The article offers information on maintaining energy plant water sample panels. Many new plants are stated to start off by establishing maintenance schedules for sample panels and training operators in their use and maintenance procedures. The schedules are found to get abandoned in commercial operation because keeping air-quality analyzers, instrumentation and control systems on-line is given priority. Two case studies are presented to illustrate the importance of sample panels to water chemistry analysis. In both the studies the monitoring problems resulted in a forced outage or steam cycle damage. It is stated that the wet tests conducted by many plants do little to protect equipment. It is suggested to ensure analyzer accuracy and standardization for accuracy and reliability.
