ObjectivesTo evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the aortic dissection detection risk score (ADD-RS) used alone or in combination with D-dimer for detecting acute aortic syndrome (AAS) in patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of AAS.MethodsWe searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library from inception to February 2024. Additionally, the reference lists of included studies and other systematic reviews were thoroughly searched. All diagnostic accuracy studies that assessed the use of ADD-RS alone or with D-Dimer for diagnosing AAS compared with a reference standard test (e.g. computer tomographic angiography (CTA), ECG-gated CTA, echocardiography, magnetic resonance angiography, operation, or autopsy) were included. Two reviewers independently selected and extracted data. Risk of bias was appraised using QUADAS-2 tool. Data were synthesised using hierarchical meta-analysis models.ResultsWe selected 13 studies from the 2017 citations identified, including six studies evaluating combinations of ADD-RS alongside D-dimer>500ng/L. Summary sensitivities and specificities (95% credible interval) were: ADD-RS>0 94.6% (90%, 97.5%) and 34.7% (20.7%, 51.2%), ADD-RS>1 43.4% (31.2%, 57.1%) and 89.3% (80.4%, 94.8%); ADD RS>0 or D-Dimer>500ng/L 99.8% (98.7%, 100%) and 21.8% (12.1%, 32.6%); ADD RS>1 or D-Dimer>500ng/L 98.3% (94.9%, 99.5%) and 51.4% (38.7%, 64.1%); ADD RS>1 or ADD RS = 1 with D-dimer>500ng/L 93.1% (87.1%, 96.3%) and 67.1% (54.4%, 77.7%).ConclusionsCombinations of ADD-RS and D-dimer can be used to select patients with suspected AAS for imaging with a range of trade-offs between sensitivity (93.1% to 99.8%) and specificity (21.8% to 67.1%).

Various deep learning techniques, including blockchain-based approaches, have been explored to unlock the potential of edge data processing and resultant intelligence. However, existing studies often overlook the resource requirements of blockchain consensus processing in typical Internet of Things (IoT) edge network settings. This paper presents our FLCoin approach. Specifically, we propose a novel committee-based method for consensus processing in which committee members are elected via the FL process. Additionally, we employed a two-layer blockchain architecture for federated learning (FL) processing to facilitate the seamless integration of blockchain and FL techniques. Our analysis reveals that the communication overhead remains stable as the network size increases, ensuring the scalability of our blockchain-based FL system. To assess the performance of the proposed method, experiments were conducted using the MNIST dataset to train a standard five-layer CNN model. Our evaluation demonstrated the efficiency of FLCoin. With an increasing number of nodes participating in the model training, the consensus latency remained below 3 s, resulting in a low total training time. Notably, compared with a blockchain-based FL system utilizing PBFT as the consensus protocol, our approach achieved a 90% improvement in communication overhead and a 35% reduction in training time cost. Our approach ensures an efficient and scalable solution, enabling the integration of blockchain and FL into IoT edge networks. The proposed architecture provides a solid foundation for building intelligent IoT services.

End-stage kidney disease (ESKD) presents a significant public health challenge, with hemodialysis (HD) remaining one of the most prevalent kidney replacement therapies. Ensuring the longevity and functionality of arteriovenous accesses is challenging for HD patients. Blood flow sound, which contains valuable information, has often been neglected in the past. However, machine learning offers a new approach, leveraging data non-invasively and learning autonomously to match the experience of healthcare professionas. This study aimed to devise a model for detecting arteriovenous grafts (AVGs) stenosis. A smartphone stethoscope was used to record the sound of AVG blood flow at the arterial and venous sides, with each recording lasting one minute. The sound recordings were transformed into mel spectrograms, and a 14-layer convolutional neural network (CNN) was employed to detect stenosis. The CNN comprised six convolution blocks with 3x3 kernel mapping, batch normalization, and rectified linear unit activation function. We applied contrastive learning to train the pre-training audio neural networks model with unlabeled data through self-supervised learning, followed by fine-tuning. This paper presents the design and analysis of a metamaterial-based compact dual-band antenna for WBAN applications. The antenna is designed and fabricated on a 0.254 mm thick semi-flexible substrate, RT/Duroid® 5880, with a relative permittivity of 2.2 and a loss tangent of 0.0009. The total dimensions of the antenna are 0.26λo×0.19λo×0.002λo, where λo corresponds to the free space wavelength at 2.45 GHz. To enhance overall performance and isolate the antenna from adverse effects of the human body, it is backed by a 2×2 artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) plane. The total volume of the AMC integrated design is 0.55λo×0.55λo×0.002λo. The paper investigates the antenna's performance both with and without AMC integration, considering on- and off-body states, as well as various bending conditions in both E and H-planes. Results indicate that the AMC-integrated antenna gives improved measured gains of 6.61 dBi and 8.02 dBi, with bandwidths of 10.12% and 7.43% at 2.45 GHz and 5.80 GHz, respectively. Furthermore, the AMC integrated antenna reduces the specific absorption rate (SAR) to (>96%) and (>93%) at 2.45 GHz and 5.80 GHz, meeting FCC requirements for low SAR at both frequencies when placed in proximity to the human body. CST Microwave Studio (MWS) and Ansys High-Frequency Structure Simulation (HFSS), both full-wave simulation tools, are utilized to evaluate the antenna's performance and to characterize the AMC unit cell. The simulated and tested results are in mutual agreement. Due to its low profile, high gain, adequate bandwidth, low SAR values, and compact size, the AMC integrated antenna is considered suitable for WBAN applications.

BackgroundThere is a paucity of evidence regarding the definition of the quality of primary health care (PHC) in China. This study aims to evaluate the PHC quality for chronic diseases in rural areas based on a modified conceptual framework tailored to the context of rural China.MethodsThis comprehensive study, involving a patient survey, a provider survey and chart abstraction, and second-hand registered data, was set in three low-resource counties in rural China from 2021 to 2022. Rural patients with hypertension or type 2 diabetes, and health care workers providing care on hypertension or diabetes were involved. The modified PHC quality framework encompasses three core domains: a competent PHC system (comprehensiveness, accessibility, continuity, and coordination), effective clinical care (assessment, diagnosis, treatment, disease management, and provider competence), and positive user experience (information sharing, shared decision-making, respect for patient's preferences, and family-centeredness). Standardized PHC quality score was generated by arithmetic means or Rasch models of Item Response Theory.ResultsThis study included 1355 patients, 333 health care providers and 2203 medical records. Ranging from 0 (the worst) to 1 (the best), the average quality score for the PHC system was 0.718, with 0.887 for comprehensiveness, 0.781 for accessibility, 0.489 for continuity, and 0.714 for coordination. For clinical care, average quality was 0.773 for disease assessment, 0.768 for diagnosis, 0.677 for treatment, 0.777 for disease management, and 0.314 for provider competence. The average quality for user experience was 0.727, with 0.933 for information sharing, 0.657 for shared decision-making, 0.936 for respect for patients' preferences, and 0.382 for family-centeredness. The differences in quality among population subgroups, although statistically significant, were small.ConclusionThe PHC quality in rural China has shown strengths and limitations. We identified large gaps in continuity of care, treatment, provider competence, family-centeredness, and shared decision-making. Policymakers should invest more effort in addressing these gaps to improve PHC quality.

Recycling of used products can provide substantial economic and environmental benefits for supply chain players. However, many factors associated with the design of closed-loop supply chain networks are uncertain in their nature, including demand, opening cost of facilities, capacity of opened facilities, transportation cost, and procurement cost. Therefore, this study proposes a novel fuzzy programming model for closed-loop supply chain network design, which directly relies on the fuzzy ranking method based on a credibility measure. The objective of the presented optimization model aims at minimizing the total cost of the network when selecting the facility locations and transportation routes between the nodes of the network. Based on the problem characteristics, a Migratory Birds Optimization Algorithm with a new product source encoding scheme is developed as a solution approach. The inspiration for the product source coding method originates from the label information of raw material supplier and manufacturing factories on product packaging, as well as the information of each logistics node on the delivery order. This novel encoding method aims to address the limitations of four traditional encoding methods: Prüfer number based encoding, spanning tree based encoding, forest data structure based encoding, and priority based encoding, thereby increasing the likelihood of heuristic algorithms finding the optimal solution. Thirty-five illustrative examples are developed to evaluate the proposed algorithm against the exact optimization method (LINGO) and a Genetic Algorithm, Ant Colony Optimization, Simulated Annealing, which are recognized as well-known metaheuristic algorithms. The results from extensive experiments show that the proposed algorithm is able to provide optimal and good-quality solutions within acceptable computational time even for large-scale numerical examples. The suitability of the model is confirmed through a meticulous sensitivity analysis. This analysis involves adjusting the confidence level incrementally from 50% to 100%, in 5% intervals, with respect to the model's uncertain parameters. Consequently, it yields valuable managerial insights. The outcomes of this research are expected to provide scientific support for related supply chain enterprises and stakeholders.

ObjectiveN-butylphthalide (NBP) is a monomeric compound extracted from natural plant celery seeds, whether intestinal microbiota alteration can modify its pharmacokinetics is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of intestinal microbiota alteration on the pharmacokinetics of NBP and its related mechanisms.MethodsAfter treatment with antibiotics and probiotics, plasma NBP concentrations in SD rats were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The effect of intestinal microbiota changes on NBP pharmacokinetics was compared. Intestinal microbiota changes after NBP treatment were analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing. Expressions of CYP3A1 mRNA and protein in the liver and small intestine tissues under different intestinal flora conditions were determined by qRT-PCR and Western Blot. KEGG analysis was used to analyze the effect of intestinal microbiota changes on metabolic pathways.ResultsCompared to the control group, the values of Cmax, AUC0-8, AUC0-∞, t1/2 in the antibiotic group increased by 56.1% (PConclusionAntibiotic treatment could affect the intestinal microbiota, decrease CYP3A1 mRNA and protein expressions and increase NBP exposure in vivo by inhibiting pathways related to NBP metabolism.

The dung beetle primarily feeds on the feces of herbivorous animals and play a crucial role in ecological processes like material cycles and soil improvement. This study aims to explore the diversity and composition of the gut microbiota of Catharsius molossus (a renowned dung beetle originating from China and introduced to multiple countries for its ecological value) and exploring whether these gut microbes are transmitted vertically across generations. Using 16S rRNA and ITS rRNA gene sequencing techniques, we described the diversity and composition of gut microbes in C. molossus from different localities and different developmental stages (Egg, young larvae and old larvae). We discovered that the diversity of gut microbiota of dung beetles varied obviously among different geographical localities and different developmental stages, and we also discussed the potential influencing factors. Interestingly, the microbial community structure within the brood balls is more similar to male dung beetle than to that of females, which is consistent with the observation that the brood ball is constructed by the male dung beetle, with the female laying egg in it at the final step. This unique breeding method facilitates offspring in inheriting microbial communities from both the mother and the father. Initially, the larvae's gut microbiota closely mirrors that of the parental gift in these brood balls. As larvae grow, significant changes occur in their gut microbiota, including an increase in symbiotic bacteria like Lactococcus and Enterococcus. Analysis of the gut bacteria of adult dung beetles across various localities and different developmental stages identified nine core genera in adults, contributing to 67.80% of the total microbial abundance, and 11 core genera in beetles at different developmental stages, accounting for 49.13% of the total. Notably, seven genera were common between these two core groups. Our results suggest that Parental gifts can play a role in the vertical transmission of microbes, and the abundance of probiotics increases with larval development, supporting the hypothesis that "larval feeding behavior occurs in two stages: larvae first feed on parental gifts to acquire necessary microbes, then enrich symbiotic microbiota through consuming their own feces."

Implant-associated osteomyelitis remains a major orthopaedic problem. As neutrophil swarming to the surgical site is a critical host response to prevent infection, visualization and quantification of this dynamic behavior at the native microenvironment of infection will elucidate previously unrecognized mechanisms central to understanding the host response. We recently developed longitudinal intravital imaging of the bone marrow (LIMB) to visualize host cells and fluorescent S. aureus on a contaminated transfemoral implant in live mice, which allows for direct visualization of bacteria colonization of the implant and host cellular responses using two-photon laser scanning microscopy. To the end of rigorous and reproducible quantitative outcomes of neutrophil swarming kinetics in this model, we developed a protocol for robust segmentation, tracking, and quantifications of neutrophil dynamics adapted from Trainable Weka Segmentation and TrackMate, two readily available Fiji/ImageJ plugins. In this work, Catchup mice with tdTomato expressing neutrophils received a transfemoral pin with or without ECFP/EGFP-expressing USA300 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) to obtain 30-minute LIMB videos at 2-, 4-, and 6-hours post-implantation. The developed semi-automated neutrophil tracking protocol was executed independently by two users to quantify the distance, displacement, speed, velocity, and directionality of the target cells. The results revealed high inter-user reliability for all outcomes (ICC > 0.96; p > 0.05). Consistent with the established paradigm on increased neutrophil swarming during active infection, the results also demonstrated increased neutrophil speed and velocity at all measured time points, and increased displacement at later time points (6 hours) in infected versus uninfected mice (p < 0.05). Neutrophils and bacteria also exhibit directionality during migration in the infected mice. The semi-automated cell tracking protocol provides a streamlined approach to robustly identify and track individual cells across diverse experimental settings and eliminates inter-observer variability.

Age-related hearing loss is a complex disease caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, and a study have conducted animal experiments to explore the association between BCL11B heterozygosity and age-related hearing loss. The present study used established genetic models to examine the association between BCL11B gene polymorphisms and age-related hearing loss. A total of 410 older adults from two communities in Qingdao, China, participated in this study. The case group comprised individuals aged ≥ 60 years with age-related hearing loss, and the control group comprised individuals without age-related hearing loss from the same communities. The groups were matched 1:1 for age and sex. The individual characteristics of the participants were analyzed descriptively using the Mann-Whitney U test and the chi-square test. To explore the association between BCL11B gene polymorphisms and age-related hearing loss, conditional logistic regression was performed to construct genetic models for two single-nucleotide-polymorphisms (SNPs) of BCL11B, and haplotype analysis was conducted to construct their haplotype domains. Two SNP sites of the BCL11B gene, four genetic models of rs1152781 (additive, dominant, recessive, and codominant), and five genetic models of rs1152783 (additive, dominant, recessive, codominant, and over dominant) were significantly associated with age-related hearing loss in the models both unadjusted and adjusted for all covariates (P < 0.05). Additionally, a linkage disequilibrium between rs1152781 and rs1152783 was revealed through haplotype analysis. Our study revealed that BCL11B gene polymorphisms were significantly associated with age-related hearing loss.

BackgroundFunctional dyspepsia (FD) refers to a group of clinical symptoms caused by gastric and duodenal dysfunction. Which is a chronic functional disorder of the gastrointestinal tract with no cure. Zhishixiaopi decoction (ZSXP) is a type of Chinese herbal prescription that for treating FD. Although some randomized controlled trials (RCTs) report that ZSXP can significantly improve FD clinical symptoms and/or laboratory results, the trial design varies greatly among studies, making it challenging to draw a conclusion of the efficacy of ZSXP in treating FD.DesignA systematic review and a meta-analysis.SettingMianyang Central Hospital.ObjectiveWe conducted a systematic review and a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of ZSXP for treating FD.MethodsWe developed inclusion and exclusion criteria based on FD diagnosed criteria, interventions to treat FD, and outcomes of these interventions. Search strategies combined disease terms, symptom terms, anatomy terms and intervention terms. Literature search was conducted on eight online databases in English or Chinese, including Medline (via PubMed), Embase (via Ovid), The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, China Biology Medicine (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journals Database (VIP), and Wanfang Database.InterventionThe experimental group received oral administration of ZSXP and had a complete treatment process. ZSXP needs to fully contain the key herbal ingredients, regardless of whether the dosage of each herb is consistent with the original prescription. The Control group received monotherapy or combination therapy of other Western medicine and had a complete treatment process.OutcomesThe primary outcomes appraised were Total effective rate (TER), serum levels of Motilin(MOT), Gastrin(GAS) and Somatostatin (SS), Gastric emptying rate (GER) using a Barium meal method (GER(B)) and Gastric half emptying time using an Ultrasonic method (GHET(T1/2)). The Cochrane Bias Risk Tool was used for quality critical appraisal, Review Manager (RevMan) version 5.3 was used for statistical analysis.ResultsA total of 21 medium-quality RCTs were included in the meta-analysis. All 21 included studies were conducted and completed in Mainland China from 1998 to 2020. The treatment duration was between two weeks to two months. The meta-analysis suggests that, compared with the Western medicine treatment group, ZSXP treatment was more effective to improving the TER in FD [Odds ratio, OR = 3.54, 95%CI:(2.49, 5.05), Z = 6.99, PConclusionsThe meta-analysis suggests that Zhishixiaopi treatment is a relatively effective and safe traditional Chinese medicine prescription and could be used for functional dyspepsia treatment. Considering the limitations of this study, the conclusion needs to be further confirmed by high-quality, multi-center, and large-sample randomized controlled trials.

BackgroundThe impact of bacterial vaginosis on women's health is an increasing concern; however, the effect of the obesity index on bacterial vaginosis is controversial. We investigated the association between body mass index and bacterial vaginosis in women in the United States.MethodsThis was a cross-sectional study which obtained the data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2001 to 2004, in which weighted multivariate regression and logistic regression analyses were performed to explore the independent relationship between body mass index and bacterial vaginosis. Subgroup analyses and smoothed curve fitting were also performed.ResultsA total of 5,428 participants were enrolled, and the findings show that the participants with higher body mass index tended to have a higher incidence of bacterial vaginosis. In the fully adjusted model, a positive association between bacterial vaginosis and body mass index was observed (Odd's ratio = 1.03, 95% Confidence interval, 1.01-1.04). The subgroup analysis showed that this positive association was significant in non-Hispanic White individuals (Odd's ratio = 1.0327, 95% Confidence interval, 1.0163, 1.0493).ConclusionIncreased bacterial vaginosis positivity may be associated with an increased body mass index.

Increasing yield is an important goal of barley breeding. In this study, 54 papers published from 2001-2022 on QTL mapping for yield and yield-related traits in barley were collected, which contained 1080 QTLs mapped to the barley high-density consensus map for QTL meta-analysis. These initial QTLs were integrated into 85 meta-QTLs (MQTL) with a mean confidence interval (CI) of 2.76 cM, which was 7.86-fold narrower than the CI of the initial QTL. Among these 85 MQTLs, 68 MQTLs were validated in GWAS studies, and 25 breeder's MQTLs were screened from them. Seventeen barley orthologs of yield-related genes in rice and maize were identified within the hcMQTL region based on comparative genomics strategy and were presumed to be reliable candidates for controlling yield-related traits. The results of this study provide useful information for molecular marker-assisted breeding and candidate gene mining of yield-related traits in barley.

Automatic Urdu handwritten text recognition is a challenging task in the OCR industry. Unlike printed text, Urdu handwriting lacks a uniform font and structure. This lack of uniformity causes data inconsistencies and recognition issues. Different writing styles, cursive scripts, and limited data make Urdu text recognition a complicated task. Major languages, such as English, have experienced advances in automated recognition, whereas low-resource languages, such as Urdu, still lag. Transformer-based models are promising for automated recognition in high- and low-resource languages such as Urdu. This paper presents a transformer-based method called ET-Network that integrates self-attention into EfficientNet for feature extraction and a transformer for language modeling. The use of self-attention layers in EfficientNet helps to extract global and local features that capture long-range dependencies. These features proceeded into a vanilla transformer to generate text, and a prefix beam search is used for the finest outcome. NUST-UHWR, UPTI2.0, and MMU-OCR-21 are three datasets used to train and test the ET Network for a handwritten Urdu script. The ET-Network improved the character error rate by 4% and the word error rate by 1.55%, while establishing a new state-of-the-art character error rate of 5.27% and a word error rate of 19.09% for Urdu handwritten text.

In order to investigate the development of the temperature field of a new type of freezing reinforcement under seepage conditions, in this paper, COMSOL finite element software was used to simplify the model and simulate the effect of groundwater seepage on the development of the temperature field of frozen pipes by coupling the Darcy's law module and the heat transfer module for porous media. The heads of water were also varied to simulate the change in seepage velocity to further investigate the effect of seepage velocity on the temperature field. The results of the study show that the freezing wall formed in the high head region was thinner than that in the low head region due to the effect of seepage, and this phenomenon was aggravated with the increase of seepage rate; The effect of seepage action on the temperature field had a hysteresis along the seepage direction; When the seepage rate was greater than 1.65 m/d, the soil in the center of the device feezed better and could form a tight and dense freezing wall comparable to the size of the freezing device; When the seepage rate was greater than 5.78 m/d, the temperature of the center soil body gradually increased, and eventually the freezing curtain cannot be formed.

BackgroundTalar fractures often require osteotomy during surgery to achieve reduction and screw fixation of the fractured fragments due to limited visualization and operating space of the talar articular surface. The objective of this study was to evaluate the horizontal approach to the medial malleolus facet by maximizing exposure through dorsiflexion and plantarflexion positions.MethodsIn dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, and functional foot positions, we respectively obtained the anterior and posterior edge lines of the projection of the medial malleolus on the medial malleolar facet. The talar model from Mimics was imported into Geomagic software for image refinement. Then Solidworks software was used to segment the medial surface of the talus and extend the edge lines from the three positions to project them onto the "semicircular" base for 2D projection. The exposed area in different positions, the percentage of total area it represents, and the anatomic location of the insertion point at the groove between the anteroposternal protrusions of the medial malleolus were calculated.ResultsThe mean total area of the "semicircular" region on the medial malleolus surface of the talus was 542.10 ± 80.05 mm2. In the functional position, the exposed mean area of the medial malleolar facet around the medial malleolus both anteriorly and posteriorly was 141.22 ± 24.34 mm2, 167.58 ± 22.36mm2, respectively. In dorsiflexion, the mean area of the posterior aspect of the medial malleolar facet was 366.28 ± 48.12 mm2. In plantarflexion, the mean of the anterior aspect of the medial malleolar facet was 222.70 ± 35.32 mm2. The mean overlap area of unexposed area in both dorsiflexion and plantarflexion was 23.32 ± 5.94 mm2. The mean percentage of the increased exposure area in dorsiflexion and plantarflexion were 36.71 ± 3.25% and 15.13 ± 2.83%. The mean distance from the insertion point to the top of the talar dome was 10.69 ± 1.24 mm, to the medial malleolus facet border of the talar trochlea was 5.61 ± 0.96 mm, and to the tuberosity of the posterior tibiotalar portion of the deltoid ligament complex was 4.53 ± 0.64 mm.ConclusionsWithin the 3D model, we measured the exposed area of the medial malleolus facet in different positions and the anatomic location of the insertion point at the medial malleolus groove. When the foot is in plantarflexion or dorsiflexion, a sufficiently large area and operating space can be exposed during surgery. The data regarding the exposed visualization area and virtual screws need to be combined with clinical experience for safer reduction and fixation of fracture fragments. Further validation of its intraoperative feasibility will require additional clinical research.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a sudden loss of renal function with a high mortality rate and inflammation is thought to be the underlying cause. The phenylpropanoid components acteoside (ACT) and isoacteoside (ISO), which were isolated from Cistanche deserticola Y.C.Ma, have been reported to have preventive effects against kidney disorders. This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory properties and protective mechanisms of ACT and ISO. In this investigation, kidney function was assessed using a semi-automatic biochemical analyzer, histopathology was examined using Hematoxylin-Eosin staining and immunohistochemistry, and the concentration of inflammatory cytokines was assessed using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test. The lynx spiders (Araneae: Oxyopidae) represent one of the most diverse and widespread cursorial spider groups, however their species richness in Asia is highly underestimated. In this study, we revised species diversity with extensive taxon sampling in Taiwan and explored species boundaries based on morphological traits and genetic data using a two-step approach of molecular species delimitation. Firstly, we employed a single COI dataset and applied two genetic distance-based methods: ABGD and ASAP, and two topology-based methods: GMYC and bPTP. Secondly, we further analyzed the lineages that were not consistently delimited, and incorporated H3 to the dataset for a coalescent-based analysis using BPP. A total of eight morphological species were recognized, including five new species, Hamataliwa cordivulva sp. nov., Hamat. leporauris sp. nov., Tapponia auriola sp. nov., T. parva sp. nov. and T. rarobulbus sp. nov., and three newly recorded species, Hamadruas hieroglyphica (Thorell, 1887), Hamat. foveata Tang & Li, 2012 and Peucetia latikae Tikader, 1970. All eight morphological species exhibited reciprocally monophyletic lineages. The results of molecular-based delimitation analyses suggested a variety of species hypotheses that did not fully correspond to the eight morphological species. We found that Hamat. cordivulva sp. nov. and Hamat. foveata showed shallow genetic differentiation in the COI, but they were unequivocally distinguishable according to their genitalia. In contrast, T. parva sp. nov. represented a deep divergent lineage, while differences of genitalia were not detected. This study highlights the need to comprehensively employ multiple evidence and methods to delineate species boundaries and the values of diagnostic morphological characters for taxonomic studies in lynx spiders.

Understanding the evolution of rural landscapes in metropolises during rapid urbanization is crucial for formulating policies to protect the rural ecological environment. In this study, remote sensing and geographical information system data, as well as applied landscape index analysis, are used to examine the spatiotemporal evolution of rural landscape patterns in the Beijing-Tianjin region of China, which has experienced rapid urbanization. The relationships between land use/land cover changes and changes in rural landscape patterns are explored. The results revealed significant spatial differences in the rural landscapes in the Beijing-Tianjin region; farmland and forestland were the main types of landscapes, creating a "mountain-field-sea" natural landscape pattern. The conversion of rural landscapes in the Beijing-Tianjin region involved mainly the conversion of farmland to urban areas, with few exchanges between other landscape types. The urban areas in the Beijing-Tianjin region increased by 3% per decade; farmland decreased at the same rate. Additionally, the rural landscape patterns in the Beijing-Tianjin region were dominated by fragmentation, dispersion, and heterogeneity and moved from complex to regular. Water bodies displayed the most fragmented natural landscape; their number of patches increased by 36%, though their network characteristics were maintained. Forestland was the most concentrated natural landscape. In this study, theoretical support and a scientific reference for the optimization of rural landscape patterns and the improvement in rural living environments in rapidly urbanizing areas are provided.

Standard race adjustments for estimating glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and reference creatinine can yield a lower acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) prevalence among African American patients than non-race adjusted estimates. We developed two race-agnostic computable phenotypes that assess kidney health among 139,152 subjects admitted to the University of Florida Health between 1/2012-8/2019 by removing the race modifier from the estimated GFR and estimated creatinine formula used by the race-adjusted algorithm (race-agnostic algorithm 1) and by utilizing 2021 CKD-EPI refit without race formula (race-agnostic algorithm 2) for calculations of the estimated GFR and estimated creatinine. We compared results using these algorithms to the race-adjusted algorithm in African American patients. Using clinical adjudication, we validated race-agnostic computable phenotypes developed for preadmission CKD and AKI presence on 300 cases. Race adjustment reclassified 2,113 (8%) to no CKD and 7,901 (29%) to a less severe CKD stage compared to race-agnostic algorithm 1 and reclassified 1,208 (5%) to no CKD and 4,606 (18%) to a less severe CKD stage compared to race-agnostic algorithm 2. Of 12,451 AKI encounters based on race-agnostic algorithm 1, race adjustment reclassified 591 to No AKI and 305 to a less severe AKI stage. Of 12,251 AKI encounters based on race-agnostic algorithm 2, race adjustment reclassified 382 to No AKI and 196 (1.6%) to a less severe AKI stage. The phenotyping algorithm based on refit without race formula performed well in identifying patients with CKD and AKI with a sensitivity of 100% (95% confidence interval [CI] 97%-100%) and 99% (95% CI 97%-100%) and a specificity of 88% (95% CI 82%-93%) and 98% (95% CI 93%-100%), respectively. Race-agnostic algorithms identified substantial proportions of additional patients with CKD and AKI compared to race-adjusted algorithm in African American patients. The phenotyping algorithm is promising in identifying patients with kidney disease and improving clinical decision-making.

ObjectivePreeclampsia (PE) is a severe complication of unclear pathogenesis associated with pregnancy. This research aimed to elucidate the properties of immune cell infiltration and potential biomarkers of PE based on bioinformatics analysis.Materials and methodsTwo PE datasets were imported from the Gene ExpressioOmnibus (GEO) and screened to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Significant module genes were identified by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). DEGs that interacted with key module genes (GLu-DEGs) were analyzed further by Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Gene Ontology (GO) analyses. The diagnostic value of the genes was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks were constructed using GeneMANIA, and GSVA analysis was performed using the MSigDB database. Immune cell infiltration was analyzed using the TISIDB database, and StarBase and Cytoscape were used to construct an RBP-mRNA network. The identified hub genes were validated in two independent datasets. For further confirmation, placental tissue from healthy pregnant women and women with PE were collected and analyzed using both RT-qPCR and immunohistochemistry.ResultsA total of seven GLu-DEGs were obtained and were found to be involved in pathways associated with the transport of sulfur compounds, PPAR signaling, and energy metabolism, shown by GO and KEGG analyses. GSVA indicated significant increases in adipocytokine signaling. Furthermore, single-sample Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (ssGSEA) indicated that the levels of activated B cells and T follicular helper cells were significantly increased in the PE group and were negatively correlated with GLu-DEGs, suggesting their potential importance.ConclusionIn summary, the results showed a correlation between glutamine metabolism and immune cells, providing new insights into the understandingPE pathogenesis and furnishing evidence for future advances in the treatment of this disease.

The Brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål; BPH) is known to cause significant damage to rice crops in Asia, and the use of host-resistant varieties is an effective and environmentally friendly approach for controlling BPH. However, genes limited resistance genes that are used in insect-resistant rice breeding programs, and landrace rice varieties are materials resources that carry rich and versatile genes for BPH resistance. Two landrace indica rice accessions, CL45 and CL48, are highly resistant to BPH and show obvious antibiosis against BPH. A novel resistance locus linked to markers 12M16.983 and 12M19.042 was identified, mapped to chromosome 12 in CL45, and designated Bph46. It was finely mapped to an interval of 480 kb and Gene 3 may be the resistance gene. Another resistance locus linked to markers RM26567 and 11MA104 was identified and mapped to chromosome 11 in CL48 and designated qBph11.3 according to the nominating rule. It was finely mapped to an interval of 145 kb, and LOC_Os11g29090 and LOC_Os11g29110 may be the resistance genes. Moreover, two markers, 12M16.983 and 11MA104, were developed for CL45 and CL48, respectively, using marker-assisted selection (MAS) and were confirmed by backcrossing individuals and phenotypic detection. Interestingly, we found that the black glume color is closely linked to the BPH resistance gene in CL48 and can effectively assist in the identification of positive individuals for breeding. Finally, several near-isogenic lines with a 9311 or KW genetic background, as well as pyramid lines with two resistance parents, were developed using MAS and exhibited significantly high resistance against BPHs.

The new material introduced by the ITTF in 2014 for table tennis balls has attracted significant attention from players and coaches. Changes in both material selection and production procedures are likely to have affected the static performance of the ball. However, the raw data regarding the elasticity and hardness of these new material balls, encompassing various brands and structures, often lacks practical information crucial for players' rapid adaptation and daily training. The static properties tested in this study were provided by the ITTF, covering both hardness and elasticity. Based on computed variables, this study revealed that the hardness of seam balls at the equator was not consistently higher than that at the pole. Additionally, the study confirmed that the hardness and bounce height of new material balls exceeded those of celluloid. Furthermore, correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between these two properties, revealing a significant correlation between the hardness of seamless balls and their elasticity. This study provides an analysis of the static performance of various types of new material balls, aiding players and coaches in better understanding official event balls and offering a theoretical foundation for the formulation of diverse training and game strategies.

BackgroundThere is a correlation between obesity and 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) that tends to be negative. However, this relationship varies among different races. In this study, Asian adults with and without obesity were compared in terms of their levels of 25OHD.MethodsWe carried out a cross-sectional analysis on 2664 non-Hispanic Asian adults who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted between 2011 and 2018. To examine the connection between obese status, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference (WC) and weight, and 25OHD, we ran multivariate linear regression models and multivariate logistic regression models.ResultsAfter adjusting for all confounding factors, obesity status shows a significant positive correlation with vitamin D deficiency (model 3: OR = 2.318, 95% CI:1.317, 4.082). This positive correlation remains significant in males (males: OR = 2.713, 95% CI: -13.398, 5.217). In all three models, a negative association was observed between obesity status and 25OHD (model 1: β = -4.535, 95% CI: -6.987, -2.083; model 2 β = -4.249, 95% CI: -6.549, -2.039; model 3 β = -1.734, 95% CI: -7.285, 3.816). After controlling for covariates, there was a significant negative correlation between WC and 25OHD when stratified by gender and obesity status in both males with and without obesity (males with obesity: β = -1.461, 95% CI: -2.485, -0.436; males without obesity: β = -0.855. 95% CI: -1.499, -0.210). In males with obesity, there was a very strong positive connection between body weight and 25OHD (β = 0.912, 95% CI: 0.227, 1.597). In addition, neither gender's obese individuals showed a significant link between BMI and 25OHD.ConclusionThis study demonstrated a positive correlation between obesity and vitamin D deficiency and a negative correlation between obesity and 25OHD in Asian American adults. Additionally, among male obese individuals, there was a significant negative correlation between WC and 25OHD, an observation that needs to be validated in further prospective studies.

The literature has confirmed that when managers increase profits through earnings management, the readability of annual reports may be reduced Lo (2017), Ye (2018). Whether this conclusion is suitable for Chinese corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports, however, is still unclear. Based on the panel data of 5083 Chinese non-financial listed companies from 2010 to 2019, this paper adopts multiple linear regression to investigate the impact of earnings management on the readability of Chinese CSR reports. The results show that: (1) There is a significant negative correlation between earnings management and the readability of Chinese CSR reports, with the readability of Chinese annual reports as a mediating variable. (2) The negative effect is more significant when companies are not punished for violations, when the internal control index is low, when companies lack ISO14001 certification and when companies do not have independent third-party authentication for Chinese CSR reports. (3) When earnings management just exceeds zero, the readability of Chinese CSR reports decreases. (4) The economic consequences of reducing the readability of Chinese CSR reports are that financing costs are increased and environmental performance is decreased. To improve the quality of information disclosure of listed companies, the recommendations are as follows: First, the government should issue CSR reporting standards to reduce the manipulation of Chinese CSR reports. Second, Chinese CSR reports disclosed by listed companies must be audited by independent third parties to enhance the credibility of the information. Third, the company needs to strengthen its external and internal supervision to reduce the manipulation space for the readability of Chinese CSR reports. This study extends the negative relationship between earnings management and the readability from annual reports to Chinese CSR reports. To prevent investors from detecting earnings management, the readability of Chinese CSR reports may be reduced. At the same time, the study has definitely added value to the existing literature in the domain of CSR.

BackgroundThere is a call for gathering more evidence on the effectiveness of telerehabilitation in stroke. In particular, a previous systematic review reported substantial variability in the types of technologies used in telerehabilitation interventions. The purpose of this study will be to summarize and synthesize findings on the effects of telerehabilitation based on real-time intervention between therapist and participants for patients with stroke.Methods and analysisThis systematic review will follow the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. This systematic review protocol was registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO) on 25 May 2023 (registration number: CRD420234265527). Electronic searches will be performed in the following databases: MEDLINE, Pubmed, Web of Science, PsycINFO and CINAHL electronic databases, using a date range from inception to November 2023. We will include only randomized controlled trials for patients diagnosed with stroke who received telerehabilitation based on real-time interaction between therapist and patients. The exploration will be restricted to publications in the English language. Physical function, activities of daily living and quality of life are the outcomes. We will examine the changes of the outcomes at baseline, at the end of the intervention, and at specific time points during the follow-up after the intervention.DiscussionThis systematic review will provide evidence regarding telerehabilitation for people with stroke.

Sign language recognition presents significant challenges due to the intricate nature of hand gestures and the necessity to capture fine-grained details. In response to these challenges, a novel approach is proposed-Lightweight Attentive VGG16 with Random Forest (LAVRF) model. LAVRF introduces a refined adaptation of the VGG16 model integrated with attention modules, complemented by a Random Forest classifier. By streamlining the VGG16 architecture, the Lightweight Attentive VGG16 effectively manages complexity while incorporating attention mechanisms that dynamically concentrate on pertinent regions within input images, resulting in enhanced representation learning. Leveraging the Random Forest classifier provides notable benefits, including proficient handling of high-dimensional feature representations, reduction of variance and overfitting concerns, and resilience against noisy and incomplete data. Additionally, the model performance is further optimized through hyperparameter optimization, utilizing the Optuna in conjunction with hill climbing, which efficiently explores the hyperparameter space to discover optimal configurations. The proposed LAVRF model demonstrates outstanding accuracy on three datasets, achieving remarkable results of 99.98%, 99.90%, and 100% on the American Sign Language, American Sign Language with Digits, and NUS Hand Posture datasets, respectively.

The positional workload characteristics in rugby union on three acquisition days (i.e. strength, endurance, and speed days) of tactical periodization are still relatively unknown. Therefore, the primary aim of this study was to shed light on the positional external workload variables (10 Hz Global Positioning System and accelerometer microtechnology) and internal workload indicators (the session rating of perceived exertion) of players in a professional rugby union team by utilizing and comparing two tactical periodization models. Twenty-six male players (15 forwards and 11 backs) were recruited from a French second-division rugby club. Data were obtained over 10 weeks of in-season home games: a total of 780 observations were analyzed. Student's t-test observed different external workload profiles between positions among acquisition days. Mean external workload values, except PlayerLoadslow, were significantly higher (p≤0.01; effect size: 0.41-1.93) for backs than forwards for all acquisition days. Moreover, forwards perceived a higher internal workload than backs on the strength day of both models. The findings demonstrate that applying these two tactical periodization models could result in effective rugby union training. Validating external and internal workload characteristics on tactical periodization acquisition days enables extensive analysis of training load monitoring data; these data can be utilized to discover the unique characteristics of each position and design position-specific acquisition days to improve performance.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are promising therapeutic agents for cartilage regeneration, including the potential of cells to promote chondrogenesis in vivo. However, process development and regulatory approval of MSCs as cell therapy products benefit from facile in vitro approaches that can predict potency for a given production run. Current standard in vitro approaches include a 21 day 3D differentiation assay followed by quantification of cartilage matrix proteins. We propose a novel biophysical marker that is cell population-based and can be measured from in vitro monolayer culture of MSCs. We hypothesized that the self-assembly pattern that emerges from collective-cell behavior would predict chondrogenesis motivated by our observation that certain features in this pattern, namely, topological defects, corresponded to mesenchymal condensations. Indeed, we observed a strong predictive correlation between the degree-of-order of the pattern at day 9 of the monolayer culture and chondrogenic potential later estimated from in vitro 3D chondrogenic differentiation at day 21. These findings provide the rationale and the proof-of-concept for using self-assembly patterns to monitor chondrogenic commitment of cell populations. Such correlations across multiple MSC donors and production batches suggest that self-assembly patterns can be used as a candidate biophysical attribute to predict quality and efficacy for MSCs employed therapeutically for cartilage regeneration.

The rheological properties of asphalt can well reflect its road performance, but the rheological properties of warm mix high viscosity asphalt (HVA) are unclear. In order to study the effect of warm mixing agent on rheological properties of HVA, two kinds of warm mixing agent EC120 (EC) and Evotherm M1 (M1) were selected to prepare warm mix HVA. The rheological properties of warm mix HVA at high temperature (135~195°C), medium temperature (0~80°C) and low temperature (-6~18°C) were studied by Brinell rotary viscosity test, dynamic shear rheological test (including temperature scanning, frequency scanning, linear amplitude scanning) and bending beam rheological test. The test results show that both EC and M1 have good viscosity reduction effect on HVA at high temperature, and can effectively reduce the construction temperature. At medium temperature, M1 can effectively improve the fatigue resistance of HVA, and the fatigue life can be increased by about 30% when the dosage is 0.6%. EC can increase the rutting factor of HVA and improve its resistance to deformation, but it will reduce its fatigue performance. When the dosage is 4%, the fatigue life will be reduced by about 9%. At low temperature, M1 can reduce the creep stiffness S, increase the creep rate m, and improve the low temperature performance of HVA, while EC has the opposite effect, weakening the low temperature performance of HVA. The results are helpful to understand the rheological properties of warm mix HVA and promote its application.

Statistical Learning (SL) refers to human's ability to detect regularities from environment Kirkham, N. Z. (2002) & Saffran, J. R. (1996). There has been a growing interest in understanding how sensitivity to statistical regularities influences learning to read. The current study systematically examined whether and how non-linguistic SL, Chinese SL, and English SL contribute to Chinese and English word reading among native Chinese-speaking 4th, 6th and 8th graders who learn English as a second language (L2). Children showed above-chance learning across all SL tasks and across all grades. In addition, developmental improvements were shown across at least two of the three grade ranges on all SL tasks. In terms of the contribution of SL to reading, non-linguistic auditory SL (ASL), English visual SL (VSL), and Chinese ASL accounted for a significant amount of variance in English L2 word reading. Non-linguistic ASL, Chinese VSL, English VSL, and English ASL accounted for a significant amount of variance in Chinese word reading. Our results provide clear and novel evidence for cross-linguistic contribution from Chinese SL to English reading, and from English SL to Chinese reading, highlighting a bi-directional relationship between SL in one language and reading in another language.

In order to solve the problem that the skid resistance of concrete pavement in tunnel deteriorates rapidly, which is easy to cause traffic accidents, the anti-skid rapid elevation technology of surface treatment is proposed. Wear tests were used to investigate the effects of concrete surface roughness, properties of modified emulsified asphalt binder and anti-skid fine aggregate type on long-term skid resistance of treated surfaces. The results show that the four coarsening methods of fine milling, milling, grooving and brooming can improve the skid resistance of concrete, and the skid resistance durability of fine milling and milling is better. The adhesive property of modified emulsified asphalt is the best when the content of water-based epoxy resin is 20%. In different aggregates, the anti-skid effect is better when silicon carbide is used as anti-skid aggregate and the particle size is 0.6mm:0.3mm = 2:3. The method of fine milling of concrete surface + spraying epoxy emulsified asphalt + spreading silicon carbide can effectively improve the anti-skid performance of the original concrete pavement, and the feasibility of the scheme is verified by the test road. The research results have a good reference value for improving the skid resistance of tunnel concrete pavement.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of performance feedback (performance expectation surplus, performance expectation deficit) on corporate ESG performance, and this paper also to investigate the role of environmental strategy as a mechanism in the impact of enterprises' performance feedback on corporate ESG performance.Design/methodology/approachThe study used data from 3679 companies listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges for the period 2009-2021 and also measured the intensity of corporate environmental strategies through analysis. Finally, we used a fixed effects model to test the research hypothesis.FindingsThis study shows that enterprise performance feedback positively affects corporate ESG performance and that environmental strategy plays a significant mechanistic role in enterprise performance feedback and corporate ESG performance. Overall, performance expectation surplus negatively affects ESG performance, performance expectation deficit positively affects ESG performance, and the mechanism of environmental strategy plays a significant role in performance expectation deficit and ESG performance.Practical implicationsThe results of this study can help enterprises establish a scientific environmental management system, strengthen the supervision of enterprise environmental management, and have certain reference significance for enterprises to speed up the implementation of environmental protection measures.Originality/valueThis study adds to the literature by describing corporate ESG performance using performance feedback theory and explaining the inherent role of enterprise performance feedback in corporate ESG performance utilizing environmental strategies.

Graphene has promising applications in agriculture and forestry. In the current study, six different concentrations of graphene (0mg/L, 0.01mg/L, 0.10mg/L, 1.00mg/L, 10.00mg/L, and 100.00mg/L) were used to investigate its effect on the growth and development of V. angularis plants in soil culture. The results showed that the group treated with 1.00mg/L graphene (G-1) had significantly increased plant height (19.86%), stem diameter (24.33%), and leaf area (13.69%), compared to the control group (CK). Moreover, all concentrations of graphene had positive effects on the total root length, total root surface area, and the number of root tips of V. angularis. Compared to the CK group, the G-1 group had significantly increased leaf water potential (37.89%), leaf conductivity (2.25%), and SOD, POD, and CAT activities (47.67%, 35.22%, and 199.3%, respectively). The G-1 group also showed improved leaf net photosynthetic rate, chlorophyll content, and soluble sugar content (51.28%, 24.25%, and 38.35%, respectively), compared to the CK group. Additionally, 1.00mg/L graphene led to a 23.88% increase in the podding rate and a 17.04% increase in the yield of V. angularis plants. The rhizosphere soil of V. angularis treated with 1.00mg/L graphene had a 25.14% increase in hydrolyzable nitrogen content and a 66.67% increase in available phosphorus content. RNA-seq data indicated that 1.00mg/L graphene induced the expression of photosynthesis and nitrogen transmembrane transport genes, including ATP synthase subunit b, photosystem I reaction center subunit XI, photosystem I reaction center subunit IV A, ferredoxin, and psbP-like protein 1, as well as genes for photosynthesis antenna proteins, glutamine synthetase, glutamate dehydrogenase 1, cyanate hydratase, protein fluG-like, and NRT1/PTR family, suggesting that graphene promoted the growth and development of V. angularis by enhancing the photosynthesis and nitrogen metabolism processes in V. angularis plants. Our results indicated that a suitable concentration of graphene could significantly promote the growth of V. angularis plants in soil.

To investigate the role of sugar metabolism in desiccation-sensitive seeds, we performed a natural desiccation treatment on Phoebe chekiangensis seeds in a room and systematically analyzed the changes in seed germination, sugar compounds, malondialdehyde, and relative electrical conductivity during the seed desiccation. The results revealed that the initial moisture content of P. chekiangensis seed was very high (37.06%) and the seed was sensitive to desiccation, the germination percentage of the seed decreased to 5.33% when the seed was desiccated to 22.04% of moisture content, therefore, the seeds were considered recalcitrant. Based on the logistic model, we know that the moisture content of the seeds is 29.05% when the germination percentage drops to 50% and that it is desirable to keep the seed moisture content above 31.74% during ambient transportation. During seed desiccation, sucrose and trehalose contents exhibited increasing trends, and raffinose also increased during the late stage of desiccation, however, low levels of the non-reducing sugar accumulations may not prevent the loss of seed viability caused by desiccation. Glucose and fructose predominated among sugar compounds, and they showed a slight increase followed by a significant decrease. Their depletion may have contributed to the accumulation of sucrose and raffinose family oligosaccharides. Correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between the accumulation of sucrose, trehalose, and soluble sugars, and the reduction in seed viability. Sucrose showed a significant negative correlation with glucose and fructose. Trehalose also exhibited the same pattern of correlation. These results provided additional data and theoretical support for understanding the mechanism of sugar metabolism in seed desiccation sensitivity.

Equilibrium molecular dynamics (EMD) simulations have been performed to investigate the structural analysis and thermal conductivity (λ) of semiconducting (8,0) and metallic (12,0) zigzag single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) for varying ±γ(%) strains. For the first time, the present outcomes provide valuable insights into the relationship between the structural properties of zigzag SWCNTs and corresponding thermal behavior, which is essential for the development of high-performance nanocomposites. The radial distribution function (RDF) has been employed to assess the buckling and deformation understandings of the (8,0) and (12,0) SWCNTs for a wide range of temperature T(K) and varying ±γ(%) strains. The visualization of SWCNTs shows that the earlier buckling and deformation processes are observed for semiconducting SWCNTs as compared to metallic SWCNTs for high T(K) and it also evident through an abrupt increase in RDF peaks. The RDF and visualization analyses demonstrate that the (8,0) SWCNTs can more tunable under compressive than tensile strains, however, the (12,0) zigzag SWCNTs indicate an opposite trend and may tolerate more tensile than compressive strains. Investigations show that the tunable domain of ±γ(%) strains decreases from (-10%≤ γ ≤+19%) to (-5%≤ γ ≤+10%) for (8,0) SWCNTs and the buckling process shifts to lower ±γ(%) for (12,0) SWCNTs with increasing T(K). For intermediate-high T(K), the λ(T) of (12,0) SWCNTs is high but the (8,0) SWCNTs show certainly high λ(T) for low T(K). The present λ(T, ±γ) data are in reasonable agreement with parts of previous NEMD, GK-HNEMD data and experimental investigations with simulation results generally under predicting the λ(T, ±γ) by the ∼1% to ∼20%, regardless of the ±γ(%) strains, depending on T(K). Our simulation data significantly expand the strain range to -10% ≤ γ ≤ +19% for both zigzag SWCNTs, depending on temperature T(K). This extension of the range aims to establish a tunable regime and delve into the intrinsic characteristics of zigzag SWCNTs, building upon previous work.

PurposeTo compare the ability of diffusion parameters obtained by stretched-exponential and kurtosis models of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) to distinguish between patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) and healthy controls (HCs) in renal assessment.Materials and methodsA total of 44 participants (22 patients and 22 HCs) underwent renal MRI with an 11 b-value DWI sequence and a 3 b-value diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) sequence from June 2021 to April 2022. Binary logistic regression was used to construct regression models combining different diffusion parameters. Receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and comparisons were used to evaluate the ability of single diffusion parameters and combined diffusion models to distinguish between the two groups.ResultsA total of six diffusion parameters (including the cortical anomalous exponent term [α_Cortex], medullary fractional anisotropy [FA_Medulla], cortical FA [FA_Cortex], cortical axial diffusivity [Da_Cortex], medullary mean diffusivity [MD_Medulla] and medullary radial diffusivity [Dr_Medulla]) were included, and 10 regression models were studied. The area under the curve (AUC) of Dr_Medulla was 0.855, comparable to that of FA_Cortex and FA_Medulla and significantly higher than that of α_Cortex, Da_Cortex and MD_Medulla. The AUC of the Model_all parameters was 0.967, comparable to that of Model_FA (0.946) and Model_DKI (0.966) and significantly higher than that of the other models. The sensitivity and specificity of Model_all parameters were 87.2% and 95%, respectively.ConclusionThe Model_all parameters, Model_FA and Model_DKI were valid for differentiating between PA patients and HCs with similar differentiation efficacy and were superior to single diffusion parameters and other models.

Temporal expectation refers to the capacity to allocate resources at a particular point in time, enabling us to enhance our behavior performance. Empirical evidence indicates that, among younger adults, temporal expectation can be driven by rhythm (i.e., regular sequences of stimuli). However, whether there are age-related changes in rhythm-based temporal expectation has not been clearly established. Furthermore, whether tempo can influence the relationship between rhythm-based temporal expectation and aging remains unexplored. To address these questions, both younger and older participants took part in a rhythm-based temporal expectation task, engaging three distinct tempos: 600 ms (fast), 1800 ms (moderate), or 3000 ms (slow). The results demonstrated that temporal expectation effects (i.e., participants exhibited significantly faster responses during the regular trials compared to the irregular trials) were observed in both the younger and older participants under the moderate tempo condition. However, in the fast and slow tempo conditions, the temporal expectation effects were solely observed in the younger participants. These findings revealed that rhythm-based temporal expectations can be preserved during aging but within a specific tempo range. When the tempo falls within the range of either being too fast or too slow, it can manifest age-related declines in temporal expectations driven by rhythms.
