The incorporation of multi-frequency signals into global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) has presented new possibilities for precise positioning and rapid ambiguity resolution. Inter-frequency clock bias (IFCB) pertains to the time-varying biases among distinct frequencies within carrier phase observations in GNSS signals. The appropriate handling of IFCB is critical in enhancing the accuracy and convergence time of precise point positioning (PPP) solutions. The focus of this study is on the proper modeling of phase IFCB in multi-GNSS multi-frequency PPP. In this paper, the optimal IFCB power spectral density value of 0.6 m/sqrt(s) is first determined. To obtain the optimal stochastic model for IFCB, a thorough comparison and analysis of the product correction and parameter estimation methods is conducted. Additionally, experiments are conducted on the effect of IFCB modeling on the performance of undifferenced and uncombined PPP using data from 130 multi-GNSS experiment stations across the globe over a period of one week in January 2022. The study reveals that the optimal power spectral density for IFCB is within [60, 0.006] m/sqrt(s), modeling IFCB as a random walk is feasible, and the PPP is comparable for the three IFCB processing schemes of product correction, random walk, and white noise. Meanwhile, it is not reasonable to treat IFCB as a random constant or neglect it in the multi-GNSS multi-frequency PPP. In the absence of product correction or for users who require immediate and continuous positioning solutions, modeling IFCBs as random walks can lead to more reliable positioning results and improved convergence performance. Real-time GNSS PPP is commonly used for high-precision positioning, but its utility is constrained by factors that necessitate extended convergence periods for a dependable accuracy. Multipath, as an unmodeled error, significantly curtails PPP performance in time-constrained scenarios. Approximately 31 consecutive days of multi-GNSS data from the satellite positioning service of the German national survey (SAPOS) network were collected to evaluate the effectiveness of multipath correction for real-time PPP ambiguity resolution (AR). Using principal component analysis (PCA) to extract the common-mode error (CME) from observation residuals prior to multipath modeling, a multipath hemispherical map (MHM) and sidereal filtering (SF) approach were employed to alleviate the effects of multipath and assess the efficacy of multipath correction in real-time PPP-AR. The average RMS reductions of the carrier-phase and pseudorange residual of multi-GNSS were 25.5% and 20.1% with MHM 0.5 , while being 24.4% and 18.3% using SF. With MHM 0.5 correction, the TTFF reductions were approximately 7.0%, 17.7%, 37.5%, and 23.7% for G/GE/GC/GEC kinematic PPP-AR, respectively; and the convergence times for G/GE/GC PPP-AR were reduced to 18.2, 11.7, and 8.6 min, while GEC achieved an average convergence time of 7.1 min; a remarkable improvement compared to the multipath-uncorrected result (18 min). Moreover, 80% of the stations achieved convergence within 10 min, while 40% achieved convergence within 5 min. The kinematic positioning accuracy for the GEC solution improved from 0.97, 0.88, and 2.07 cm, to 0.94, 0.70, and 1.72 cm. In the static results, the TTFF shortened by 30.1%, 19.1%, and 20.1% for G/GE/GC, and the GEC decreased from 10.5 to 9.7 min; the average convergence time for G/GE/GC shortened to 13.0, 10.0, and 11.3 min, and for GEC shortened from 12.5 to 8.3 min. For the GPS-only solution, 78.3% of stations achieved convergence within 15 min. Similarly, for the GE scheme, the convergence time was primarily concentrated within 10 min, and for GC and GEC, with the application of enhanced multipath error correction, some of the stations even achieved convergence of PPP-AR within 5 min. Multi-GNSS PPP partial ambiguity resolution (PAR) can improve the fixing success rate and shorten the time to first fix (TTFF). Ambiguity subset selection based on the bootstrapping success rate sorting criterion (BSSC) is widely used in PPP PAR due to its ease of computation and comprehensive evaluation of the global quality of ambiguity solutions. However, due to the influence of unmodeled errors, such as atmospheric residuals and gross errors, ambiguity parameter estimation will inevitably introduce bias. For ambiguity parameters with bias, their variance will converge incorrectly and will not accurately reflect the estimation accuracy. As a result, the selected ambiguity subset based on the BSSC becomes inaccurate, affecting the fixing success rate and TTFF. Therefore, we proposed an improved multi-GNSS PPP PAR method based on a two-step sorting criterion (TSSC). This method aims to address the influence of inaccurate variance of ambiguity parameters, particularly those with low observation quality, on the ambiguity subset selection based on the BSSC. The ambiguity subset satisfying the preset success rate threshold is selected to reduce the influence of unconverged ambiguity on the TSSC. In the first step of the sorting process, the observations whose elevation angle is below 30° or whose posterior residual falls into the IGG3 model reduction domain are clustered together. The posterior observation weight criterion (POWC) instead of the BSSC is adopted to sort ambiguities to overcome the false convergence of variance of ambiguity parameters. In the second step of the sorting process, the remaining ambiguities with reasonable variances are sorted based on the BSSC. Finally, the bottom ambiguity is removed one by one from the ambiguity subset sorted based on the two-step sorting criterion (TSSC) until the requirements of the ratio test for LAMBDA are met. The static data from 10 MGEX stations over a period of 30 days, along with urban kinematic data, were collected to validate the proposed method. Compared with the PAR based on the BSSC, the static experiments demonstrated a reduction of 8.7% and 16.8% in the TTFF and convergence time, respectively. Additionally, the positioning accuracy in the east, north, and up directions was improved by 20.1%, 17.1%, and 4.67%, respectively. Furthermore, the kinematic experiment revealed that the TTFF and convergence time decreased from 1.65 min and 10.5 min to 1.3 min and 1.8 min, respectively, with higher positioning accuracy. In the classic Precise Point Positioning (PPP) approach, observations of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are processed at the network level to generate satellite clocks and positions. This information can be used to enable accurate point positioning for a single GNSS receiver. In the PPP Real-Time Kinematic (PPP-RTK) approach, satellite phase biases are considered as well, enabling ambiguity resolution at the network and user levels. In this research, 30 s multi-frequency raw GPS, Galileo, and BDS-2/3 observations are processed at the network and user levels in a sequential Kalman filter. PPP-RTK enabling products are generated for up to five frequencies, and ambiguity resolution is performed at the network and user levels using a flexible ambiguity reparameterization approach, comparable to wide- and narrow-laning, which has shown to yield a significantly improved single epoch coordinate solution when multi-frequency observations are available. Different assumptions regarding the time stability of receiver and satellite phase biases have been made and compared. The availability of a precise user coordinate solution when multi-frequency and dual-frequency observations are processed is assessed and compared. A precise ambiguity-fixed solution is available in three epochs or fewer in 77% of all cases with an average of 24 visible satellites for static and kinematic receivers when multi-frequency observations are processed. When only dual-frequency observations are considered, a fixed solution is available in seven epochs or fewer in 71% of all cases. The fastest fixed solution was found in two epochs with multi-frequency observations and in six epochs with dual-frequency observations. Estimating a reference phase clock did not lead to an improvement in the coordinate solution. The findings indicate that a fixed solution can potentially be found faster than often suggested, with potential for further improvement when more satellites or regional atmospheric corrections are considered. An inter-system model for multi-GNSSs (global navigation satellite systems) makes the interoperability among different GNSS constellations possible. In recent years, inter-system models for geodetic receivers have been extensively studied. However, the precise positioning of smartphones suffers from various problems, and the current research mostly focuses on how to achieve the GNSS ambiguity resolution. Based on the research of receiver channel-dependent bias, in this study, we will research the temporal behaviors of differential inter-system bias (DISB) and implement an inter-system model for smartphones. A representative Huawei P40 (HP40) smartphone was used in the experiments, and the results show the following: (1) For the HP40, the frequencies of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) systems are free of receiver channel-dependent phase bias, which provides the chances for further interoperability among these systems. However, the code observations of the HP40 are influenced by receiver channel-dependent code bias; it is therefore suggested to set a large initial standard deviation (STD) value for code observations in the positioning. (2) GPS L1/QZSS L1 and BDS-2 B1I /BDS-3 B1I are free of phase DISB, and there is obvious phase DISB between GPS L1 and Galileo E1; even so, the valuations are sufficiently stable and the STD is close to 0.005 cycles. However, the phase DISB of GPS L1/BDS B1I is unstable. (3) For kinematic positioning, when the stable phase DISB is introduced, a 3–38.9% improvement in the N/E/U directions of the positioning accuracies in the inter-system differencing is achieved compared with the intra-system differencing. Ambiguity resolution at Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) network sites is the key step in the whole processing chain of Network Real Time Kinematic (NRTK). An appropriate ambiguity-resolution speed is important, and single-epoch ambiguity resolution has not been realized yet, especially for large-scale CORS. We attempt to realize single-epoch ambiguity resolution for a large-scale CORS network by neglecting tropospheric delay through forming difference between satellites with close mapping functions whether they belong to the same or different GNSSs. As only two frequency bands are shared among GPS, Galileo and BeiDou, the biggest challenge is how to get this single-epoch ambiguity solution for wide-lane combinations of L1 and L5 when the difference is formed between satellites of different GNSSs. The proposed method includes five steps for ambiguity resolution for different combinations: extra wide-lane, wide-lane, inter-GNSS wide-lane, subset narrow-lane and narrow-lane. The single-epoch ambiguity-resolution performance is assessed based on GNSS observations from two long-distance baselines formed with IGS stations, BRUX-REDU and BAUT-LEIJ, separated by distances of approximately 104 km and 151 km, respectively. The numerical results show that the fixing rate of the single-epoch ambiguity resolution can reach more than 90%, so for a large-scale CORS network, single-epoch ambiguity resolution is feasible and can be realized in the future. Precise Point Positioning (PPP), as a global precise positioning technique, suffers from relatively long convergence times, hindering its ability to be the default precise positioning technique. Reducing the PPP convergence time is a must to reach global precise positions, and doing so in a few minutes to seconds can be achieved thanks to the additional frequencies that are being broadcast by the modernized GNSS constellations. Due to discrepancies in the number of signals broadcast by each satellite/constellation, it is necessary to have a model that can process a mix of signals, depending on availability, and perform ambiguity resolution (AR), a technique that proved necessary for rapid convergence. This manuscript does so by expanding the uncombined Decoupled Clock Model to process and fix ambiguities on up to three frequencies depending on availability for GPS, Galileo, and BeiDou. GLONASS is included as well, without carrier-phase ambiguity fixing. Results show the possibility of consistent quasi-instantaneous global precise positioning through an assessment of the algorithm on a network of global stations, as the 67th percentile solution converges below 10 cm horizontal error within 2 min, compared to 8 min with a triple-frequency solution, showing the importance of having a flexible PPP-AR model frequency-wise. In terms of individual datasets, 14% of datasets converge instantaneously when mixing dual- and triple-frequency measurements, compared to just 0.1% in that of dual-frequency mode without ambiguity resolution. Two kinematic car datasets were also processed, and it was shown that instantaneous centimetre-level positioning with a moving receiver is possible. These results are promising as they only rely on ultra-rapid global satellite products, allowing for instantaneous real-time precise positioning without the need for any local infrastructure or prior knowledge of the receiver's environment. Suffering from hardware phase biases originating from satellites and the receiver, precise point positioning (PPP) requires a long convergence time to reach centimeter coordinate accuracy, which is a major drawback of this technique and limits its application in time-critical applications. Ambiguity resolution (AR) is the key to a fast convergence time and a high-precision solution for PPP technology and PPP AR products are critical to implement PPP AR. Nowadays, various institutions provide PPP AR products in different forms with different strategies, which allow to enable PPP AR for Global Positioning System (GPS) and Galileo or BeiDou Navigation System (BDS). To give a full evaluation of PPP AR performance with various products, this work comprehensively investigates the positioning performance of GPS-only and multi-GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) combination PPP AR with the precise products from CNES, SGG, CODE, and PRIDE Lab using our in-house software. The positioning performance in terms of positioning accuracy, convergence time and fixing rate (FR) as well as time to first fix (TTFF), was assessed by static and kinematic PPP AR models. For GPS-only, combined GPS and Galileo PPP AR with different products, the positioning performances were all comparable with each other. Concretely, the static positioning errors can be reduced by 21.0% (to 0.46 cm), 52.5% (to 0.45 cm), 10.0% (to 1.33 cm) and 21.7% (to 0.33 cm), 47.4% (to 0.34 cm), 9.5% (to 1.16 cm) for GPS-only and GE combination in north, east, up component, respectively, while the reductions are 20.8% (to 1.13 cm), 42.9% (to 1.15 cm), 19.9% (to 3.4 cm) and 20.4% (to 0.72 cm), 44.1% (to 0.66 cm), 10.1% (to 2.44 cm) for kinematic PPP AR. Overall, the positioning performance with CODE products was superior to the others. Furthermore, multi-GNSS observations had significant improvements in PPP performance with float solutions and the TTFF as well as the FR of GPS PPP AR could be improved by adding observations from other GNSS. Precise point positioning with ambiguity resolution (PPP-AR) based on multiple global navigation satellite system (multi-GNSS) constellations is an important high-precision positioning tool. However, some unmodeled satellite and receiver biases (such as errors in satellite attitude) make it difficult to fix carrier-phase ambiguities. In order to fix ambiguities of eclipsing satellites, accurate integer clock and satellite attitude products (i.e., attitude quaternion) have been provided by the International GNSS Service (IGS). Nevertheless, the quality of these products and their positioning performance in multi-GNSS PPP-AR have not been investigated yet. Using the PRIDE PPP-AR II software associated with the corresponding rapid satellite orbit, integer clock and attitude quaternion products of Wuhan University (WUM), we carried out GPS/BDS PPP-AR using 30 days of data in an eclipsing season of 2020. We found that about 75% of GPS, 60% of BDS-2 and 57% of BDS-3 narrow-lane ambiguity residuals after integer clock corrections fall within ±0.1 cycles in the case of using nominal attitudes. However, when using attitude quaternions, these percentages will rise to 80% for GPS, 70% for BDS-2 and 60% for BDS-3. GPS/BDS daily kinematic PPP-AR after integer clock and nominal attitude corrections can usually achieve a positioning precision of about 10, 10 and 30 mm for the east, north and up components, respectively. In contrast, the counterparts are 8, 8 and 20 mm when using attitude quaternions. Compared with the case of using attitude quaternions only at the network end for the integer clock estimation, using attitude quaternions only at the user end shows a pronounced improvement of 15% in the east component and less than 10% in the north and up components. Therefore, we suggest PPP users apply integer clock and satellite attitude quaternion products to realize more efficient ambiguity fixing, especially in satellite eclipsing seasons. In this study, an uncombined precise point positioning (PPP) model was established and was used for estimating fractional cycle bias (FCB) products and for achieving ambiguity resolution (AR), using GPS, BDS-2, and Galileo raw observations. The uncombined PPP model is flexible and efficient for positioning services and generating FCB. The FCBs for GPS, BDS-2, and Galileo were estimated using the uncombined PPP model with observations from the Multi-GNSS Experiment (MGEX) stations. The root mean squares (RMSs) of the float ambiguity a posteriori residuals associated with all of the three GNSS constellations, i.e., GPS, BDS-2, and Galileo, are less than 0.1 cycles for both narrow-lane (NL) and wide-lane (WL) combinations. The standard deviation (STD) of the WL combination FCB series is 0.015, 0.013, and 0.006 cycles for GPS, BDS-2, and Galileo, respectively, and the counterpart for the NL combination FCB series is 0.030 and 0.0184 cycles for GPS and Galileo, respectively. For the BDS-2 NL combination FCB series, the STD of the inclined geosynchronous orbit (IGSO) satellites is 0.0156 cycles, while the value for the medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites is 0.073 cycles. The AR solutions produced by the uncombined multi-GNSS PPP model were evaluated from the positioning biases and the success fixing rate of ambiguity. The experimental results demonstrate that the growth of the amount of available satellites significantly improves the PPP performance. The three-dimensional (3D) positioning accuracies associated with the PPP ambiguity-fixed solutions for the respective only-GPS, GPS/BDS-2, GPS/Galileo, and GPS/BDS-2/Galileo models are 1.34, 1.19, 1.21, and 1.14 cm, respectively, and more than a 30% improvement is achieved when compared to the results related to the ambiguity-float solutions. Additionally, the convergence time based on the GPS/BDS-2/Galileo observations is only 7.5 min for the ambiguity-fixed solutions, and the results exhibit a 53% improvement in comparison to the ambiguity-float solutions. The values of convergence time based on the only-GPS observations are estimated as 22 and 10.5 min for the ambiguity-float and ambiguity-fixed solutions, respectively. Lastly, the success fixing rate of ambiguity is also dramatically raised for the multi-GNSS PPP AR. For example, the percentage is approximately 99% for the GPS/BDS-2/Galileo solution over a 10 min processing period. In addition, the inter-system bias (ISB) between GPS, BDS-2, and Galileo, which is carefully considered in the uncombined multi-GNSS PPP method, is modeled as a white noise process. The differences of the ISB series between BDS-2 and Galileo indicate that the clock datum bias of the satellite clock offset estimation accounts for the variation of the ISB series. Precise point positioning (PPP) has been used for decades not only for general positioning needs but also for geodetic and other scientific applications. The CNES-CLS Analysis Centre (AC) of the International GNSS Service (IGS) is performing PPP with phase ambiguity resolution (PPP-AR) using the zero-difference ambiguity fixing approach also known as "Integer PPP" (IPPP). In this paper we examine the postprocessed kinematic PPP and PPP-AR using Galileo-only, GPS-only and Multi-GNSS (GPS + Galileo) constellations. The interest is to examine the accuracy for each GNSS system individually but also of their combination to measure the current benefits of using Galileo within a Multi-GNSS PPP and PPP-AR. Results show that Galileo-only positioning is nearly at the same level as GPS-only; around 2–4 mm horizontal and aound 10 mm vertical repeatability (example station of BRUX). In addition, the use of Galileo system—even uncompleted—improves the performance of the positioning when combined with GPS giving mm level repeatability (improvement of around 30% in East, North and Up components). Repeatabilities observed for Multi-GNSS (GPS + GAL) PPP-AR, taking into account the global network statistics, are a little larger, with 8 mm in horizontal and 17 mm in vertical directions. In multi-GNSS cases, two types of Double Difference (DD) ambiguity could be formed including an intra-system ambiguity and an inter-system ambiguity, which are identified as the DD ambiguity between satellites from the same and from different GNSS systems, respectively. We studied the relative positioning methods using intra-system DD observations and using Un-Difference (UD) observations, and developed a frequency-free approach for fixing inter-system ambiguity based on UD observations for multi-GNSS positioning, where the inter-system phase bias is calculated with the help of a fixed Single-Difference (SD) ambiguity. The consistency between the receiver-end uncalibrated phase delays (RUPD) and the SD ambiguity were investigated and the positioning performance of this new approach was assessed. The results show that RUPD could be modeled as a constant if the receiver were tracking satellites continuously. Furthermore, compared to the method using DD observations with only an intra-system DD ambiguity fixed, the new ambiguity fixing approach has a better performance, especially in hard environments with a large cut-off angle or serve signal obstructions.
