The author discusses techniques of filmmaking that limit the potential of motion pictures. He suggests that the format utilized to write screenplays homogenizes ideas and writing styles and leads to the domination of dialogue over visual storytelling. He comments that motion picture directors such as Wong Kar-Wai and Mike Leigh use improvisation in their motion pictures. He suggests filmmakers should not be constrained by set design and the blocking of scenes. He comments that photographic coverage of scenes can add to the bureaucratization of motion pictures.
