PurposeThis study aims to provide healthcare providers with insights into relevant interventions by examining the timing, format, content, outcome measures, and effects of clown care interventions on hospitalized children.MethodsThis study utilized a scoping review methodology based on the framework by Arksey and O'Malley. The search for Chinese and English literature on the utilization of clown care for hospitalized children was conducted in databases including CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, China Biology Medicine Database, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library. At the same time, the references and other grey literatures included in the paper were also manually searched. covering publications from inception to December 10, 2023. Screening of the literature was done based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, with data extraction and synthesis carried out independently by two researchers.ResultsOut of 1084 articles screened, 18 were included. Clown care can be used with children who have burns, perioperative care, fracture rehabilitation, autism, puncture therapy, chemotherapy, respiratory pathologies and disabled children, according to a review of the literature. Clown care is feasible and available for these kids, and it has been shown to have favorable impacts. The main interventions used in clown care are guided imagery, cognitive coping, emotional reflection, distraction, and empowerment. Physical(reduced children's pain levels), psychological(reduced anxiety, improved coping skills, quicker recovery), cognitive-behavioral(for example, the number of meaningful words that children with autism say in 10 minutes.), and other indications are the several types of clown care outcome indicators.ConclusionsClown care can lessen a hospitalized child's pain, alleviate their worry, and divert their focus from illness and suffering. However, not all pediatric patients benefit from clown care. Every youngster is an independent individual with unique personality traits, and some may experience intense pain along with a terror of the clown role. Introduction: Studies in recent years have shown that high uric acid causes harm to the human body, which has become a serious public health problem. Elevated serum uric acid has been shown to be associated with obesity, but the relationship between BMI and uric acid (UA) remains controversial. Although the association between BMI and UA has been well studied, the effect of phosphorus levels in vivo on this association remains unclear. This study aimed to determine the relationship between BMI and serum uric acid and the effect of phosphorus on the relationship between the two. Research design and methods: The present study analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) continuous 2007–2018 cycle. We included 10786 participants aged 20 years and over. Multivariable linear regression was performed to assess the association between BMI and serum uric acid. phosphorus was stratified into low phosphorus (<3.3 mg/dl), middle phosphorus (3.3–3.9 mg/dl) and high phosphorus (>3.9 mg/dl). Correction of the effect of phosphorus was assessed by testing the interaction between BMI and UA in multivariate linear regression. Results: In this cross-sectional study, we found that BMI was positively associated with UA in the female population but not significantly in the male population or in the total population. In multiple regression analysis, UA was 0.51 higher in the highest female BMI group than in the lowest group (p = 0.0001). The relationship between BMI and UA differed significantly by gender under the influence of phosphorus, with men and women in Model II having a greater elevation of UA in men than in women within most groups. (BMI >30, phosphorus >3.9 mg/dl, β:0.83 95% CI: 0.43, 1.23 vs β: 0.79 95% CI: 0.30, 1.29). In addition, phosphorus significantly altered the positive association between BMI and UA in most models. Conclusion: Our results indicate significant associations between BMI and uric acid in women, with higher BMI values likely to be associated with a higher risk of hyperuricemia, suggesting that uric acid levels in obese people should be closely monitored in clinical practice. In the present study, a 16-week administration of a Myostatin-specific inhibitor, ACE-031, was injected into the suboccipital musculature of rats to establish an experimental animal model of hyperplasia of the suboccipital musculature. Using an optic fiber pressure measurement instrument, the present authors observed a significant increase in intracranial pressure (ICP) while utilizing the hyperplasia model. In contrast, surgically severing the MDB connections resulted in a significant decrease in intracranial pressure. Thus, these results indicated that muscular activation of the MDB may affect CSF circulation, suggesting a potential functional role of the MDB, and providing a new research perspective on CSF dynamics.

Introduction: Although the association between nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and vitamin C has been well studied, the effects of dietary potassium intake on this relationship are still unclear. Thus, this study aimed to determine the effects of dietary potassium intake on the association between vitamin C and NAFLD. Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers and is the leading cause of death worldwide. Platinum-based chemotherapy is the main treatment method in lung cancer patients. Our previous studies indicated that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in some transporter genes played important role in platinum-based chemotherapy efficacy. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of SNPs in transporter genes and platinum-based chemotherapy efficacy. The main polymorphisms on transporters OCT2, LRP, AQP2, AQP9 and TMEM205 genes were genotyped in 338 lung cancer patients. The rs195854 in genotypic model, rs896412 in genotypic and recessive models for all subjects showed significant association with chemotherapy response. In stratification analysis, TMEM205 rs896412, OCT2 rs1869641 and rs195854, AQP9 rs1516400 and AQP2 rs7314734 showed significant relation to chemotherapy response. In conclusion, the genetic polymorphisms in OCT2, AQP2, AQP9 and TMEM205 may contribute to chemotherapy response in lung cancer patients.

HIV-1 subtypes and drug resistance are routinely tested by many international surveillance groups. However, results from different sites often vary. A systematic comparison of results from multiple sites is needed to determine whether a standardized protocol is required for consistent and accurate data analysis. A panel of well-characterized HIV-1 isolates (N = 50) from the External Quality Assurance Program Oversight Laboratory (EQAPOL) was assembled for evaluation at seven international sites. This virus panel included seven subtypes, six circulating recombinant forms (CRFs), nine unique recombinant forms (URFs) and three group O viruses. Seven viruses contained 10 major drug resistance mutations (DRMs). HIV-1 isolates were prepared at a concentration of 107 copies/ml and compiled into blinded panels. Subtypes and DRMs were determined with partial or full pol gene sequences by conventional Sanger sequencing and/or Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). Subtype and DRM results were reported and decoded for comparison with full-length genome sequences generated by EQAPOL. The partial pol gene was amplified by RT-PCR and sequenced for 89.4%-100% of group M viruses at six sites. Subtyping results of majority of the viruses (83%-97.9%) were correctly determined for the partial pol sequences. All 10 major DRMs in seven isolates were detected at these six sites. The complete pol gene sequence was also obtained by NGS at one site. However, this method missed six group M viruses and sequences contained host chromosome fragments. Three group O viruses were only characterized with additional group O-specific RT-PCR primers employed by one site. These results indicate that PCR protocols and subtyping tools should be standardized to efficiently amplify diverse viruses and more consistently assign virus genotypes, which is critical for accurate global subtype and drug resistance surveillance. Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that impairs motor skills and cognitive function. To date, the disease has no effective therapies. The identification of new drugs that provide benefit in arresting the decline seen in PD patients is the focus of much recent study. However, the lengthy time frame for the progression of neurodegeneration in PD increases both the time and cost of examining potential therapeutic compounds in mammalian models. An alternative is to first evaluate the efficacy of compounds in Caenorhabditis elegans models, which reduces examination time from months to days. n-Butylidenephthalide is the naturally-occurring component derived from the chloroform extract of Angelica sinensis. It has been shown to have anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties, but no reports have yet described the effects of n-butylidenephthalide on PD. The aim of this study was to assess the potential for n-butylidenephthalide to improve PD in C. elegans models. Methodology/Principal Findings: In the current study, we employed a pharmacological strain that expresses green fluorescent protein specifically in dopaminergic neurons (BZ555) and a transgenic strain that expresses human α-synuclein in muscle cells (OW13) to investigate the antiparkinsonian activities of n-butylidenephthalide. Our results demonstrate that in PD animal models, n-butylidenephthalide significantly attenuates dopaminergic neuron degeneration induced by 6-hydroxydopamine; reduces α-synuclein accumulation; recovers lipid content, food-sensing behavior, and dopamine levels; and prolongs life-span of 6-hydroxydopamine treatment, thus revealing its potential as a possible antiparkinsonian drug. n-Butylidenephthalide may exert its effects by blocking egl-1 expression to inhibit apoptosis pathways and by raising rpn-6 expression to enhance the activity of proteasomes. Plant invasion is one of the major threats to natural ecosystems. Phenotypic plasticity is considered to be important for promoting plant invasiveness. High tolerance of stress can also increase survival of invasive plants in adverse habitats. Limited growth and conservation of carbohydrate are considered to increase tolerance of flooding in plants. However, few studies have examined whether invasive species shows a higher phenotypic plasticity in response to waterlogging or a higher tolerance of waterlogging (lower plasticity) than native species. We conducted a greenhouse experiment to compare the growth and morphological and physiological responses to waterlogging of the invasive, clonal, wetland species Alternanthera philoxeroides with those of its co-occurring, native, congeneric, clonal species Alternanthera sessilis. Plants of A. philoxeroides and A. sessilis were subjected to three treatments (control, 0 and 60 cm waterlogging). Both A. philoxeroides and A. sessilis survived all treatments. Overall growth was lower in A. philoxeroides than in A. sessilis, but waterlogging negatively affected the growth of A. philoxeroides less strongly than that of A. sessilis. Alternanthera philoxeroides thus showed less sensitivity of growth traits (lower plasticity) and higher waterlogging tolerance. Moreover, the photosynthetic capacity of A. philoxeroides was higher than that of A. sessilis during waterlogging. Alternanthera philoxeroides also had higher total non-structural and non-soluble carbohydrate concentrations than A. sessilis at the end of treatments. Our results suggest that higher tolerance to waterlogging and higher photosynthetic capacity may partly explain the invasion success of A. philoxeroides in wetlands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
