The article discusses issues related to the environmental policy of the Canadian government. It cites several instances which suggest that the government considers even major new sources of greenhouse gases (GHG) to have insignificant environmental effects. For instance, the government has adopted no legislation to control GHG emissions because the controversial Alberta oil sands, which are Canada's largest and fastest-growing source of GHG emissions, are the driver of the nation's growth. Another issue discussed in this article concerns the Canadian Environmental Protection Act environmental impact assessment (EIA).
