The American Society for Quality and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement developed the community health improvement model aimed at reducing traffic accidents in 10 cities. The success of the model is attributed to four elements, including demonstrating improvements and giving local groups the responsibility for continuous improvement. Applications of the model to other community health issues are described.
