Heritage historic buildings are often wasteful in terms of energy efficiency. Changing their energy supply, load and consumption is particularly challenging given that heritage needs protection and interventions on the building architecture are limited. From the point of view of the renewable energy sources integration in historical buildings, the aesthetic aspects are very important and due to this reason, modern systems can be ruled out. However, the energy efficiency challenges imposed by today's society can be solved by integrating modern renewable energy conversion technologies into existing facilities. In this regard, the present paper shows the hypothetical case study in which is analyzed the possibility of photovoltaic panels (PV) integration in the roof plan of a historic building from Cluj-Napoca. The research aims to find out the efficiency of modern technology in the local setting by integrating PV into an existing historical structure. To evaluate improvements in energy efficiency of the heritage historic building through integration of photovoltaic panels into the power supply the following performance indicators were analyzed: power, annual average energy, CO2 emissions, Total Net Present Cost and Levelized cost of energy. Energy efficiency of heritage historic building is improved by saving the traditional energy consumption and improvements in environmental performance have been noted by decreasing of CO2 emissions.
