Transport systems are an important component of intra-plant logistics. Their role is the provision of transport services in order to ensure the efficient functioning of the individual processes. The quality and reliability of the transport system greatly affects the efficiency of intra-plant logistics. The extractive and mining industries are particularly sensitive to these indicators and parameters of transport technologies. The use of transport technology in this industry is dependent on a number of factors. These include natural conditions, type of material transported, transport speed, and so on. The belt conveyors and their modifications have been the most used transport systems in the extractive and mining industries for decades. Thanks to modifications and a new design solution, belt conveyance is able to fulfill even the most difficult transport tasks. Recently, there is a clear trend in increasingly use of continuous transport systems in the mining industry that combine the advantages of belt conveyors and other transport systems that include, for example, pipe conveyors or conveyors of type RopeCon. The RopeCon system can rightfully be included in progressive transport systems with enormous potential. This system brings a symbiosis between the conveyor belt and the ropeway. One of the most significant elements of every machine operation is its control system. Proper design, construction and operation of the control system is the key factor for correct and efficient operation of a machine. This particularly applies to mining machinery operating in hazardous environments and exposed to loads which cannot be fully predicted. Such machines must be therefore characterized by high reliability, durability, readiness and safety. In order to fulfil all these requirements, a machine must be equipped with durable and stable control systems. Rapid development of electronics caused that electronic components are now commonly applied in such systems. The article focuses on the analysis of electro control systems used in powered roof supports designed to work in underground mines. These roof supports must ensure the safety of the staff during exploitation of minerals. The operation of the machines is based on a hydraulic power stored in a pressurized liquid controlled by electric elements and devices. The aim of application of the control system in a roof support is to increase its efficiency and efficacy, and to improve safety of work. The speed and reliability of controls (electric) affect the efficient use of a hydraulic system (executive component of the system). Model applications of electrohydraulic control systems and the test results presented in the article confirm that they are much more effective when compared to the traditional systems. The article describes a method of preparing the coal face and mining of a hard coal seam 8.6 meters thick. It explains the main reasons that led to mining the concerned seam in two slices about 4 meters thick. At the same time, it contains an overview of the coal face equipment and technology that was used when the coalface was cleared out after its extraction. Global character of environmental challenges induced with vague resource consumption scales, waste volumes, intensive man-made impact on natural environment, as well as development of deposits under complicated mining-geological conditions of the Arctic and vulnerability of the Arctic zone environment requires revising the resource exploitation strategy. Specialists of the Mining Institute KSC RAS have substantiated the Ecological strategy of mining development which involves decrease of man-made impacts on natural environment at increase of efficient production and processing of mineral raw material. In accordance with the Ecological strategy there has been developed a methodology of complex solution of tasks on mineral deposits mining on the basis of simulating objects and processes of mining-benefication production and geoecotechnologies. Experience of implementation of the Ecological strategy on the Kola mining enterprises has confirmed validity and efficiency of solutions proposed with extension of raw material base, getting of additional volumes and kinds of production and improvement of ecological indicators during operations. Actuality of accepting ecological imperative of development of mining industry is determined by a fact that the significant part of prospective mineral deposits is located at the Arctic zone.
