Many complex physical systems exhibit a rich variety of discrete behavioural modes. Often, the system complexity limits the applicability of standard modelling tools. Hence, understanding the underlying physics of different behaviours and distinguishing between them is challenging. Although traditional machine learning techniques could predict and classify behaviour well, typically they do not provide any meaningful insight into the underlying physics of the system. In this paper we present a novel method for extracting physically meaningful clusters of discrete behaviour from limited experimental observations. This method obtains a set of physically plausible functions that both facilitate behavioural clustering and aid in system understanding. We demonstrate the approach on the V-shaped falling paper system, a new falling paper type system that exhibits four distinct behavioural modes depending on a few morphological parameters. Using just 49 experimental observations, the method discovered a set of candidate functions that distinguish behaviours with an error of 2.04%, while also aiding insight into the physical phenomena driving each behaviour. With the continuous advancement of deep learning, research in scene text detection has evolved significantly. However, complex backgrounds and various text forms complicate the task of detecting text from images. CNN is a deep learning algorithm that automatically extracts features through convolution operation. In the task of scene text detection, it can capture local text features in images, but it lacks global attributes. In recent years, inspired by the application of transformers in the field of computer vision, it can capture the global information of images and describe them intuitively. Therefore, this paper proposes scene text detection based on dual perspective CNN-transformer. The channel enhanced self-attention module (CESAM) and spatial enhanced self-attention module (SESAM) proposed in this paper are integrated into the traditional ResNet backbone network. This integration effectively facilitates the learning of global contextual information and positional relationships of text, thereby alleviating the challenge of detecting small target text. Furthermore, this paper introduces a feature decoder designed to refine the effective text information within the feature map and enhance the perception of detailed information. Experiments show that the method proposed in this paper significantly improves the robustness of the model for different types of text detection. Compared to the baseline, it achieves performance improvements of 2.51% (83.81 vs. 81.3) on the Total-Text dataset, 1.87% (86.07 vs. 84.2) on the ICDAR 2015 dataset, and 3.63% (86.72 vs. 83.09) on the MSRA-TD500 dataset, while also demonstrating better visual effects. Peer review is the backbone of academia and humans constitute a cornerstone of this process, being responsible for reviewing submissions and making the final acceptance/rejection decisions. Given that human decision-making is known to be susceptible to various cognitive biases, it is important to understand which (if any) biases are present in the peer-review process, and design the pipeline such that the impact of these biases is minimized. In this work, we focus on the dynamics of discussions between reviewers and investigate the presence of herding behaviour therein. Specifically, we aim to understand whether reviewers and discussion chairs get disproportionately influenced by the first argument presented in the discussion when (in case of reviewers) they form an independent opinion about the paper before discussing it with others. In conjunction with the review process of a large, top tier machine learning conference, we design and execute a randomized controlled trial that involves 1,544 papers and 2,797 reviewers with the goal of testing for the conditional causal effect of the discussion initiator's opinion on the outcome of a paper. Our experiment reveals no evidence of herding in peer-review discussions. This observation is in contrast with past work that has documented an undue influence of the first piece of information on the final decision (e.g., anchoring effect) and analyzed herding behaviour in other applications (e.g., financial markets). Regarding policy implications, the absence of the herding effect suggests that the current status quo of the absence of a unified policy towards discussion initiation does not result in an increased arbitrariness of the resulting decisions. Credit card fraud identification is an important issue in risk prevention and control for banks and financial institutions. In order to establish an efficient credit card fraud identification model, this article studied the relevant factors that affect fraud identification. A credit card fraud identification model based on neural networks was constructed, and in-depth discussions and research were conducted. First, the layers of neural networks were deepened to improve the prediction accuracy of the model; second, this paper increase the hidden layer width of the neural network to improve the prediction accuracy of the model. This article proposes a new fusion neural network model by combining deep neural networks and wide neural networks, and applies the model to credit card fraud identification. The characteristic of this model is that the accuracy of prediction and F1 score are relatively high. Finally, use the random gradient descent method to train the model. On the test set, the proposed method has an accuracy of 96.44% and an F1 value of 96.17%, demonstrating good fraud recognition performance. It is important to implement detection and assessment of plant diseases based on remotely sensed data for disease monitoring and control. Hyperspectral data of healthy leaves, leaves in incubation period and leaves in diseased period of wheat stripe rust and wheat leaf rust were collected under in-field conditions using a black-paper-based measuring method developed in this study. After data preprocessing, the models to identify the diseases were built using distinguished partial least squares (DPLS) and support vector machine (SVM), and the disease severity inversion models of stripe rust and the disease severity inversion models of leaf rust were built using quantitative partial least squares (QPLS) and support vector regression (SVR). All the models were validated by using leave-one-out cross validation and external validation. The diseases could be discriminated using both distinguished partial least squares and support vector machine with the accuracies of more than 99%. For each wheat rust, disease severity levels were accurately retrieved using both the optimal QPLS models and the optimal SVR models with the coefficients of determination (R2) of more than 0.90 and the root mean square errors (RMSE) of less than 0.15. The results demonstrated that identification and severity evaluation of stripe rust and leaf rust at the leaf level could be implemented based on the hyperspectral data acquired using the developed method. The role of macrophages in regulating the tumor microenvironment has spurned the exponential generation of nanoparticle targeting technologies. With the large amount of literature and the speed at which it is generated it is difficult to remain current with the most up-to-date literature. In this study we performed a topic modeling analysis of 854 abstracts of peer-reviewed literature for the most common usages of nanoparticle targeting of tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) in solid tumors. The data spans 20 years of literature, providing a broad perspective of the nanoparticle strategies. Our topic model found 6 distinct topics: Immune and TAMs, Nanoparticles, Imaging, Gene Delivery and Exosomes, Vaccines, and Multi-modal Therapies. We also found distinct nanoparticle usage, tumor types, and therapeutic trends across these topics. Moreover, we established that the topic model could be used to assign new papers into the existing topics, thereby creating a Living Review. This paper proposes a model called X-LSTM-EO, which integrates explainable artificial intelligence (XAI), long short-term memory (LSTM), and equilibrium optimizer (EO) to reliably forecast solar power generation. The LSTM component forecasts power generation rates based on environmental conditions, while the EO component optimizes the LSTM model's hyper-parameters through training. The XAI-based Local Interpretable and Model-independent Explanation (LIME) is adapted to identify the critical factors that influence the accuracy of the power generation forecasts model in smart solar systems. The effectiveness of the proposed X-LSTM-EO model is evaluated through the use of five metrics; R-squared (R2), root mean square error (RMSE), coefficient of variation (COV), mean absolute error (MAE), and efficiency coefficient (EC). The proposed model gains values 0.99, 0.46, 0.35, 0.229, and 0.95, for R2, RMSE, COV, MAE, and EC respectively. The results of this paper improve the performance of the original model's conventional LSTM, where the improvement rate is; 148%, 21%, 27%, 20%, 134% for R2, RMSE, COV, MAE, and EC respectively. The performance of LSTM is compared with other machine learning algorithm such as Decision tree (DT), Linear regression (LR) and Gradient Boosting. It was shown that the LSTM model worked better than DT and LR when the results were compared. Additionally, the PSO optimizer was employed instead of the EO optimizer to validate the outcomes, which further demonstrated the efficacy of the EO optimizer. The experimental results and simulations demonstrate that the proposed model can accurately estimate PV power generation in response to abrupt changes in power generation patterns. Moreover, the proposed model might assist in optimizing the operations of photovoltaic power units. Citations play an important role in researchers' careers as a key factor in evaluation of scientific impact. Many anecdotes advice authors to exploit this fact and cite prospective reviewers to try obtaining a more positive evaluation for their submission. In this work, we investigate if such a citation bias actually exists: Does the citation of a reviewer's own work in a submission cause them to be positively biased towards the submission? In conjunction with the review process of two flagship conferences in machine learning and algorithmic economics, we execute an observational study to test for citation bias in peer review. In our analysis, we carefully account for various confounding factors such as paper quality and reviewer expertise, and apply different modeling techniques to alleviate concerns regarding the model mismatch. Overall, our analysis involves 1,314 papers and 1,717 reviewers and detects citation bias in both venues we consider. In terms of the effect size, by citing a reviewer's work, a submission has a non-trivial chance of getting a higher score from the reviewer: an expected increase in the score is approximately 0.23 on a 5-point Likert item. Predicting ship trajectories can effectively forecast navigation trends and enable the orderly management of ships, which holds immense significance for maritime traffic safety. This paper introduces a novel ship trajectory prediction method utilizing Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Deep Neural Network (DNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU). Our research comprises two main parts: the first involves preprocessing the large raw AIS dataset to extract features, and the second focuses on trajectory prediction. We emphasize a specialized preprocessing approach tailored for AIS data, including advanced filtering techniques to remove outliers and erroneous data points, and the incorporation of contextual information such as environmental conditions and ship-specific characteristics. Our deep learning models utilize trajectory data sourced from the Automatic Identification System (AIS) to train and learn regular patterns within ship trajectory data, enabling them to predict trajectories for the next hour. Experimental results reveal that CNN has substantially reduced the Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and Mean Square Error (MSE) of ship trajectory prediction, showcasing superior performance compared to other deep learning algorithms. Additionally, a comparative analysis with other models—Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), GRU, LSTM, and DBS-LSTM—using metrics such as Average Displacement Error (ADE), Final Displacement Error (FDE), and Non-Linear ADE (NL-ADE), demonstrates our method's robustness and accuracy. Our approach not only cleans the data but also enriches it, providing a robust foundation for subsequent deep learning applications in ship trajectory prediction. Through the advancement of the contemporary web and the rapid adoption of social media platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook, for example, life has become much easier when dealing with certain highly personal problems. The far-reaching consequences of online harassment require immediate preventative steps to safeguard psychological wellness and scholarly achievement via detection at an earlier stage. This piece of writing aims to eliminate online harassment and create a criticism-free online environment. In the paper, we have used a variety of attributes to evaluate a large number of Bengali comments. We communicate cleansed data utilizing machine learning (ML) methods and natural language processing techniques, which must be followed using term frequency and reverse document frequency (TF-IDF) with a count vectorizer. In addition, we used tokenization with padding to feed our deep learning (DL) models. Using mathematical visualization and natural language processing, online bullying could be detected quickly. Multi-layer Perceptron (MLP), K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), Adaptive Boosting Classifier (AdaBoost), Logistic Regression Classifier (LR), Random Forest Classifier (RF), Bagging Classifier, Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), Voting Classifier, and Stacking are employed in the research we conducted. We expanded our investigation to include different DL frameworks. Deep Neural Networks (DNN), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), Convolutional-Long Short-Term Memory (C-LSTM), and Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) are all implemented. A large amount of data is required to precisely recognize harassing behavior. To rapidly recognize internet harassment written material, we combined two sets of data, producing 94,000 Bengali comments from different points of view. After understanding the ML and DL models, we can see that a hybrid model (MLP+SGD+LR) performed more effectively when compared to other models, its evaluation accuracy is 99.34%, precision is 99.34%, recall rate is 99.33%, and F1 score is 99.34% on multi-label class. Monkeypox (MPXV) is one of the infectious viruses which caused morbidity and mortality problems in these years. Despite its danger to public health, there is no approved drug to stand and handle MPXV. On the other hand, drug repurposing is a promising screening method for the low-cost introduction of approved drugs for emerging diseases and viruses which utilizes computational methods. Therefore, drug repurposing is a promising approach to suggesting approved drugs for the MPXV. This paper proposes a computational framework for MPXV antiviral prediction. To do this, we have generated a new virus-antiviral dataset. Moreover, we applied several machine learning and one deep learning method for virus-antiviral prediction. The suggested drugs by the learning methods have been investigated using docking studies. The target protein structure is modeled using homology modeling and, then, refined and validated. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first work to study deep learning methods for the prediction of MPXV antivirals. The screening results confirm that Tilorone, Valacyclovir, Ribavirin, Favipiravir, and Baloxavir marboxil are effective drugs for MPXV treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Skin cancer has a significant impact on the lives of many individuals annually and is recognized as the most prevalent type of cancer. In the United States, an estimated annual incidence of approximately 3.5 million people receiving a diagnosis of skin cancer underscores its widespread prevalence. Furthermore, the prognosis for individuals afflicted with advancing stages of skin cancer experiences a substantial decline in survival rates. This paper is dedicated to aiding healthcare experts in distinguishing between benign and malignant skin cancer cases by employing a range of machine learning and deep learning techniques and different feature extractors and feature selectors to enhance the evaluation metrics. In this paper, different transfer learning models are employed as feature extractors, and to enhance the evaluation metrics, a feature selection layer is designed, which includes diverse techniques such as Univariate, Mutual Information, ANOVA, PCA, XGB, Lasso, Random Forest, and Variance. Among transfer models, DenseNet-201 was selected as the primary feature extractor to identify features from data. Subsequently, the Lasso method was applied for feature selection, utilizing diverse machine learning approaches such as MLP, XGB, RF, and NB. To optimize accuracy and precision, ensemble methods were employed to identify and enhance the best-performing models. Circular reinforced concrete wound glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) columns and reinforced concrete filled GFRP columns are extensively utilized in civil engineering practice. Various factors influence the performance of these two types of GFRP columns, thereby impacting the whole project. Therefore, it is highly significant to establish the prediction models for ultimate displacement and ultimate bearing capacity to optimize the design of the two types of GFRP columns. In this study, based on the experiments conducted under different conditions on the two kinds of GFRP columns, automatic machine learning along with four other commonly used machine learning methods were employed for modeling to analyze how the column parameters (cross section shape, concrete strength, height of GFRP column, wound GFRP wall thickness, inner diameter of wound GFRP column) affect their performance. The differences in performance among these five machine learning methods were analyzed after modeling. Subsequently, we obtained the variation patterns in ultimate displacement and ultimate bearing capacity of the columns influenced by each parameter by testing the data using the optimal model. Based on these findings, the optimal design schemes for the two types of GFRP columns are proposed. The contribution of this paper is three-fold. First, AutoML sheds light on the automatic prediction of ultimate displacement and ultimate bearing capacity of GFRP column. Second, in this paper, two optimal design schemes of GFRP columns are proposed. Third, for AEC industrial practitioners, the whole process is automatic, accurate and less reliant on data expertise and the optimization design scheme proposed in the article is relatively scientific. The rural B&B industry is a key component of rural tourism, local economic development, and the wider rural revitalization strategy. Despite the abundance of tourism resources in Yunnan, the B&B sector faces significant challenges. It is therefore imperative to accurately identify the most pressing issues within the current B&B industry and formulate appropriate solutions to advance Yunnan's rural revitalization efforts. This study uses recent reviews of rural B&Bs on Ctrip.com and employs machine learning techniques, including Bert, CNN, LSTM, and GRU, to identify the key management challenges currently facing Yunnan's rural B&B industry. An analysis is then conducted to identify the key stakeholders involved in the process of improving the management of Yunnan's B&Bs. To assess the willingness of each stakeholder to support the improvement of the rural B&B industry, this paper establishes a three-party evolutionary game model and examines the dynamic evolutionary process of management improvement within Yunnan's rural B&B industry. Two scenarios of evolutionarily stable strategies are analyzed, and parameters impacting stakeholders' strategy choices are simulated and evaluated. The results show that: i) Improving the "human factor" is the top priority for the current management improvement because tourists are most concerned about the emotional experience. Operators need to focus on improving service attitude and emotional experience; ii) The main stakeholders in the current management optimization process of Yunnan B&Bs are the local government, B&B operators, and tourists. Under appropriate conditions, the evolutionarily stable strategy of (1, 1, 1) is reachable. iii) variables such as additional costs, tourists' choice preferences, and government penalties significantly affect the strategy choices of stakeholders, especially B&B operators. This paper offers effective strategies for improving B&B management that can benefit the government, B&B operators, and tourists, and ultimately contribute to the promotion of quality rural revitalization. The paper not only identifies focal areas for improving B&B management in rural Yunnan, but also provides an in-depth understanding of stakeholder dynamics. A timely and consistent assessment of crop yield will assist the farmers in improving their income, minimizing losses, and deriving strategic plans in agricultural commodities to adopt import-export policies. Crop yield predictions are one of the various challenges faced in the agriculture sector and play a significant role in planning and decision-making. Machine learning algorithms provided enough belief and proved their ability to predict crop yield. The selection of the most suitable crop is influenced by various environmental factors such as temperature, soil fertility, water availability, quality, and seasonal variations, as well as economic considerations such as stock availability, preservation capabilities, market demand, purchasing power, and crop prices. The paper outlines a framework used to evaluate the performance of various machine-learning algorithms for forecasting crop yields. The models were based on a range of prime parameters including pesticides, rainfall and average temperature. The Results of three machine learning algorithms, Categorical Boosting (CatBoost), Light Gradient-Boosting Machine (LightGBM), and eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) are compared and found more accurate than other algorithms in predicting crop yields. The RMSE and R2 values were calculated to compare the predicted and observed rice yields, resulting in the following values: CatBoost with 800 (0.24), LightGBM with 737 (0.33), and XGBoost with 744 (0.31). Among these three machine learning algorithms, CatBoost demonstrated the highest precision in predicting yields, achieving an accuracy rate of 99.123%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Speech enhancement is crucial both for human and machine listening applications. Over the last decade, the use of deep learning for speech enhancement has resulted in tremendous improvement over the classical signal processing and machine learning methods. However, training a deep neural network is not only time-consuming; it also requires extensive computational resources and a large training dataset. Transfer learning, i.e. using a pretrained network for a new task, comes to the rescue by reducing the amount of training time, computational resources, and the required dataset, but the network still needs to be fine-tuned for the new task. This paper presents a novel method of speech denoising and dereverberation (SD&D) on an end-to-end frozen binaural anechoic speech separation network. The frozen network requires neither any architectural change nor any fine-tuning for the new task, as is usually required for transfer learning. The interaural cues of a source placed inside noisy and echoic surroundings are given as input to this pretrained network to extract the target speech from noise and reverberation. Although the pretrained model used in this paper has never seen noisy reverberant conditions during its training, it performs satisfactorily for zero-shot testing (ZST) under these conditions. It is because the pretrained model used here has been trained on the direct-path interaural cues of an active source and so it can recognize them even in the presence of echoes and noise. ZST on the same dataset on which the pretrained network was trained (homo-corpus) for the unseen class of interference, has shown considerable improvement over the weighted prediction error (WPE) algorithm in terms of four objective speech quality and intelligibility metrics. Also, the proposed model offers similar performance provided by a deep learning SD&D algorithm for this dataset under varying conditions of noise and reverberations. Manifold visualisation techniques are commonly used to visualise high-dimensional datasets in physical sciences. In this paper, we apply a recently introduced manifold visualisation method, slisemap, on datasets from physics and chemistry. slisemap combines manifold visualisation with explainable artificial intelligence. Explainable artificial intelligence investigates the decision processes of black box machine learning models and complex simulators. With slisemap, we find an embedding such that data items with similar local explanations are grouped together. Hence, slisemap gives us an overview of the different behaviours of a black box model, where the patterns in the embedding reflect a target property. In this paper, we show how slisemap can be used and evaluated on physical data and that it is helpful in finding meaningful information on classification and regression models trained on these datasets. Physical fitness is a key element of a healthy life, and being overweight or lacking physical exercise will lead to health problems. Therefore, assessing an individual's physical health status from a non-medical, cost-effective perspective is essential. This paper aimed to evaluate the national physical health status through national physical examination data, selecting 12 indicators to divide the physical health status into four levels: excellent, good, pass, and fail. The existing challenge lies in the fact that most literature on physical fitness assessment mainly focuses on the two major groups of sports athletes and school students. Unfortunately, there is no reasonable index system has been constructed. The evaluation method has limitations and cannot be applied to other groups. This paper builds a reasonable health indicator system based on national physical examination data, breaks group restrictions, studies national groups, and hopes to use machine learning models to provide helpful health suggestions for citizens to measure their physical status. We analyzed the significance of the selected indicators through nonparametric tests and exploratory statistical analysis. We used seven machine learning models to obtain the best multi-classification model for the physical fitness test level. Comprehensive research showed that MLP has the best classification effect, with macro-precision reaching 74.4% and micro-precision reaching 72.8%. Furthermore, the recall rates are also above 70%, and the Hamming loss is the smallest, i.e., 0.272. The practical implications of these findings are significant. Individuals can use the classification model to understand their physical fitness level and status, exercise appropriately according to the measurement indicators, and adjust their lifestyle, which is an important aspect of health management. In recent years, with the continuous improvement of the financial system and the rapid development of the banking industry, the competition of the banking industry itself has intensified. At the same time, with the rapid development of information technology and Internet technology, customers' choice of financial products is becoming more and more diversified, and customers' dependence and loyalty to banking institutions is becoming less and less, and the problem of customer churn in commercial banks is becoming more and more prominent. How to predict customer behavior and retain existing customers has become a major challenge for banks to solve. Therefore, this study takes a bank's business data on Kaggle platform as the research object, uses multiple sampling methods to compare the data for balancing, constructs a bank customer churn prediction model for churn identification by GA-XGBoost, and conducts interpretability analysis on the GA-XGBoost model to provide decision support and suggestions for the banking industry to prevent customer churn. The results show that: (1) The applied SMOTEENN is more effective than SMOTE and ADASYN in dealing with the imbalance of banking data. (2) The F1 and AUC values of the model improved and optimized by XGBoost using genetic algorithm can reach 90% and 99%, respectively, which are optimal compared to other six machine learning models. The GA-XGBoost classifier was identified as the best solution for the customer churn problem. (3) Using Shapley values, we explain how each feature affects the model results, and analyze the features that have a high impact on the model prediction, such as the total number of transactions in the past year, the amount of transactions in the past year, the number of products owned by customers, and the total sales balance. The contribution of this paper is mainly in two aspects: (1) this study can provide useful information from the black box model based on the accurate identification of churned customers, which can provide reference for commercial banks to improve their service quality and retain customers; (2) it can provide reference for customer churn early warning models of other related industries, which can help the banking industry to maintain customer stability, maintain market position and reduce corporate losses. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become a major global health crisis, causing millions of yearly deaths. Predicting the possibility of a person being affected by the disease will allow timely diagnosis and precautionary measures leading to preventive strategies for health. Machine learning techniques have been popularly applied in various disease diagnoses and predictions. Ensemble learning approaches have become useful for predicting many complex diseases. In this paper, we utilise the boosting method, one of the popular ensemble learnings, to achieve a higher prediction accuracy for CKD. Five boosting algorithms are employed: XGBoost, CatBoost, LightGBM, AdaBoost, and gradient boosting. We experimented with the CKD data set from the UCI machine learning repository. Various preprocessing steps are employed to achieve better prediction performance, along with suitable hyperparameter tuning and feature selection. We assessed the degree of importance of each feature in the dataset leading to CKD. The performance of each model was evaluated with accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, Area under the curve-receiving operator characteristic (AUC-ROC), and runtime. AdaBoost was found to have the overall best performance among the five algorithms, scoring the highest in almost all the performance measures. Background: The development of deep learning (DL) algorithms is a three-step process—training, tuning, and testing. Studies are inconsistent in the use of the term "validation", with some using it to refer to tuning and others testing, which hinders accurate delivery of information and may inadvertently exaggerate the performance of DL algorithms. We investigated the extent of inconsistency in usage of the term "validation" in studies on the accuracy of DL algorithms in providing diagnosis from medical imaging. Methods and findings: We analyzed the full texts of research papers cited in two recent systematic reviews. The papers were categorized according to whether the term "validation" was used to refer to tuning alone, both tuning and testing, or testing alone. We analyzed whether paper characteristics (i.e., journal category, field of study, year of print publication, journal impact factor [JIF], and nature of test data) were associated with the usage of the terminology using multivariable logistic regression analysis with generalized estimating equations. Of 201 papers published in 125 journals, 118 (58.7%), 9 (4.5%), and 74 (36.8%) used the term to refer to tuning alone, both tuning and testing, and testing alone, respectively. A weak association was noted between higher JIF and using the term to refer to testing (i.e., testing alone or both tuning and testing) instead of tuning alone (vs. JIF <5; JIF 5 to 10: adjusted odds ratio 2.11, P = 0.042; JIF >10: adjusted odds ratio 2.41, P = 0.089). Journal category, field of study, year of print publication, and nature of test data were not significantly associated with the terminology usage. Conclusions: Existing literature has a significant degree of inconsistency in using the term "validation" when referring to the steps in DL algorithm development. Bitcoin is a decentralized digital cryptocurrency. Its network is a Peer-to-peer(P2P) network consisting of distributed nodes. Some of these nodes are always online and in this article are called Bitcoin backbone nodes. They have a significant impact on the stability and security of the Bitcoin network, so it is meaningful to analyze and discuss them. In this paper, we first continuously collect information about Bitcoin nodes from July 2021 through June 2022 (which is the longest duration of data collection to date). In total, we collect information on 127,613 Bitcoin nodes. At the same time, we conclude that the fluctuation of Bitcoin nodes is directly related to the fluctuation of onion network nodes. Further, we filtered 2694 Bitcoin backbone nodes based on our algorithm. By analyzing the backbone nodes' attributes such as geographic distribution, client version, operator, node function, and abnormal port number, it is demonstrated that these nodes are centralized and play an important role in the Bitcoin network. Based on this, three unsupervised machine learning algorithms are selected to cluster multiple attributes of backbone nodes in a more scientific way. In this paper, the whole process from data collection to cluster analysis is completed and the best results are obtained by comparison. The experiments proved the existence of centralization of Bitcoin backbone nodes and obtained the number of nodes within each cluster. Finally, cluster nodes are de-anonymized based on the optimal results. Through our experiments, we obtain organizational information about the deployers of 103 nodes, linking the Bitcoin backbone nodes to the real world, thus accurately demonstrating the existence of Bitcoin centrality. Based on the data of the Chinese A-share listed firms in China Shanghai and Shenzhen Stock Exchange from 2014 to 2021, this article explores the relationship between common institutional investors and the quality of management earnings forecasts. The study used the multiple linear regression model and empirically found that common institutional investors positively impact the precision of earnings forecasts. This article also uses graph neural networks to predict the precision of earnings forecasts. Our findings have shown that common institutional investors form external supervision over restricting management to release a wide width of earnings forecasts, which helps to improve the risk warning function of earnings forecasts and promote the sustainable development of information disclosure from management in the Chinese capital market. One of the marginal contributions of this paper is that it enriches the literature related to the economic consequences of common institutional shareholding. Then, the neural network method used to predict the quality of management forecasts enhances the research method of institutional investors and the behavior of management earnings forecasts. Nowadays, the international situation is severe and complex, and the structural issues within the Chinese economy are prominent. Consequently, the financial risks faced by Chinese listed companies continue to escalate. Hence, it is of great practical significance to furnish effective early warnings for financial crises in listed companies. In this paper, we first employ web crawler technology and natural language processing technology to assess four text-linguistic features in the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) section of the annual financial reports of listed companies in China from 2011 to 2020. These features are text tone, forward-looking, readability and similarity. Subsequently, we combine these features with traditional financial indicators and explore thirteen mainstream machine learning models to comparatively analyze their effectiveness in predicting financial crises in listed companies. The empirical findings of this research reveal that MD&A text readability and similarity indicators contribute valuable incremental information to prediction models, whereas text tone and forward-looking indicators exhibit the opposite effect. The latter two indicators can be manipulated more effortlessly by management, as this study's empirical findings indicate no evidence of their contributions in incremental informational value. In fact, the forward-looking indicator even introduces additional noise to the prediction. Finally, by comparing the early warning effects of thirteen machine learning models, it is found that RF, Bagging, CatBoost, GBDT, XGBoost and LightGBM models maintain stable and accurate sample recognition ability. In general, this paper constructs a more effective financial crisis early warning model by exploring the MD&A text-linguistic feature indicators, thereby offering a fresh research perspective for further investigations in this field. Stock market forecasting is one of the most challenging problems in today's financial markets. According to the efficient market hypothesis, it is almost impossible to predict the stock market with 100% accuracy. However, Machine Learning (ML) methods can improve stock market predictions to some extent. In this paper, a novel strategy is proposed to improve the prediction efficiency of ML models for financial markets. Nine ML models are used to predict the direction of the stock market. First, these models are trained and validated using the traditional methodology on a historic data captured over a 1-day time frame. Then, the models are trained using the proposed methodology. Following the traditional methodology, Logistic Regression achieved the highest accuracy of 85.51% followed by XG Boost and Random Forest. With the proposed strategy, the Random Forest model achieved the highest accuracy of 91.27% followed by XG Boost, ADA Boost and ANN. In the later part of the paper, it is shown that only classification report is not sufficient to validate the performance of ML model for stock market prediction. A simulation model of the financial market is used in order to evaluate the risk, maximum draw down and returns associate with each ML model. Depending on the degree of fracture, pelvic fracture can be accompanied by vascular damage, and in severe cases, it may progress to hemorrhagic shock. Pelvic radiography can quickly diagnose pelvic fractures, and the Association for Osteosynthesis Foundation and Orthopedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) classification system is useful for evaluating pelvic fracture instability. This study aimed to develop a radiomics-based machine-learning algorithm to quickly diagnose fractures on pelvic X-ray and classify their instability. data used were pelvic anteroposterior radiographs of 990 adults over 18 years of age diagnosed with pelvic fractures, and 200 normal subjects. A total of 93 features were extracted based on radiomics:18 first-order, 24 GLCM, 16 GLRLM, 16 GLSZM, 5 NGTDM, and 14 GLDM features. To improve the performance of machine learning, the feature selection methods RFE, SFS, LASSO, and Ridge were used, and the machine learning models used LR, SVM, RF, XGB, MLP, KNN, and LGBM. Performance measurement was evaluated by area under the curve (AUC) by analyzing the receiver operating characteristic curve. The machine learning model was trained based on the selected features using four feature-selection methods. When the RFE feature selection method was used, the average AUC was higher than that of the other methods. Among them, the combination with the machine learning model SVM showed the best performance, with an average AUC of 0.75±0.06. By obtaining a feature-importance graph for the combination of RFE and SVM, it is possible to identify features with high importance. The AO/OTA classification of normal pelvic rings and pelvic fractures on pelvic AP radiographs using a radiomics-based machine learning model showed the highest AUC when using the SVM classification combination. With recent technological advancements, quantitative analysis has become an increasingly important area within professional sports. However, the manual process of collecting data on relevant match events like passes, goals and tacklings comes with considerable costs and limited consistency across providers, affecting both research and practice. In football, while automatic detection of events from positional data of the players and the ball could alleviate these issues, it is not entirely clear what accuracy current state-of-the-art methods realistically achieve because there is a lack of high-quality validations on realistic and diverse data sets. This paper adds context to existing research by validating a two-step rule-based pass and shot detection algorithm on four different data sets using a comprehensive validation routine that accounts for the temporal, hierarchical and imbalanced nature of the task. Our evaluation shows that pass and shot detection performance is highly dependent on the specifics of the data set. In accordance with previous studies, we achieve F-scores of up to 0.92 for passes, but only when there is an inherent dependency between event and positional data. We find a significantly lower accuracy with F-scores of 0.71 for passes and 0.65 for shots if event and positional data are independent. This result, together with a critical evaluation of existing methodologies, suggests that the accuracy of current football event detection algorithms operating on positional data is currently overestimated. Further analysis reveals that the temporal extraction of passes and shots from positional data poses the main challenge for rule-based approaches. Our results further indicate that the classification of plays into shots and passes is a relatively straightforward task, achieving F-scores between 0.83 to 0.91 ro rule-based classifiers and up to 0.95 for machine learning classifiers. We show that there exist simple classifiers that accurately differentiate shots from passes in different data sets using a low number of human-understandable rules. Operating on basic spatial features, our classifiers provide a simple, objective event definition that can be used as a foundation for more reliable event-based match analysis. Internet finance has permeated into myriad households, bringing about lifestyle convenience alongside potential risks. Presently, internet finance enterprises are progressively adopting machine learning and other artificial intelligence methods for risk alertness. What is the current status of the application of various machine learning models and algorithms across different institutions? Is there an optimal machine learning algorithm suited for the majority of internet finance platforms and application scenarios? Scholars have embarked on a series of studies addressing these questions; however, the focus predominantly lies in comparing different algorithms within specific platforms and contexts, lacking a comprehensive discourse and summary on the utilization of machine learning in this domain. Thus, based on the data from Web of Science and Scopus databases, this paper conducts a systematic literature review on all aspects of machine learning in internet finance risk in recent years, based on publications trends, geographical distribution, literature focus, machine learning models and algorithms, and evaluations. The research reveals that machine learning, as a nascent technology, whether through basic algorithms or intricate algorithmic combinations, has made significant strides compared to traditional credit scoring methods in predicting accuracy, time efficiency, and robustness in internet finance risk management. Nonetheless, there exist noticeable disparities among different algorithms, and factors such as model structure, sample data, and parameter settings also influence prediction accuracy, although generally, updated algorithms tend to achieve higher accuracy. Consequently, there is no one-size-fits-all approach applicable to all platforms; each platform should enhance its machine learning models and algorithms based on its unique characteristics, data, and the development of AI technology, starting from key evaluation indicators to mitigate internet finance risks. Debris flow is a sudden natural disaster in mountainous areas, which seriously threatens the lives and property of nearby residents. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the volume of debris flow accurately and reliably. However, the predictions of back propagation neural networks are unstable and inaccurate due to the limited dataset. In this study, the Cubic map optimizes the initial population position of the whale optimization algorithm. Meanwhile, the adaptive weight adjustment strategy optimizes the weight value in the shrink-wrapping mechanism of the whale optimization algorithm. Then, the improved whale optimization algorithm optimizes the final weights and thresholds in the back propagation neural network. Finally, to verify the performance of the final model, sixty debris flow gullies caused by earthquakes in Longmenshan area are selected as the research objects. Through correlation analysis, 4 main factors affecting the volume of debris flow are determined and inputted into the model for training and prediction. Four methods (support vector machine regression, XGBoost, back propagation neural network optimized by artificial bee colony algorithm, back propagation neural network optimized by grey wolf optimization algorithm) are used to compare the prediction performance and reliability. The results indicate that loose sediments from co-seismic landslides are the most important factor influencing the flow of debris flows in the earthquake area. The mean absolute percentage error, mean absolute error and R2 of the final model are 0.193, 29.197 × 104 m3 and 0.912, respectively. The final model is more accurate and stable when the dataset is insufficient and under complexity. This is attributed to the optimization of WOA by Cubic map and adaptive weight adjustment. Background: Thrombus formation in vitro under flow conditions is one of the most widely used methods to study haemostasis and to evaluate the activity of potential antithrombotic compounds. Assessment of the results of these experiments is often based on a quantification of microscopic images of thrombi. In a majority of reported analysis all thrombi visualised in an image are quantified as one homogenous class. In some protocols, qualitative assessment of thrombi morphology based on a visual comparison of evaluated images with representative images of predefined classes of thrombi are performed by experienced analysts. In presented paper we show how the quantitative analysis can be improved by classification of thrombi on the basis of defined morphological features prior to quantification and we suggest that machine learning-based approach can improve this way of analysis. Methods: We tested the applicability of machine learning-based segmentation and classification of thrombi images to improve the outcome of quantification of the results of flow chamber assays. For this, we used the public domain machine learning software Ilastik for bioimage analysis developed at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. A model was trained to distinguish two classes of thrombi based on certain morphological features which apparently correspond to the stage of thrombus development. Thrombi formed in the presence of a model antiplatelet compound—abciximab or in control conditions were quantified with the use of this model and the results were compared to quantification where all thrombi were quantified as a homogenous class. Results: Machine learning-based analysis was capable of effective distinguishing of two classes of morphologically distinct platelet aggregates. The use of the model which segmented and quantified only the objects recognized as compacted structures provided results which better mirrored the actual effect of an antiplatelet treatment than quantification based on all structures. Conclusions: Classification of thrombi enabled by machine learning increases the relevance of quantitative information and allows better evaluation of the results of in vitro thrombosis assays. How does scientific research affect the world around us? Being able to answer this question is of great importance in order to appropriately channel efforts and resources in science. The impact by scientists in academia is currently measured by citation based metrics such as h-index, i-index and citation counts. These academic metrics aim to represent the dissemination of knowledge among scientists rather than the impact of the research on the wider world. In this work we are interested in measuring scientific impact beyond academia, on the economy, society, health and legislation (comprehensive impact). Indeed scientists are asked to demonstrate evidence of such comprehensive impact by authoring case studies in the context of the Research Excellence Framework (REF). We first investigate the extent to which existing citation based metrics can be indicative of comprehensive impact. We have collected all recent REF impact case studies from 2014 and we have linked these to papers in citation networks that we constructed and derived from CiteSeerX, arXiv and PubMed Central using a number of text processing and information retrieval techniques. We have demonstrated that existing citation-based metrics for impact measurement do not correlate well with REF impact results. We also consider metrics of online attention surrounding scientific works, such as those provided by the Altmetric API. We argue that in order to be able to evaluate wider non-academic impact we need to mine information from a much wider set of resources, including social media posts, press releases, news articles and political debates stemming from academic work. We also provide our data as a free and reusable collection for further analysis, including the PubMed citation network and the correspondence between REF case studies, grant applications and the academic literature. Sustainability has become a key factor on our planet. If this concept is applied correctly, our planet will be greener and more eco-friendly. Nowadays, waste classification and management practices have become more evident than ever. It plays a crucial role in the sustainability ecosystem. Computer algorithms and deep learning can help in this sustainability challenge. In this paper, An Optimized Neutrosophic Deep Learning (ONDL) model was proposed to classify waste objects. Two datasets were tested in this research {Dataset for Waste Management 1 (DSWM1), and Dataset for Waste Management 2 (DSWM2)}. DSWM1 consists of two classes (Organic or Recycled) objects. The DSWM2 consists of three classes (Organic, Recycled, or Non-Recyclable) objects. Both datasets exist publicly on the internet. The ONDL model architecture is constructed based on Alexnet as a Deep Transfer Learning (DTL) model and the conversion of images to True (T) neutrosophic domain and Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) for the image features selection. The selection process of the building components of the ONDL model is comprehensive as different DTL models (Alexnet, Googlenet, and Resnet18) are tested, and three neutrosophic domains (T, I, and F) domain are included. The ONDL model proved its efficiency against all the tested models, moreover, it achieves competitive results with related works in terms of testing accuracy and performance metrics. In DSWM1, the ONDL model achieved 0.9189, 0.9177, 0.9176, and 0.9177 in Testing Accuracy (TA), Precision (P), Recall (R), and F1 score. Computational modeling of artwork meaning is complex and difficult. This is because art interpretation is multidimensional and highly subjective. This paper experimentally investigated the degree to which a state-of-the-art Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN), a popular Machine Learning approach, can correctly distinguish modern conceptual art work into the galleries devised by art curators. Two hypotheses were proposed to state that the DCNN model uses Exhibited Properties for classification, like shape and color, but not Non-Exhibited Properties, such as historical context and artist intention. The two hypotheses were experimentally validated using a methodology designed for this purpose. VGG-11 DCNN pre-trained on ImageNet dataset and discriminatively fine-tuned was trained on handcrafted datasets designed from real-world conceptual photography galleries. Experimental results supported the two hypotheses showing that the DCNN model ignores Non-Exhibited Properties and uses only Exhibited Properties for artwork classification. In order to assess risk of mosquito-vector borne disease and to effectively target and monitor vector control efforts, accurate information about mosquito vector population densities is needed. The traditional and still most common approach to this involves the use of traps along with manual counting and classification of mosquito species, but the costly and labor-intensive nature of this approach limits its widespread use. Numerous previous studies have sought to address this problem by developing machine learning models to automatically identify species and sex of mosquitoes based on their wingbeat sounds. Yet little work has addressed the issue of robust classification in the presence of environmental background noise, which is essential to making the approach practical. In this paper, we propose a new deep learning model, MosquitoSong+, to identify the species and sex of mosquitoes from raw wingbeat sounds so that it is robust to the environmental noise and the relative volume of the mosquito's flight tone. The proposed model extends the existing 1D-CNN model by adjusting its architecture and introducing two data augmentation techniques during model training: noise augmentation and wingbeat volume variation. Experiments show that the new model has very good generalizability, with species classification accuracy above 80% on several wingbeat datasets with various background noise. It also has an accuracy of 93.3% for species and sex classification on wingbeat sounds overlaid with various background noises. Automated summarization of legal texts poses a significant challenge due to the complex and specialized nature of legal documentation. Despite the recent progress in reinforcement learning for natural language text summarization, its application in the legal domain has been less effective. This paper introduces SAC-VAE, a novel reinforcement learning framework specifically designed for legal text summarization. We leverage a Variational Autoencoder (VAE) to condense the high-dimensional state space into a more manageable lower-dimensional feature space. These compressed features are subsequently utilized by the Soft Actor-Critic (SAC) algorithm for policy learning, facilitating the automated generation of summaries from legal texts. Human gait recognition (HGR) is the mechanism of biometrics that authors extensively employ to recognize an individuals based on their walking traits. HGR has been prominent for the past few years due to its surveillance capability. In HGR, an individual's walking attributes are utilized for identification. HGR is considered a very effective technique for recognition but faces different problematic factors that degrade its performance. The major factors are variations in clothing, carrying, walking, etc. In this paper, a new hybrid method for the classification of HGR is designed called Stacked-Gait. The system is based on six major steps; initially, image resizing is performed to overcome computation problems. In the second step, these images are converted into grey-scale to extract better features. After that, the dataset division is performed into train and test set. In the next step, the training of the autoencoders and feature extraction of the dataset are performed using training data. In the next step, the stacking of two autoencoders is also performed. After that, the stacked encoders are employed to extract features from the test data. Finally, the feature vectors are given as input to various machine learning classifiers for final classification. The method assessment is performed using the CASIA-B dataset and achieved the accuracy of 99.90, 98.10, 97.20, 97.20, 96.70, and 100 percent on 000, 180, 360, 540, 720, and 900 angles. This paper delves into the engineering applications of lime-stabilized red clay, a highly water-sensitive material, particularly in the context of the climatic conditions prevalent in the Dalian region. We systematically investigate the impact of water content, dry density, and freeze-thaw cycles (with a freezing temperature set at -10°C) on the thermal conductivity of stabilized soil, a crucial parameter for analyzing soil temperature fields that is influenced by numerous factors. By developing and validating both empirical and machine learning prediction models, we unravel the evolution of thermal conductivity in response to these factors: within the range of influencing variables, thermal conductivity exhibits an exponential or linear increase with rising water content and dry density, while it decreases exponentially with increasing freeze-thaw cycles. Furthermore, we quantitatively analyze the specific influence of water content and other factors on the thermal conductivity of stabilized soil and construct a comprehensive prediction model encompassing BP neural network, gradient boosting decision tree, and linear regression models. Comparative analysis highlights the significant enhancement in prediction accuracy achieved by the proposed ensemble model over single machine learning models, with root mean square error (RMSE) values below 0.05 and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) values remaining under 2.5% in both frozen and unfrozen states. Additionally, a secondary validation using experimental data from other researchers confirms the model's good agreement with previous results, demonstrating its robust generalization ability. It is critical to identify and detect hazardous, flammable, explosive, and poisonous gases in the realms of industrial production and medical diagnostics. To detect and categorize a range of common hazardous gasses, we propose an attention-based Long Short term memory Full Convolutional network (ALSTM-FCN) in this paper. We adjust the network parameters of ALSTM-FCN using the Sparrow search algorithm (SSA) based on this, by comparison, SSA outperforms Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Algorithm, Genetic Algorithm (GA), Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO) Algorithm, Cuckoo Search (CS) Algorithm and other traditional optimization algorithms. We evaluate the model using University of California-Irvine (UCI) datasets and compare it with LSTM and FCN. The findings indicate that the ALSTM-FCN hybrid model has a better reliability test accuracy of 99.461% than both LSTM (89.471%) and FCN (96.083%). Furthermore, AdaBoost, logistic regression (LR), extra tree (ET), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), K-nearest neighbor (KNN) and other models were trained. The suggested approach outperforms the conventional machine learning model in terms of gas categorization accuracy, according to experimental data. The article explains the economic dynamics of the sports industry with adoption of deep learning algorithms and data mining methodology. Despite outstanding improvements in research of sports industry, a significant gap prevails with regard to proper quantification of economic benefits of this industry. Therefore, the current research is an attempt to filling this gap by proposing a specific economic model for the sports sector. This paper examines the data of sports industry covering the time span of 2012 to 2022 by using data mining technology for quantitative analyses. Deep learning algorithms and data mining techniques transform the gained information from sports industry databases into sophisticated economic models. In response to the rapidly evolving threat landscape in network security, this paper proposes an Evolutionary Machine Learning Algorithm designed for robust intrusion detection. We specifically address challenges such as adaptability to new threats and scalability across diverse network environments. Our approach is validated using two distinct datasets: BoT-IoT, reflecting a range of IoT-specific attacks, and UNSW-NB15, offering a broader context of network intrusion scenarios using GA based hybrid DT-SVM. Smart indoor tourist attractions, such as smart museums and aquariums, require a significant investment in indoor localization devices. The use of Global Positioning Systems on smartphones is unsuitable for scenarios where dense materials such as concrete and metal blocks weaken GPS signals, which is most often the case in indoor tourist attractions. With the help of deep learning, indoor localization can be done region by region using smartphone images. This approach requires no investment in infrastructure and reduces the cost and time needed to turn museums and aquariums into smart museums or smart aquariums. In this paper, we propose using deep learning algorithms to classify locations based on smartphone camera images for indoor tourist attractions. We evaluate our proposal in a real-world scenario in Brazil. We extensively collect images from ten different smartphones to classify biome-themed fish tanks in the Pantanal Biopark, creating a new dataset of 3654 images. We tested seven state-of-the-art neural networks, three of them based on transformers. On average, we achieved a precision of about 90% and a recall and f-score of about 89%. Aberrant methylation patterns in human DNA have great potential for the discovery of novel diagnostic and disease progression biomarkers. In this paper we used machine learning algorithms to identify promising methylation sites for diagnosing cancerous tissue and to classify patients based on methylation values at these sites. We used genome-wide DNA methylation patterns from both cancerous and normal tissue samples, obtained from the Genomic Data Commons consortium and trialled our methods on three types of urological cancer. A decision tree was used to identify the methylation sites most useful for diagnosis. The identified locations were then used to train a neural network to classify samples as either cancerous or non-cancerous. Using this two-step approach we found strong indicative biomarker panels for each of the three cancer types. Art research has long aimed to unravel the complex associations between specific attributes, such as color, complexity, and emotional expressiveness, and art judgments, including beauty, creativity, and liking. However, the fundamental distinction between attributes as inherent characteristics or features of the artwork and judgments as subjective evaluations remains an exciting topic. This paper reviews the literature of the last half century, to identify key attributes, and employs machine learning, specifically Gradient Boosted Decision Trees (GBDT), to predict 13 art judgments along 17 attributes. Ratings from 78 art novice participants were collected for 54 Western artworks. Our GBDT models successfully predicted 13 judgments significantly. Notably, judged creativity and disturbing/irritating judgments showed the highest predictability, with the models explaining 31% and 32% of the variance, respectively. The attributes emotional expressiveness, valence, symbolism, as well as complexity emerged as consistent and significant contributors to the models' performance. Content-representational attributes played a more prominent role than formal-perceptual attributes. Moreover, we found in some cases non-linear relationships between attributes and judgments with sudden inclines or declines around medium levels of the rating scales. By uncovering these underlying patterns and dynamics in art judgment behavior, our research provides valuable insights to advance the understanding of aesthetic experiences considering visual art, inform cultural practices, and inspire future research in the field of art appreciation. Student academic achievement is an important indicator for evaluating the quality of education, especially, the achievement prediction empowers educators in tailoring their instructional approaches, thereby fostering advancements in both student performance and the overall educational quality. However, extracting valuable insights from vast educational data to develop effective strategies for evaluating student performance remains a significant challenge for higher education institutions. Traditional machine learning (ML) algorithms often struggle to clearly delineate the interplay between the factors that influence academic success and the resulting grades. To address these challenges, this paper introduces the XGB-SHAP model, a novel approach for predicting student achievement that combines Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) with SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP). The model was applied to a dataset from a public university in Wuhan, encompassing the academic records of 87 students who were enrolled in a Japanese course between September 2021 and June 2023. The findings indicate the model excels in accuracy, achieving a Mean absolute error (MAE) of approximately 6 and an R-squared value near 0.82, surpassing three other ML models. The model further uncovers how different instructional modes influence the factors that contribute to student achievement. This insight supports the need for a customized approach to feature selection that aligns with the specific characteristics of each teaching mode. Combining different drugs synergistically is an essential aspect of developing effective treatments. Although there is a plethora of research on computational prediction for new combination therapies, there is limited to no research on combination therapies in the treatment of viral diseases. This paper proposes AI-based models for predicting novel antiviral combinations to treat virus diseases synergistically. To do this, we assembled a comprehensive dataset comprising information on viral strains, drug compounds, and their known interactions. As far as we know, this is the first dataset and learning model on combination therapy for viruses. Our proposal includes using a random forest model, an SVM model, and a deep model to train viral combination therapy. The machine learning models showed the highest performance, and the predicted values were validated by a t-test, indicating the effectiveness of the proposed methods. One of the predicted combinations of acyclovir and ribavirin has been experimentally confirmed to have a synergistic antiviral effect against herpes simplex type-1 virus, as described in the literature. Educational Data Mining (EDM) holds promise in uncovering insights from educational data to predict and enhance students' performance. This paper presents an advanced EDM system tailored for classifying and improving tertiary students' programming skills. Our approach emphasizes effective feature engineering, appropriate classification techniques, and the integration of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to elucidate model decisions. Through rigorous experimentation, including an ablation study and evaluation of six machine learning algorithms, we introduce a novel ensemble method, Stacking-SRDA, which outperforms others in accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, ROC curve, and McNemar test. Leveraging XAI tools, we provide insights into model interpretability. Previous studies have investigated the determinants of urban tourism development from the various attributes of neighborhood quality. However, traditional methods to assess neighborhood quality are often subjective, costly, and only on a small scale. To fill this research gap, this study applies the recent development in big data of street view images, deep learning algorithms, and image processing technology to assess quantitatively four attributes of neighborhood quality, namely street facilities, architectural landscape, green or ecological environment, and scene visibility. The paper collects more than 7.8 million Baidu SVPs of 232 prefecture-level cities in China and applies deep learning techniques to recognize these images. This paper then tries to examine the influence of neighborhood quality on regional tourism development. Empirical results show that both levels of street facilities and greenery environment promote tourism. However, the construction intensity of the landscape has an inhibitory influence on the development of tourism. The threshold test shows that the intensity of the influence varies with the city's overall economic level. These conclusions are of great significance for the development of China's urban construction and tourism economy, and also provide a useful reference for policymakers. As hieroglyphic languages, such as Chinese, differ from alphabetic languages, researchers have always been interested in using internal glyph features to enhance semantic representation. However, the models used in such studies are becoming increasingly computationally expensive, even for simple tasks like text classification. In this paper, we aim to balance model performance and computation cost in glyph-aware Chinese text classification tasks. To address this issue, we propose a lightweight ensemble learning method for glyph-aware Chinese text classification (LEGACT) that consists of typical shallow networks as base learners and machine learning classifiers as meta-learners. Through model design and a series of experiments, we demonstrate that an ensemble approach integrating shallow neural networks can achieve comparable results even when compared to large-scale transformer models. The contribution of this paper includes a lightweight yet powerful solution for glyph-aware Chinese text classification and empirical evidence of the significance of glyph features for hieroglyphic language representation. In recent years, considerable and valuable research progress has been made in indoor positioning technologies based on WLAN Radio Frequency (RF) fingerprinting, identifying it as one of the most promising positioning technologies with substantial potential for wider adoption. However, indoor environmental factors significantly influence the propagation of wireless RF signals, resulting in a considerable decrease in positioning accuracy as the indoor environmental conditions vary. Thus, effectively mitigating the impact of indoor environmental factors on WLAN RF fingerprinting-based positioning systems has become a crucial research problem. Currently, there is a dearth of comprehensive research on the influence of indoor climatic factors, particularly the variations in relative humidity, on the propagation of WLAN RF signals within indoor spaces and its consequential impact on positioning accuracy. To address the aforementioned issues, this paper proposes an Adaptive expansion fingerprint database (AeFd) model based on a regression learning algorithm. The AeFd, through the design of a relationship model describing the interaction between fingerprint databases under varying relative humidity, allows the fingerprint database expanded by AeFd to dynamically adapt to the changes in indoor relative humidity. Our experiments show that using the AeFd model with the KNN algorithm, a 5% performance improvement was observed over 10 days and an 8% improvement over 10 months. According to experimental test results, the fingerprint database expansion model AeFd proposed in this paper can effectively expand the fingerprint database under different relative humidity levels, thereby significantly enhancing the positioning performance of the system and improving its stability.
