In the events of peripheral dissociation of relativistic nuclei in the nuclear track emulsion, it is possible to study the emerging ensembles of He and H nuclei, including those from decays of unstable $^{8}$Be and $^{9}$B nuclei, as well as the Hoyle state. These extremely short-lived states are identified by invariant masses calculated from the angles in 2$\alpha$-pairs, 2$\alpha p$- and 3$\alpha$-triplets in the approximation of conservation of momentum per nucleon of the primary nucleus. In the same approach, it is possible to search for more complex states. This paper explores the correlation between the formation of $^{8}$Be nuclei and the multiplicity of accompanying $\alpha$-particles in the dissociation of relativistic $^{16}$O, $^{22}$Ne, $^{28}$Si, and $^{197}$Au nuclei. On the above basis, estimates of this correlation are presented for the unstable $^{9}$B nucleus and the Hoyle state. The enhancement in the $^{8}$Be contribution to dissociation with the $\alpha$-particle multiplicity has been found. Decays of $^{9}$B nuclei and Hoyle states follow the same trend.

We present estimations of systematic corrections and results of their experimental studies for our neutron lifetime experiment carried out in 2008–2010 at ILL. Taking into account these systematic corrections, we reduce the data of three independent sets of measurements (obtained during period 2008–2010) performed with different energy spectra of ultracold neutrons (UCNs) at different trap temperatures to the mean neutron lifetime value equal to 880.2(1.2) s.

The neutron life time τ n was measured by storage of ultracold neutrons (UCN) in a material bottle covered with Fomblin oil. The inelastically scattered neutrons were detected by surrounding neutron counters monitoring the UCN losses due to upscattering at the bottle walls. Comparing traps with different surface to volume ratios the free neutron life time was deduced. Consistent results for different bottle temperatures yielded τ n sec =885.4±0.9 stat ±0.4 syst .

The first rapidity density distributions from relativistic collisions between truly heavy nuclei are presented. The distributions are compared with expectations from a linear extrapolation of results obtained from collisions with lighter nuclei. Fluctuations are essentially described by a simple scenario with stochastic emission.

The slow, target associated particles produced in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion interactions are a quantitative probe of the cascading processes in the spectator parts of the target nucleus. These processes are directly influenced by the proper timescale for the formation of hadronic matter. In this letter we show experimental data on singly and multiply charged particles, with velocities smaller than 0.7 c , produced in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion interactions in nuclear emulsion.

In the present letter we discuss the general features of the multiplicity distributions in relativistic heavy ion collisions. It is shown that from simple statistical considerations it is possible to predict the dependence of the dispersions of multiplicity distributions on the average multiplicities in any given rapidty wwindow. The applicability of the negative binomial distribution to multiplicity distributions from collisions with heavy ions is discussed.

The multiplicity distributions of low-energetic target-associated particles from 200 A GeV oxygen-induced interactions with emulsion nuclei are presented. The experimental distributions are compared with distributions obtained using the Ranft and Fritiof simulation codes. It is found that the intra-nuclear cascade plays an important role in ion-induced interactions, similar to what is the case for hadron-induced interactions.

The pseudo-rapidity density distributions of shower particles (n s ) are measured in central inelastic S + Au and S + Ag,Br inter-actions. The extracted maximum energy densities, while being higher for Au than for Ag.Br interactions, were found to be similar to those obtained for oxygen emulsion interactions. The correlation between rapidity density and shower particle multiplicity shows a small deviation from the Lund Model Fritiof for the highest energy densities in S + Au interactions, whereas the bulk of the data yields satisfactory agreement.

The multiplicity distributions of shower particles (ns) are measured in inclusive inelastic oxygen emulsion interactions. Scaling is observed in the normalized variable ns/〈ns〉 for 14.6, 60 and 200 AGeV. The dependence of 〈ns〉 on the charge flow in the forward direction (QZD) and the distribution of the number of participating projectile protons is examined. The normalized multiplicities as a function of QZD seem also to be independent of incident energies. A comparison with the Lund model Fritiof yields satisfactory agreement.

We report on an experiment in which emulsion chambers were exposed to a beam of 200 A GeV 16 O at the CERN SPS. Pseudo-rapidity distributions are measured with high precision. Pseudo-rapidity densities of 140 particles per unit rapidity corresponding to an energy density of about 3 GeV/fm3 are observed. Pseudo-rapidity density distributions and fluctuations are found to satisfactorily agree with the Lund Monte Carlo model Fritiof, although new and unknown sources for fluctuations might still be present.

The production and decay of a D0 have been observed in a nuclear emulsion exposed to a photon beam from the CERN super proton synchroton in conjunction with the Omega spectrometer. All the decay products have been detected and measured in the emulsion and in the spectrometer. The mass of the charmed particle is 1866 ± 8 MeV/c2 and its decay time is (2.26 ± 0.05) × 10−14 s.

In the study of interactions of 60 GeV/c π− mesons in nuclear emulsion some peculiarities of the prong-number distribution and the angular distribution of secondaries have been observed. They are interpreted in terms of the coherent production of three and five pions on emulsion nuclei. The cross section for these reactions increases with the increasing energy.

Interactions of 60 GeV/ c π − -mesons with nucleons of the nuclear emulsion have been studied. Average prong number in π − -proton collisions is 6.64 ± 0.16. The majority of secondary particles are emitted into the forward hemisphere in the π − -proton CM system especially in low-multiplicity events.

- Abstract
An investigation of the energy dependence of grey prong producing particles in 16O+ emulsion interactions at energies from 2.1 to 200 AGeV is reported. Many of the features of these particles, known from hadron-induced interactions, are shown to be of importance also in heavy-ion interactions, i.e. multiplicity and angular distributions as well as the impact parameter dependence are energy independent. Furthermore the angular distribution seems to be independent of the projectile and target masses as well as centrality of the interactions. Both the Fritiof and Ranft models fail to reproduce this general angular shape.

In the events of peripheral dissociation of relativistic nuclei in the nuclear track emulsion, it is possible to study the emerging ensembles of He and H nuclei, including those from decays of unstable 8Be and 9B nuclei, as well as the Hoyle state. These extremely short-lived states are identified by invariant masses calculated from the angles in 2α-pairs, 2αp- and 3α-triplets in the approximation of conservation of momentum per nucleon of the primary nucleus. In the same approach, it is possible to search for more complex states. This paper explores the correlation between the formation of 8Be nuclei and the multiplicity of accompanying α-particles in the dissociation of relativistic 16O, 22Ne, 28Si, and 197Au nuclei. On the above basis, estimates of this correlation are presented for the unstable 9B nucleus and the Hoyle state. The enhancement in the 8Be contribution to dissociation with the α-particle multiplicity has been found. Decays of 9B nuclei and Hoyle states follow the same trend.

Conformal Galilei algebra ,Ricci-flat metrics ,Physics ,QC1-999 - Abstract
Ricci-flat metrics of the ultrahyperbolic signature which enjoy the l-conformal Galilei symmetry are constructed. They involve the AdS2-metric in a way similar to the near horizon black hole geometries. The associated geodesic equations are shown to describe a second order dynamical system for which the acceleration generators are functionally independent.
