Background: Patient engagement as partners in diabetes prevention for family members/close relatives is a novel and underexplored approach. This paper aims to assess patients' willingness and confidence in their ability to succeed as health educators for their family members and investigate the influencing factors. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted between January 2023 and April 2023. A newly developed and validated self-reported questionnaire, based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) and previous research, was administered to a convenient sample of 134 adult participants diagnosed with diabetes. These participants sought care at primary healthcare clinics at King Abdul-Aziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs in Riyadh and Jeddah (MNGHA). The data was examined using statistical methods including descriptive analysis, ANOVA, Tukey's HSD (Honestly Significant Difference) Post Hoc tests, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The majority of participants expressed a willingness to assume the role of health educators for their family members (n = 117, 87.31%) and reported a high level of willingness and confidence, as indicated by self-efficacy scores ranging from 12.00 to 25.00, with a mean of 21.12 (SD = 2.76). Participants' willingness to be health educators exhibited positive correlations with their perceptions of diabetes severity and susceptibility (r =.433, p <.01), perceived benefits and barriers (r =.451, p <.01), cues to action (r =.520, p <.01), self-efficacy (r =.789, p <.01), and the total score of the questionnaire (r =.640, p <.01). Conclusions: The majority of participants expressed their willingness to assume the role of health educators for their family members, and a significant portion reported confidence in their capacity to accomplish this objective. Healthcare providers should emphasize the importance of equipping patients with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively convey health messages and serve as health educators within their communities. Background: In Trachoma endemic countries, many people who underwent Trichiasis surgery faced a recurrence of the disease. Postoperative Trichiasis is a significant problem for patients and health care providers because it puts the eye at renewed risk of sight loss. Despite the low utilization of Trachomatous Trichiasis surgery and the high recurrence rate, evidence that elucidate why it recurs after surgery is limited. This study was aimed to assess the magnitude and associated factors of postoperative Trichiasis among 18 years and above individuals who underwent Trachomatous Trichiasis surgery between 2013 and 2019 in Ambassel District, Northeast Ethiopia, 2020. Methods: The community-based cross-sectional study design was conducted from March 10 to March 23/2020 in selected kebeles of Ambassel District. The required sample size (506) was calculated using EPI-INFO Version 7. A multi-stage sampling technique was used to employ study participants. Data were collected through the interviewer-administered structured pre-tested questionnaire and entered into EpiData version 3.1 and then exported to SPSS version 23.0 for analysis. Bi-variable and multivariable logistic regression models were fitted to identify associated factors of Postoperative Trachomatous Trichiasis. Results: Four hundred ninety two individuals participated in this study with a response rate of 97.2%. In Ambassel district, the prevalence of postoperative Trichiasis was 23.8% (95% CI = 19.9–27.8). Among associated factors of postoperative Trachomatous Trichiasis: age 50–59 (AOR = 3.34, CI = 1.38–8.1), 60–69 (AOR = 3.24, CI = 1.38–7.61), ≥70 years (AOR = 6.04, CI = 2.23–16.41), duration since surgery (AOR = 1.7, CI = 1.35–2.14), complication (AOR = 2.98, CI = 1.24–7.2), washing the face two times (AOR = 0.25, CI = 0.13–0.47), washing the face three and more times (AOR = 0.1, CI = 0.41–0.25), taking Azithromycin following surgery (AOR = 0.19, CI = 0.09–0.41), pre-operative epilation history (AOR = 2.11, CI = 1.14, 3.9) and having a knowledge about TrachomaTtrichiasis (AOR = 0.21, CI = 0.08–0.58) showed a statistical significant association. Conclusions: The prevalence of postoperative Trichiasis in Ambassel District was higher than most Ethiopian studies. Age, frequency of face washing, medication following surgery, duration since the last surgery, knowledge about trachoma, pre-operative epilation history, and complication after surgery were identified to be independent factors. To minimize postoperative Trachomatous Trichiasis stakeholders need to consider health education for patients, provision of Azithromycin after surgery, and proper training for integrated eye care workers. Background: Autistic people are more likely to experience stigma, communication barriers and anxiety during healthcare. Autism Health Passports (AHPs) are a communication tool that aim to provide information about healthcare needs in a standardised way. They are recommended in research and policy to improve healthcare quality. Aim: To explore views and experiences of AHPs among Autistic people from the UK who have been pregnant. Methods: We developed an online survey using a combination of open and closed questions focused on healthcare impairments and views and experiences of AHPs. Data were anlaysed using descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis tests, and content analysis. Findings: Of 193 Autistic respondents (54% diagnosed, 22% undergoing diagnosis and 24% self-identifying), over 80% reported anxiety and masking during healthcare always or most of the time. Some significant differences were identified in healthcare (in)accessibility by diagnostic status. Only 4% of participants knew a lot about AHPs, with 1.5% of participants using one at least half of the time. Almost three quarters of respondents had not previously seen an AHP. Open text responses indicated that the biggest barrier to using an AHP was a belief that health professionals would discriminate against Autistic patients. Additional barriers included staff lack of familiarity with AHPs and respondents expecting a negative response to producing an AHP. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that AHPs are not reducing health inequalities for Autistic adults who have been pregnant. Introduction: Promoting smoking cessation is a global public health priority. E-cigarettes are increasingly being used by individuals to try quitting smoking. Identifying sources and types of information available to adults who are trying to quit, and the impact of this information during a quit attempt, is critical to augment the potential public health benefit of e-cigarettes for reducing cigarette smoking. Methods: US adults (N = 857) who reported using e-cigarettes in a recent smoking cessation attempt completed an anonymous, cross sectional, online survey. We examined sources of information and type of information received when using e-cigarettes to quit smoking and their associations with the duration of abstinence achieved. Results: The two most commonly reported information sources were friends (43.9%) and the internet (35.2%), while 14.0% received information from a healthcare provider. People received information on type of device (48.5%), flavor (46.3%), and nicotine concentration (43.6%). More people received information about gradually switching from smoking to vaping (46.7%) than abruptly switching (30.2%). Obtaining information from healthcare providers (β (SE) = 0.16 (0.08), p = 0.04), getting information about abruptly switching to e-cigarettes (β (SE) = 0.14 (0.06), p = 0.01) and what nicotine concentrations to use (β (SE) = 0.18 (0.05), p = 0.03) were associated with longer quit durations. Conclusions: Amidst the growing popularity of e-cigarettes use for quitting smoking, our results highlight common sources of information and types of information received by individuals. Few people received information from healthcare providers indicating a gap in cessation support that can be filled. Providing information about immediate switching to e-cigarettes and nicotine concentrations to use may help in increasing quit rates and duration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
