Abstract

The article presents a study of the quitline service in Korea for smoking cessation and relapse prevention. A smoking cessation program was introduced. Results showed that 89.0% of the 3631 participants had set a quit day and had elapsed in 12 months were male and 37.5% aged 30-39 years. Multiple logistic regression analyses showed that male gender, low Fagerstrom Test for Nicotine Dependence (FTND) scores, and older age were the factors of smoking cessation at one-year follow-up.

Abstract

The author contends that the age of menarche is overlooked as a key indicator in research and practice in low-income countries. She says that the lack of monitoring of the socio-epidemiology of menarche represents a missed opportunity for shaping public health interventions targeting girls transitioning into young womanhood. She discusses the public health implications of early menarche as well as the public health consequences of late menarche.
