The complexity of scene images makes the research on remote-sensing image scene classification challenging. With the wide application of deep learning in recent years, many remote-sensing scene classification methods using a convolutional neural network (CNN) have emerged. Current CNN usually output global information by integrating the depth features extricated from the convolutional layer through the fully connected layer; however, the global information extracted is not comprehensive. This paper proposes an improved remote-sensing image scene classification method based on a global self-attention module to address this problem. The global information is derived from the depth characteristics extracted by the CNN. In order to better express the semantic information of the remote-sensing image, the multi-head self-attention module is introduced for global information augmentation. Meanwhile, the local perception unit is utilized to improve the self-attention module's representation capabilities for local objects. The proposed method's effectiveness is validated through comparative experiments with various training ratios and different scales on public datasets (UC Merced, AID, and NWPU-NESISC45). Illegal landfills are uncontrolled disposals of waste that cause severe environmental and health risk. Discovering them as early as possible is of prominent importance for preventing hazards, such as fire pollution and leakage. Before the digital era, the only means to detect illegal waste dumps was the on site inspection of potentially suspicious sites, a procedure extremely costly and impossible to scale to a vast territory. With the advent of Earth observation technology, scanning the territory via aerial images has become possible. However, manual image interpretation remains a complex and time-consuming task that requires expert skill. Photo interpretation can be partially automated by embedding the expert knowledge within a data driven classifier trained with samples provided by human annotators. In this paper, the detection of illegal landfills is formulated as a multi-scale scene classification problem. Scene elements positioning and spatial relations constitute hints of the presence of illegal waste dumps. A dataset of ≈3000 images (20 cm resolution per pixel) was created with the help of expert photo interpreters. A combination of ResNet50 and Feature Pyramid Network (FPN) elements accounting for different object scales achieves 88% precision with an 87% of recall in a test area. The semantic segmentation of remote sensing images requires distinguishing local regions of different classes and exploiting a uniform global representation of the same-class instances. Such requirements make it necessary for the segmentation methods to extract discriminative local features between different classes and to explore representative features for all instances of a given class. While common deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) can effectively focus on local features, they are limited by their receptive field to obtain consistent global information. In this paper, we propose a memory-augmented transformer (MAT) to effectively model both the local and global information. The feature extraction pipeline of the MAT is split into a memory-based global relationship guidance module and a local feature extraction module. The local feature extraction module mainly consists of a transformer, which is used to extract features from the input images. The global relationship guidance module maintains a memory bank for the consistent encoding of the global information. Global guidance is performed by memory interaction. Bidirectional information flow between the global and local branches is conducted by a memory-query module, as well as a memory-update module, respectively. Object detection in remote sensing images plays an important role in both military and civilian remote sensing applications. Objects in remote sensing images are different from those in natural images. They have the characteristics of scale diversity, arbitrary directivity, and dense arrangement, which causes difficulties in object detection. For objects with a large aspect ratio and that are oblique and densely arranged, using an oriented bounding box can help to avoid deleting some correct detection bounding boxes by mistake. The classic rotational region convolutional neural network (R2CNN) has advantages for text detection. However, R2CNN has poor performance in the detection of slender objects with arbitrary directivity in remote sensing images, and its fault tolerance rate is low. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes an improved R2CNN based on a double detection head structure and a three-point regression method, namely, TPR-R2CNN. The proposed network modifies the original R2CNN network structure by applying a double fully connected (2-fc) detection head and classification fusion. One detection head is for classification and horizontal bounding box regression, the other is for classification and oriented bounding box regression. The three-point regression method (TPR) is proposed for oriented bounding box regression, which determines the positions of the oriented bounding box by regressing the coordinates of the center point and the first two vertices. The proposed network was validated on the DOTA-v1.5 and HRSC2016 datasets, and it achieved a mean average precision (mAP) of 3.90% and 15.27%, respectively, from feature pyramid network (FPN) baselines with a ResNet-50 backbone. The polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) can be used to obtain soil moisture by inverting scattering models at high resolution. The convolutional neural network (CNN) has been recently introduced to estimate soil roughness for PolSAR data, which need to be driven by a large amount of data. In this paper, a dual-channel CNN based on polarimetric models is proposed for soil moisture inversion, and it aims to further expand the applicable range of roughness in the X-Bragg model by integration with the integral equation model (IEM). Meanwhile, it fully utilizes the spatial information of PolSAR images to relax the number of required training samples when real data on the surface are difficult to obtain. Besides, we designed a framework based on this network. Coarse-grained inversion and fine-grained inversion of soil moisture are carried out through the qualitative classification network and the quantitative regression network, respectively. Experiments on simulated and airborne E-SAR data show that the proposed network can accurately fit the nonlinear relationship between polarization parameters and soil moisture, so as to improve the inversion accuracy with a small number of samples. In our experiments, the average inversion accuracy reached 95.39%, and the root mean square error (RMSE) of the regression network was 0.98%. The small baseline subset of spaceborne interferometric synthetic aperture radar (SBAS-InSAR) technology has become a classical method for monitoring slow deformations through time series analysis with an accuracy in the centimeter or even millimeter range. Thereby, the selection of high-quality interferograms calculated is one of the key operations for the method, since it mainly determines the credibility of the deformation information. Especially in the era of big data, the demand for an automatic and effective selection method of high-quality interferograms in SBAS-InSAR technology is growing. In this paper, a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) for automatichigh-quality interferogram selection is proposed that provides more efficient image feature extraction capabilities and a better classification performance. Therefore, the ResNet50 (a kind of DCNN) is used to identify and delete interferograms that are severely contaminated. According to simulation experiments and calculated Sentinel-1A data of Shenzhen, China, the proposed approach can significantly separate interferograms affected by turbulences in the atmosphere and by the decorrelation phase. The remarkable performance of the DCNN method is validated by the analysis of the standard deviation of interferograms and the local deformation information compared with the traditional selection method. It is concluded that DCNN algorithms can automatically select high quality interferogram for the SBAS-InSAR method and thus have a significant impact on the precision of surface deformation monitoring. Deep learning methods have achieved considerable progress in remote sensing image building extraction. Most building extraction methods are based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN). Recently, vision transformers have provided a better perspective for modeling long-range context in images, but usually suffer from high computational complexity and memory usage. In this paper, we explored the potential of using transformers for efficient building extraction. We design an efficient dual-pathway transformer structure that learns the long-term dependency of tokens in both their spatial and channel dimensions and achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on benchmark building extraction datasets. Since single buildings in remote sensing images usually only occupy a very small part of the image pixels, we represent buildings as a set of "sparse" feature vectors in their feature space by introducing a new module called "sparse token sampler". With such a design, the computational complexity in transformers can be greatly reduced over an order of magnitude. We refer to our method as Sparse Token Transformers (STT). Experiments conducted on the Wuhan University Aerial Building Dataset (WHU) and the Inria Aerial Image Labeling Dataset (INRIA) suggest the effectiveness and efficiency of our method. A novel framework for 3D reconstruction of buildings based on a single off-nadir satellite image is proposed in this paper. Compared with the traditional methods of reconstruction using multiple images in remote sensing, recovering 3D information that utilizes the single image can reduce the demands of reconstruction tasks from the perspective of input data. It solves the problem that multiple images suitable for traditional reconstruction methods cannot be acquired in some regions, where remote sensing resources are scarce. However, it is difficult to reconstruct a 3D model containing a complete shape and accurate scale from a single image. The geometric constraints are not sufficient as the view-angle, size of buildings, and spatial resolution of images are different among remote sensing images. To solve this problem, the reconstruction framework proposed consists of two convolutional neural networks: Scale-Occupancy-Network (Scale-ONet) and model scale optimization network (Optim-Net). Through reconstruction using the single off-nadir satellite image, Scale-Onet can generate water-tight mesh models with the exact shape and rough scale of buildings. Meanwhile, the Optim-Net can reduce the error of scale for these mesh models. Finally, the complete reconstructed scene is recovered by Model-Image matching. Profiting from well-designed networks, our framework has good robustness for different input images, with different view-angle, size of buildings, and spatial resolution. In recent years, object detection has shown excellent results on a large number of annotated data, but when there is a discrepancy between the annotated data and the real test data, the performance of the trained object detection model is often degraded when it is directly transferred to the real test dataset. Compared with natural images, remote sensing images have great differences in appearance and quality. Traditional methods need to re-label all image data before interpretation, which will consume a lot of manpower and time. Therefore, it is of practical significance to study the Cross-Domain Adaptation Object Detection (CDAOD) of remote sensing images. To solve the above problems, our paper proposes a Rotation-Invariant and Relation-Aware (RIRA) CDAOD network. We trained the network at the image-level and the prototype-level based on a relation aware graph to align the feature distribution and added the rotation-invariant regularizer to deal with the rotation diversity. The Faster R-CNN network was adopted as the backbone framework of the network. We conducted experiments on two typical remote sensing building detection datasets, and set three domain adaptation scenarios: WHU 2012 → WHU 2016, Inria (Chicago) → Inria (Austin), and WHU 2012 → Inria (Austin). The results show that our method can effectively improve the detection effect in the target domain, and outperform competing methods by obtaining optimal results in all three scenarios. Self-supervised method has proven to be a suitable approach for despeckling on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. However, most self-supervised despeckling methods are trained by noisy-noisy image pairs, which are constructed by using natural images with simulated speckle noise, time-series real-world SAR images or generative adversarial network, limiting the practicability of these methods in real-world SAR images. Therefore, in this paper, a novel self-supervised despeckling algorithm with an enhanced U-Net is proposed for real-world SAR images. Firstly, unlike previous self-supervised despeckling works, the noisy-noisy image pairs are generated from real-word SAR images through a novel generation training pairs module, which makes it possible to train deep convolutional neural networks using real-world SAR images. Secondly, an enhanced U-Net is designed to improve the feature extraction and fusion capabilities of the network. Thirdly, a self-supervised training loss function with a regularization loss is proposed to address the difference of target pixel values between neighbors on the original SAR images. Finally, visual and quantitative experiments on simulated and real-world SAR images show that the proposed algorithm notably removes speckle noise with better preserving features, which exceed several state-of-the-art despeckling methods. Some recent articles have revealed that synthetic aperture radar automatic target recognition (SAR-ATR) models based on deep learning are vulnerable to the attacks of adversarial examples and cause security problems. The adversarial attack can make a deep convolutional neural network (CNN)-based SAR-ATR system output the intended wrong label predictions by adding small adversarial perturbations to the SAR images. The existing optimization-based adversarial attack methods generate adversarial examples by minimizing the mean-squared reconstruction error, causing smooth target edge and blurry weak scattering centers in SAR images. In this paper, we build a UNet-generative adversarial network (GAN) to refine the generation of the SAR-ATR models' adversarial examples. The UNet learns the separable features of the targets and generates the adversarial examples of SAR images. The GAN makes the generated adversarial examples approximate to real SAR images (with sharp target edge and explicit weak scattering centers) and improves the generation efficiency. We carry out abundant experiments using the proposed adversarial attack algorithm to fool the SAR-ATR models based on several advanced CNNs, which are trained on the measured SAR images of the ground vehicle targets. Satellite image classification is widely used in various real-time applications, such as the military, geospatial surveys, surveillance and environmental monitoring. Therefore, the effective classification of satellite images is required to improve classification accuracy. In this paper, the combination of Hierarchical Framework and Ensemble Learning (HFEL) and optimal feature selection is proposed for the precise identification of satellite images. The HFEL uses three different types of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), namely AlexNet, LeNet-5 and a residual network (ResNet), to extract the appropriate features from images of the hierarchical framework. Additionally, the optimal features from the feature set are extracted using the Correlation Coefficient-Based Gravitational Search Algorithm (CCGSA). Further, the Multi Support Vector Machine (MSVM) is used to classify the satellite images by extracted features from the fully connected layers of the CNN and selected features of the CCGSA. Hence, the combination of HFEL and CCGSA is used to obtain the precise classification over different datasets such as the SAT-4, SAT-6 and Eurosat datasets. The performance of the proposed HFEL–CCGSA is analyzed in terms of accuracy, precision and recall. The experimental results show that the HFEL–CCGSA method provides effective classification over the satellite images. In recent years, deep learning-based models have produced encouraging results for hyperspectral image (HSI) classification. Specifically, Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM) has shown good performance for learning valuable features and modeling long-term dependencies in spectral data. However, it is less effective for learning spatial features, which is an integral part of hyperspectral images. Alternatively, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) can learn spatial features, but they possess limitations in handling long-term dependencies due to the local feature extraction in these networks. Considering these factors, this paper proposes an end-to-end Spectral-Spatial 3D ConvLSTM-CNN based Residual Network (SSCRN), which combines 3D ConvLSTM and 3D CNN for handling both spectral and spatial information, respectively. The contribution of the proposed network is twofold. Firstly, it addresses the long-term dependencies of spectral dimension using 3D ConvLSTM to capture the information related to various ground materials effectively. Secondly, it learns the discriminative spatial features using 3D CNN by employing the concept of the residual blocks to accelerate the training process and alleviate the overfitting. In addition, SSCRN uses batch normalization and dropout to regularize the network for smooth learning. The proposed framework is evaluated on three benchmark datasets widely used by the research community. The results confirm that SSCRN outperforms state-of-the-art methods with an overall accuracy of 99.17%, 99.67%, and 99.31% over Indian Pines, Salinas, and Pavia University datasets, respectively. Semantic and instance segmentation methods are commonly used to build extraction from high-resolution images. The semantic segmentation method involves assigning a class label to each pixel in the image, thus ignoring the geometry of the building rooftop, which results in irregular shapes of the rooftop edges. As for instance segmentation, there is a strong assumption within this method that there exists only one outline polygon along the rooftop boundary. In this paper, we present a novel method to sequentially delineate exterior and interior contours of rooftops with holes from VHR aerial images, where most of the buildings have holes, by integrating semantic segmentation and polygon delineation. Specifically, semantic segmentation from the Mask R-CNN is used as a prior for hole detection. Then, the holes are used as objects for generating the internal contours of the rooftop. The external and internal contours of the rooftop are inferred separately using a convolutional recurrent neural network. Experimental results showed that the proposed method can effectively delineate the rooftops with both one and multiple polygons and outperform state-of-the-art methods in terms of the visual results and six statistical indicators, including IoU, OA, F1, BoundF, RE and Hd. Agricultural greenhouses (AGs) are an important component of modern facility agriculture, and accurately mapping and dynamically monitoring their distribution are necessary for agricultural scientific management and planning. Semantic segmentation can be adopted for AG extraction from remote sensing images. However, the feature maps obtained by traditional deep convolutional neural network (DCNN)-based segmentation algorithms blur spatial details and insufficient attention is usually paid to contextual representation. Meanwhile, the maintenance of the original morphological characteristics, especially the boundaries, is still a challenge for precise identification of AGs. To alleviate these problems, this paper proposes a novel network called high-resolution boundary refined network (HBRNet). In this method, we design a new backbone with multiple paths based on HRNetV2 aiming to preserve high spatial resolution and improve feature extraction capability, in which the Pyramid Cross Channel Attention (PCCA) module is embedded to residual blocks to strengthen the interaction of multiscale information. Moreover, the Spatial Enhancement (SE) module is employed to integrate the contextual information of different scales. In addition, we introduce the Spatial Gradient Variation (SGV) unit in the Boundary Refined (BR) module to couple the segmentation task and boundary learning task, so that they can share latent high-level semantics and interact with each other, and combine this with the joint loss to refine the boundary. In our study, GaoFen-2 remote sensing images in Shouguang City, Shandong Province, China are selected to make the AG dataset. The experimental results show that HBRNet demonstrates a significant improvement in segmentation performance up to an IoU score of 94.89%, implying that this approach has advantages and potential for precise identification of AGs. The collapse of buildings caused by the earthquake seriously threatened human lives and safety. So, the quick detection of collapsed buildings from post-earthquake images is essential for disaster relief and disaster damage assessment. Compared with the traditional building extraction methods, the methods based on convolutional neural networks perform better because it can automatically extract high-dimensional abstract features from images. However, there are still many problems with deep learning in the extraction of collapsed buildings. For example, due to the complex scenes after the earthquake, the collapsed buildings are easily confused with the background, so it is difficult to fully use the multiple features extracted by collapsed buildings, which leads to time consumption and low accuracy of collapsed buildings extraction when training the model. In addition, model training is prone to overfitting, which reduces the performance of model migration. This paper proposes to use the improved classic version of the you only look once model (YOLOv4) to detect collapsed buildings from the post-earthquake aerial images. Specifically, the k-means algorithm is used to optimally select the number and size of anchors from the image. We replace the Resblock in CSPDarkNet53 in YOLOv4 with the ResNext block to improve the backbone's ability and the performance of classification. Furthermore, to replace the loss function of YOLOv4 with the Focal-EOIU loss function. The result shows that compared with the original YOLOv4 model, our proposed method can extract collapsed buildings more accurately. The AP (average precision) increased from 88.23% to 93.76%. The detection speed reached 32.7 f/s. Our method not only improves the accuracy but also enhances the detection speed of the collapsed buildings. Remote sensing scene classification remains challenging due to the complexity and variety of scenes. With the development of attention-based methods, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have achieved competitive performance in remote sensing scene classification tasks. As an important method of the attention-based model, the Transformer has achieved great success in the field of natural language processing. Recently, the Transformer has been used for computer vision tasks. However, most existing methods divide the original image into multiple patches and encode the patches as the input of the Transformer, which limits the model's ability to learn the overall features of the image. In this paper, we propose a new remote sensing scene classification method, Remote Sensing Transformer (TRS), a powerful "pure CNNs → Convolution + Transformer → pure Transformers" structure. First, we integrate self-attention into ResNet in a novel way, using our proposed Multi-Head Self-Attention layer instead of 3 × 3 spatial revolutions in the bottleneck. Then we connect multiple pure Transformer encoders to further improve the representation learning performance completely depending on attention. Finally, we use a linear classifier for classification. We train our model on four public remote sensing scene datasets: UC-Merced, AID, NWPU-RESISC45, and OPTIMAL-31. Due to the large quantity of noise and complex spatial background of the remote sensing images, how to improve the accuracy of semantic segmentation has become a hot topic. Lake water body extraction is crucial for disaster detection, resource utilization, and carbon cycle, etc. The the area of lakes on the Tibetan Plateau has been constantly changing due to the movement of the Earth's crust. Most of the convolutional neural networks used for remote sensing images are based on single-layer features for pixel classification while ignoring the correlation of such features in different layers. In this paper, the two-branch encoder is presented, which is a multiscale structure that combines the features of ResNet-34 with a feature pyramid network. Secondly, adaptive weights are distributed to global information using the hybrid-scale attention block. Finally, PixelShuffle is used to recover the feature maps' resolution, and the densely connected block is used to refine the boundary of the lake water body. Likewise, we transfer the best weights which are saved on the Google dataset to the Landsat-8 dataset to ensure that our proposed method is robust. We validate the superiority of Hybrid-scale Attention Network (HA-Net) on two given datasets, which were created by us using Google and Landsat-8 remote sensing images. (1) On the Google dataset, HA-Net achieves the best performance of all five evaluation metrics with a Mean Intersection over Union (MIoU) of 97.38%, which improves by 1.04% compared with DeepLab V3+, and reduces the training time by about 100 s per epoch. Moreover, the overall accuracy (OA), Recall, True Water Rate (TWR), and False Water Rate (FWR) of HA-Net are 98.88%, 98.03%, 98.24%, and 1.76% respectively. (2) On the Landsat-8 dataset, HA-Net achieves the best overall accuracy and the True Water Rate (TWR) improvement of 2.93% compared to Pre_PSPNet, which proves to be more robust than other advanced models. The interest in change detection in the field of remote sensing has increased in the last few years. Searching for changes in satellite images has many useful applications, ranging from land cover and land use analysis to anomaly detection. In particular, urban change detection provides an efficient tool to study urban spread and growth through several years of observation. At the same time, change detection is often a computationally challenging and time-consuming task; therefore, a standard approach with manual detection of the elements of interest by experts in the domain of Earth Observation needs to be replaced by innovative methods that can guarantee optimal results with unquestionable value and within reasonable time. In this paper, we present two different approaches to change detection (semantic segmentation and classification) that both exploit convolutional neural networks to address these particular needs, which can be further refined and used in post-processing workflows for a large variety of applications. Super-resolution (SR) technology has emerged as an effective tool for image analysis and interpretation. However, single hyperspectral (HS) image SR remains challenging, due to the high spectral dimensionality and lack of available high-resolution information of auxiliary sources. To fully exploit the spectral and spatial characteristics, in this paper, a novel single HS image SR approach is proposed based on a spatial correlation-regularized unmixing convolutional neural network (CNN). The proposed approach takes advantage of a CNN to explore the collaborative spatial and spectral information of an HS image and infer the high-resolution abundance maps, thereby reconstructing the anticipated high-resolution HS image via the linear spectral mixture model. Moreover, a dual-branch architecture network and spatial spread transform function are employed to characterize the spatial correlation between the high- and low-resolution HS images, aiming at promoting the fidelity of the super-resolved image. Experiments on three public remote sensing HS images demonstrate the feasibility and superiority in terms of spectral fidelity, compared with some state-of-the-art HS image super-resolution methods. Usually radar target recognition methods only use a single type of high-resolution radar signal, e.g., high-resolution range profile (HRRP) or synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. In fact, in the SAR imaging procedure, we can simultaneously obtain both the HRRP data and the corresponding SAR image, as the information contained within them is not exactly the same. Although the information contained in the HRRP data and the SAR image are not exactly the same, both are important for radar target recognition. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel end-to-end two stream fusion network to make full use of the different characteristics obtained from modeling HRRP data and SAR images, respectively, for SAR target recognition. The proposed fusion network contains two separated streams in the feature extraction stage, one of which takes advantage of a variational auto-encoder (VAE) network to acquire the latent probabilistic distribution characteristic from the HRRP data, and the other uses a lightweight convolutional neural network, LightNet, to extract the 2D visual structure characteristics based on SAR images. Following the feature extraction stage, a fusion module is utilized to integrate the latent probabilistic distribution characteristic and the structure characteristic for the reflecting target information more comprehensively and sufficiently. The main contribution of the proposed method consists of two parts: (1) different characteristics from the HRRP data and the SAR image can be used effectively for SAR target recognition, and (2) an attention weight vector is used in the fusion module to adaptively integrate the different characteristics from the two sub-networks. Publicly available optical remote sensing images from platforms such as Sentinel-2 satellites contribute much to the Earth observation and research tasks. However, information loss caused by clouds largely decreases the availability of usable optical images so reconstructing the missing information is important. Existing reconstruction methods can hardly reflect the real-time information because they mainly make use of multitemporal optical images as reference. To capture the real-time information in the cloud removal process, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images can serve as the reference images due to the cloud penetrability of SAR imaging. Nevertheless, large datasets are necessary because existing SAR-based cloud removal methods depend on network training. In this paper, we integrate the merits of multitemporal optical images and SAR images to the cloud removal process, the results of which can reflect the ground information change, in a simple convolution neural network. Although the proposed method is based on deep neural network, it can directly operate on the target image without training datasets. We conduct several simulation and real data experiments of cloud removal in Sentinel-2 images with multitemporal Sentinel-1 SAR images and Sentinel-2 optical images. Experiment results show that the proposed method outperforms those state-of-the-art multitemporal-based methods and overcomes the constraint of datasets of those SAR-based methods. Although generative adversarial networks (GANs) are successfully applied to diverse fields, training GANs on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data is a challenging task due to speckle noise. On the one hand, in a learning perspective of human perception, it is natural to learn a task by using information from multiple sources. However, in the previous GAN works on SAR image generation, information on target classes has only been used. Due to the backscattering characteristics of SAR signals, the structures of SAR images are strongly dependent on their pose angles. Nevertheless, the pose angle information has not been incorporated into GAN models for SAR images. In this paper, we propose a novel GAN-based multi-task learning (MTL) method for SAR target image generation, called PeaceGAN, that has two additional structures, a pose estimator and an auxiliary classifier, at the side of its discriminator in order to effectively combine the pose and class information via MTL. Extensive experiments showed that the proposed MTL framework can help the PeaceGAN's generator effectively learn the distributions of SAR images so that it can better generate the SAR target images more faithfully at intended pose angles for desired target classes in comparison with the recent state-of-the-art methods. The detection of building edges from very high resolution (VHR) remote sensing imagery is essential to various geo-related applications, including surveying and mapping, urban management, etc. Recently, the rapid development of deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) has achieved remarkable progress in edge detection; however, there has always been the problem of edge thickness due to the large receptive field of DCNNs. In this paper, we proposed a multi-scale erosion network (ME-Net) for building edge detection to crisp the building edge through two innovative approaches: (1) embedding an erosion module (EM) in the network to crisp the edge and (2) adding the Dice coefficient and local cross entropy of edge neighbors into the loss function to increase its sensitivity to the receptive field. In addition, a new metric, Ene, to measure the crispness of the predicted building edge was proposed. The experiment results show that ME-Net not only detects the clearest and crispest building edges, but also achieves the best OA of 98.75%, 95.00% and 95.51% on three building edge datasets, and exceeds other edge detection networks 3.17% and 0.44% at least in strict F1-score and Ene. High-quality three-dimensional (3-D) radar imaging is one of the challenging problems in radar imaging enhancement. The existing sparsity regularizations are limited to the heavy computational burden and time-consuming iteration operation. Compared with the conventional sparsity regularizations, the super-resolution (SR) imaging methods based on convolution neural network (CNN) can promote imaging time and achieve more accuracy. However, they are confined to 2-D space and model training under small dataset is not competently considered. To solve these problem, a fast and high-quality 3-D terahertz radar imaging method based on lightweight super-resolution CNN (SR-CNN) is proposed in this paper. First, an original 3-D radar echo model is presented and the expected SR model is derived by the given imaging geometry. Second, the SR imaging method based on lightweight SR-CNN is proposed to improve the image quality and speed up the imaging time. Furthermore, the resolution characteristics among spectrum estimation, sparsity regularization and SR-CNN are analyzed by the point spread function (PSF). Finally, electromagnetic computation simulations are carried out to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of image quality. Nowadays, a large number of remote sensing instruments are providing a massive amount of data within the frame of different Earth Observation missions. These instruments are characterized by the wide variety of data they can collect, as well as the impressive volume of data and the speed at which it is acquired. In this sense, hyperspectral imaging data has certain properties that make it difficult to process, such as its large spectral dimension coupled with problematic data variability. To overcome these challenges, convolutional neural networks have been proposed as classification models because of their ability to extract relevant spectral–spatial features and learn hidden patterns, along their great architectural flexibility. Their high performance relies on the convolution kernels to exploit the spatial relationships. Thus, filter design is crucial for the correct performance of models. Nevertheless, hyperspectral data may contain objects with different shapes and orientations, preventing filters from "seeing everything possible" during the decision making. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a novel adaptable convolution model based on deforming kernels combined with deforming convolution layers to fit their effective receptive field to the input data. The proposed adaptable convolutional network (named DKDCNet) has been evaluated over two well-known hyperspectral scenes, demonstrating that it is able to achieve better results than traditional strategies with similar computational cost for HSI classification. Semantic augmentation of 3D point clouds is a challenging problem with numerous real-world applications. While deep learning has revolutionised image segmentation and classification, its impact on point cloud is an active research field. In this paper, we propose an instance segmentation and augmentation of 3D point clouds using deep learning architectures. We show the potential of an indirect approach using 2D images and a Mask R-CNN (Region-Based Convolution Neural Network). Our method consists of four core steps. We first project the point cloud onto panoramic 2D images using three types of projections: spherical, cylindrical, and cubic. Next, we homogenise the resulting images to correct the artefacts and the empty pixels to be comparable to images available in common training libraries. These images are then used as input to the Mask R-CNN neural network, designed for 2D instance segmentation. Finally, the obtained predictions are reprojected to the point cloud to obtain the segmentation results. We link the results to a context-aware neural network to augment the semantics. Several tests were performed on different datasets to test the adequacy of the method and its potential for generalisation. Oil spills represent one of the major threats to marine ecosystems. Satellite synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) sensors have been widely used to identify oil spills due to their ability to provide high resolution images during day and night under all weather conditions. In recent years, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have led to many important improvements in performing this task. However, most of the previous solutions to this problem have focused on obtaining the best performance under the assumption that there are no constraints on the amount of hardware resources being used. For this reason, the amounts of hardware resources such as memory and power consumption required by previous solutions make them unsuitable for remote embedded systems such as nano and micro-satellites, which usually have very limited hardware capability and very strict limits on power consumption. In this paper, we present a CNN architecture for semantically segmenting SAR images into multiple classes. The proposed CNN is specifically designed to run on remote embedded systems, which have very limited hardware capability and strict limits on power consumption. Even if the performance in terms of results accuracy does not represent a step forward compared with previous solutions, the presented CNN has the important advantage of being able to run on remote embedded systems with limited hardware resources while achieving good performance. The presented CNN is compatible with dedicated hardware accelerators available on the market due to its low memory footprint and small size. It also provides many additional very significant advantages, such as having shorter inference times, requiring shorter training times, and avoiding transmission of irrelevant data. Our goal is to allow embedded low power remote devices such as satellite systems for remote sensing to be able to directly run CNNs on board, so that the amount of data that needs to be transmitted to ground and processed on ground can be substantially reduced, which will be greatly beneficial in significantly reducing the amount of time needed for identification of oil spills from SAR images. In order to overcome the disadvantages of convolution neural network (CNN) in the current hyperspectral image (HSI) classification/segmentation methods, such as the inability to recognize the rotation of spatial objects, the difficulty to capture the fine spatial features and the problem that principal component analysis (PCA) ignores some important information when it retains few components, in this paper, an HSI segmentation model based on extended multi-morphological attribute profile (EMAP) features and cubic capsule network (EMAP–Cubic-Caps) was proposed. EMAP features can effectively extract various attributes profile features of entities in HSI, and the cubic capsule neural network can effectively capture complex spatial features with more details. Firstly, EMAP algorithm is introduced to extract the morphological attribute profile features of the principal components extracted by PCA, and the EMAP feature map is used as the input of the network. Then, the spectral and spatial low-layer information of the HSI is extracted by a cubic convolution network, and the high-layer information of HSI is extracted by the capsule module, which consists of an initial capsule layer and a digital capsule layer. A crater detection and recognition algorithm is the key to pose estimation based on craters. Due to the changing viewing angle and varying height, the crater is imaged as an ellipse and the scale changes in the landing camera. In this paper, a robust and efficient crater detection and recognition algorithm for fusing the information of sequence images for pose estimation is designed, which can be used in both flying in orbit around and landing phases. Our method consists of two stages: stage 1 for crater detection and stage 2 for crater recognition. In stage 1, a single-stage network with dense anchor points (dense point crater detection network, DPCDN) is conducive to dealing with multi-scale craters, especially small and dense crater scenes. The fast feature-extraction layer (FEL) of the network improves detection speed and reduces network parameters without losing accuracy. We comprehensively evaluate this method and present state-of-art detection performance on a Mars crater dataset. In stage 2, taking the encoded features and intersection over union (IOU) of craters as weights, we solve the weighted bipartite graph matching problem, which is matching craters in the image with the previously identified craters and the pre-established craters database. The former is called "frame-frame match", or FFM, and the latter is called "frame-database match", or FDM. Combining the FFM with FDM, the recognition speed is enabled to achieve real-time on the CPU (25 FPS) and the average recognition precision is 98.5%. Finally, the recognition result is used to estimate the pose using the perspective-n-point (PnP) algorithm and results show that the root mean square error (RMSE) of trajectories is less than 10 m and the angle error is less than 1.5 degrees. The registration of multi-temporal remote sensing images with abundant information and complex changes is an important preprocessing step for subsequent applications. This paper presents a novel two-stage deep learning registration method based on sub-image matching. Unlike the conventional registration framework, the proposed network learns the mapping between matched sub-images and the geometric transformation parameters directly. In the first stage, the matching of sub-images (MSI), sub-images cropped from the images are matched through the corresponding heatmaps, which are made of the predicted similarity of each sub-image pairs. The second stage, the estimation of transformation parameters (ETP), a network with weight structure and position embedding estimates the global transformation parameters from the matched pairs. The network can deal with an uncertain number of matched sub-image inputs and reduce the impact of outliers. Furthermore, the sample sharing training strategy and the augmentation based on the bounding rectangle are introduced. We evaluated our method by comparing the conventional and deep learning methods qualitatively and quantitatively on Google Earth, ISPRS, and WHU Building Datasets. The experiments showed that our method obtained the probability of correct keypoints (PCK) of over 99% at α   = 0.05 (α : the normalized distance threshold) and achieved a maximum increase of 16.8% at α   = 0.01, compared with the latest method. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are often disturbed by speckle noise, making SAR image interpretation tasks more difficult. Therefore, speckle suppression becomes a pre-processing step. In recent years, approaches based on convolutional neural network (CNN) achieved good results in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images despeckling. However, these CNN-based SAR images despeckling approaches usually require large computational resources, especially in the case of huge training data. In this paper, we proposed a SAR image despeckling method using a CNN platform with a new learnable spatial activation function, which required significantly fewer network parameters without incurring any degradation in performance over the state-of-the-art despeckling methods. Specifically, we redefined the rectified linear units (ReLU) function by adding a convolutional kernel to obtain the weight map of each pixel, making the activation function learnable. Meanwhile, we designed several experiments to demonstrate the advantages of our method. In total, 400 images from Google Earth comprising various scenes were selected as a training set in addition to 10 Google Earth images including athletic field, buildings, beach, and bridges as a test set, which achieved good despeckling effects in both visual and index results (peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR): 26.37 ± 2.68 and structural similarity index (SSIM): 0.83 ± 0.07 for different speckle noise levels). Extensive experiments were performed on synthetic and real SAR images to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, which proved to have a superior despeckling effect and higher ENL magnitudes than the existing methods. Our method was applied to coniferous forest, broad-leaved forest, and conifer broad-leaved mixed forest and proved to have a good despeckling effect (PSNR: 23.84 ± 1.09 and SSIM: 0.79 ± 0.02). In response to the deficiency of the detection capability of traditional remote sensing means (scatterometer, microwave radiometer, etc.) for high wind speed above 25 m/s, this paper proposes a GNSS-R technique combined with a machine learning method to invert high wind speed at sea surface. The L1-level satellite-based data from the Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS), together with the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) data, constitute the original sample set, which is processed and trained with Support Vector Regression (SVR), the combination of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and SVR (PCA-SVR), and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) methods, respectively, to finally construct a sea surface high wind speed inversion model. The three models for high wind speed inversion are certified by the test data collected during Typhoon Bavi in 2020. The results show that all three machine learning models can be used for high wind speed inversion on sea surface, among which the CNN method has the highest inversion accuracy with a mean absolute error of 2.71 m/s and a root mean square error of 3.80 m/s. Automatic cloud detection in remote sensing images is of great significance. Deep-learning-based methods can achieve cloud detection with high accuracy; however, network training heavily relies on a large number of labels. Manually labelling pixel-wise level cloud and non-cloud annotations for many remote sensing images is laborious and requires expert-level knowledge. Different types of satellite images cannot share a set of training data, due to the difference in spectral range and spatial resolution between them. Hence, labelled samples in each upcoming satellite image are required to train a new deep-learning-based model. In order to overcome such a limitation, a novel cloud detection algorithm based on a spectral library and convolutional neural network (CD-SLCNN) was proposed in this paper. In this method, the residual learning and one-dimensional CNN (Res-1D-CNN) was used to accurately capture the spectral information of the pixels based on the prior spectral library, effectively preventing errors due to the uncertainties in thin clouds, broken clouds, and clear-sky pixels during remote sensing interpretation. Benefiting from data simulation, the method is suitable for the cloud detection of different types of multispectral data. A total of 62 Landsat-8 Operational Land Imagers (OLI), 25 Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometers (MODIS), and 20 Sentinel-2 satellite images acquired at different times and over different types of underlying surfaces, such as a high vegetation coverage, urban area, bare soil, water, and mountains, were used for cloud detection validation and quantitative analysis, and the cloud detection results were compared with the results from the function of the mask, MODIS cloud mask, support vector machine, and random forest. The comparison revealed that the CD-SLCNN method achieved the best performance, with a higher overall accuracy (95.6%, 95.36%, 94.27%) and mean intersection over union (77.82%, 77.94%, 77.23%) on the Landsat-8 OLI, MODIS, and Sentinel-2 data, respectively. The CD-SLCNN algorithm produced consistent results with a more accurate cloud contour on thick, thin, and broken clouds over a diverse underlying surface, and had a stable performance regarding bright surfaces, such as buildings, ice, and snow. At present, reliable and precise ship detection in high-resolution optical remote sensing images affected by wave clutter, thin clouds, and islands under complex sea conditions is still challenging. At the same time, object detection algorithms in satellite remote sensing images are challenged by color, aspect ratio, complex background, and angle variability. Even the results obtained based on the latest convolutional neural network (CNN) method are not satisfactory. In order to obtain more accurate ship detection results, this paper proposes a remote sensing image ship object detection method based on a brainlike visual attention mechanism. We refer to the robust expression mode of the human brain, design a vector field filter with active rotation capability, and explicitly encode the direction information of the remote sensing object in the neural network. The progressive enhancement learning model guided by the visual attention mechanism is used to dynamically solve the problem, and the object can be discovered and detected through time–space information. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, a remote sensing ship object detection data set is established, and the proposed method is compared with other state-of-the-art methods on the established data set. Experiments show that the object detection accuracy of this method and the ability to capture image details have been improved. Compared with other models, the average intersection rate of the joint is 80.12%, which shows a clear advantage. Compared with multispectral sensors, hyperspectral sensors obtain images with high- spectral resolution at the cost of spatial resolution, which constrains the further and precise application of hyperspectral images. An intelligent idea to obtain high-resolution hyperspectral images is hyperspectral and multispectral image fusion. In recent years, many studies have found that deep learning-based fusion methods outperform the traditional fusion methods due to the strong non-linear fitting ability of convolution neural network. However, the function of deep learning-based methods heavily depends on the size and quality of training dataset, constraining the application of deep learning under the situation where training dataset is not available or of low quality. In this paper, we introduce a novel fusion method, which operates in a self-supervised manner, to the task of hyperspectral and multispectral image fusion without training datasets. Our method proposes two constraints constructed by low-resolution hyperspectral images and fake high-resolution hyperspectral images obtained from a simple diffusion method. Several simulation and real-data experiments are conducted with several popular remote sensing hyperspectral data under the condition where training datasets are unavailable. Rice leaf blast, which is seriously affecting the yield and quality of rice around the world, is a fungal disease that easily develops under high temperature and humidity conditions. Therefore, the use of accurate and non-destructive diagnostic methods is important for rice production management. Hyperspectral imaging technology is a type of crop disease identification method with great potential. However, a large amount of redundant information mixed in hyperspectral data makes it more difficult to establish an efficient disease classification model. At the same time, the difficulty and small scale of agricultural hyperspectral imaging data acquisition has resulted in unrepresentative features being acquired. Therefore, the focus of this study was to determine the best classification features and classification models for the five disease classes of leaf blast in order to improve the accuracy of grading the disease. First, the hyperspectral imaging data were pre-processed in order to extract rice leaf samples of five disease classes, and the number of samples was increased by data augmentation methods. Secondly, spectral feature wavelengths, vegetation indices and texture features were obtained based on the amplified sample data. Thirdly, seven one-dimensional deep convolutional neural networks (DCNN) models were constructed based on spectral feature wavelengths, vegetation indices, texture features and their fusion features. Finally, the model in this paper was compared and analyzed with the Inception V3, ZF-Net, TextCNN and bidirectional gated recurrent unit (BiGRU); support vector machine (SVM); and extreme learning machine (ELM) models in order to determine the best classification features and classification models for different disease classes of leaf blast. The results showed that the classification model constructed using fused features was significantly better than the model constructed with a single feature in terms of accuracy in grading the degree of leaf blast disease. The best performance was achieved with the combination of the successive projections algorithm (SPA) selected feature wavelengths and texture features (TFs). The modeling results also show that the DCNN model provides better classification capability for disease classification than the Inception V3, ZF-Net, TextCNN, BiGRU, SVM and ELM classification models. The SPA + TFs-DCNN achieved the best classification accuracy with an overall accuracy (OA) and Kappa of 98.58% and 98.22%, respectively. In terms of the classification of the specific different disease classes, the F1-scores for diseases of classes 0, 1 and 2 were all 100%, while the F1-scores for diseases of classes 4 and 5 were 96.48% and 96.68%, respectively. With the successful application of the convolutional neural network (CNN), significant progress has been made by CNN-based ship detection methods. However, they often face considerable difficulties when applied to a new domain where the imaging condition changes significantly. Although training with the two domains together can solve this problem to some extent, the large domain shift will lead to sub-optimal feature representations, and thus weaken the generalization ability on both domains. In this paper, a domain adaptive ship detection method is proposed to better detect ships between different domains. Specifically, the proposed method minimizes the domain discrepancies via both image-level adaption and instance-level adaption. In image-level adaption, we use multiple receptive field integration and channel domain attention to enhance the feature's resistance to scale and environmental changes, respectively. Moreover, a novel boundary regression module is proposed in instance-level adaption to correct the localization deviation of the ship proposals caused by the domain shift. Compared with conventional regression approaches, the proposed boundary regression module is able to make more accurate predictions via the effective extreme point features. The two adaption components are implemented by learning the corresponding domain classifiers respectively in an adversarial training way, thereby obtaining a robust model suitable for both of the two domains. The detection of building footprints and road networks has many useful applications including the monitoring of urban development, real-time navigation, etc. Taking into account that a great deal of human attention is required by these remote sensing tasks, a lot of effort has been made to automate them. However, the vast majority of the approaches rely on very high-resolution satellite imagery (<2.5 m) whose costs are not yet affordable for maintaining up-to-date maps. Working with the limited spatial resolution provided by high-resolution satellite imagery such as Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 (10 m) makes it hard to detect buildings and roads, since these labels may coexist within the same pixel. This paper focuses on this problem and presents a novel methodology capable of detecting building and roads with sub-pixel width by increasing the resolution of the output masks. This methodology consists of fusing Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data (at 10 m) together with OpenStreetMap to train deep learning models for building and road detection at 2.5 m. This becomes possible thanks to the usage of OpenStreetMap vector data, which can be rasterized to any desired resolution. Accordingly, a few simple yet effective modifications of the U-Net architecture are proposed to not only semantically segment the input image, but also to learn how to enhance the resolution of the output masks. As a result, generated mappings quadruplicate the input spatial resolution, closing the gap between satellite and aerial imagery for building and road detection. To properly evaluate the generalization capabilities of the proposed methodology, a data-set composed of 44 cities across the Spanish territory have been considered and divided into training and testing cities. Both quantitative and qualitative results show that high-resolution satellite imagery can be used for sub-pixel width building and road detection following the proper methodology. Polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image classification is one of the basic methods of PolSAR image interpretation. Deep learning algorithms, especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs), have been widely used in PolSAR image classification due to their powerful feature learning capabilities. However, a single neuron in the CNN cannot represent multiple polarimetric attributes of the land cover. The capsule network (CapsNet) uses vectors instead of the single neuron to characterize the polarimetric attributes, which improves the classification performance compared with traditional CNNs. In this paper, a hierarchical capsule network (HCapsNet) is proposed for the land cover classification of PolSAR images, which can consider the deep features obtained at different network levels in the classification. Moreover, we adopt three attributes to uniformly describe the scattering mechanisms of different land covers: phase, amplitude, and polarimetric decomposition parameters, which improves the generalization performance of HCapsNet. Furthermore, conditional random field (CRF) is added to the classification framework to eliminate small isolated regions of the intra-class. Comprehensive evaluations are performed on three PolSAR datasets acquired by different sensors, which demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods. In recent decades, lithological mapping techniques using hyperspectral remotely sensed imagery have developed rapidly. The processing chains using visible-near infrared (VNIR) and shortwave infrared (SWIR) hyperspectral data are proven to be available in practice. The thermal infrared (TIR) portion of the electromagnetic spectrum has considerable potential for mineral and lithology mapping. In particular, the abovementioned rocks at wavelengths of 8–12 μm were found to be discriminative, which can be seen as a characteristic to apply to lithology classification. Moreover, it was found that most of the lithology mapping and classification for hyperspectral thermal infrared data are still carried out by traditional spectral matching methods, which are not very reliable due to the complex diversity of geological lithology. In recent years, deep learning has made great achievements in hyperspectral imagery classification feature extraction. It usually captures abstract features through a multilayer network, especially convolutional neural networks (CNNs), which have received more attention due to their unique advantages. Hence, in this paper, lithology classification with CNNs was tested on thermal infrared hyperspectral data using a Thermal Airborne Spectrographic Imager (TASI) at three small sites in Liuyuan, Gansu Province, China. Three different CNN algorithms, including one-dimensional CNN (1-D CNN), two-dimensional CNN (2-D CNN) and three-dimensional CNN (3-D CNN), were implemented and compared to the six relevant state-of-the-art methods. At the three sites, the maximum overall accuracy (OA) based on CNNs was 94.70%, 96.47% and 98.56%, representing improvements of 22.58%, 25.93% and 16.88% over the worst OA. Meanwhile, the average accuracy of all classes (AA) and kappa coefficient (kappa) value were consistent with the OA, which confirmed that the focal method effectively improved accuracy and outperformed other methods. Remote sensing image scene classification (RSISC) has broad application prospects, but related challenges still exist and urgently need to be addressed. One of the most important challenges is how to learn a strong discriminative scene representation. Recently, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have shown great potential in RSISC due to their powerful feature learning ability; however, their performance may be restricted by the complexity of remote sensing images, such as spatial layout, varying scales, complex backgrounds, category diversity, etc. In this paper, we propose an attention-guided multilayer feature aggregation network (AGMFA-Net) that attempts to improve the scene classification performance by effectively aggregating features from different layers. Specifically, to reduce the discrepancies between different layers, we employed the channel–spatial attention on multiple high-level convolutional feature maps to capture more accurately semantic regions that correspond to the content of the given scene. Then, we utilized the learned semantic regions as guidance to aggregate the valuable information from multilayer convolutional features, so as to achieve stronger scene features for classification. A successful application of low-cost 3D cameras in combination with artificial intelligence (AI)-based 3D object detection algorithms to outdoor mobile mapping would offer great potential for numerous mapping, asset inventory, and change detection tasks in the context of smart cities. This paper presents a mobile mapping system mounted on an electric tricycle and a procedure for creating on-street parking statistics, which allow government agencies and policy makers to verify and adjust parking policies in different city districts. Our method combines georeferenced red-green-blue-depth (RGB-D) imagery from two low-cost 3D cameras with state-of-the-art 3D object detection algorithms for extracting and mapping parked vehicles. Our investigations demonstrate the suitability of the latest generation of low-cost 3D cameras for real-world outdoor applications with respect to supported ranges, depth measurement accuracy, and robustness under varying lighting conditions. In an evaluation of suitable algorithms for detecting vehicles in the noisy and often incomplete 3D point clouds from RGB-D cameras, the 3D object detection network PointRCNN, which extends region-based convolutional neural networks (R-CNNs) to 3D point clouds, clearly outperformed all other candidates. The results of a mapping mission with 313 parking spaces show that our method is capable of reliably detecting parked cars with a precision of 100% and a recall of 97%. High-resolution DEMs are important spatial data, and are used in a wide range of analyses and applications. However, the high cost to obtain high-resolution DEM data over a large area through sensors with higher precision poses a challenge for many geographic analysis applications. Inspired by the convolution neural network (CNN) excellent performance in super-resolution (SR) image analysis, this paper investigates the use of deep residual neural networks and low-resolution DEMs to generate high-resolution DEMs. An enhanced double-filter deep residual neural network (EDEM-SR) method is proposed, which uses filters with different receptive field sizes to fuse and extract features and reconstruct a more realistic high-resolution DEM. The results were compared with those generated with the bicubic, bilinear, and EDSR methods. The numerical accuracy and terrain feature preserving effects of the EDEM-SR method can generate reconstructed DEMs that better match the original DEMs, show lower MAE and RMSE, and improve the accuracy of the terrain parameters. MAE is reduced by about 30 to 50% compared with traditional interpolation methods. Building extraction is a basic task in the field of remote sensing, and it has also been a popular research topic in the past decade. However, the shape of the semantic polygon generated by semantic segmentation is irregular and does not match the actual building boundary. The boundary of buildings generated by semantic edge detection has difficulty ensuring continuity and integrity. Due to the aforementioned problems, we cannot directly apply the results in many drawing tasks and engineering applications. In this paper, we propose a novel convolutional neural network (CNN) model based on multitask learning, Dense D-LinkNet (DDLNet), which adopts full-scale skip connections and edge guidance module to ensure the effective combination of low-level information and high-level information. DDLNet has good adaptability to both semantic segmentation tasks and edge detection tasks. Moreover, we propose a universal postprocessing method that integrates semantic edges and semantic polygons. It can solve the aforementioned problems and more accurately locate buildings, especially building boundaries. Remote sensing change detection (RSCD) is an important yet challenging task in Earth observation. The booming development of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in computer vision raises new possibilities for RSCD, and many recent RSCD methods have introduced CNNs to achieve promising improvements in performance. In this paper we propose a novel multidirectional fusion and perception network for change detection in bi-temporal very-high-resolution remote sensing images. First, we propose an elaborate feature fusion module consisting of a multidirectional fusion pathway (MFP) and an adaptive weighted fusion (AWF) strategy for RSCD to boost the way that information propagates in the network. The MFP enhances the flexibility and diversity of information paths by creating extra top-down and shortcut-connection paths. The AWF strategy conducts weight recalibration for every fusion node to highlight salient feature maps and overcome semantic gaps between different features. Second, a novel perceptual similarity module is designed to introduce perceptual loss into the RSCD task, which adds perceptual information, such as structure and semantic information, for high-quality change map generation. Extensive experiments on four challenging benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed network compared with eight state-of-the-art methods in terms of F1, Kappa, and visual qualities. Automatic target recognition (ATR) in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images has been widely used in civilian and military fields. Traditional model-based methods and template matching methods do not work well under extended operating conditions (EOCs), such as depression angle variant, configuration variant, and noise corruption. To improve the recognition performance, methods based on convolutional neural networks (CNN) have been introduced to solve such problems and have shown outstanding performance. However, most of these methods rely on continuously increasing the width and depth of networks. This adds a large number of parameters and computational overhead, which is not conducive to deployment on edge devices. To solve these problems, a novel lightweight fully convolutional neural network based on Channel-Attention mechanism, Channel-Shuffle mechanism, and Inverted-Residual block, namely the ASIR-Net, is proposed in this paper. Specifically, we deploy Inverted-Residual blocks to extract features in high-dimensional space with fewer parameters and design a Channel-Attention mechanism to distribute different weights to different channels. Then, in order to increase the exchange of information between channels, we introduce the Channel-Shuffle mechanism into the Inverted-Residual block. Finally, to alleviate the matter of the scarcity of SAR images and strengthen the generalization performance of the network, four approaches of data augmentation are proposed. The effect and generalization performance of the proposed ASIR-Net have been proved by a lot of experiments under both SOC and EOCs on the MSTAR dataset. Clouds constitute a major obstacle to the application of optical remote-sensing images as they destroy the continuity of the ground information in the images and reduce their utilization rate. Therefore, cloud detection has become an important preprocessing step for optical remote-sensing image applications. Due to the fact that the features of clouds in current cloud-detection methods are mostly manually interpreted and the information in remote-sensing images is complex, the accuracy and generalization of current cloud-detection methods are unsatisfactory. As cloud detection aims to extract cloud regions from the background, it can be regarded as a semantic segmentation problem. A cloud-detection method based on deep convolutional neural networks (DCNN)—that is, a spatial folding–unfolding remote-sensing network (SFRS-Net)—is introduced in the paper, and the reason for the inaccuracy of DCNN during cloud region segmentation and the concept of space folding/unfolding is presented. The backbone network of the proposed method adopts an encoder–decoder structure, in which the pooling operation in the encoder is replaced by a folding operation, and the upsampling operation in the decoder is replaced by an unfolding operation. As a result, the accuracy of cloud detection is improved, while the generalization is guaranteed. In the experiment, the multispectral data of the GaoFen-1 (GF-1) satellite is collected to form a dataset, and the overall accuracy (OA) of this method reaches 96.98%, which is a satisfactory result. This study aims to develop a method that is suitable for cloud detection and can complement other cloud-detection methods, providing a reference for researchers interested in cloud detection of remote-sensing images. Timely acquisition of spatial flood distribution is an essential basis for flood-disaster monitoring and management. Remote-sensing data have been widely used in water-body surveys. However, due to the cloudy weather and complex geomorphic environment, the inability to receive remote-sensing images throughout the day has resulted in some data being missing and unable to provide dynamic and continuous flood inundation process data. To fully and effectively use remote-sensing data, we developed a new decision support system for integrated flood inundation management based on limited and intermittent remote-sensing data. Firstly, we established a new multi-scale water-extraction convolutional neural network named DEU-Net to extract water from remote-sensing images automatically. A specific datasets training method was created for typical region types to separate the water body from the confusing surface features more accurately. Secondly, we built a waterfront contour active tracking model to implicitly describe the flood movement interface. In this way, the flooding process was converted into the numerical solution of the partial differential equation of the boundary function. Space upwind difference format and the time Euler difference format were used to perform the numerical solution. Finally, we established seven indicators that considered regional characteristics and flood-inundation attributes to evaluate flood-disaster losses. The cloud model using the entropy weight method was introduced to account for uncertainties in various parameters. In the end, a decision support system realizing the flood losses risk visualization was developed by using the ArcGIS application programming interface (API). To verify the effectiveness of the model constructed in this paper, we conducted numerical experiments on the model's performance through comparative experiments based on a laboratory scale and actual scale, respectively. The results were as follows: (1) The DEU-Net method had a better capability to accurately extract various water bodies, such as urban water bodies, open-air ponds, plateau lakes etc., than the other comparison methods. (2) The simulation results of the active tracking model had good temporal and spatial consistency with the image extraction results and actual statistical data compared with the synthetic observation data. (3) The application results showed that the system has high computational efficiency and noticeable visualization effects. Instance segmentation of high-resolution aerial images is challenging when compared to object detection and semantic segmentation in remote sensing applications. It adopts boundary-aware mask predictions, instead of traditional bounding boxes, to locate the objects-of-interest in pixel-wise. Meanwhile, instance segmentation can distinguish the densely distributed objects within a certain category by a different color, which is unavailable in semantic segmentation. Despite the distinct advantages, there are rare methods which are dedicated to the high-quality instance segmentation for high-resolution aerial images. In this paper, a novel instance segmentation method, termed consistent proposals of instance segmentation network (CPISNet), for high-resolution aerial images is proposed. Following top-down instance segmentation formula, it adopts the adaptive feature extraction network (AFEN) to extract the multi-level bottom-up augmented feature maps in design space level. Then, elaborated RoI extractor (ERoIE) is designed to extract the mask RoIs via the refined bounding boxes from proposal consistent cascaded (PCC) architecture and multi-level features from AFEN. Finally, the convolution block with shortcut connection is responsible for generating the binary mask for instance segmentation. Experimental conclusions can be drawn on the iSAID and NWPU VHR-10 instance segmentation dataset: (1) Each individual module in CPISNet acts on the whole instance segmentation utility; (2) CPISNet* exceeds vanilla Mask R-CNN 3.4%/3.8% A P on iSAID validation/test set and 9.2% A P on NWPU VHR-10 instance segmentation dataset; (3) The aliasing masks, missing segmentations, false alarms, and poorly segmented masks can be avoided to some extent for CPISNet; (4) CPISNet receives high precision of instance segmentation for aerial images and interprets the objects with fitting boundary.
