Abstract

The first measurement of the one-neutron transfer reaction 11 Li(p,d) 10 Li performed using the IRIS facility at TRIUMF with a 5.7A MeV 11 Li beam interacting with a solid H 2 target is reported. The 10 Li residue was populated strongly as a resonance peak with energy Er=0.62±0.04 MeV having a total width Γ=0.33±0.07 MeV . The angular distribution of this resonance is characterized by neutron occupying the 1p1/2 orbital. A DWBA analysis yields a spectroscopic factor of 0.67±0.12 for p1/2 removal strength from the ground state of 11 Li to the region of the peak.

Abstract: The first reaction spectroscopy on the ground state structure of 33Mg through the measurement of the longitudinal momentum distribution from the one-neutron removal reaction using a C target at is reported. The experiment was performed at the FRS, GSI. The distribution has a relatively narrow width ( (FWHM)) and the one-neutron removal cross-section is . An increased contribution from the orbital is required to explain the observation showing its lowering compared to existing model predictions. Abstract

Abstract: The s-wave neutron fraction of the levels in 12Be has been investigated for the first time through the 11Be() transfer reaction using a 11Be beam at TRIUMF, Canada. The reaction populated all the known bound states of 12Be. The ground state s-wave spectroscopic factor was determined to be while that for the long-lived excited state was . This observation, together with the smaller effective separation energy indicates enhanced probability for an extended density tail beyond the 10Be core for the excited state compared to the ground state. The first measurement of the two proton removal, cross section and momentum distribution, with a Be target at 66 A MeV are reported. The momentum distribution shows a width of 168±17 MeV/c (FWHM) that is much narrower than the width expected from a normal nucleus (f∼290 MeV/c). The proton removal cross-section has been determined to be 191±48 mb. Analysis of present data together with interaction cross section indicates significant s-wave probability of the two valence protons. This suggests a two-proton halo in 17Ne. Abstract

The levels in 26Na with single particle character have been observed for the first time using the d(25Na,p gamma) reaction at 5 MeV/nucleon. The measured excitation energies and the deduced spectroscopic factors are in good overall agreement with (0+1) hbar-omega shell model calculations performed in a complete spsdfp basis and incorporating a reduction in the N=20 gap. Notably, the 1p3/2 neutron configuration was found to play an enhanced role in the structure of the low-lying negative parity states in 26Na, compared to the isotone 28Al. Thus, the lowering of the 1p3/2 orbital relative to the 0f7/2 occurring in the neighbouring Z=10 and 12 nuclei -- 25,27Ne and 27,29Mg -- is seen also to occur at Z=11 and further strengthens the constraints on the modelling of the transition into the island of inversion., 6 figures

Abstract

Abstract: Proton inelastic scattering study of 17B nucleus has been performed at 43.8 A MeV average energy in inverse kinematics using a liquid hydrogen target. In the Doppler corrected γ ray spectrum, a single peak with an energy of 1089(15) keV appeared corresponding to the first excited state of 17B. Based on the reaction cross section, deformation parameter of the transition is deduced by distorted wave analysis. Comparing it with the electric quadrupole moment of the nucleus, it is shown that the deformation of the neutron distribution is large , and the neutron effective charge is much smaller than usual (∼0.5). The small effective charge is interpreted as a consequence of the decoupling of valence neutrons from the core. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

Abstract: 17,19C nuclei have been investigated by proton inelastic scattering on a liquid hydrogen target at intermediate energies. Two peaks were observed in the Doppler-corrected γ-ray spectra with energies of 210(6), 331(6) keV in 17C and 72(4), 197(6) keV in 19C corresponding to the decay of two excited states in both nuclei. Analyzing the reaction cross sections, tentative spin values were determined for the states. The experimental results are in reasonable agreement with the predictions by shell model calculations. Abstract

Abstract: One-neutron knockout reactions of 24–28Ne in a beryllium target have been studied in the Fragment Separator (FRS), at GSI. The results include inclusive one-neutron knockout cross-sections as well as longitudinal-momentum distributions of the knockout fragments. The ground-state structure of the neutron-rich neon isotopes was obtained from an analysis of the measured momentum distributions. The results indicate that the two heaviest isotopes, 27Ne and 28Ne, are dominated by a configuration in which a neutron is coupled to an excited state of the 26Ne and 27Ne core, respectively.
