Radioisotopes of molybdenum have been studied using laser spectroscopy techniques at the IGISOL facility, University of Jyvaskyla. Differences in nuclear charge radii have been determined for neutron deficient isotopes 90,91Mo and neutron rich isotopes 102–106,108Mo (and all stable isotopes). A smooth transition in the mean square charge radii is observed as the neutron number increases with no sudden shape change observed in the region around N = 60 . As N increases, the nuclear deformation appears to go beyond a maximum and a fall off at N = 66 is observed. The magnetic moments of the odd isotopes 91,103,105Mo are also determined.

Abstract: The double-electron-capture Q value for the 136Ce decay to 136Ba has been determined at JYFLTRAP. The measured value 2378.53(27) keV excludes the energy degeneracy with the excited state of the decay daughter 136Ba at 2315.32(7) keV in a resonant decay by 11.67 keV. The new Q value differs from the old adopted value 2419(13) keV (Atomic Mass Evaluation 2003) by 40 keV and is 50 times more precise. Our calculations show that the precise Q value renders the resonant decay of 136Ce undetectable by the future underground detectors. We measured also the double-β decay Q value of 136Xe to be 2457.86(48) keV which agrees well with the value 2457.83(37) keV measured at the Florida State University. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Masses of the radioactive isotopes 62Ga, 62Zn and 62Cu have been measured at the JYFLTRAP facility with a relative precision of better than . A value of () keV for the superallowed decay of 62Ga is obtained from the measured cyclotron frequency ratios of 62Ga 62Zn, 62Ga 62Ni and 62Zn 62Ni ions. The resulting -value supports the validity of the conserved vector current hypothesis (CVC). The mass excess values measured were () keV for 62Ga, () keV for 62Zn and () keV for 62Cu. Abstract: The Q values of the 116Cd and 130Te double-beta decaying nuclei were determined by using a Penning trap mass spectrometer. The new atomic mass difference between 116Cd and 116Sn of 2813.50(13) keV differs by 4.5 keV and is 30 times more precise than the previous value of 2809(4) keV. The new value for 130Te, 2526.97(23) keV is close to the Canadian Penning trap value of 2527.01±0.32 keV (Scielzo et al., 2009) , but differs from the Florida State University trap value of 2527.518±0.013 keV (Redshaw et al., 2009) by 0.55 keV (2σ). These values are sufficiently precise for ongoing neutrinoless double-beta decay searches in 116Cd and 130Te. Hence, our Q values were used to compute accurate phase-space integrals for these double-beta decay nuclei. In addition, experimental two-neutrino double-beta decay nuclear matrix elements were determined and compared with the theoretical values. The neutrinoless double-beta decay half-lives for these nuclei were estimated using our precise phase-space integrals and considering the range of the best available matrix elements values. Abstract: The Q value of the neutrinoless double-electron-capture () decay of 74Se was measured by using the JYFLTRAP Penning trap. The determined value is 1209.169(49) keV, which practically excludes the possibility of a complete energy degeneracy with the second state (1204.205(7) keV) of 74Ge in a resonant decay. We have also computed the associated nuclear matrix element by using a microscopic nuclear model with realistic two-nucleon interactions. The computed matrix element is found to be quite small. The failure of the resonant condition, combined with the small nuclear matrix element and needed p-wave capture, suppresses the decay rate strongly and thus excludes 74Se as a possible candidate to search for resonant processes. Abstract: Penning trap measurements using mixed beams of 76Ge–76Se and 100Mo–100Ru have been utilized to determine the double-beta decay Q-values of 76Ge and 100Mo with uncertainties less than 200 eV. The value for 76Ge, 2039.04(16) keV is in agreement with the published SMILETRAP value, 2039.006(50) keV. The new value for 100Mo, 3034.40(17) keV is 30 times more precise than the previous literature value, sufficient for the ongoing neutrinoless double-beta decay searches in 100Mo. Moreover, the precise Q-value is used to calculate the phase-space integrals and the experimental nuclear matrix element of double-beta decay. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Two complementary experimental techniques have been used to extract precise branching ratios to unbound states in 12C from 12N and 12B β-decays. In the first the three α-particles emitted after β-decay are measured in coincidence in separate detectors, while in the second method 12N and 12B are implanted in a detector and the summed energy of the three α-particles is measured directly. For the narrow states at 7.654 MeV () and 12.71 MeV () the resulting branching ratios are both smaller than previous measurements by a factor of ≃2. The experimental results are compared to no-core shell model calculations with realistic interactions from chiral perturbation theory, and inclusion of three-nucleon forces is found to give improved agreement.
