The article reports on two studies examining the phenomenon of choking in games. It has been found in the studies that choking by the home team is encouraged by the pressure, the chance for self-redefinition and the audience. In both the studies students were asked to complete a questionnaire that assessed their normal level of self-consciousness. In both these studies, data related to basketball and baseball championships in the U.S. is used.
