The UK has to arrive at a mutually acceptable constitutional agreement with the members of the European Union to increase its role in European affairs as it can neither sever its ties with the EU nor have partial cooperation. A constitutional engagement with the Union will be helpful if the agreement has elements such as a clear definition of the authority of the countries and the union, which is balanced by the principle of subsidiary, a strong national parliament with a powerful Union counterpart and greater transparency in the working of the European Parliament.
