Since no study has yet been able to assess the Quebec portrait of teachers' evaluation practices in the context of clinical education in nursing. Considering the importance of clinical teaching and evaluation in the education of nursing students, this study is justified. This article presents the results of a study that aimed to describe and understand the experience of teachers in the ongoing assessment of nursing students' learning during clinical education. It aimed to describe the evaluation practices of teachers during the learning of students in clinical education and achievement context, and to identify factors influencing these practices. In the context of descriptive qualitative research, the data collection was mainly based on the description of practices reported and collected during interviews realized with 10 nursing teachers of a college of the region of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (SLSJ, Quebec, Canada). The results allowed, for instance, to identify and to describe the evaluation practices led in this specific context of the study : the direct and indirect observation ; the questions asked to the sudent and to the group of sutdents and individual and group feed-back. They also allowed to enumerate and to categorize factors which can influence these practices, that is facilitates factors, barriers and faiths.

Introduction : in collaboration with family physician, primary care nurses can play a key role for persons with chronic diseases (CD). However, these activities vary from one practice to another. Context : the absence of evidence hinders our understanding of the issues related to the improvement of nursing practices in primary care organizations. Objective : to describe the primary care nurse’s activities for persons with CD and elements influencing those activities. Design : systematic literature review. Method : MEDLINE, CINHAL and SCOPUS electronic databases were reviewed. Key words : « primary health care », « primary nursing » and « chronic disease ». Results : eighteen studies were included in the review. Nurses activities can be clustered in four domain of activities : 1) Global assessment of the person with CD, 2) Care management, 3) Health Promotion and 4) Nurse-Physician Collaboration. Elements influencing nurses’ activities can be related to the setting of care, to nurse or to the person with CD. Discussion : nurses’ activities in primary care are understudied. Activities such as case management and interprofessional collaboration are lacking. Conclusion : descriptive studies are needed to describe in-depth nurses’ activities in primary settings for persons with CD.

Introduction: Contemporary nursing practice requires constant updating of knowledge, especially in regards to research results found in academic or scientific papers., Context: As part of the university curriculum in nursing, students must develop their skills in relation to the understanding and evaluation of research evidence., Objectives: The objective of this study was to explore the appreciation and effects of a new teaching approach, the use of a journal club within a nursing research course, with undergraduate students in nursing sciences., Method: As part of a qualitative exploratory descriptive design, a questionnaire with open-ended questions about their appreciation and perception of the effects of the journal club was administered to the participating students (n = 41) at the end of the course., Results: Participation in the journal club appears to have provided an introduction to the scientific area of nursing, to have improved several skills related to the evaluation of scientific articles and has increased motivation to adopt evidence-based practice., Conclusion: The use of a journal club within an undergraduate research course in nursing was a relevant teaching method that aroused great interest in the undergraduate students in nursing.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a smoking cessation intervention provided after discharge from a specialized cardiac hospital., Design: A randomized pilot study (N = 40); after discharge, the experimental group (EG) received 6 phone calls from a nurse specialized in tobacco cessation counselling., Results: Patients in the EG showed improved scores on two aspects of illness representations (perceive their illness as chronic and reported less negative emotional representations). No significant difference in smoking cessation was observed at 6 months (p = 0.72)., Conclusion: The non-significant difference may be explained in part by the smoking characteristics within this sample exemplifying the more nicotine dependent "hard core" smokers who persist in their smoking habits despite the serious health consequences incurred by continued smoking. This population of smokers may require a more intensive, specialized intervention to achieve smoking cessation.

Social support refers to the presence of individuals providing emotional or material resources. Its four components are: integration, structure, function, and quality. This article presents empirical and theoretical data, as well as criticism of studies which examine the relationship between social support, global health and cardiovascular health, also evaluating direct or moderating contributions to the adoption and maintenance of health behaviours in persons with cardiovascular disease. Concrete implications for nursing practice are reviewed.

This article presents the results of the first part of a survey aiming at assessing the chances for adoption and use of the safety blanket, a new device preventing the falls from the beds. In this part, the resarchers wanted to know how the caretakers reacted to the use of this material. Thirty four people with five beneficiaries among them, nine family members, fifteen contributors and five managers, interacting in the context of a care unit for elderly people of a hospital centre were interviewed. The data of the interviews were analysed according to a six step procedure: listening to the interviews and reading the descriptions; deriving the significant statements, analysing and reformulating the meaning of the statements; regrouping the signification units under more global themes; gathering the analysis results and describing exhaustively the studied phenomenon; validating the exhaustive description. As a whole, the reactions recorded were positive and indicate that the safety blanket has big chances to be adopted by the healthcare units.
