of decays to CP eigenmode states and to flavor-specific states as well as CP asymmetries (ACP±*). These measurements are sensitive to the unitarity triangle angle γ. We obtain ACP+*=-0.11±0.09±0.01, RCP+*=1.31±0.13±0.04, and ACP-*=0.06±0. 10±0.02, RCP-*=1.10±0.12±0.04, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic. Translating our results into an alternative parametrization, widely used for related measurements, we obtain x+*=0.11±0.06±0.02 and x-*=0.00±0.06±0. 02. No significant CP-violating charge asymmetry is found in either the flavor-specific mode D→K±π or in B±→D *π± decays. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We perform a time-dependent and time-integrated angular analysis of the decays B0→φK*(892)0, φK2*(1430)0, and φ(Kπ)0*0 with the final sample of about 465×106 BB̄ pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. Twenty-four parameters are investigated, including the branching fractions, CP-violation parameters, and parameters sensitive to final-state interactions. We use the dependence on the Kπ invariant mass of the interference between the scalar and vector or tensor components to resolve discrete ambiguities of the strong and weak phases. We use the time evolution of the B→φKS0π0 channel to extract the CP-violation phase difference Δ 00=0.28±0.42±0.04 between the B and B̄ decay amplitudes. When the B→φK±π channel is included, the fractions of longitudinal polarization fL of the vector-vector and vector-tensor decay modes are measured to be 0.494±0.034±0.013 and 0.901-0.058+0.046±0.037, respectively. This polarization pattern requires the presence of a positive-helicity amplitude in the vector-vector decay from a currently unknown source. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present the observation of the decay B0→χc0K*0 as well as evidence of B+→χc0K*+, with an 8.9 and a 3.6 standard deviation significance, respectively, using a data sample of 454×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B meson factory located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). The measured branching fractions are B(B0→χc0K*0)=(1.7±0. 3±0.2)×10-4 and B(B+→χc0K*+)=(1.4±0. 5±0.2)×10-4, where the first quoted errors are statistical and the second are systematic. We obtain a branching fraction upper limit of B(B+→χc0K*+)

Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fractions for the Cabibbo-favored radiative decay D0→K̄*0γ and the Cabibbo-suppressed radiative decay D0→ γ. These measurements are based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 387.1fb-1 and recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- asymmetric-energy collider operating at center-of-mass energies 10.58 and 10.54 GeV. We measure the branching fractions relative to the well-studied decay D0→K-π+ and find B(D0→K̄ *0γ)/B(D0→K-π+)=(8.43±0.51±0.70)×10-3 and B(D0→ γ)/B(D0→K-π+)=(7.15±0.78±0.69)×10- 4, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first observation of the decay mode D0→K̄*0γ. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a search for the decays B→K*νν̄ using 454×106BB̄ pairs collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II B-Factory. We first select an event sample where one B is reconstructed in a semileptonic or hadronic mode with one charmed meson. The remaining particles in the event are then examined to search for a B→K*νν̄ decay. The charged K* is reconstructed as K*+→KS0π+ or K*+→K+π0; the neutral K* is identified in K*0→K+π- mode. We establish upper limits at 90% confidence level of B(B+→K*+νν̄)

Abstract: We measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0→KS0π0γ decays for two regions of KS0-π0 invariant mass, m(KS0π0), using the final BABAR data set of 467×106 BB̄ pairs collected at the PEP-II e+e- collider at SLAC. Abstract: We study B0→ρ0ρ0 decays in a sample of 465×106 Υ(4S)→BB̄ events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider located at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC). We measure the branching fraction B=(0.92±0.32±0. 14)×10-6 and longitudinal polarization fraction fL=0.75-0.14+0. 11±0.05, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The evidence for the B0→ρ0ρ0 signal has a significance of 3.1 standard deviations, including systematic uncertainties. We investigate the proper-time dependence of the longitudinal component in the decay and measure the CP-violating coefficients SL00=(0.3±0.7±0.2) and CL00=(0.2±0.8±0.3). We study the implication of these results for the unitarity triangle angle α. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of neutral B mesons to K±ππ0. With a sample of (231.8±2.6) ×106Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC, we measure the magnitudes and phases of the intermediate resonant and nonresonant amplitudes for B0 and B̄0 decays and determine the corresponding CP-averaged branching fractions and charge asymmetries. The inclusive branching fraction and CP-violating charge asymmetry are measured to be B(B0→K+π-π0)=(35.7-1.5+2.6±2.2) ×10-6 and ACP=-0.030-0.051+0.045±0.055 where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. We observe the decay B0→K* 0(892)π0 with the branching fraction B(B0→K*0(892)π0)=(3.6-0. 8+0.7±0.4)×10-6. This measurement differs from zero by 5.6 standard deviations (including the systematic uncertainties). The selected sample also contains B0→D̄0π0 decays where D̄0→K+π-, and we measure B(B0→D̄0π0)=(2.93±0.17±0.18)×10-4. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using 385fb-1 of e+e- collision data collected at center-of-mass energies around 10.6 GeV, we search for time-integrated CP violation in the Cabibbo-suppressed decays D0/D̄0→π-π+π0 and D0/D̄0→K-K+π0 with both model-independent and model-dependent methods. Measurements of the asymmetries in amplitudes of flavor states and CP eigenstates provide constraints on theories beyond the standard model, some of which predict CP violation in amplitudes at the 1% level or higher. We find no evidence of CP violation and hence no conflict with the standard model. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using 214fb-1 of data recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEPII electron-positron collider, we study the decay Ds+→K+K-e+νe. Except for a small S-wave contribution, the events with K+K- masses in the range 1.01-1.03GeV/c2 correspond to mesons. For Ds+→ e+νe decays, we measure the relative normalization of the Lorentz invariant form factors at q2=0, rV=V(0)/A1(0)=1.849±0.060±0.095, r2=A2(0)/A1(0)=0.763±0. 071±0.065 and the pole mass of the axial-vector form factors mA=(2.28-0.18+0.23±0.18)GeV/c2. Within the same K+K- mass range, we also measure the relative branching fraction B(Ds+→K+K-e+νe)/B(Ds+→K+K- π+)=0.558±0.007±0.016, from which we obtain the total branching fraction B(Ds+→ e+νe)=(2.61±0.03±0.08±0.15) ×10-2. By comparing this value with the predicted decay rate, we extract A1(0)=0.607±0.011±0.019±0.018. The stated uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from external inputs. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: The properties of the Ξ(1530) resonance are investigated in the Λc+→Ξ-π+K+ decay process. The data sample was collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider operating at center-of-mass energies 10.58 and 10.54 GeV. The corresponding integrated luminosity is approximately 230fb-1. The spin of the Ξ(1530) is established to be 3/2. The existence of an S-wave amplitude in the Ξ-π+ system is inferred, and its interference with the Ξ(1530)0 amplitude provides the first clear demonstration of the Breit-Wigner phase motion expected for the Ξ(1530). The P1(cos θΞ-) Legendre polynomial moment indicates the presence of a significant S-wave amplitude for Ξ-π+ mass values above 1.6GeV/c2, and a dip in the mass distribution at approximately 1.7GeV/c2 is interpreted as due to the coherent addition of a Ξ(1690)0 contribution to this amplitude. This would imply JP=1/2- for the Ξ(1690). Attempts at fitting the Ξ(1530)0 line shape yield unsatisfactory results, and this failure is attributed to interference effects associated with the amplitudes describing the K+π+ and/or Ξ-K+ systems. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report on an improved measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating phase γ through a Dalitz plot analysis of neutral D meson decays to KS0π+π- and KS0K+K- produced in the processes B →DK, B →D*K with D*→Dπ0, Dγ, and B →DK* with K* →KS0π. Using a sample of 383×106 BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector, we measure γ=(76±22±5±5)° (mod 180°), where the first error is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty, and the third reflects the uncertainty on the description of the Dalitz plot distributions. The corresponding 2-standard-deviation region is 29°

Abstract: We report the measurement of the branching fractions of the rare decays B0→Ds(*)+π-, B0→Ds(*)+ρ-, and B0→Ds(*)- K(*)+ in a sample of 381×106Υ(4S) decays into BB̄ pairs collected with the BA?B?AR? detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- storage ring. We present evidence for the decay B0→Ds-K*+ and the vector-vector decays B0→Ds*+ρ- and B0→Ds*-K*+, as well as the first measurement of the vector meson polarization in these decays. We also determine the ratios of the CKM-suppressed to CKM-favored amplitudes r(D(*)π) and r(D(*)ρ) in decays B0→D(*)±π and B0→D(*)±ρ, and comment on the prospects for measuring the CP observable sin (2β+γ). © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a measurement of D0-D̄0 mixing parameters using the ratios of lifetimes extracted from a sample of D0 mesons produced through the process D*+→D0π+, which decay to K-π+, K-K+, or π-π+. The lifetimes of the CP-even, Cabibbo-suppressed modes K-K+ and π-π+ are compared with that of the CP-mixed, Cabibbo-favored mode K-π+ to obtain a measurement of yCP, which in the limit of CP conservation corresponds to the mixing parameter y. The analysis is based on a data sample of 384fb-1 collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We obtain yCP=[1.24±0.39(stat)±0.13(syst)]%, which is evidence for D0-D̄0 mixing at the 3σ level, and ΔY=[-0.26±0.36(stat) ±0.08(syst)]%, where ΔY constrains possible CP violation. Combining this result with a previous BABAR measurement of yCP obtained from a separate sample of D0→K-K+ events, we obtain yCP=[1.03±0.33(stat)±0. 19(syst)]%. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We report a Dalitz-plot analysis of the charmless hadronic decays of charged B mesons to the final state K±ππ±. Using a sample of (383.2±4.2)×106 BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector, we measure CP-averaged branching fractions and direct CP asymmetries for intermediate resonant and nonresonant contributions. We find evidence for direct CP violation in the decay B±→ρ0(770)K±, with a CP-violation parameter ACP=(+44±10±4-13+5)%. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: Using 230×106 BB̄ events recorded with the BABAR detector at the e+e- storage rings PEP-II, we reconstruct approximately 4100 B0→J/ψK+π- and 9930 B+→J/ψK+ decays with J/ψ→μ+μ- and e+e-. From the measured B-momentum distributions in the e+e- rest frame, we determine the mass difference m(B0)-m(B+)=(+0. 33±0.05±0.03)MeV/c2. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: The τ-→ηπ-π+π-ντ decay with the η→γγ mode is studied using 384fb-1 of data collected by the BABAR detector. The branching fraction is measured to be (1.60±0. 05±0.11)×10-4. It is found that τ-→f1(1285)π- ντ→ηπ-π+π-ντ is the dominant decay mode with a branching fraction of (1.11±0.06±0.05)×10-4. The first error on the branching fractions is statistical and the second systematic. Note that no particle identification algorithm is applied to the charged tracks to distinguish pions from kaons. In addition, a 90% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction of the τ-→η′(958)π-ντ decay is measured to be 7.2×10-6. This last decay proceeds through a second-class current and is expected to be forbidden in the limit of isospin symmetry. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a study of the decay B-→D(CP)0K- and its charge conjugate, where D(CP)0 is reconstructed in both a non-CP flavor eigenstate and in CP (CP-even and CP-odd) eigenstates, based on a sample of 382 million Υ(4S)→BB̄ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring. We measure the direct CP asymmetries ACP± and the ratios of the branching fractions RCP±: ACP+=0.27±0.09(stat) ±0.04(syst), ACP-=-0.09±0.09(stat)±0.02(syst), RCP+=1.06±0.10(stat)±0.05(syst), RCP-=1.03±0.10(stat) ±0.05(syst). We also express the results in terms of the so-called Cartesian coordinates x+, x-, and r2: x+=-0.09±0.05(stat)±0. 02(syst), x-=0.10±0.05(stat)±0.03(syst), r2=0.05±0.07(stat) ±0.03(syst). These results will help to better constrain the phase parameter γ=arg (-VudVub*/VcdVcb*) of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi- Maskawa quark mixing matrix. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present measurements of the decays B+→X(3872)K+ and B0→X(3872)K0 with X(3872)→J/ψπ+π-. The data sample used, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- asymmetric-energy storage ring, corresponds to 455×106BB̄ pairs. Branching fraction measurements of B(B+→X(3872)K+)×B(X(3872)→J/ψπ+π-)=(8. 4±1.5±0.7)×10-6 and B(B0→X(3872)K0)×B(X(3872) →J/ψπ+π-)=(3.5±1.9±0.4)×10-6 are obtained. Abstract: This paper reports measurements of processes: e+e- →γKS0K±π, e+e-→γK+K-π0, e+e-→γ η, and e+e-→γ π0. The initial-state radiated photon allows to cover the hadronic final state in the energy range from thresholds up to ≈4.6GeV. The overall size of the data sample analyzed is 232fb-1, collected by the BABAR detector running at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring. From the Dalitz plot analysis of the KS0K±π final state, moduli, and relative phase of the isoscalar and the isovector components of the e+e-→KK*(892) cross section are determined. Parameters of and ρ recurrences are also measured, using a global fitting procedure which exploits the interconnection among amplitudes, moduli, and phases of the e+e-→KS0K±π, K+K-π0, η final states. The cross section for the OZI-forbidden process e+e-→ π0, and the J/ψ branching fractions to KK*(892) and K+K-η are also measured. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present searches for the leptonic decays B+→ℓ+ν and the lepton flavor violating decays B0→ℓ±τ, where ℓ=e, μ, with data collected by the BABAR experiment at SLAC. This search demonstrates a novel technique in which we fully reconstruct the accompanying B̄ in Υ(4S)→BB̄ events, and look for a monoenergetic lepton from the signal B decay. The signal yield is extracted from a fit to the signal lepton candidate momentum distribution in the signal B rest frame. Using a data sample of approximately 378×106 BB̄ pairs (342fb-1), we find no evidence of signal in any of the decay modes. Branching fraction upper limits of B(B+→e+ν)

Abstract: We present for the first time a measurement of the weak phase 2β+γ obtained from a time-dependent Dalitz plot analysis of B0→D K0π± decays. Using a sample of approximately 347×106 BB̄ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy storage rings and assuming the ratio r of the b→u and b→c decay amplitudes to be 0.3, we obtain 2β+γ=(83±53±20)° and the equivalent solution at +180°. The magnitudes and phases for the resonances associated with the b→c transitions are also extracted from the fit. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a measurement of the branching fraction and photon-energy spectrum for the decay B→Xsγ using data from the BABAR experiment. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 210fb-1, from which approximately 680000 BB̄ events are tagged by a fully reconstructed hadronic decay of one of the B mesons. In the decay of the second B meson, an isolated high-energy photon is identified. We measure B(B→Xsγ)=(3. 66±0.85stat±0.60syst)×10-4 for photon energies Eγ above 1.9GeV in the B rest frame. From the measured spectrum we calculate the first and second moments for different minimum photon energies, which are used to extract the heavy-quark parameters mb and μπ2. In addition, measurements of the direct CP asymmetry and isospin asymmetry are presented. © 2008 The American Physical Society.

Abstract: We present a combined measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |Vcb| and of the parameters ρ2, R1(1), and R2(1), which fully characterize the form factors for the B0→D*- +ν decay in the framework of heavy-quark effective field theory. The results, based on a selected sample of about 52800 B0→D*- +ν decays, recorded by the BABAR detector, are ρ2=1.157±0.094±0.027, R1(1)=1. 327±0.131±0.043, R2(1)=0.859±0.077±0.021, and F(1)|Vcb|=(34.7±0.4±1.0)×10-3. The first error is the statistical and the second is the systematic uncertainty. Combining these measurements with the previous BABAR measurement of the form factors, which employs a different fit technique on a partial sample of the data, we improve the statistical precision of the result, ρ2=1.191±0.048±0.028, R1(1)=1.429±0.061±0.044, R2(1)=0.827±0.038±0.022, and F(1)|Vcb|=(34.4±0.3±1.1)×10-3. Using lattice calculations for the axial form factor F(1), we extract |Vcb|=(37.4±0. 3±1.2±1.41.2)×10-3, where the third error is due to the uncertainty in F(1). We also present a measurement of the exclusive branching fraction, B=(4.69±0.04±0.34)%. © 2008 The American Physical Society.
