Central Northern Bulgaria falls within the range of the North-Bulgarian artesian basin, characterized by a wide spread of storey aquifer system. The main aim of the present study is to characterize the features of the chemical composition of groundwater in the three most important pressure aquifers in the studied area (Senonian, Upper-Jurassic โ Lower-Cretaceous and Triassic), which are formed in carbonate rocks with Mesozoic age. In the background of the regional hydrogeological conditions, spatial change of the hydrochemical characteristics of groundwater was registrated both in plan and in depth. The changes in the water types, total dissolved solids, pH, gas content in the water, the main macro and micro components, are studied and their regularities are clarified. Areas with anomalous hydrochemical parameters are located. On the basis of hydrochemical indicators a regional characteristic of the genetic types of deep groundwaters is made. The properties of water are assessed with regard to the possibilities for use for different purposes, including as a source of extraction of some chemical elements, as well as their impact on the environment in cases of artesian flow on the surface.
