The bumper is an automotive part act as a protective shield in the vehicle. It bears and absorbs the load when the vehicle incurs a collision. If the bumper has got more weight it leads to more fuel consumption and decreases the fuel efficiency of the vehicle. This problem can be overcome by reducing the weight of the bumper without compromising its performance. The main objective in bumper design and fabrication is that it should possess less weight and at the same time, it should withstand the higher load during a collision. In this paper, the properties and performance of the developed bumper composite are compared with the existing bumper. The bumper performance is optimized using a finite element analysis with ANSYS R15.0. From the cost analysis, it has been observed that the weight and cost of the Basalt composite bumper is 49% and 56% lesser than the steel bumper. The Impact strength and Factor of Safety values of the Basalt fabric composite bumper is 47.6% and 32.5% higher than the steel bumper. The total deformation of the Steel bumper is 15.7 mm, and the Basalt composite bumper is 32 mm, which shows 51% higher deformation than steel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The yarn selection is an essential step in the manufacturing of brocade. The objective of the research paper is the selection of the best yarn for manufacturing handloom Varanasi brocade. In this research paper, the nine natural fibers (Cotton, Kapok, Hemp, Jute, Palm, Pineapple, Bamboo, Sisal, and Flax) and their properties (Cost, Availability, Comfort, Durability, Texture, color, luster, Ease of use and social values) are considered. This study was conducted in two stages. In first stage, a draft questionnaire was created by considering previous research papers and informal consultation with Analytical hierarchy process (AHP) professionals. It was then tested with seven respondents. In the second stage, the questionnaire was circulated to the 135 consumers. An analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach was utilized to determine the suitable material through a customer survey to select the best yarn for the furnishing and upholstery industry in Varanasi. The results of the study showed that the customers have given more weight to the availability, comfort and color criteria of handloom products, whereas the weight of the cost was less compared to all other criteria. From the overall weight matrix, the pine apple yarn was ranked as the best yarn for the manufacturing of the Banaras brocade, whereas flax was ranked last. The study was only focused on the selection of natural yarns for Varanasi brocade, and the data were collected only from the handloom customers who prefer offline shopping. It does not consider online customers. Therefore, future research should include the other types of yarns and online customers for the research study. The input of the customers will be helpful for the Varanasi handloom product manufacturers to understand customers' requirements, and it will help to improve sales performance. In this research, the effect of air plasma treatment on moisture management properties of cotton and polyester fibers blended in 0:100, 50:50, 100:0 ratios in four different structures: single jersey, cross-tuck, cross-miss and twill at two different loop lengths 0.29 cm and 0.32 cm is analyzed. It is clearly shown that the knit fabric made of 100% polyester has providing good moisture management properties. The moisture management properties mainly depend on the loop length and fabric structure of the fabric. The fabric made with 100% polyester of cross-miss knit fabric with a loop length of 0.32 cm has good moisture management property. A specific knitting structure was developed using bamboo, polypropylene, hollow polyester, and polyester staple fiber yarns on the face and reverse sides of the fabric to study the moisture management characteristics of tri-layer knitted fabrics. The techniques in which each type of material regulates moisture affects how warm or cool it feels. The results indicated that the bamboo (outer), hollow polyester (inner), and hollow polyester (middle) fabrics had a higher ability to regulate moisture, providing a high level of comfort, and are suitable for summer, sporty, and sportswear. The results suggest that the hollow polyester yarn used in the inner and middle layers of the tri-layer knitted fabric exhibit a greater level of the comfort property because of their wide wetting radius, high absorption rates, extended wetting times, and short drying times and quick sweat diffusion.
