In this paper, we first define the multiple Appell polynomials and find several equivalent conditions for this class of polynomials. Let $A$ be an asymptotic basis for $mathbb {N}_0$ of some order. By an {em essentiality} of $A$ one means a subset $P$ such that $A backslash P$ is no longer an asymptotic basis of any order and such that $P$ is minimal among all subsets of $A$ with this property. A finite essentiality of $A$ is called an {em essential subset}. In a recent paper, Deschamps and Farhi asked the following two questions: (i) Does every asymptotic basis of $mathbb {N}_0$ possess some essentiality? (ii) Is the number of essential subsets of size at most $k$ of an asymptotic basis of order $h$ (a number they showed to be always finite) bounded by a function of $k$ and $h$ only? We answer the latter question in the affirmative and answer the former in the negative by means of an explicit construction, for every integer $h geq 2$, of an asymptotic basis of order $h$ with no essentialities. In this paper, the Chow groups of projective hypersurfaces are studied. We will prove that if the degree of the hypersurface is sufficiently high, its Chow group is ``small'' in the sense that its formal tangent space vanishes. Let $p$ be a fixed odd prime. In this paper we prove an exponent conjecture of Bousfield, namely that the $p$-exponent of the spectrum $\Phi SU(n)$ is $(n-1) + \nu_p((n-1)!)$ for $n \geq 2$. It follows from this result that the $p$-exponent of $\Omega^{q} SU(n) \langle i \rangle$ is at least $(n-1) + \nu_p((n-1)!)$ for $n \geq 2$ and $i,q \geq 0$, where $SU(n) \langle i \rangle$ denotes the $i$-connected cover of $SU(n)$. In the present paper it will be proved that the Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity of the standard graded $K$-algebra $A=K[\{f_ix_j\}_{\substack{i=1,\ldots,mj=1,\ldots,n}}, g_1,\ldots, g_r]$ is at most $(d-2)(n-1)$. By virtue of this result, it follows that the regularity of a simplicial semigroup ring $K[C]$ with isolated singularity is at most $e(K[C]) - \operatorname{codim}(K[C])$, where $e(K[C])$ is the multiplicity of $K[C]$ and $\operatorname{codim}(K[C])$ is the codimension of $K[C]$. In this paper, we solve a conjecture of S. Bell (1992) affirmatively. Actually, we prove that every non-degenerate $n$-connected planar domain $\Omega$, where $n>1$ is representable as $\Omega= \{|f|<1\}$ with a suitable rational function $f$ of degree $n$.
