Autonomous driving systems rely on a comprehensive understanding of the surrounding environment, and trees, as important roadside features, have a significant impact on vehicle positioning and safety analysis. Existing methods use mobile LiDAR systems (MLS) to collect environmental information and automatically generate tree inventories based on dense point clouds, providing accurate geometric parameters. However, the use of MLS systems requires expensive survey-grade laser scanners and high-precision GNSS/IMU systems, which limits their large-scale deployment and results in poor real-time performance. Although LiDAR-based simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) techniques have been widely applied in the navigation field, to the best of my knowledge, there has been no research conducted on simultaneous real-time localization and roadside tree inventory. This paper proposes an innovative approach that uses LiDAR technology to achieve vehicle positioning and a roadside tree inventory. Firstly, a front-end odometry based on an error-state Kalman filter (ESKF) and a back-end optimization framework based on factor graphs are employed. The updated poses from the back-end are used for establishing point-to-plane residual constraints for the front-end in the local map. Secondly, a two-stage approach is adopted to minimize global mapping errors, refining accumulated mapping errors through GNSS-assisted registration to enhance system robustness. Additionally, a method is proposed for creating a tree inventory that extracts line features from real-time LiDAR point cloud data and projects them onto a global map, providing an initial estimation of possible tree locations for further tree detection. This method uses shared feature extraction results and data pre-processing results from SLAM to reduce the computational load of simultaneous vehicle positioning and roadside tree inventory. Compared to methods that directly search for trees in the global map, this approach benefits from fast perception of the initial tree position, meeting real-time requirements. Finally, our system is extensively evaluated on real datasets covering various road scenarios, including urban and suburban areas. The evaluation metrics are divided into two parts: the positioning accuracy of the vehicle during operation and the detection accuracy of trees. The snow temperature above the ice sheet is one of the basic characteristic parameters of the ice sheet, which plays an important role in the study of the global climate. Because infrared and microwaves with different frequencies have different penetration depths in snow, it is possible to retrieve the snow temperature profiles by combining microwave and infrared brightness temperatures. This paper proposes a conjoint inversion algorithm to retrieve snow temperature profiles by combining multi-frequency microwave brightness temperature (BT) with infrared BT, in which different weight functions of microwave BT at different frequencies are adopted, and the atmosphere influence has also been corrected. The snow temperature profile data are retrieved based on AMSR2 microwave BT data and MODIS infrared BT data in 2017 and 2018, which are evaluated by comparing with the measured snow temperature at Dome-C station. The results confirm that the inverted snow temperature profiles are consistent with the field observation data from the Dome-C station. Multi-frequency microwave brightness temperature can be used to invert the snow temperature profiles; however, the inverted snow surface temperature is more accurate by combining the infrared BT with the microwave BT in the conjoint inversion algorithm. Vision-based modal analysis has gained popularity in the field of structural health monitoring due to significant advancements in optics and computer science. For long term monitoring, the structures are subjected to ambient excitation, so that their vibration amplitudes are quite small. Hence, although natural frequencies can be usually identified from the extracted displacements by vision-based techniques, it is still difficult to evaluate the corresponding mode shapes accurately due to limited resolution. In this study, a novel signal reconstruction algorithm is proposed to reconstruct the dynamic response extracted by the vision-based approach to identify the mode shapes of structures with low amplitude vibration due to environmental excitation. The experimental test of a cantilever beam shows that even if the vibration amplitude is as low as 0.01 mm, the first two mode shapes can be accurately identified if the proposed signal reconstruction algorithm is implemented, while without the proposed algorithm, they can only be identified when the vibration amplitude is at least 0.06 mm. In order to improve the spatial resolution of a one-dimensional aperture synthesis (1-D AS) radiometer without increasing the size of the antenna array, the method of visibility extension (VE) is proposed in this article. In the VE method, prior information about the visibility distribution of various scenes is learnt by a residual convolutional neural network (ResCNN). Specifically, the relationship between the distribution of low-frequency visibility and that of high-frequency visibility is learnt. Then, the ResCNN is used to estimate the high-frequency visibility samples from the low-frequency visibility samples obtained by the AS system. Furthermore, the low- and high-frequency visibility samples are combined to reconstruct the brightness temperature image of the scene, to enhance the spatial resolution of AS. Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellites can effectively monitor terrestrial water storage (TWS) changes in large-scale areas. However, due to the coarse resolution of GRACE products, there is still a large number of deficiencies that need to be considered when investigating TWS changes in small-scale areas. Hence, it is necessary to downscale the GRACE products with a coarse resolution. First, in order to solve this problem, the present study employs modeling windows of different sizes (Window Size, WS) combined with multiple machine learning algorithms to develop a new machine learning spatial downscaling method (MLSDM) in the spatial dimension. Second, The MLSDM is used to improve the spatial resolution of GRACE observations from 0.5° to 0.25°, which is applied to Guantao County. The present study has verified the downscaling accuracy of the model developed through the combination of WS3, WS5, WS7, and WS9 and jointed with Random Forest (RF), Extra Tree Regressor (ETR), Adaptive Boosting Regressor (ABR), and Gradient Boosting Regressor (GBR) algorithms. The analysis shows that the accuracy of each combined model is improved after adding the residuals to the high-resolution downscaled results. In each modeling window, the accuracy of RF is better than that of ETR, ABR, and GBR. Additionally, compared to the changes in the TWS time series that are derived by the model before and after downscaling, the results indicate that the downscaling accuracy of WS5 is slightly more superior compared to that of WS3, WS7, and WS9. Third, the spatial resolution of the GRACE data was increased from 0.5° to 0.05° by integrating the WS5 and RF algorithm. The results are as follows: (1) The TWS (GWS) changes before and after downscaling are consistent, decreasing at −20.86 mm/yr and −21.79 mm/yr (−14.53 mm/yr and −15.46 mm/yr), respectively, and the Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE) and correlation coefficient (CC) values of both are above 0.99 (0.98). (2) The CC between the 80% deep groundwater well data and the downscaled GWS changes are above 0.70. Overall, the MLSDM can not only effectively improve the spatial resolution of GRACE products but also can preserve the spatial distribution of the original signal, which can provide a reference scheme for research focusing on the downscaling of GRACE products. Data from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite mission can be used to monitor changes in terrestrial water storage (TWS). In this study, we exploit the TWS observations from a new temporal gravity field model, Tongji-Grace2018, which was developed using an optimized short-arc approach at Tongji University. We analyzed the changes in the TWS and groundwater storage (GWS) in each of the nine major river basins of the Chinese mainland from April 2002 to August 2016, using Tongji-Grace2018, the Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) hydrological model, in situ observations, and additional auxiliary data (such as precipitation and temperature). Our results indicate that the TWS of the Songliao, Yangtze, Pearl, and Southeastern River Basins are all increasing, with the most drastic TWS growth occurring in the Southeastern River Basin. The TWS of the Yellow, Haihe, Huaihe, and Southwestern River Basins are all decreasing, with the most drastic TWS loss occurring in the Haihe River Basin. The Continental River Basin TWS has remained largely unchanged over time. With the exception of the Songliao and Pearl River Basins, the GWS results produced by the Tongji-Grace2018 model are consistent with the in situ observations of these basins. The correlation coefficients for the Tongji-Grace2018 model results and the in situ observations for the Yellow, Huaihe, Yangtze, Southwestern, and Continental River Basins are higher than 0.710. Overall, the GWS results for the Songliao, Yellow, Haihe, Huaihe, Southwestern, and Continental River Basins all exhibit a downward trend, with the most severe groundwater loss occurring in the Haihe and Huaihe River Basins. However, the Yangtze and Southeastern River Basins both have upward-trending modeled and measured GWS values. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of the Tongji-Grace2018 model for the reliable estimation of TWS and GWS changes on the Chinese mainland, and may contribute to the management of available water resources. Enhancing the spatial resolution of real-aperture microwave radiometers is an essential research topic. The accuracy of the numerical values of brightness temperatures (BTs) observed using microwave radiometers directly affects the precision of the retrieval of marine environmental parameters. Hence, ensuring the accuracy of the enhanced brightness temperature values is of paramount importance when striving to enhance spatial resolution. A spectrum extension (SE) method is proposed in this paper, which restores the suppressed high-frequency components in the scene BT spectrum through frequency domain transformation and calculations, specifically, dividing the observed BT spectrum by the conjugate of the antenna pattern spectrum and applying a Taylor approximation to suppress error amplification, thereby extending the observed BT spectrum. By using a convolutional neural network to correct errors in the calculated spectrum and then reconstructing the BT through inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT), the enhanced BTs are obtained. Since the extended BT spectrum contains more high-frequency components, namely, the spectrum is closer to that of the original scene BT, the reconstructed BT not only achieves an enhancement in spatial resolution, but also an improvement in the accuracy of BT values. Both the results from simulated data and satellite-measured data processing illustrate that the SE method is able to enhance the spatial resolution of real-aperture microwave radiometers and concurrently improve the accuracy of BT values. Infrared small target detection technology is widely used in infrared search and tracking, infrared precision guidance, low and slow small aircraft detection, and other projects. Its detection ability is very important in terms of finding unknown targets as early as possible, warning in time, and allowing for enough response time for the security system. This paper combines the target characteristics of low-resolution infrared small target images and studies the infrared small target detection method under a complex background based on the attention mechanism. The main contents of this paper are as follows: (1) by sorting through and expanding the existing datasets, we construct a single-frame low-resolution infrared small target (SLR-IRST) dataset and evaluate the existing datasets on three aspects—target number, target category, and target size; (2) to improve the pixel-level metrics of low-resolution infrared small target detection, we propose a small target detection network with two stages and a corresponding method. Regarding the SLR-IRST dataset, the proposed method is superior to the existing methods in terms of pixel-level metrics and target-level metrics and has certain advantages in model processing speed. Densely distributed Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations can invert the terrestrial water storage anomaly (TWSA) with high precision. However, the uneven distribution of GNSS stations greatly limits the application of TWSA inversion. The purpose of this study was to compensate for the spatial coverage of GNSS stations by simulating the vertical deformation in unobserved grids. First, a new deep learning weight loading inversion model (DWLIM) was constructed by combining the long short-term memory (LSTM) algorithm, inverse distance weight, and the crustal load model. DWLIM is beneficial for improving the inversion accuracy of TWSA based on the GNSS vertical displacement. Second, the DWLIM-based and traditional GNSS-derived TWSA methods were utilized to derive TWSA over mainland China. Furthermore, the TWSA results were compared with the TWSA solutions of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) model. The results indicate that the maximum Pearson's correlation coefficient (PCC), Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) coefficient, and root mean square error (RMSE) equal 0.81, 0.61, and 2.18 cm, respectively. The accuracy of DWLIM was higher than that of the traditional GNSS inversion method according to PCC, NSE, and RMSE, which were increased by 67.11, 128.15, and 22.75%. The inversion strategy of DWLIM can effectively improve the accuracy of TWSA inversion in regions with unevenly distributed GNSS stations. Third, this study investigated the variation characteristics of TWSA based on DWLIM in 10 river basins over mainland China. The analysis shows that the TWSA amplitudes of Songhua and Liaohe River basins are significantly higher than those of the other basins. Moreover, TWSA sequences in each river basin contain annual seasonal signals, and the wave peaks of TWSA estimates emerge between June and July. Overall, DWLIM provides a useful measure to derive TWSA in regions where GNSS stations are uneven or sparse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
