Differential Evolution (DE) is widely recognized as a highly effective evolutionary algorithm for global optimization. It has proven its efficacy in tackling diverse problems across various fields and real-world applications. DE boasts several advantages, such as ease of implementation, reliability, speed, and adaptability. However, DE does have certain limitations, such as suboptimal solution exploitation and challenging parameter tuning. To address these challenges, this research paper introduces a novel algorithm called Enhanced Binary JADE (EBJADE), which combines differential evolution with multi-population and elites regeneration. The primary innovation of this paper lies in the introduction of strategy with enhanced exploitation capabilities. This strategy is based on utilizing the sorting of three vectors from the current generation to perturb the target vector. By introducing directional differences, guiding the search towards improved solutions. Additionally, this study adopts a multi-population method with a rewarding subpopulation to dynamically adjust the allocation of two different mutation strategies. Finally, the paper incorporates the sampling concept of elite individuals from the Estimation of Distribution Algorithm (EDA) to regenerate new solutions through the selection process in DE. To address the problems of low accuracy and slow convergence of traditional multilevel image segmentation methods, a symmetric cross-entropy multilevel thresholding image segmentation method (MSIPOA) with multi-strategy improved pelican optimization algorithm is proposed for global optimization and image segmentation tasks. First, Sine chaotic mapping is used to improve the quality and distribution uniformity of the initial population. A spiral search mechanism incorporating a sine cosine optimization algorithm improves the algorithm's search diversity, local pioneering ability, and convergence accuracy. A levy flight strategy further improves the algorithm's ability to jump out of local minima. In this paper, 12 benchmark test functions and 8 other newer swarm intelligence algorithms are compared in terms of convergence speed and convergence accuracy to evaluate the performance of the MSIPOA algorithm. By non-parametric statistical analysis, MSIPOA shows a greater superiority over other optimization algorithms. The MSIPOA algorithm is then experimented with symmetric cross-entropy multilevel threshold image segmentation, and eight images from BSDS300 are selected as the test set to evaluate MSIPOA. According to different performance metrics and Fridman test, MSIPOA algorithm outperforms similar algorithms in global optimization and image segmentation, and the symmetric cross entropy of MSIPOA algorithm for multilevel thresholding image segmentation method can be effectively applied to multilevel thresholding image segmentation tasks. Because of the No Free Lunch (NFL) rule, we are still under the way developing new algorithms and improving the capabilities of the existed algorithms. Under consideration of the simple and steady convergence capability of the sine cosine algorithm (SCA) and the fast convergence rate of the Harris Hawk optimization (HHO) algorithms, we hereby propose a new hybridization algorithm of the SCA and HHO algorithm in this paper, called the CSCAHHO algorithm henceforth. The energy parameter is introduced to balance the exploration and exploitation procedure for individuals in the new swarm, and chaos is introduced to improve the randomness. Updating equations is redefined and combined of the equations in the SCA and HHO algorithms. Simulation experiments on 27 benchmark functions and CEC 2014 competitive functions, together with 3 engineering problems are carried out. Comparisons have been made with the original SCA, HHO, Archimedes optimization algorithm (AOA), Seagull optimization algorithm (SOA), Sooty Tern optimization algorithm (STOA), Arithmetic optimizer (AO) and Chimp optimization algorithm (ChOA). Simulation experiments on either unimodal or multimodal, benchmark or CEC2014 functions, or real engineering problems all verified the better performance of the proposed CSAHHO, such as faster convergence rate, low residual errors, and steadier capability. Focusing on the problem incurred during particle swarm optimization (PSO) that tends to fall into local optimization when solving Nash equilibrium solutions of games, as well as the problem of slow convergence when solving higher order game pay off matrices, this paper proposes an improved Predator-Prey particle swarm optimization (IPP-PSO) algorithm based on a Predator-Prey particle swarm optimization (PP-PSO) algorithm. First, the convergence of the algorithm is advanced by improving the distribution of the initial predator and prey. By improving the inertia weight of both predator and prey, the problem of "precocity" of the algorithm is improved. By improving the formula used to represent particle velocity, the problems of local optimizations and slowed convergence rates are solved. By increasing pathfinder weight, the diversity of the population is increased, and the global search ability of the algorithm is improved. Then, by solving the Nash equilibrium solution of both a zero-sum game and a non-zero-sum game, the convergence speed and global optimal performance of the original PSO, the PP-PSO and the IPP-PSO are compared. Simulation results demonstrated that the improved Predator-Prey algorithm is convergent and effective. The convergence speed of the IPP-PSO is significantly higher than that of the other two algorithms. In the simulation, the PSO does not converge to the global optimal solution, and PP-PSO approximately converges to the global optimal solution after about 40 iterations, while IPP-PSO approximately converges to the global optimal solution after about 20 iterations. The firefly algorithm (FA) is proposed as a heuristic algorithm, inspired by natural phenomena. The FA has attracted a lot of attention due to its effectiveness in dealing with various global optimization problems. However, it could easily fall into a local optimal value or suffer from low accuracy when solving high-dimensional optimization problems. To improve the performance of the FA, this paper adds the self-adaptive logarithmic inertia weight to the updating formula of the FA, and proposes the introduction of a minimum attractiveness of a firefly, which greatly improves the convergence speed and balances the global exploration and local exploitation capabilities of FA. Additionally, a step-size decreasing factor is introduced to dynamically adjust the random step-size term. When the dimension of a search is high, the random step-size becomes very small. This strategy enables the FA to explore solution more accurately. This improved FA (LWFA) was evaluated with ten benchmark test functions under different dimensions (D = 10, 30, and 100) and with standard IEEE CEC 2010 benchmark functions. Simulation results show that the performance of improved FA is superior comparing to the standard FA and other algorithms, i.e., particle swarm optimization, the cuckoo search algorithm, the flower pollination algorithm, the sine cosine algorithm, and other modified FA.
