Winter wheat is a significant global food crop, and it is crucial to monitor its distribution for better agricultural management, land planning, and environmental sustainability. However, the distribution style of winter wheat planting fields is not consistent due to different terrain conditions. In mountainous areas, winter wheat planting units are smaller in size and fragmented in distribution compared to plain areas. Unfortunately, most crop-mapping research based on deep learning ignores the impact of topographic relief on crop distribution and struggles to handle hilly areas effectively. In this paper, we propose a cross-modal segmentation network for winter wheat mapping in complex terrain using remote-sensing multi-temporal images and DEM data. First, we propose a diverse receptive fusion (DRF) module, which applies a deformable receptive field to optical images during the feature fusion process, allowing it to match winter wheat plots of varying scales and a fixed receptive field to the DEM to extract evaluation features at a consistent scale. Second, we developed a distributed weight attention (DWA) module, which can enhance the feature intensity of winter wheat, thereby reducing the omission rate of planting areas, especially for the small-sized regions in hilly terrain. Furthermore, to demonstrate the performance of our model, we conducted extensive experiments and ablation studies on a large-scale dataset in Lanling county, Shandong province, China. Soil salinization is a critical and global environmental problem. Effectively mapping and monitoring the spatial distribution of soil salinity is essential. The main aim of this work was to map soil salinity in Shandong Province located on the Yellow River Delta of China using Sentinel-1/2 remote sensing data and digital elevation model (DEM) data, coupled with soil sampling data, and combined with four regression models: support vector regression (SVR), stepwise multi-regression (SMR), partial least squares regression (PLSR) and random forest regression (RFR). For these purposes, 60 soil samples were collected during the field survey conducted from 9 to 14 October 2019, corresponding to the Sentinel-1/2 and DEM data. Then we established a soil salinity and feature dataset based on the sampled data and the features extracted from Sentinel-1/2 and DEM data. This study adopted the feature importance of the RF model to screen all features. The results showed that the CRSI index made the greatest contribution in retrieving soil salinity in this region. In this paper, 18 sampling points were used to validate and compare the performance of the four models. The results reveal that, compared with the other regression models, the PLSR model has the best performance (R2 = 0.66, and RMSE = 1.30). Finally, the PLSR method was used to predict the spatial distribution of soil salinity in the Yellow River Delta. GaoFen 7 (GF-7) is China's first submeter high-resolution stereo mapping satellite with dual-linear-array cameras and a laser altimeter system onboard for high-precision mapping. To further take advantage of the very high elevation accuracy of laser altimetry data and the high relative accuracy with stereo images, an innovative combined adjustment method for GF-7 stereo images with laser altimetry data is presented in this paper. In this method, two flexible and effective schemes were proposed to extract the elevation control point according to the registration of footprint images and stereo images and then utilized as vertical control in the block adjustment to improve the elevation accuracy without ground control points (GCPs). The validation experiments were conducted in Shandong, China, with different terrains. The results demonstrated that, after using the laser altimetry data, the root mean square error (RMSE) of elevation was dramatically improved from the original 2.15 m to 0.75 m, while the maximum elevation error was less than 1.6 m. Moreover, by integrating a few horizontal control points, the planar and elevation accuracy can be simultaneously improved. The cement industry, as one of the primary contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, accounts for 7% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. There is an urgent need to establish a rapid method for detecting cement plants to facilitate effective monitoring. In this study, a comprehensive method based on YOLOv5-IEG and the Thermal Signature Detection module using Google Earth optical imagery and SDGSAT-1 thermal infrared imagery was proposed to detect large-scale cement plant information, including geographic location and operational status. The improved algorithm demonstrated an increase of 4.8% in accuracy and a 7.7% improvement in MAP@.5:95. In a specific empirical investigation in China, we successfully detected 781 large-scale cement plants with an accuracy of 90.8%. Specifically, of the 55 cement plants in Shandong Province, we identified 46 as operational and nine as non-operational. The successful application of advanced models and remote sensing technology in efficiently and accurately tracking the operational status of cement plants provides crucial support for environmental protection and sustainable development. The coal industry is a crucial component of China's energy sector. However, the persistent exploitation of coal resources has gravely impacted the ecological environment. While the Remote Sensing Ecology Index (RSEI) is predominantly used for assessing ecological quality, its primary focus has been urban or aquatic environments. There is limited research focused on the evaluation of the ecological environment quality in mining areas. Moreover, the information regarding surface deformation caused by coal mining extraction is an essential factor in the ecological monitoring of mining areas. Therefore, this study proposed the Modified Remote Sensing Ecology Index (MRSEI). This enhanced model merges active and passive remote sensing techniques and incorporates a deformation factor (Surface Deformation Index, SDI) to provide a holistic evaluation of mining area ecologies. Furthermore, for comparative verification, we developed the Eco-environmental Quality Index (EQI) model by selecting 12 ecological parameters and employing a hierarchical analysis. The Juye mining area in Shandong Province was selected as the region of study. MRSEI results from 2015 to 2021 indicate a decline in the ecological quality of the Juye mining area, with MRSEI values registering at 0.691, 0.644, and 0.617. The EQI model mirrors this decreasing trend over the same period. Despite MRSEI using fewer indicators, its assessments align closely with the multi-indicator EQI method. This validates the accuracy of the MRSEI method, providing reliable technical support for the monitoring and evaluation of ecological environment quality in mining areas. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Agricultural greenhouses (AGs) are an important component of modern facility agriculture, and accurately mapping and dynamically monitoring their distribution are necessary for agricultural scientific management and planning. Semantic segmentation can be adopted for AG extraction from remote sensing images. However, the feature maps obtained by traditional deep convolutional neural network (DCNN)-based segmentation algorithms blur spatial details and insufficient attention is usually paid to contextual representation. Meanwhile, the maintenance of the original morphological characteristics, especially the boundaries, is still a challenge for precise identification of AGs. To alleviate these problems, this paper proposes a novel network called high-resolution boundary refined network (HBRNet). In this method, we design a new backbone with multiple paths based on HRNetV2 aiming to preserve high spatial resolution and improve feature extraction capability, in which the Pyramid Cross Channel Attention (PCCA) module is embedded to residual blocks to strengthen the interaction of multiscale information. Moreover, the Spatial Enhancement (SE) module is employed to integrate the contextual information of different scales. In addition, we introduce the Spatial Gradient Variation (SGV) unit in the Boundary Refined (BR) module to couple the segmentation task and boundary learning task, so that they can share latent high-level semantics and interact with each other, and combine this with the joint loss to refine the boundary. In our study, GaoFen-2 remote sensing images in Shouguang City, Shandong Province, China are selected to make the AG dataset. The experimental results show that HBRNet demonstrates a significant improvement in segmentation performance up to an IoU score of 94.89%, implying that this approach has advantages and potential for precise identification of AGs. Land use is a process that turns a piece of land's natural ecosystem into an artificial one. The mix of plant and man-made covers on the Earth's surface is known as land cover. Land use is the primary external force behind change in land cover, and land cover has an impact on how land use is carried out, resulting in a synergistic interaction between the two at the Earth's surface. In China's Shandong Peninsula city cluster, Dongying is a significant coastal port city. It serves as the administrative hub for the Yellow River Delta and is situated in Shandong Province, China's northeast. The changes in its urban land use and land cover in the future are crucial to understanding. This research suggests a prediction approach that combines a patch-generation land use simulation (PLUS) model and long-term short-term memory (LSTM) deep learning algorithm to increase the accuracy of predictions of future land use and land cover. The effectiveness of the new method is demonstrated by the fact that the average inaccuracy of simulating any sort of land use in 2020 is around 5.34%. From 2020 to 2030, 361.41 km2 of construction land is converted to cropland, and 424.11 km2 of cropland is converted to water. The conversion areas between water and unused land and cropland are 211.47 km2 and 148.42 km2, respectively. The area of construction land and cropland will decrease by 8.38% and 3.64%, respectively, while the area of unused land, water, and grassland will increase by 5.53%, 2.44%, and 0.78%, respectively. Green tide beaching events have occurred frequently in the Yellow Sea since 2007, causing a series of ecological and economic problems. Satellite imagery has been widely applied to monitor green tide outbreaks in open water. Traditional satellite sensors, however, are limited by coarse resolution or a low revisit rate, making it difficult to provide timely distribution of information about green tides in the nearshore. In this study, both PlanetScope Super Dove images and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images are used to monitor green tide beaching events on the southern side of Shandong Peninsula, China. A deep learning model (VGGUnet) is used to extract the green tide features and quantify the green tide coverage area or biomass density. Compared with the U-net model, the VGGUnet model has a higher accuracy on the Super Dove and UAV images, with F1-scores of 0.93 and 0.92, respectively. The VGGUnet model is then applied to monitor the distribution of green tide on the beach and in the nearshore water; the results suggest that the VGGUnet model can accurately extract green tide features while discarding other confusing features. By using the Super Dove and UAV images, green tide beaching events can be accurately monitored and are consistent with field investigations. From the perspective of near real-time green tide monitoring, high-resolution imagery combined with deep learning is an effective approach. Marine dynamic disasters, such as storm surges and huge waves, can cause large economic and human losses. The assessment of marine dynamic disasters is, thus, important, but improvements to its reliability are needed. The current study improved and integrated the assessment from the perspective of multi-factor coupling. Using a weighted index system, a marine dynamic disaster assessment indicator system suitable for China's coastal waters was established, and a method for calculating the weight of disaster indicators was proposed from the perspective of rapid assessment. To reduce the assessment deviation in coastal waters, a multi-factor coupling algorithm was proposed. This algorithm obtained amplitude variations of wave orbital motion in horizontal and vertical directions, which was used to evaluate the influence of background current and terrain slope on coastal ocean waves. Landsat 8 remote sensing images were used to carry out an object-oriented extraction of raft and cage aquaculture areas in China's coastal waters. The aquaculture density was then used as the main basis for a vulnerability assessment. Finally, the whole assessment system was integrated and verified during a typical storm surge process in coastal waters around the Shandong Peninsula in China. Agricultural drought is a major problem facing China's agricultural production. In this study, the cash crop 'peanut' was used as an example to explore vulnerability. Through the atmosphere–plant–soil continuum system, a single index that could represent different types of droughts affecting peanuts was selected and weighted using the CRITIC weighting method to construct a multi-source data fusion drought index (MFDI). Then, Pearson correlation analysis between the comprehensive drought index and relative meteorological yield and the Mann–Kendall trend test for different growth periods of peanuts were used to verify MFDI and analyze the variation over time. A three-dimensional vulnerability assessment method of drought intensity–drought duration–yield reduction rate was established based on the run theory and trend surface analysis. The results show that the constructed multi-source data fusion drought index (MFDI) can more accurately characterize the actual drought conditions of peanuts in Shandong Province. The MFDI results showed that the drought severity in the coastal areas of the study area decreased with the growth and development of peanuts, while the drought became more severe in the western and northern parts during the late growth period of peanuts. The vulnerability surface of the drought intensity–drought duration–yield reduction rate showed that when the drought intensity was < 0.8 and the duration was < 3.5 months, the vulnerability of peanut crops was low, and then with the increase in drought intensity or duration, the vulnerability increased. The impact of drought duration cannot be ignored. In contrast to traditional vulnerability assessment methods, this study established a three-dimensional vulnerability surface, which provides a new approach for agricultural drought vulnerability assessment. Deep learning-based semantic segmentation technology is widely applied in remote sensing and has achieved excellent performance in remote sensing image target extraction. Greenhouses play an important role in the development of agriculture in China. However, the rapid expansion of greenhouses has had a series of impacts on the environment. Therefore, the extraction of large-scale greenhouses is crucial for the sustainable development of agriculture and environmental governance. It is difficult for existing methods to acquire precise boundaries. Therefore, we propose a spatial convolutional long short-term memory structure, which can fully consider the spatial continuity of ground objects. We use multitask learning to improve the network's ability to extract image boundaries and promote convergence through auxiliary loss. We propose a superpixel optimization module to optimize the main-branch results of network semantic segmentation using more precise boundaries obtained by advanced superpixel segmentation techniques. Compared with other mainstream methods, our proposed structure can better consider spatial information and obtain more accurate results. We chose Shandong Province, China, as the study area and used Gaofen-1 satellite remote sensing images to create a new greenhouse dataset. Our method achieved an F1 score of 77%, a significant improvement over mainstream semantic segmentation networks, and it could extract greenhouse results with more precise boundaries. The serious pollution of PM2.5 caused by rapid urbanization in recent years has become an urgent problem to be solved in China. Annual and daily satellite-derived PM2.5 datasets from 2001 to 2020 were used to analyze the temporal and spatial patterns of PM2.5 in China. The regional and population exposure risks of the nation and of urban agglomerations were evaluated by exceedance frequency and population weight. The results indicated that the PM2.5 concentrations of urban agglomerations decreased sharply from 2014 to 2020. The region with PM2.5 concentrations less than 35 μg·m−3 accounted for 80.27% in China, and the average PM2.5 concentrations in 8 urban agglomerations were less than 35 μg·m−3 in 2020. The spatial distribution pattern of PM2.5 concentrations in China revealed higher concentrations to the east of the Hu Line and lower concentrations to the west. The annual regional exposure risk (RER) in China was at a high level, with a national average of 0.75, while the average of 14 urban agglomerations was as high as 0.86. Among the 14 urban agglomerations, the average annual RER was the highest in the Shandong Peninsula (0.99) and lowest in the Northern Tianshan Mountains (0.76). The RER in China has obvious seasonality; the most serious was in winter, and the least serious was in summer. The population exposure risk (PER) east of the Hu Line was significantly higher than that west of the Hu Line. The average PER was the highest in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (4.09) and lowest in the Northern Tianshan Mountains (0.71). The analysis of air pollution patterns and exposure risks in China and urban agglomerations in this study could provide scientific guidance for cities seeking to alleviate air pollution and prevent residents' exposure risks. To explore the fast, accurate, and efficient remote sensing identification method of cultivated land quality, this study took Shandong Province as the study area, and used measured data to carry out the soil quality evaluation based on conventional GIS. On this basis, MODIS sequence images were used as remote sensing data sources, and multi-source data such as topography, meteorology, and statistical yearbook were fused. Then, according to the Pressure-State-Response framework, we constructed three kinds of characteristic indicators through distinguishing crop rotation types and fusing remote sensing data. Finally, the soil quality grade was identified by the random forest method, and the accuracy analysis was carried out. The results showed that the NDVI peak values of double-season crops are in mid-April and mid-August, and one-season crops are in mid-August. Through evaluation, soil quality was divided into three categories, with six grades. Through principal component analysis, each soil status indicator contains two to three principal components, and each principal component contains five to eight temporal crop remote sensing information. After distinguishing crop rotation types and fusing remote sensing images, the identification accuracy of soil quality is significantly improved. The overall accuracy is 79.18%, 86.12%, and 93.65%, and the Kappa coefficient is 0.66, 0.77, and 0.90, respectively. This research developed an automatic identification method for cultivated land quality grade, and it proved that distinguishing crop rotation types and fusing multi-temporal crop remote sensing information are effective ways to improve identification accuracy. Offshore marine aquaculture can not only provide a large amount of high-quality food for humans, but also effectively relieve the pressure on land space. However, it is difficult for traditional statistical data to reflect changes in spatial dynamics in marine aquaculture. It is also difficult to effectively manage marine space development given the current status of spatial planning regarding land–sea integration. This study used multiphase satellite remote sensing images of Shandong Province together with an automatic extraction algorithm for aquaculture to obtain spatial distribution data of marine aquaculture (surface of seawater visible by remote sensing, types of rafts, and cage aquaculture). GIS spatial overlay analysis technology was used to superimpose marine functional zoning (2010–2020) data for comparative analysis to evaluate implementation effectiveness and existing problems in marine functional zoning. Results showed that the critical time regarding substantial change in marine aquaculture area was around 2010, concurrent with the implementation of the current round of marine functional areas. The aquaculture area in the agricultural and fishery planning area increased from 228.33 km2 in 2010 to 344.6 km2 in 2018, and the overall proportion of aquaculture increased from 65.53% to 70.48%. This indicated that marine function planning can exert a guiding influence. The port area and protection area were found to be other major areas for the expansion of marine aquaculture. We also used field investigations in uncovering the phenomenon of the combined marine functions of marine aquaculture and tourism. On this basis, the role of spatial information technology in marine spatial planning was analyzed, which revealed the importance of coordinated integration of land–sea space for effective control of marine development. Agricultural greenhouse (AG), one of the fastest-growing technology-based approaches worldwide in terms of controlling the environmental conditions of crops, plays an essential role in food production, resource conservation and the rural economy, but has also caused environmental and socio-economic problems due to policy promotion and market demand. Therefore, long-term monitoring of AG is of utmost importance for the sustainable management of protected agriculture, and previous efforts have verified the effectiveness of remote sensing-based techniques for mono-temporal AG mapping in a relatively small area. However, currently, a continuous annual AG remote sensing-based dataset at large-scale is generally unavailable. In this study, an annual AG mapping method oriented to the provincial area and long-term period was developed to produce the first Landsat-derived annual AG dataset in Shandong province, China from 1989 to 2018 on the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform. The mapping window for each year was selected based on the vegetation growth and the phenological information, which was critical in distinguishing AG from other misclassified categories. Classification for each year was carried out initially based on the random forest classifier after the feature optimization. A temporal consistency correction algorithm based on classification probability was then proposed to the classified AG maps for further improvement. Finally, the average User's Accuracy, Producer's Accuracy and F1-score of AG based on visually-interpreted samples over 30 years reached 96.56%, 86.64% and 0.911, respectively. Furthermore, we also found that the ranked features via calculating the importance of each tested feature resulted in the highest accuracy and the strongest stability in the initial classification stage, and the proposed temporal consistency correction algorithm improved the final products by approximately five percent on average. In general, the resultant AG sequence dataset from our study has revealed the expansion of this typical object of "Human–Nature" interaction in agriculture and has a potential application in use of greenhouse-related technology and the scientific planning of protected agriculture.
