The purpose of this paper is to investigate the environmental effects of the telecommunications usage, residential and business, by assessment of the changes in the energy consumption in Bulgaria during the period 1994-2018. Bulgaria is one of the EU countries with the largest decline in energy consumption during the last decades. Many factors influence the amount and efficiency of energy consumption. The present research is based on the assumption that telecommunications cause energy consumption. The change and the relationship between the indicators of the public telecommunication sector and those of the energy sector in Bulgaria are analyzed with the help of time-series analysis. With the help of the statistical analysis of time-series, the change and the relationship between the indicators of the public telecommunication sector and those of the Energy sector in Bulgaria for the period under review are analyzed. Some relationships between indicators have been explored through the capabilities of VAR-models. For the purpose of the analysis data from different information sources, including World Bank, ITU, National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria and Eurostat, are used. The specific focus of the research is the growth of e-commerce as a result of telecommunication development, a factor for stimulating economic growth and thus energy consumption.
