Currently, there is a wealth of data and expert knowledge available on monitoring agro-meteorological disasters. However, there is still a lack of technical means to organically integrate and analyze heterogeneous data sources in a collaborative manner. This paper proposes a method for monitoring agro-meteorological disasters based on a spatio-temporal knowledge graph. It employs a semantic ontology framework to achieve the organic fusion of multi-source heterogeneous data, including remote sensing data, meteorological data, farmland data, crop information, etc. And it formalizes expert knowledge and computational models into knowledge inference rules, thereby enabling monitoring, early warning, and disaster analysis of agricultural crops within the observed area. The experimental area for this research is the wheat planting region in three counties in Henan Province. The method is tested using simulation monitoring, early warning, and impact calculation of the past two occurrences of dry hot wind disasters. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can provide more specific and accurate warning information and post-disaster analysis results compared to raw records. The statistical results of NDVI decline also validate the correlation between the severity of wheat damage caused by dry hot winds and the intensity and duration of their occurrences. Regarding remote sensing data, this paper proposes a method that directly incorporates remote sensing data into spatio-temporal knowledge inference calculations. By integrating remote sensing data into the regular monitoring process, the advantages of remote sensing data granted by continuous observation are utilized. Comprehending the spatiotemporal dynamics and driving factors of small and micro wetlands (SMWs) holds paramount significance in their conservation and sustainable development. This paper investigated the spatiotemporal evolution and driving mechanisms of SMWs in the Yellow River Basin, utilizing buffer zones, overlay analysis, and the Geodetector model based on Landsat satellite images and an open-surface water body dataset from 1990 to 2020. The results revealed that (1) from 1990 to 2020, SMWs in the Yellow River Basin exhibited an overall pattern of fluctuation reduction. The total area decreased by approximately 1.12 × 105 hm2, with the predominant decline occurring in the 0–1 hm2 and 1–3 hm2 size categories. In terms of spatial distribution, SMWs in Qinghai and Gansu decreased significantly, while the SMWs in Inner Mongolia, Henan, and Shandong gradually increased. (2) From 1990 to 2020, SMWs were mostly converted into grassland and cropland, with some transformed into impervious water surface and barren, and only a small percentage converted into other land types in the Yellow River basin. (3) The alterations in SMWs were influenced by factors, with their interplay exhibiting nonlinear or bilinear enhancement. Among these factors, annual precipitation, elevation, and potential evapotranspiration were the primary natural factors influencing the changes in the distribution of SMWs. This paper utilizes high-resolution ERA5 hourly data from 1980 to 2020 and long-term normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) time series obtained from remote sensing and applies trend analysis, correlation analysis, lag analysis, and other methods to study the spatiotemporal characteristics of extreme rainfall at daily and hourly scales in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain. The paper explores the NDVI's variability and its relationship with extreme hourly precipitation and analyzes the main factors affecting it. The study made the following observations: (1) The extreme daily precipitation in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain shows a decreasing trend, with a 13.6 mm/yr reduction rate. In contrast, the proportion of extreme rainfall to total precipitation generally exceeds 20%, and the intensity of extreme rain has gradually increased. The spatial distribution pattern of extreme rainfall follows the distribution pattern of China's rain belts, with the terrain being an important influencing factor. The high-incidence areas for extreme rainfall are the Huaihe River region and the Shandong Peninsula. (2) The observed significant increase in hourly extreme precipitation events in the Shandong and Henan provinces of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain has led to an increased risk of flooding, while the corresponding events in the northwest region of the Plain have exhibited a gradual weakening trend over time. (3) The extreme hourly precipitation in the Huang-Huai-Hai plain shows a frequent and scattered pattern, with decreasing intensity over time. Extreme precipitation mainly occurs in the first half of the night, especially between 19:00 and 21:00, with extreme hourly rainfall intensity fluctuating between 0.2 and 0.25 and the proportion of rainfall to total precipitation reaching as high as 10%. The spatial distribution of extreme hourly rainstorms during the peak period (19:00–21:00) exhibits a high rainfall volume, intensity, and frequency pattern in the eastern region, while the western part exhibits low rainfall volume, intensity, and frequency. (4) The incidence of extremely heavy rainfall in an hour has exhibited a more significant increase compared to extreme daily events in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, primarily in the form of backward-type precipitation. Hourly extreme precipitation events in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain are affected by terrain and land use/cover change (LUCC), with the micro-topography of hilly areas leading to a concentrated distribution of precipitation and LUCC suppressing extreme precipitation events in arid climates. (5) At the ten-day scale, the spatial distribution of the NDVI shows a gradually increasing trend from northwest to southeast, with the highest NDVI value reaching up to 0.6 in the southern part of the study area. For extreme hourly precipitation, there is no significant change observed at the multi-year ten-day scale; while the NDVI in the northern and central parts of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain shows a significant decreasing trend, in contrast, it presents a significant increasing trend in the southern region. (6) Finally, the correlation between NDVI at the ten-day scale and extreme hourly precipitation exhibits a decreasing pattern from north to south, with a correlation coefficient decreasing from 0.48 to 0.08. The lagged correlation analysis of extreme hourly rainfall and NDVI for one, two, and three ten-day periods shows that the lagged effect of extreme hourly precipitation on NDVI is negligible. Analyzing the correlation between extreme hourly rainfall and NDVI for different months, the impact of extreme hourly precipitation on NDVI is predominantly negative, except for June, which shows a positive correlation (0.35), passing the significance test. Regional land-use change is the leading cause of ecosystem carbon stock change; it is essential to investigate the response of LUCC to carbon stock to achieve the strategic goal of "double carbon" in a region. This paper proposes a residual network algorithm, the Residual Multi-module Fusion Network (R-MFNet), to address the problems of blurred feature boundary information, low classification accuracy, and high noise, which are often encountered in traditional classification methods. The network algorithm uses an R-ASPP module to expand the receptive field of the feature map to extract sufficient and multi-scale target features; it uses the attention mechanism to assign weights to the multi-scale information of each channel and space. It can fully preserve the remote sensing image features extracted by the convolutional layer through the residual connection. Using this classification network method, the classification of three Landsat-TM/OLI images of Zhengzhou City (the capital of Henan Province) from 2001 to 2020 was realized (the years that the three images were taken are 2001, 2009, and 2020). Compared with SVM, 2D-CNN, and deep residual networks (ResNet), the overall accuracy of the test dataset is increased by 10.07%, 3.96%, and 1.33%, respectively. The classification achieved using this method is closer to the real land surface, and its accuracy is higher than that of the finished product data obtained using the traditional classification method, providing high-precision land-use classification data for the subsequent carbon storage estimation research. Based on the land-use classification data and the carbon density data corrected by meteorological data (temperature and precipitation data), the InVEST model is used to analyze the land-use change and its impact on carbon storage in the region. The results showed that, from 2001 to 2020, the carbon stock in the study area showed a downward trend, with a total decrease of 1.48 × 10 7 t. Over the course of this 19-year period, the farmland area in Zhengzhou decreased by 1101.72 km 2 , and the built land area increased sharply by 936.16 km 2 . The area of land transfer accounted for 29.26% of the total area of Zhengzhou City from 2001 to 2009, and 31.20% from 2009 to 2020. The conversion of farmland to built land is the primary type of land transfer and the most important reason for decreasing carbon stock. The research results can provide support, in the form of scientific data, for land-use management decisions and carbon storage function protections in Zhengzhou and other cities around the world undergoing rapid urbanization. Crop-type mapping is the foundation of grain security and digital agricultural management. Accuracy, efficiency and large-scale scene consistency are required to perform crop classification from remote sensing images. Many current remote-sensing crop extraction methods based on deep learning cannot account for adaptation effects in large-scale, complex scenes. Therefore, this study proposes a novel adaptive feature-fusion network for crop classification using single-temporal Sentinel-2 images. The selective patch module implemented in the network can adaptively integrate the features of different patch sizes to assess complex scenes better. TabNet was used simultaneously to extract spectral information from the center pixels of the patches. Multitask learning was used to supervise the extraction process to improve the weight of the spectral characteristics while mitigating the negative impact of a small sample size. In the network, superpixel optimization was applied to post-process the classification results to improve the crop edges. By conducting the crop classification of peanut, rice, and corn based on Sentinel-2 images in 2022 in Henan Province, China, the novel method proposed in this paper was more accurate, indicated by an F1 score of 96.53%, than other mainstream methods. Flood hazards resulting from short-term severe precipitation have caused serious social and economic losses and have posed extraordinary threats to the safety of lives and property. Vulnerability, which reflects the degree of the adverse impact of flooding on a city, the sensitivity of the environment, and the extent to which rescues are possible during flooding, is one of the significant factors of the disaster risk assessment. Because of this, this paper proposes an Environmental Vulnerability Analysis Model (EVAM), based on comprehensively evaluating multi-source remote sensing data. The EVAM includes a two-stage, short-term flood vulnerability assessment. In the first stage, the flood's areal extension and land-use classification are extracted, based on the U-NET++ network, using multi-source satellite remote sensing images. The results from the first stage are used in the second stage of vulnerability assessment. In the second stage, combining multi-source data with associated feature extraction results establishes the Exposure–Sensitivity–Adaptive capacity framework. The short-term flood vulnerability index is leveraged through the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the entropy method is calculated for an environmental vulnerability evaluation. This novel proposed framework for short-term flood vulnerability evaluation is demonstrated for the Henan Province. The experimental results show that the proportion of vulnerable cities in the Henan Province ranging from high to low is 22.22%, 22.22%, 38.89%, and 16.67%, respectively. The relevant conclusions can provide a scientific basis for regional flood control and risk management as well as corresponding data support for post-disaster reconstruction in disaster regions. Numerical weather prediction (NWP) has become an important method of predicting extreme weather events, but orography is one of the key factors affecting the performance of NWPs. In this paper, based on Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) elevation data, a method for constructing a global orographic dataset suitable for NWP spectral models is investigated. The Yin-He global spectrum model (YHGSM) is used to simulate the early and peak periods of the extreme rainfall event on 20 July 2021 in Henan Province, China, and the heavy rain in Beijing in order to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed orographic construction method. It is demonstrated that in a few cases the direct two-dimensional filter can sometimes simulate more intense rainfall, but in general, the bidirectional one-dimensional filter is better than the direct two-dimensional filter in orographic processing, and the bidirectional one-dimensional filter can filter out more of the small-scale orographic information. The effect of the higher orographic resolution before conversion to spectral space is not very obvious, but it is demonstrated that the simulation results are better for the heavy-rainfall level. In conclusion, in most cases, the simulations conducted using the new global orographic dataset based on ASTER data are better than those obtained using the model's original orography, especially for torrential and extreme rainfall. Accurate urban boundary data can directly reflect the expansion of urban space, help us accurately grasp the scale and form of urban space, and play a vital role in urban land development and policy-making. However, the lack of reliable multiscale and high-precision urban boundary data products and relevant training datasets has become one of the major factors hindering their application. The purpose of this study is to combine Sentinel-2 remote-sensing images and supplementary geographic data to generate a reliable high-precision urban boundary dataset for Henan Province (called HNUB2018). First, this study puts forward a clear definition of "urban boundary". Using this concept as its basis, it proposes a set of operable urban boundary delimitation rules and technical processes. Then, based on Sentinel-2 remote-sensing images and supplementary geographic data, the urban boundaries of Henan Province are delimited by a visual interpretation method. Finally, the applicability of the dataset is verified by using a classical semantic segmentation deep learning model. The results show that (1) HNUB2018 has clear and rich detailed features as well as a detailed spatial structure of urban boundaries. The overall accuracy of HNUB2018 is 92.82% and the kappa coefficient reaches 0.8553, which is better than GUB (Henan) in overall accuracy. (2) HNUB2018 is well suited for deep learning, with excellent reliability and scientific validity. The research results of this paper can provide data support for studies of urban sprawl monitoring and territorial spatial planning, and will support the development of reliable datasets for fields such as intelligent mapping of urban boundaries, showing prospects and possibilities for wide application in urban research. The Yellow River Basin (YB) acts as a key barrier to ecological security and is an important experimental region for high-quality development in China. There is a growing demand to assess the ecological status in order to promote the sustainable development of the YB. The eco-environmental quality (EEQ) of the YB was assessed at both the regional and provincial scales utilizing the remote sensing-based ecological index (RSEI) with Landsat images from 2000 to 2020. Then, the Theil–Sen (T-S) estimator and Mann–Kendall (M-K) test were utilized to evaluate its variation trend. Next, the optimal parameter-based geodetector (OPGD) model was used to examine the drivers influencing the EEQ in the YB. Finally, the geographically weighted regression (GWR) model was utilized to further explore the responses of the drivers to RSEI changes. The results suggest that (1) a lower RSEI value was found in the north, while a higher RSEI value was found in the south of the YB. Sichuan (SC) and Inner Mongolia (IM) had the highest and the lowest EEQ, respectively, among the YB provinces. (2) Throughout the research period, the EEQ of the YB improved, whereas it deteriorated in both Henan (HA) and Shandong (SD) provinces. (3) The soil-available water content (AWC), annual precipitation (PRE), and distance from impervious surfaces (IMD) were the main factors affecting the spatial differentiation of RSEI in the YB. (4) The influence of meteorological factors (PRE and TMP) on RSEI changes was greater than that of IMD, and the influence of IMD on RSEI changes showed a significant increasing trend. Floods are among the most serious natural disasters worldwide; they cause enormous crop losses every year and threaten world food security. Many studies have focused on flood impact assessments for administrative districts, but fewer have focused on postdisaster impact assessments for specific crops. Therefore, this study used remote sensing data, including the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), elevation data, slope data, and precipitation data, combined with crop growth period data to construct a crop flood damage assessment index (CFAI). First, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to assign weights to the impact parameters; then, the Weighted Composite Score Method was used to calculate the CFAI; and finally, the impact was classified as sub-slight, slight, moderate, sub-severe, or severe based on the magnitude of the CFAI. This method was used for the Missouri River floods of 2019 in the United States and the Henan flood of 2021 in China. Due to the lack of measured data, the disaster vegetation damage index (DVDI) was used to compare the results. Compared with the DVDI, the CFAI underestimated the evaluation results. Crop mapping using satellite imagery is crucial for agriculture applications. However, a fundamental challenge that hinders crop mapping progress is the scarcity of samples. The latest foundation model, Segment Anything Model (SAM), provides an opportunity to address this issue, yet few studies have been conducted in this area. This study investigated the parcel segmentation performance of SAM on commonly used medium-resolution satellite imagery (i.e., Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8) and proposed a novel automated sample generation framework based on SAM. The framework comprises three steps. First, an image optimization automatically selects high-quality images as the inputs for SAM. Then, potential samples are generated based on the masks produced by SAM. Finally, the potential samples are subsequently subjected to a sample cleaning procedure to acquire the most reliable samples. Experiments were conducted in Henan Province, China, and southern Ontario, Canada, using six proven effective classifiers. The effectiveness of our method is demonstrated through the combination of field-survey-collected samples and differently proportioned generated samples. Our results indicated that directly using SAM for parcel segmentation remains challenging, unless the parcels are large, regular in shape, and have distinct color differences from surroundings. Additionally, the proposed approach significantly improved the performance of classifiers and alleviated the sample scarcity problem. Compared to classifiers trained only by field-survey-collected samples, our method resulted in an average improvement of 16% and 78.5% in Henan and Ontario, respectively. The random forest achieved relatively good performance, with weighted-average F1 of 0.97 and 0.996 obtained using Sentinel-2 imagery in the two study areas, respectively. Soil moisture (SM) is a crucial environmental variable, and it plays an important role in energy and water cycles. SM data retrieval based on microwave satellite remote sensing has garnered significant attention due to its spatial continuity, wide observational coverage, and relatively low cost. Validating the accuracy of satellite remote sensing SM products is a critical step in enhancing data credibility, which plays a vital role in ensuring the effective application of satellite remote sensing data across various fields. Firstly, this study focused on Henan Province and evaluated the accuracy of the SMAP Enhanced L3 Radiometer Global and Polar Grid Daily 9 km EASE-Grid Soil Moisture (SPL3SMP_E) product along with its application in agriculture. The evaluation was based on in situ SM data from 55 stations in Henan Province. The assessment metrics used in this study include mean difference (MD), root mean square error (RMSE), unbiased root mean square error (ubRMSE), and the Pearson correlation coefficient (R). The time span of this study is from 2017 to 2020. The evaluation results indicated that the SPL3SMP_E soil moisture product performs well, as reflected by an ubRMSE value of 0.045 (m3/m3), which was relatively close to the product's design accuracy of 0.04 (m3/m3). Moreover, the accuracy of the product was unaffected by temporal factors, but the product exhibited strong spatial aggregation, which was closely related to land use types. Then, this study explored the response of the SPL3SMP_E product to irrigation signals. The precipitation and irrigation data from Henan Province were employed to investigate the response of the SPL3SMP_E soil moisture product to irrigation. Our findings revealed that the SPL3SMP_E soil moisture product was capable of capturing over 70% of irrigation events in the study area, indicating its high sensitivity to irrigation signals in this region. In this study, the SPL3SMP_E product was also employed for monitoring agricultural drought in Henan Province. The findings revealed that the collaborative use of the SPL3SMP_E soil moisture product and machine learning algorithms proves highly effective in monitoring significant drought events. Furthermore, the integration of multiple indices demonstrated a notable enhancement in the accuracy of drought monitoring. Drought is a frequent global phenomenon. Solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF), an electromagnetic signal, has been proven to be an efficient tool for monitoring and assessing gross primary productivity (GPP) and drought. To address the issue of the sparse resolution of satellite-based SIF, researchers have developed different downscaling algorithms. Recently, the most frequently used SIF products had a spatial resolution of 0.05 degrees. However, these spatial resolution SIF data are not conducive to regional agricultural drought monitoring. In this study, we utilized the global 'OCO-2' solar-induced fluorescence (GOSIF) products along with normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and land surface temperature (LST) products. With the powerful advantages offered by Google Earth Engine (GEE), we could conveniently acquire the necessary data. Additionally, employing the random forest (RF) method, we successfully acquired downscaled SIF data at an enhanced spatial resolution of 1 km. Using those downscaled SIF results with 1 km resolution, an SIF anomaly index was established and calculated to monitor drought. Results showed that the RF-based downscaled SIF result followed the same trend as the GOSIF value. Subsequently, correlation coefficients between SIF and GPP were calculated. The downscaled SIF demonstrated a higher correlation with GPP from MODIS compared to 0.05-degree GOSIF, with coefficients of 0.74 and 0.68 in May 2018, respectively. Moreover, the SIF anomaly index showed positive correlations with crop yield; the correlation coefficients were 0.93 for wheat and 0.89 for maize. The drought index had a negative correlation with areas affected by drought, with a correlation coefficient of −0.58. Finally, the SIF anomaly index was used to monitor drought from 2001 to 2020 in Henan Province. The 1 km SIF results obtained through the RF-based downscaled method were deemed reliable, thereby establishing the suitability of the SIF anomaly index for drought monitoring at a regional scale. From 17 to 22 July 2021, the "21·7" extreme rainfall event ("21·7" ERE) hit Henan Province, breaking the record for mainland China with a maximum hourly rainfall of 201.9 mm at the Zhengzhou station. The long-lived (20 h) mesoscale Huang-Huai vortex (HHV) was an important system that directly affected the major rainfall stage, including the extreme hourly rainfall. This study investigates the formation and development mechanism of the HHV, as well as its association with the simulation of extreme hourly rainfall through numerical simulations. The simulated rainfall and radar composite reflectivity were in good agreement with the observations, thus effectively reproducing the generation and developmental process of the HHV. The analysis results showed that the HHV initially formed at 850 hPa on 19 July at 1800 UTC and eventually developed to 550 hPa. The positive feedback formed by the horizontal convergence and vertical vorticity transport was the main mechanism leading to the generation and deepening of the HHV. The stretching effect (STR) term played an absolutely dominant role in the increase in the vorticity tendency, and it primarily originated from the coupling effect of boundary layer jets (BLJs) and synoptic-weather-system-related low-level jets (SLLJs). The accurate simulation of the HHV allowed the early rainfall to reasonably reproduce the surface cold pool near the Zhengzhou station, and then the cooperation of the SLLJs, the BLJs, and the cold pool made the simulated extreme hourly rainfall exactly close to the Zhengzhou station, but with a weaker intensity, due to the fact that the HHV moved northeastward after its formation, resulting in a narrow range of southerly flow in southern Henan, which is not conducive to convective triggering in the southerly flow. Precipitation products play an important role in monitoring rainstorm processes. This study takes a rare historical event of extreme, heavy precipitation that occurred in Henan Province, China, in July 2021 as a research case. By analyzing the distribution of the spatial and temporal characteristics of precipitation errors, using a probability density function of the occurrence of precipitation and the daily variation pattern, we assess the capability of a radar precipitation estimation product (RADAR), satellite precipitation products (IMERG and GSMAP), a reanalysis product (ERA5) and a precipitation fusion product (the CMPAS) to monitor an extreme rainstorm in the Henan region. The CMPAS has the best fit with the gauge observations in terms of the precipitation area, precipitation maximum and the evolution of the whole process, with a low spatial variability of errors. However, the CMPAS slightly underestimated the precipitation extremum at the peak moment (06:00–08:00). The RADAR product was prone to a spurious overestimation of the originally small rainfall, especially during peak precipitation times, with deviations concentrated in the core precipitation area. The IMERG, GSMAP and ERA5 products have similar performances, all of which failed to effectively capture heavy precipitation in excess of 60 mm/h, with negative deviations in precipitation at mountainfront locations west of northern Henan Province. There is still a need for terrain-specific error revisions for areas with large topographic relief. By merging and processing precipitation data from multiple sources, the accuracy of the CMPAS is better than any single-source precipitation product. The CMPAS has the characteristic advantage of high spatial and temporal resolutions (0.01° × 0.01°/1 h), which play a positive role in precipitation dynamic monitoring, providing early warnings of heavy rainfall processes and hydrological application research. Irrigation has excellent potential for altering surface characteristics and the local climate. Although studies using site observations or remote sensing data have demonstrated an irrigation cooling effect (ICE) on the air temperature (Tem) and land surface temperature (LST), it is difficult to eliminate other stress factors due to different backgrounds. We characterized the irrigation effect as the differences (Δ) of LST and DCT (DCT = LST − Tem) between irrigated and adjacent non-irrigated areas. An improved method was proposed to detect it over the North China Plain (NCP) based on satellite observations. We also investigated the effects of irrigation on Tem, precipitation, NDVI, and ET, and explored the relationships between them. The results show that irrigation induced a decrease in the daytime/nighttime LST and DCT (−0.13/−0.09 and −0.14/−0.07 °C yr−1), Tem (−0.023 °C in spring), and precipitation (−1.461 mm yr−1), and an increase in NDVI (0.03 in spring) and ET (0.289 mm yr−1) across the NCP. The effect on nighttime LST and NDVI increased by 0.04 °C 10 yr−1 and 0.003 10 yr−1, and that on ET weakened by 0.23 mm 10 yr−1 during 2000–2015. The ICE on the LST had evident spatiotemporal heterogeneity, which was greater in the daytime, in the spring, and in the northern area of the NCP (dry–hot conditions). The daytime ICE in the NCP and northern NCP was 0.37 and 0.50 °C during spring, respectively, with the strongest ICE of 0.60 °C in Henan; however, the ICE was less evident (<0.1 °C) in the southern NCP throughout the year. The ΔNDVI, ΔET, and ΔTem were the main factors driving ICE, explaining approximatively 22%, 45%, and 25% of the daytime ICE, respectively. For every unit of these measures that was increased, the daytime ICE increased by about 7.3, 4.6, and 1.5 °C, respectively. This study highlights the broad irrigation effect on LST, ET, NDVI, and the climate, and provides important information for predicting climate change in the future. It is of great significance to explore the spatial and temporal evolution of soil and rockfill dam deformation, ensuring the safety of people's lives and healthy economic development. The spatial and temporal evolution patterns of deformation of 17 large soil and rockfill dams in Henan Province were analyzed by using the PS-InSAR technique and 55 Sentinel-1A images from March 2017 to September 2021. Based on factors such as reservoir water level and rainfall, a series of analyses were conducted on the Xiaolangdi soil and rockfill dam, which has the highest dam height and the most prominent deformation problem. The monitoring results show that all the soil and rockfill dams in Henan Province have different degrees of deformation, and there is a close relationship between dam height and deformation. In addition, the deformation rate of the Xiaolangdi soil and rockfill dam in the past five years presents a "Stepped Shape" deformation trend from the top to the bottom of the dam. The deformation of the upper, middle, and lower parts of the dam body reaches 80 mm, 40 mm, and 20 mm, respectively, among which the middle part of the dam crest has the largest deformation. Furthermore, the time series prediction model for sparrow search algorithm Long Short-Term Memory considering the moving average filter (MAF-SSA-LSTM) is proposed to predict and accurately analyze the future deformation of Xiaolangdi soil and rockfill dam with RMSE of 1.526 mm, MAE of 1.447 mm, and MAPE of 2.22%, which proved that the model has high prediction accuracy. It can truly reflect the overall deformation trend of the dam body. One of the important tasks of the Chinese geostationary and meteorological satellite Fengyun-2 (FY2) series is to provide quantitative precipitation estimates (QPE) with high spatiotemporal resolutions for East Asia. To analyze the monitoring capabilities of FY2-based QPEs in extreme rainfall events, this study comprehensively evaluated and compared the performances of FY-2G and FY-2H QPEs for the "7.20" rainstorm in Henan province, China from 17 July 2021 to 22 July 2021. Three continuous metrics and three categorical metrics were adopted to assess the accuracies of FY-2G and FY-2H QPEs, referenced by gauge observations from 116 meteorological stations. The results show that the FY-2G QPE has lower BIAS (−9.64% for FY-2G, −46.22% for FY-2H) and RMSE (5.83 mm/h for FY-2G, 8.4 mm/h for FY-2H) and higher CC (0.57 for FY-2G, 0.24 for FY-2H) than FY-2H QPE in this rainstorm event. Moreover, the FY-2G QPE is not only more consistent with the ground reference with respect to the rainfall amount, but also has higher detecting capability in the "7.20" rainstorm event when compared with the FY-2H QPE. The FY-2G QPE presented a higher capability to correctly capture the precipitation event for the "7.20" rainstorm because of higher POD (probability of detection) and CSI (critical success index) relative to FY-2H QPE, especially in complex topography. From the spatial distribution of precipitation amount, the FY-2G QPE captured the rainstorm center of extreme precipitation more accurately relative to the latest FY-2H product. On the other hand, the previous generation of FY-2G QPE was closer to the continuous rainfall process and precipitation duration with ground observations than the latest FY-2H QPE. Therefore, the precipitation retrieval algorithm of FY-2H QPE still had room to improve. In July 2021, a flooding event, which attracted the attention of the whole country and even the world, broke out in Henan, resulting in dramatic losses across multiple fields (e.g., economic and agricultural). The basin at the junction of Hebi, Xinxiang, and Anyang was the most affected region, as the spread of water from the Wei river submerged surrounding agricultural land (e.g., corn-dominated). To comprehensively evaluate the flooding impacts, we proposed a framework to detect the flooding area and evaluated the degree of loss using satellite time series data. First, we proposed a double-Gaussian model to adaptively determine the threshold for flooding extraction using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data. Then, we evaluated the disaster levels of flooding with field survey samples and optical satellite images. Finally, given that crops vary in their resilience to flooding, we measured the vegetation index change before and after the flooding event using satellite time series data. We found the proposed double-Gaussian model could accurately extract the flooding area, showing great potential to support in-time flooding evaluation. We also showed that the multispectral satellite images could potentially support the classification of disaster levels (i.e., normal, slight, moderate, and severe), with an overall accuracy of 88%. Although these crops were temporarily affected by this flooding event, most recovered soon, especially for the slightly and moderately affected regions. Overall, the distribution of resilience of these affected crops was basically in line with the results of classified disaster levels. The proposed framework provides a comprehensive aspect to the retrospective study of the flooding process on crops with diverse disaster levels and resilience. The collection of traditional administrative unit-based gross domestic product (GDP) data is time-consuming and laborious, and the data lacks accurate spatial information. Long-term series nighttime light (NTL) data can provide effective spatiotemporal GDP change information, which can be used to analyze economies' spatial distributions and development trends. In this study, we generated a spatial model of the relationship between NTL indices and GDP parameters, based on NPP-VIIRS-like NTL data for the period 2001 to 2020, conducted a multitemporal and multilevel connectivity analysis of the GDP spatialization data, and constructed a tree structure for horizontal and vertical analysis. Standard deviation ellipses and economic centers of the first-level economic connected components at the provincial and municipal levels were generated, and the economic center distribution range and development direction at the provincial and municipal levels were analyzed. The results show that GDP spatialization data, based on NPP-VIIRS-like NTL data, can intuitively reflect the GDP spatial distribution. In Henan Province, the economic levels of different regions vary, and the economic regions represented by Zhengzhou have developed rapidly, driving surrounding regional economic rapid development. On 20 July 2021, an extraordinary rainfall event occurred in Henan Province, China, resulting in heavy waterlogging, flooding, and hundreds of fatalities and causing considerable property damage. Because the damaged region was a major grain-producing region of China, assessing crop food production losses following this event is very important. Because the crop rotation production system is utilized in the region to accommodate two crops per year, it is very valuable to accurately identify the types of crops affected by the event and to assess the crop production losses separately; however, the results obtained using these methods are still inadequate. In this study, we used China's first commercial synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data source, named Hisea-1, together with other open-source and widely used remote sensing data (Sentinel-1 and Sentinel 2), to monitor this catastrophic flood. Both the modified normalized difference water index (MNDWI) and Sentinel-1 dual-polarized water index (SDWI) were calculated, and an unsupervised classification (k-means) method was adopted for rapid water body extraction. Based on time-series datasets synthesized from multiple sources, we obtained four flooding characteristics, including the flooded area, flood duration, and start and end times of flooding. Then, according to these characteristics, we conducted a more precise analysis of the damages to flooded farmlands. We used the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform to obtain normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) time-series data for the disaster year and normal years and overlaid the flooded areas to extract the effects of flooding on crop species. According to the statistics from previous years, we calculated the areas and types of damaged crops and the yield reduction amounts. Our results showed that (1) the study area endured two floods in July and September of 2021; (2) the maximum areas affected by these two flooding events were 380.2 km2 and 215.6 km2, respectively; (3) the floods significantly affected winter wheat and summer grain (maize or soybean), affecting areas of 106.4 km2 and 263.3 km2, respectively; and (4) the crop production reductions in the affected area were 18,708 t for winter wheat and 160,000 t for maize or soybean. These findings indicate that the temporal-dimension information, as opposed to the traditional use of the affected area and the yield per unit area when estimating food losses, is very important for accurately estimating damaged crop types and yield reductions. Time-series remote sensing data, especially SAR remote sensing data, which have the advantage of penetrating clouds and rain, play an important role in remotely sensed disaster monitoring. Hisea-1 data, with a high spatial resolution and first flood-monitoring capabilities, show their value in this study and have the potential for increased usage in further studies, such as urban flooding research. A record-breaking extreme rainstorm occurred in Henan Province of China on 20 July 2021. To investigate the impacts of the Geostationary Interferometric Infrared Sounder (GIIRS) data assimilation on model analysis and forecasts of this rainfall event, the high temporal resolution GIIRS water vapor (WV) channel data were assimilated in the high-resolution CMA-MESO (Mesoscale Weather Numerical Forecast System of China Meteorological Administration) in this study. The results showed that the GIIRS WV radiance assimilation could improve the model WV analysis, which in turn adjusted the distributions of hydrometeors (radar composite reflectivities) and wind field, and finally improved the precipitation forecast. Additionally, although barely any GIIRS observations were assimilated over the cloudy area, the precipitation forecast errors of "21·7" extreme rainstorm events could be reduced by improving the structure of atmospheric circulations through the assimilation of neighboring data around Henan, especially over the upstream region. With the GIIRS WV data assimilation, the location error of maximum 24-h accumulated precipitation forecasts decreased from 128.48 km to 28.97 km (improved by 77.45%) for the cold start at 0000 UTC (Universal Time Coordinated) on 19 July 2021, and it was also reduced by about 60.52% for the warm start experiment at 0600 UTC on 19 July 2021. In addition, the GIIRS assimilation experiment showed an extraordinarily heavy rainfall area (above 250 mm/24 h) around Zhengzhou station, which did not appear in the control experiment, and was closer to the observed extreme precipitation. Continuous and accurate acquisitions of surface water distribution are important for water resources evaluation, especially high-precision flood monitoring. During surface water extraction, optical imagery is strongly affected by clouds, while synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery is easily influenced by numerous physical factors; thus, the water extraction method based on single-sensor imagery cannot obtain high-precision water range under multiple scenarios. Here, we integrated the radar backscattering coefficient of ground objects into the Normalized Difference Water Index to construct a novel SAR and Optical Imagery Water Index (SOWI), and the water ranges of five study areas were extracted. We compared two previous automatic extraction methods based on single-sensor imagery and evaluated the accuracy of the extraction results. Compared with using optical and SAR imagery alone, the accuracy of all five regions was improved by up to 1–18%. The fusion-derived products resulted in user accuracies ranging 95–99% and Kappa coefficients varying by 85–97%. SOWI was then applied to monitor the 2021 heavy rainfall-induced Henan Province flood disaster, obtaining a time-series change diagram of flood inundation range. Our results verify SOWI's continuous high-precision monitoring capability to accurately identify waterbodies beneath clouds and algal blooms. By reducing random noise, the defects of SAR are improved and the roughness of water boundaries is overcome. City classification can provide important data and technical support for city planning and government decision-making. Traditional city classification mainly relies on the accumulation and analysis of census data, which requires a large time period and relies heavily on historical and statistical data. This paper mainly utilizes Luojia I Night-Time Light (NTL) images to analyze the rank classification of cities in Henan Province, China. Intensity values can be expressed as the mathematical surface of continuous human activities, and the basic characteristics of urban structures are determined by analogy with the topography of the earth. A connectivity analysis method for NTL images is proposed to analyze the connected regions of images at different intensity levels. By constructing a tree structure, different cities can be analyzed "crosswise" and "lengthwise" to generate a series of parametric information from connected regions of NTL images. Based on these parameters, 18 cities in Henan Province were classified and analyzed. Frequent agricultural activities in farmland ecosystems bring challenges to crop information extraction from remote sensing (RS) imagery. The accurate spatiotemporal information of crops serves for regional decision support and ecological assessment, such as disaster monitoring and carbon sequestration. Most traditional machine learning algorithms are not appropriate for prediction classification due to the lack of historical ground samples and poor model transfer capabilities. Therefore, a transferable learning model including spatiotemporal capability was developed based on the UNet++ model by integrating feature fusion and upsampling of small samples for Sentinel-2A imagery. Classification experiments were conducted for 10 categories from 2019 to 2021 in Xinxiang City, Henan Province. The feature fusion and upsampling methods improved the performance of the UNet++ model, showing lower joint loss and higher mean intersection over union (mIoU) values. Compared with the UNet, DeepLab V3+, and the pyramid scene parsing network (PSPNet), the improved UNet++ model exhibits the best performance, with a joint loss of 0.432 and a mIoU of 0.871. Moreover, the overall accuracy and macro F1 values of prediction classification results based on the UNet++ model are higher than 83% and 58%, respectively. Based on the reclassification rules, about 3.48% of the farmland was damaged in 2021 due to continuous precipitation. The carbon sequestration of five crops (including corn, peanuts, soybean, rice, and other crops) is estimated, with a total carbon sequestration of 2460.56, 2549.16, and 1814.07 thousand tons in 2019, 2020, and 2021, respectively. The classification accuracy indicates that the improved model exhibits a better feature extraction and transferable learning capability in complex agricultural areas. Global Navigation Satellite System interferometric reflectometry (GNSS-IR), a new and inexpensive technique, has become available to the broader scientific community for detecting surface environmental information, such as soil moisture, snow depth and vegetation growth. However, there have been limited experiments focusing on the potential of crop height retrieval, especially the performance evaluation of BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) with other GNSS. Accuracy and reliability are challenging to achieve with traditional methods utilizing a single GNSS, and few measured verification data. In this study, an improved method that includes segmentation processing and multi-GNSS fusion is proposed based on GPS/GLONASS/Galileo/BDS multi-frequency data. Furthermore, experiments were carried out on a farmland in Fengqiu County, Henan Province, China. The results show that the height retrievals from four GNSS were in good agreement with the in situ observations during the whole growth cycle of the wheat after overwintering. Meanwhile, the retrievals based on the proposed method exhibited greater correspondence than the single frequency results, the correlation coefficient was increased and the root-mean-square error (RMSE) was reduced, respectively. Therefore, this study illustrates the feasibility of the proposed method to precisely estimate wheat height and its potential for use in the early warning of wheat lodging based on GNSS-IR. Drought-induced risk has attracted the attention of many scholars, but the risk of combined events caused by drought and high-temperature heat waves still needs further study. Based on MODIS products and meteorological data, the spatiotemporal variation characteristics of summer drought and high-temperature heat waves in the North China Plain from 2000 to 2018 were analyzed by the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI), crop water stress index (CWSI) and high-temperature threshold, and their combined-events risk was evaluated. The results showed that (1) from 2000 to 2018, summer drought in the North China Plain became more severe. Especially in Henan, Anhui and Jiangsu Provinces, drought increased significantly. (2) From 2000 to 2018, the frequency and intensity of high-temperature heat wave events in the North China Plain gradually increased at rates of 0.28 times/10 year and 1.6 °C/10 year, respectively. (3) The slightly high risk and high risk caused by summer drought were mainly distributed in Hebei Province and Tianjin Municipality in the north, and the risk change was characterized by a decrease in the north and an increase in the south. (4) The combined-events risk of summer drought and high-temperature heat waves did not increase significantly, with an increase rate of approximately 0.01/10 year. Among them, the increase rate of combined-events risk in Henan Province was the largest (0.14/10 year), followed by the obvious increase in northern Anhui, Jiangsu and southern Shandong, while the risk in Beijing showed a decreasing trend. Fine particulate matter (PM2.5) is a harmful air pollutant that seriously affects public health and sustainable urban development. Previous studies analyzed the spatial pattern and driving factors of PM2.5 concentrations in different regions. However, the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of various influencing factors on PM2.5 was ignored. This study applies the geographically and temporally weighted regression (GTWR) model and geographic information system (GIS) analysis methods to investigate the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of PM2.5 concentrations and the influencing factors in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River from 2000 to 2017. The findings indicate that: (1) the annual average of PM2.5 concentrations in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River show an overall trend of first rising and then decreasing from 2000 to 2017. In addition, there are significant differences in inter-province PM2.5 pollution in the study area, the PM2.5 concentrations of Tianjin City, Shandong Province, and Henan Province were far higher than the overall mean value of the study area. (2) PM2.5 concentrations in western cities showed a declining trend, while it had a gradually rising trend in the middle and eastern cities of the study area. Meanwhile, the PM2.5 pollution showed the characteristics of path dependence and region locking. (3) the PM2.5 concentrations had significant spatial agglomeration characteristics from 2000 to 2017. The "High-High (H-H)" clusters were mainly concentrated in the southern Hebei Province and the northern Henan Province, and the "Low-Low (L-L)" clusters were concentrated in northwest marginal cities in the study area. (4) The influencing factors of PM2.5 have significant spatiotemporal non-stationary characteristics, and there are obvious differences in the direction and intensity of socio-economic and natural factors. Overall, the variable of temperature is one of the most important natural conditions to play a positive impact on PM2.5, while elevation makes a strong negative impact on PM2.5. Car ownership and population density are the main socio-economic influencing factors which make a positive effect on PM2.5, while the variable of foreign direct investment (FDI) plays a strong negative effect on PM2.5. The results of this study are useful for understanding the spatiotemporal distribution characteristics of PM2.5 concentrations and formulating policies to alleviate haze pollution by policymakers in the Yellow River Basin. On-orbit geometric calibration is a key technology to guarantee the geometric quality of high-resolution optical satellite imagery. In this paper, we present an approach for the on-orbit geometric calibration of high-resolution optical satellite imagery, focusing on two core problems: constructing an on-orbit geometric calibration model and proposing a robust calculation method. First, a rigorous geometric imaging model is constructed based on the analysis of the major error sources. Second, we construct an on-orbit geometric calibration model through performing reasonable optimizing and parameter selection of the rigorous geometric imaging model. On this basis, the calibration parameters are partially calculated with a stepwise iterative method by dividing them into two groups: external and internal calibration parameters. Furthermore, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed calibration model and methodology, on-orbit geometric calibration experiments for ZY1-02C panchromatic camera and ZY-3 three-line array camera are conducted using the reference data of the Songshan calibration test site located in the Henan Province, China. The experimental results demonstrate a certain deviation of the on-orbit calibration result from the initial design values of the calibration parameters. Therefore, on-orbit geometric calibration is necessary for optical satellite imagery. On the other hand, by choosing multiple images, which cover different areas and are acquired at different points in time to verify their geometric accuracy before and after calibration, we find that after on-orbit geometric calibration, the geometric accuracy of these images without ground control points is significantly improved. Additionally, due to the effective elimination of the internal distortion of the camera, greater geometric accuracy was achieved with less ground control points than before calibration. The aim of this study was to explore the differences in the accuracy of winter wheat identification using remote sensing data at different growth stages using the same methods. Part of northern Henan Province, China was taken as the study area, and the winter wheat growth cycle was divided into five periods (seeding-tillering, overwintering, reviving, jointing-heading, and flowering-maturing) based on monitoring data obtained from agrometeorological stations. With the help of the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, the separability between winter wheat and other land cover types was analyzed and compared using the Jeffries-Matusita (J-M) distance method. Spectral features, vegetation index, water index, building index, texture features, and terrain features were generated from Sentinel-2 remote sensing images at different growth periods, and then were used to establish a random forest classification and extraction model. A deep U-Net semantic segmentation model based on the red, green, blue, and near-infrared bands of Sentinel-2 imagery was also established. By combining models with field data, the identification of winter wheat was carried out and the difference between the accuracy of the identification in the five growth periods was analyzed. The experimental results show that, using the random forest classification method, the best separability between winter wheat and the other land cover types was achieved during the jointing-heading period: the overall identification accuracy for the winter wheat was then highest at 96.90% and the kappa coefficient was 0.96. Using the deep-learning classification method, it was also found that the semantic segmentation accuracy of winter wheat and the model performance were best during the jointing-heading period: a precision, recall, F1 score, accuracy, and IoU of 0.94, 0.93, 0.93, and 0.88, respectively, were achieved for this period. Based on municipal statistical data for winter wheat, the accuracy of the extraction of the winter wheat area using the two methods was 96.72% and 88.44%, respectively. Both methods show that the jointing-heading period is the best period for identifying winter wheat using remote sensing and that the identification made during this period is reliable. The results of this study provide a scientific basis for accurately obtaining the area planted with winter wheat and for further studies into winter wheat growth monitoring and yield estimation. The timely and accurate acquisition of winter wheat acreage is crucial for food security. This study investigated the feasibility of extracting the spatial distribution map of winter wheat in Henan Province by using synthetic aperture radar (SAR, Sentinel-1A) and optical (Sentinel-2) images. Firstly, the SAR images were aggregated based on the growth period of winter wheat, and the optical images were aggregated based on the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer normalized difference vegetation index (MODIS-NDVI) curve. Then, five spectral features, two polarization features, and four texture features were selected as feature variables. Finally, the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud platform was employed to extract winter wheat acreage through the random forest (RF) algorithm. The results show that: (1) aggregated images based on the growth period of winter wheat and sensor characteristics can improve the mapping accuracy and efficiency; (2) the extraction accuracy of using only SAR images was improved with the accumulation of growth period. The extraction accuracy of using the SAR images in the full growth period reached 80.1%; and (3) the identification effect of integrated images was relatively good, which makes up for the shortcomings of SAR and optical images and improves the extraction accuracy of winter wheat. Flood is a kind of natural disaster that is extremely harmful and occurs frequently. To reduce losses caused by the hazards, it is urgent to monitor the disaster area timely and carry out rescue operations efficiently. However, conventional space observers cannot achieve sufficient spatiotemporal resolution. As spaceborne GNSS-R technique can observe the Earth's surface with high temporal and spatial resolutions; and it is expected to provide a new solution to the problem of flood hazards. During 19–21 July 2021, Henan province, China, suffered a catastrophic flood and urban waterlogging. In order to test the feasibility of flood disaster monitoring on a daily basis by using GNSS-R observations, the CYGNSS (Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System) Level 1 Science Data were processed for a few days before and after the flood to obtain surface reflectivity by correcting the analog power. Afterwards, the flood was monitored and mapped daily based on the analysis of changes in surface reflectivity from spaceborne GNSS-R mission. The results were evaluated based on the image from MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) data, and compared with the observations of SMAP (Soil Moisture Active Passive) in the same period. The results show that the area with high CYGNSS reflectivity corresponds to the flooded area monitored by MODIS, and it is also in high agreement with SMAP. Moreover, CYGNSS can achieve more detailed mapping and quantification of the inundated area and the duration of the flood, respectively, in line with the specific situation of the flood. Timely and accurate regional crop-yield estimates are crucial for guiding agronomic practices and policies to improve food security. In this study, a crop-growth model was integrated with time series of remotely sensed data through deep learning (DL) methods to improve the accuracy of regional wheat-yield estimations in Henan Province, China. Firstly, the time series of moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) were input into the long short-term memory network (LSTM) model to identify the wheat-growing region, which was further used to estimate wheat areas at the municipal and county levels. Then, the leaf area index (LAI) and grain-yield time series simulated by the Crop Environment REsource Synthesis for Wheat (CERES-Wheat) model were used to train and evaluate the LSTM, one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1-D CNN) and random forest (RF) models, respectively. Finally, an exponential model of the relationship between the field-measured LAI and MODIS NDVI was applied to obtain the regional LAI, which was input into the trained LSTM, 1-D CNN and RF models to estimate wheat yields within the wheat-growing region. The results showed that the linear correlations between the estimated wheat areas and the statistical areas were significant at both the municipal and county levels. The LSTM model provided more accurate estimates of wheat yields, with higher R2 values and lower root mean square error (RMSE) and mean relative error (MRE) values than the 1-D CNN and RF models. The LSTM model has an inherent advantage in capturing phenological information contained in the time series of the MODIS-derived LAI, which is important for satellite-based crop-yield estimates. Soil moisture monitoring using Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) multipath signals has gained continuous interests in recent years. However, traditional GNSS-interferometric reflectometry (GNSS-IR) soil moisture retrieval methods generally utilize a single frequency or single satellite, which fail to take full advantage of different and complementary of satellite signals with different frequencies. An improved algorithm for soil moisture retrieval based on principal component analysis (PCA) and entropy method using multi-frequency amplitude and phase offset fusion data was proposed in this research. The performance of the proposed soil moisture retrieval method was evaluated using data recorded by Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO) H2O networks and a self-built site in Henan, China. The results from GPS and BeiDou both showed that the retrieved soil moisture has a stronger correlation with in situ soil moisture, which can better reflect the fluctuation of ground truth measurements. Compared with the traditional method, the retrieval accuracy of the proposed method in terms of root-mean-square error (RMSE) was improved by 50.93%, and the average correlation coefficient were increased by 11.71%. This research proved that the proposed method could effectively improve retrieval accuracy due to the increasing number of frequencies and tracks clustering. The Kobresia pygmaea (KP) community is a key succession stage of alpine meadow degradation on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP). However, most of the grassland classification and mapping studies have been performed at the grassland type level. The spatial distribution and impact factors of KP on the QTP are still unclear. In this study, field measurements of the grassland vegetation community in the eastern part of the QTP (Counties of Zeku, Henan and Maqu) from 2015 to 2019 were acquired using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology. The machine learning algorithms for grassland vegetation community classification were constructed by combining Gaofen satellite images and topographic indices. Then, the spatial distribution of KP community was mapped. The results showed that: (1) For all field observed sites, the alpine meadow vegetation communities demonstrated a considerable spatial heterogeneity. The traditional classification methods can hardly distinguish those communities due to the high similarity of their spectral characteristics. (2) The random forest method based on the combination of satellite vegetation indices, texture feature and topographic indices exhibited the best performance in three counties, with overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient ranged from 74.06% to 83.92% and 0.65 to 0.80, respectively. (3) As a whole, the area of KP community reached 1434.07 km2, and accounted for 7.20% of the study area. To allow extraction of irrigation signals from satellite-derived data on soil moisture, this study describes the development of an irrigation signal extraction method that takes into account multiple environmental factors in irrigation. Firstly, the fuzzy membership functions of irrigation relating to multiple environmental factors are constructed. Then, a model is built based on the fuzzy membership functions by using operation rules of fuzzy sets, which is used to infer the relevant degree of irrigation to nonirrigation. Finally, the irrigation signals in satellite-based soil moisture data are recognized according to the relevant degree. Taking Henan Province in the North China Plain as the study area, the proposed method is used to extract irrigation signals from the SMAP Level 3 Passive Soil Moisture Product. Extracted irrigation signals from two SMAP grids are validated using daily in situ soil moisture and precipitation data, with the results showing correct identification of most of the irrigation signals. By grading the membership degree of the extracted irrigation signals, irrigation frequency maps for the 2016–2017 winter crop growth season and the 2017 summer crop growth season are obtained for Henan Province. Compared to the irrigation frequency maps with data on the annual precipitation and the annual potential evapotranspiration, the irrigation frequency maps show a spatial pattern opposite that of the annual precipitation and a spatial pattern similar to that of the annual potential evapotranspiration. It is common sense that areas with low precipitation and high evapotranspiration need more irrigation frequency and irrigation water. Thus, the spatial patterns of irrigation frequency maps are reasonable in a sense. However, it should be noted that the observed irrigation data used in the qualitative assessments are rendered less convincing by the SMAP product's coarse resolution. Quantitative validation of extracted irrigation signals remains a significant challenge, and small-scale irrigation cannot be captured by coarse-resolution satellite-based soil moisture products. Spatially continuous soil thickness data at large scales are usually not readily available and are often difficult and expensive to acquire. Various machine learning algorithms have become very popular in digital soil mapping to predict and map the spatial distribution of soil properties. Identifying the controlling environmental variables of soil thickness and selecting suitable machine learning algorithms are vitally important in modeling. In this study, 11 quantitative and four qualitative environmental variables were selected to explore the main variables that affect soil thickness. Four commonly used machine learning algorithms (multiple linear regression (MLR), support vector regression (SVR), random forest (RF), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) were evaluated as individual models to separately predict and obtain a soil thickness distribution map in Henan Province, China. In addition, the two stacking ensemble models using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and generalized boosted regression model (GBM) were tested and applied to build the most reliable and accurate estimation model. The results showed that variable selection was a very important part of soil thickness modeling. Topographic wetness index (TWI), slope, elevation, land use and enhanced vegetation index (EVI) were the most influential environmental variables in soil thickness modeling. Comparative results showed that the XGBoost model outperformed the MLR, RF and SVR models. Importantly, the two stacking models achieved higher performance than the single model, especially when using GBM. In terms of accuracy, the proposed stacking method explained 64.0% of the variation for soil thickness. In this study, spatio-temporal characteristics of particulate matter (PMx; x = 2.5 and 10) mass concentrations and aerosol optical properties were analyzed over the water source area of the South–North Water Diversion Central Line. For this purpose, PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations were collected at the Taocha(TC)station from October 2018 to September 2019, and aerosol optical depth (AOD) was obtained from the Cloud-Aerosol LiDAR and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) satellite from 2007 to 2019. The monthly, seasonal, and daily statistical analyses and related comparisons were conducted in the present study. The results showed that the PM10 concentrations meet China's ambient air secondary quality standard (100 μg/m3 annual mean), whereas PM2.5 did not meet China's ambient air secondary quality standard (35 μg/m3 annual mean) at the TC station, no obvious seasonal and diurnal variations are observed, and these particulates are caused by local emissions and outside sources. A significant positive correlation of PM2.5 and PM10 was observed with relative humidity and temperature, whereas no relationship was found with wind direction. The results also showed low (~0.1) AOD in spring, autumn, and winter, whereas slightly higher AOD (~0.3) was observed in summer. This may be caused by straw burning from long-distance transportation. This study may provide new data support for comprehensive ecological measures such as strengthening the ecological environment and water quality protection in the Middle Route Project of the South–North Water Diversion. Predicting crop maturity dates is important for improving crop harvest planning and grain quality. The prediction of crop maturity dates by assimilating remote sensing information into crop growth model has not been fully explored. In this study, a data assimilation framework incorporating the leaf area index (LAI) product from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) into a World Food Studies (WOFOST) model was proposed to predict the maturity dates of winter wheat in Henan province, China. Minimization of normalized cost function was used to obtain the input parameters of the WOFOST model. The WOFOST model was run with the re-initialized parameter to forecast the maturity dates of winter wheat grid by grid, and THORPEX Interactive Grand Global Ensemble (TIGGE) was used as forecasting period weather input in the future 15 days (d) for the WOFOST model. The results demonstrated a promising regional maturity date prediction with determination coefficient (R2) of 0.94 and the root mean square error (RMSE) of 1.86 d. The outcomes also showed that the optimal forecasting starting time for Henan was 30 April, corresponding to a stage from anthesis to grain filling.
