Grasshoppers can greatly interfere with agriculture and husbandry, and they will breed and grow rapidly in suitable habitats. Therefore, it is necessary to extract the distribution of the grasshopper potential habitat (GPH), analyze the spatial-temporal characteristics of the GPH, and detect the different effects of key environmental factors in the meadow and typical steppe. To achieve the goal, this study took the two steppe types of Xilingol (the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China) as the research object and coupled them with the MaxEnt and multisource remote sensing data to establish a model. First, the environmental factors, including meteorological, vegetation, topographic, and soil factors, that affect the developmental stages of grasshoppers were obtained. Secondly, the GPH associated with meadow and typical steppes from 2018 to 2022 were extracted based on the MaxEnt model. Then, the spatial-temporal characteristics of the GPHs were analyzed. Finally, the effects of the habitat factors in two steppe types were explored. The results demonstrated that the most suitable and moderately suitable areas were distributed mainly in the southern part of the meadow steppe and the eastern and southern parts of the typical steppe. Additionally, most areas in the town of Gaorihan, Honggeergaole, Jirengaole, as well as the border of Wulanhalage and Haoretugaole became more suitable for grasshoppers from 2018 to 2022. This paper also found that the soil temperature in the egg stage, the vegetation type, the soil type, and the precipitation amount in the nymph stage were significant factors both in the meadow and typical steppes. The slope and precipitation in the egg stage played more important roles in the typical steppe, whereas the aspect had a greater contribution to the meadow steppe. The Dasuji giant porphyry molybdenum deposit is one of the largest ore deposits recently discovered along the Yinshan–Yanshan–Liaoning molybdenum belt in China. Using this deposit along the Yinshan–Yanshan–Liaoning molybdenum belt as the study area, the present study proposed a two-stage approach aimed at marking out the hydrothermally altered anomalies in the study area for the guidance of future prospecting in other regions. First of all, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and specific Band Ratio methods were applied to the ASTER images from different acquisition dates to extract ferric oxides and hydroxyl alterations related to the porphyry molybdenum deposit. Then, the Fractal-Aided Anomaly-Overlaying Selection model was adopted to recognize two ferric and hydroxyl alteration layers for separating anomalies from the interferences caused by geology and random noise from the data. Furthermore, for lithological differentiation in the previously marked off area, the Random Forest Classifier (RFC) was applied to the composite data obtained via the ASTER, ETM, and DEM, and it is demonstrated that the DEM can significantly improve lithological mapping in areas with complex vegetation cover and topography. Based on field verification and comparison with geological maps, the research revealed that the suggested two-stage approach may effectively reduce erroneously recognized anomalies produced during the first stage while retaining ore-related anomalies for gigantic porphyry molybdenum deposit prospecting in the Dasuji area, which showed the good application potential of the proposed model to extract actual hydrothermally altered anomalies adopted for lithological discrimination and mapping. Detailed information from global remote sensing has greatly advanced our understanding of Earth as a system in general and of agricultural processes in particular. Vegetation monitoring with global remote sensing systems over long time periods is critical to gain a better understanding of processes related to agricultural change over long time periods. This specifically relates to sub-humid to semi-arid ecosystems, where agricultural change in grazing lands can only be detected based on long time series. By integrating data from different sensors it is theoretically possible to construct NDVI time series back to the early 1980s. However, such integration is hampered by uncertainties in the comparability between different sensor products. To be able to rely on vegetation trends derived from integrated time series it is therefore crucial to investigate whether vegetation trends derived from NDVI and phenological parameters are consistent across products. In this paper we analyzed several indicators of vegetation change for a range of agricultural systems in Inner Mongolia, China, and compared the results across different satellite archives. Specifically, we compared two of the prime NDVI archives-AVHRR Global Inventory Modeling and Mapping Studies (GIMMS) and SPOT Vegetation (VGT) NDVI. Because a true accuracy assessment of long time series is not possible, we further compared SPOT VGT NDVI with NDVI from MODIS Terra as a benchmark. We found high similarities in interannual trends, and also in trends of the seasonal amplitude and integral between SPOT VGT and MODIS Terra (r > 0.9). However, we observed considerable disagreements in NDVI-derived trends between AVHRR GIMMS and SPOT VGT. We detected similar discrepancies for trends based on phenological parameters, such as amplitude and integral of NDVI curves corresponding to seasonal vegetation cycles. Inconsistencies were partially related to land cover and vegetation density. Different pre-processing schemes and the coarser spatial resolution of AVHRR GIMMS introduced further uncertainties. Our results corroborate findings from other studies that vegetation trends derived from AVHRR GIMMS data not always reflect true vegetation changes. A more thorough understanding of the factors introducing uncertainties in AVHRR GIMMS time series is needed, and we caution against using AVHRR GIMMS data in regional studies without applying regional sensitivity analyses. Particle size distribution is an important characteristic of reclaimed soil in arid and semi-arid mining areas in western China, which is important in the ecological environment protection and control of the Yellow River Basin. Large-scale coal resource mining disturbances have caused serious damage to the fragile ecological environment. The timely and accurate dynamic monitoring of mining area topsoil information has practical significance for ecological restoration and management evaluation. Investigating Wuhai City in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China, this study uses Landsat8 OLI multispectral images and measured soil sample particle size data to analyze soil spectral characteristics and establish a particle size content prediction model to retrieve the particle size distribution in the study area. The experimental results and analysis demonstrate that: (1) the 6SV (Second Simulation of the Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum Vector version) atmospheric correction model is more accurate than the FLAASH (Fast Line-of-sight Atmospheric Analysis of Hypercubes) model in arid and semi-arid areas with undulating terrain; (2) 0–40 cm is the optimum soil thickness for modeling and predicting particle size content in this study; and (3) the multi-band prediction model is more precise than the single-band prediction model. The multi-band model's sequence of advantages and disadvantages is SVM (Support Vector Machine) > MLR (Multiple Linear Regression) > PLSR (Partial Least Squares Regression). Among them, the 6SV-SVM model has the highest precision, and the prediction precision R2 of the 3 particle sizes' contents is above 0.95, which can effectively predict the soil particle-size distribution and provide effective data to support topsoil quality change monitoring in the mine land reclamation area. With increasing consumption, plastic mulch benefits agriculture by promoting crop quality and yield, but the environmental and soil pollution is becoming increasingly serious. Therefore, research on the monitoring of plastic mulched farmland (PMF) has received increasing attention. Plastic mulched farmland in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) remote images due to the high resolution, shows a prominent spatial pattern, which brings difficulties to the task of monitoring PMF. In this paper, through a comparison between two deep semantic segmentation methods, SegNet and fully convolutional networks (FCN), and a traditional classification method, Support Vector Machine (SVM), we propose an end-to-end deep-learning method aimed at accurately recognizing PMF for UAV remote sensing images from Hetao Irrigation District, Inner Mongolia, China. After experiments with single-band, three-band and six-band image data, we found that deep semantic segmentation models built via single-band data which only use the texture pattern of PMF can identify it well; for example, SegNet reaching the highest accuracy of 88.68% in a 900 nm band. Furthermore, with three visual bands and six-band data (3 visible bands and 3 near-infrared bands), deep semantic segmentation models combining the texture and spectral features further improve the accuracy of PMF identification, whereas six-band data obtains an optimal performance for FCN and SegNet. In addition, deep semantic segmentation methods, FCN and SegNet, due to their strong feature extraction capability and direct pixel classification, clearly outperform the traditional SVM method in precision and speed. Among three classification methods, SegNet model built on three-band and six-band data obtains the optimal average accuracy of 89.62% and 90.6%, respectively. Therefore, the proposed deep semantic segmentation model, when tested against the traditional classification method, provides a promising path for mapping PMF in UAV remote sensing images. High-resolution Corona imagery acquired by the United States through spy missions in the 1960s presents an opportunity to gain critical insight into historic land cover conditions and expand the timeline of available data for land cover change analyses, particularly in regions such as Northern China where data from that era are scarce. Corona imagery requires time-intensive pre-processing, and the existing literature lacks the necessary detail required to replicate these processes easily. This is particularly true in landscapes where dynamic physical processes, such as aeolian desertification, reshape topography over time or regions with few persistent features for use in geo-referencing. In this study, we present a workflow for georeferencing Corona imagery in a highly desertified landscape that contained mobile dunes, shifting vegetation cover, and a few reference points. We geo-referenced four Corona images from Inner Mongolia, China using uniquely derived ground control points and Landsat TM imagery with an overall accuracy of 11.77 m, and the workflow is documented in sufficient detail for replication in similar environments. (1) Background: Eco−spatial networks play an important role in enhancing ecosystem services and landscape connectivity. It is necessary to study landscape structure optimization to achieve synergistic gains in network connectivity and ecosystem functionality. (2) Method: Based on remote sensing data, RS and GIS were used to evaluate the spatiotemporal changes in ecosystem services in China. Combined with complex network theory, the spatiotemporal evolution of China's ecological spatial network and its topological structure from 2005 to 2020 is discussed. Network function–structure co−optimization was carried out using the edge augmentation strategy. (3) Result: The "three River resource" has high water conservation and high soil and water conservation in southeastern hilly areas. There is strong windbreak and sand fixation in southeastern Inner Mongolia. In the past 15 years, there have been about 8200 sources and about 14,000 corridors. The network has the characteristics of small−world and heterogeneity. After optimization, 18 sources and 3180 corridors are added, and the network connectivity and robustness are stronger. Finally, five regions are divided according to the network heterogeneity and corresponding protection and management countermeasures are proposed to provide scientific guidance for the country's territorial space planning. Estimating the Start of Growing Season (SOS) of grassland on the global scale is an important scientific issue since it can reflect the response of the terrestrial ecosystem to environmental changes and determine the start time of grazing. However, most remote sensing data has coarse- temporal and spatial resolution, resulting in low accuracy of SOS retrieval based on remote sensing methods. In recent years, much research has focused on multi-source data fusion technology to improve the spatio-temporal resolution of remote sensing information, and to provide a feasible path for high-accuracy remote sensing inversion of SOS. Nevertheless, there is still a lack of quantitative evaluation for the accuracy of these data fusion methods in SOS estimation. Therefore, in this study, the SOS estimation accuracy is quantitatively evaluated based on the spatio-temporal fusion daily datasets through the Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM) and other models in Xilinhot City, Inner Mongolia, China. The results show that: (1) the accuracy of SOS estimation based on spatio-temporal fusion daily datasets has been slightly improved, the average Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of SOS based on 8d composite datasets is 11.1d, and the best is 9.7d ( f s t a r f m 8 ); (2) the estimation accuracy based on 8d composite datasets ( R M S E ¯ = 11.1d) is better than daily fusion datasets ( R M S E ¯ = 18.2d); (3) the lack of the Landsat data during the SOS would decrease the quality of the fusion datasets, which ultimately reduces the accuracy of the SOS estimation. The R M S E ¯ of SOS based on all three models increases by 11.1d, and the STARFM is least affected, just increases 2.7d. The results highlight the potential of the spatio-temporal data fusion method in high-accuracy grassland SOS estimation. With advances in remote sensing, massive amounts of remotely sensed data can be harnessed to support land use/land cover (LULC) change studies over larger scales and longer terms. However, a big challenge is missing data as a result of poor weather conditions and possible sensor malfunctions during image data collection. In this study, cloud-based and open source distributed frameworks that used Apache Spark and Apache Giraph were used to build an integrated infrastructure to fill data gaps within a large-area LULC dataset. Data mining techniques (k-medoids clustering and quadratic discriminant analysis) were applied to facilitate sub-space analyses. Ancillary environmental and socioeconomic conditions were integrated to support localized model training. Multi-temporal transition probability matrices were deployed in a graph-based Markov–cellular automata simulator to fill in missing data. A comprehensive dataset for Inner Mongolia, China, from 2000 to 2016 was used to assess the feasibility, accuracy, and performance of this gap-filling approach. The result is a cloud-based distributed Markov–cellular automata framework that exploits the scalability and high performance of cloud computing while also achieving high accuracy when filling data gaps common in longer-term LULC studies. This study conducted land cover classification and inversion analysis to estimate land surface temperature, soil moisture, specific humidity, atmospheric water vapor density, and relative humidity using remote sensing and multi-source mining data. Using 1990–2020 data from the Shendong mining area in Inner Mongolia, China, the eco-environmental evolution and the ecological cumulative effects (ECE) of mining operations were characterized and analyzed at a long-term scale. The results show that while the eco-environment was generally stable, mining activities affected the eco-environment at the initial stage (1990–2000) to a certain degree. During the rapid development stage of coal mining, the eco-environment was severely damaged, and the ECE were significant at the temporal scale. The absolute value of the change rate of ecological parameters was increasing. Due to an increased focus on ecological restoration, starting in 2010, the environmental indicators gradually stabilized and the eco-environment improved considerably, ushering in a period of stability for coal mining activities. The absolute value of the change rate of ecological parameters became stable. Analysis of the change in eco-environmental indicators with distance and comparison to the contrast area showed the ECE characteristics from mining disturbance at the spatial scale. This study shows that remote sensing technology can be used to characterize the ECE from mining operations and analyze eco-environmental indicators, providing crucial information in support of ecological protection and restoration, particularly in coal mining areas. Fire is one of the most widespread and destructive disasters, which causes property losses, casualties, and disruption of the balance of ecosystems. Therefore, it is highly necessary for firefighting to study the variations in fire and its climatic attributions. This study analyzed the characteristics of fire-burned area (BA) and its response to climatic factors in seven subregions of China from 2001 to 2018 using satellite remote sensing BA products. The results show that the BA in China and most of its subregions shows a decreasing trend. In general, it is negatively correlated with precipitation and positively correlated with air temperature and wind speed based on the regression and correlation analyses. Based on Pearson correlation and random forest methods, it is also found that the temperature is commonly an important factor contributing to BA in China, except for R2 (Inner Mongolia region), where wind speed is more important, and R5 (South China), where precipitation is more important, which coexists at annual and seasonal scales. Besides temperature, precipitation in spring and summer is the main driving factor, such as in R1 (Northeast China), R5, R6 (Northwest China) and R7 (Qinghai–Tibet Plateau) in spring and R4 (Central China), R5 and R7 in summer; and wind speed in autumn and winter is the main driving factor, such as in R2 and R4 in autumn and R2, R3, R5, R6 and R7 in winter.
