ABSTRACT Objectives: to develop and validate an educational booklet on labor and delivery for pregnant women. Methods: this methodological study involved constructing and validating a booklet based on Echer’s framework. We used the Content Validity Index and Cronbach’s alpha for content and face validation, selecting judges according to Fering’s criteria. We then conducted a clinical validation with the target population. Results: the booklet, developed based on evidence from an integrative review and validated by judges and the target audience, achieved global Content Validity Index of 0.919 and 0.913, respectively. After clinical validation with 22 pregnant women, it included 28 topics and 48 pages, with illustrations by a graphic designer. Conclusions: expert judges and the target audience considered this educational technology valid, deeming it a relevant tool for promoting the health of pregnant women.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to construct and validate an educational game on biosafety in the Central Sterile Supply Department of a hospital in Curitiba, PR. Methods: the study was conducted using a quantitative approach, employing applied and technological research with an exploratory design. The process was divided into six stages, from the definition of the theme to the validation and application of the game. The study was carried out from May to August 2022, involving 17 nursing professionals from a Central Sterile Supply Department during day and night shifts, as well as 9 judges. Results: the study resulted in the construction of a board game named by the authors as “My Health First.” Conclusions: the research achieved its objective of constructing and validating an educational game. By reflecting on professional practice and correlating the occupational risks present, the professionals were able to list safe actions, identify problems, and seek solutions.

ABSTRACT Objective: To adapt and validate the content of the Advanced Practice Nursing Competency Assessment Instrument (APNCAI) to Brazilian culture. Methods: This is a methodological study that followed the stages of translation, synthesis, back translation, evaluation by a committee of five specialists, pre-test with 31 nurses, and evaluation by the author of the original instrument. The Content Validity Index (minimum 0.90) and the modified Kappa (minimum 0.74) were calculated to evaluate the content. Result: In the first round of content evaluation, 18 items had to be altered because they did not reach the minimum values established. Three items have not reached a consensus in the second round and had to be sent to the author of the original version. In the pre-test, 13 items were returned to the specialists because they suffered content changes. Conclusion: The Advanced Practice Nursing Competency Assessment Instrument (APNCAI) - Brazilian version was cross-culturally adapted, and its content was validated.

ABSTRACT Objective: to determine the factors associated with stress, anxiety and depression, concomitantly, in nursing professionals who work in the hospital context. Methods: a quantitative and cross-sectional study with 353 nursing professionals from a hospital. A sociodemographic questionnaire and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-21 were used. Data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, difference and correlation tests. Results: the main factors associated with stress, anxiety and depression, concomitantly, were being female, compromised family and social support, lack of autonomy at work, hostile relationship with colleagues, lack of professional recognition and satisfaction, feeling of being overwhelmed and insecurity. Conclusions: demographic, physiological, social and work factors impact the levels of stress, anxiety and depression in nursing professionals. The adoption of coping strategies for modifiable factors should be considered, in order to provide better quality of life for these professionals.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze Brazilian and international scientific publications about the stress experienced by health professionals in the hospital context during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Integrative literature review carried out on the SciELO, ScienceDirect, and LILACS databases, and sources of official Brazilian institutions, with documents published by May 2020. Results: Of the 26 selected references, 19 (73.08%) were indexed articles, and 7 (26.92 %) were obtained from official institutions. The study found that stress is mainly due to the overload of hospital services, the removal of professionals, the insufficiency of personal protective equipment and strict biosecurity measures, challenges in the allocation of available resources, and the risk of contamination by COVID-19. Final considerations: The stress experienced by health professionals in hospital institutions during the pandemic can trigger occupational and psychological problems.

ABSTRACT Objective: to map and identify nursing diagnoses targeted at night care users in a Psychosocial Care Center according to NANDA-I Taxonomy. Method: this is a descriptive-exploratory study, of documentary research type of 319 records in medical records. It was held in a Psychosocial Care Center III in Goiás, from 2014-2018. Nursing diagnoses and records were extracted with non-standardized language. Results: 813 records of nursing diagnoses identified in 53 different titles, in 10 domains, were identified. The most frequent diagnosis was risk for self-extermination. The domain with the highest number of diagnostic records was activity/rest. There was a predominance of diagnoses focused on the problem. Final considerations: mapping contributes to the planning of evidence-based nursing interventions and to the strengthening of professional identity in mental health. It is evident the need for practices that go beyond the symptoms in a preventive perspective, with a view to comprehensiveness.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to identify the current state of knowledge on compassion fatigue in the work context of healthcare professionals; and how coping strategies are established in this scenario. Method: a scoping review with search applied to the databases: MEDLINE, LILACS, CINAHL, Scopus. Temporal limit: 2009 to 2019. The data was analyzed and synthesized in narrative form Results: thirty articles were selected, synthesized into two categories: a) Health work and compassion fatigue: conceptual analysis, context, and manifestations; b) Coping strategies for compassion fatigue. Conclusions: this study presented: a descriptive and general panorama about compassion fatigue in healthcare professionals, identifying a greater consolidation of the concept between 2015 and 2018; and some coping strategies. The association between health and spirituality is highlighted as one of the strategies in this scenario, enabling new research to be conducted in view of the importance of the theme in life, health work.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the diagnostic criteria for ventilator-associated pneumonia recommended by the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency and the National Healthcare Safety Network/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as its risk factors. Methods: retrospective cohort study carried out in an intensive care unit throughout 12 months, in 2017. Analyses included chi-square, simple linear regression, and Kappa statistical tests and were conducted using Stata 12 software. Results: the sample was 543 patients who were in the intensive care unit and under mechanical ventilation, of whom 330 (60.9%) were men and 213 (39.1%) were women. Variables such as gender, age, time under mechanical ventilation, and oral hygiene proved to be significant risk factors for the development of ventilator-associated pneumonia. Conclusions: patients submitted to mechanical ventilation need to be constantly evaluated so the used diagnostic methods can be accurate and applied in an objective and standardized way in Brazilian hospitals.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to assess quality of life (QoL) and satisfaction with life (SWL) indices and verify whether the frequency of religious and spiritual experiences is associated with QoL and SWL in hospitalized octogenarians. Method: this is a cross-sectional study, with 128 octogenarians. World Health Organization QoL instruments and Scales applied: Daily Spiritual Experience (DSES) and Satisfaction With Life (SWLS). Results: more committed domains related to QoL and SWL: autonomy and physical capacity. The higher the score in DSES, the higher the scores in the psychological domains and past, present, and future QoL activities. The higher the score in DSES, the higher the score in the social involvement aspect. Conclusion: the results of this study showed that the higher frequency of religious and spiritual experiences of hospitalized elderly people was associated with better QoL and SWL. It is emphasized that religious and spiritual experiences should be explored in the hospital therapeutic context.

ABSTRACT Objective: to characterize the sociodemographic and psychiatric profile of women users of psychoactive substances in treatment for drug addiction. Method: descriptive study of quantitative approach performed with women attended at a Psychosocial Care Center for Users of Alcohol and Other Drugs (CAPS ad) from the interior of São Paulo State. Results: the sample consisted of 349 adult women, single, low educational level and unemployed, users of alcohol, cocaine, crack and tranquillizers. Among the consequences of use include withdrawal syndrome, overdose, depressive and suicidal symptoms. Most were referred for treatment by the family or health services. Almost 20% of these women had previously started treatments. Conclusion: The results suggest marked morbidity and high levels of psychosocial vulnerability, which require thorough investigation at the patient’s admission, as well as damage associated with use, withdrawal symptoms and depressive symptoms.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to evaluate the microbial load and adherence of Escherichia coli in different areas of the surgical instrument surface exposed to experimental contamination over time. Methods: experimental study in which fragments of crile forceps (serrated, rod and rack) were contaminated by immersion in Tryptic Soy Broth, containing 106 CFU/mL of E. coli, for 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24 hours. Microbial load and bacterial adherence were evaluated using microbiological culture and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Results: there was an increase in the microbial load on the surgical instrument, proportional to the contamination interval, ranging from 102 after 1 hour to 105 CFU/cm2 in 24 hours. The presence of exopolysaccharide was detected after two hours of contamination. Conclusions: microbial load and adhesion of E. coli increased over time, reaching 105 CFU/cm2 after 24 hours of contamination, starting biofilm formation after two hours.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the Health Care Network (dis)articulation of late and moderate premature infants in the first year of life. Method: a qualitative study with semi-structured interview, which addressed the care network constitution in a municipality in southern Brazil. Fifteen mothers of infants participated. Thematic content analysis and flowchart were used to describe networks and services. Results: first contact in Primary Health Care is a decisive factor for the recognition and articulation of neonates/infants in the network and enables resolution, especially in childcare demands. Secondary and hospital care services support isolated acute events or chronic conditions, without articulation between levels of care and in a uniprofessional way. Final considerations: attention to health conditions is organized and structured in a uniprofessional, fragmented and disjointed way, which makes it impossible to form a Health Care Network premature infants’ perspective.

ABSTRACT Objectives: Validate script and storyboard of a video for educational intervention on nursing care for the prevention and management of syphilis. Methods: Methodological design study, with quantitative analysis approach. The content and appearance of the educational video script and storyboard was validated by a committee of experts on the subject and video. They were considered validated from the agreement of 78%, calculated by means of the Content Validity Index. Results: There were suggestions, which were analyzed; and, where relevant, the script and storyboard were changed. The degree of agreement among the expert judges on the subject obtained a Content Validity Index (CVI) of 100%, while, with the technical experts in video, all the questions in the educational material obtained the percentage above the recommended minimum of 78%. Conclusion: The validated video is an important technological production and could be used in the context of health care.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the understanding of homeless people living in a city in the countryside of São Paulo about what health is and about their experiences in health services. Methods: a qualitative exploratory study developed through interviews with homeless people and a field diary. The data were organized by themes and the findings were compared to a collective health framework. Results: the explored themes were: “Being healthy for the homeless population”, “The search for health services” and “Being a user of health services from the perspective of homeless people”. We present the interviewees’ understanding of health and their experiences in healthcare services. Along this path, we outline aspects that show the network’s weaknesses, permeated by prejudices and discrimination. Final Considerations: this population has conceptions about health and needs that need to be singularly taken into consideration to facilitate access and care.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to describe a product technology building (Care Facilitator Cart) with nursing professionals working in surgical clinic and medical clinic at a university hospital in Rio Grande do Sul. Methods: a qualitative, methodological research guided by the Business Model Canvas, with 52 nursing professionals, through non-participant observation and brainstorming, carried out from April to October 2016. The records were analyzed through content analysis. Results: the product was built with two floors, a retractable table, a removable compartment for disposal and separation of infectious, recyclable and sharps waste, lid opening by a sensor, among others. Final Considerations: the invention unleashes possibilities to be an innovative instrument aimed at performing safe care in hospital institutions, with a view to reducing professional wear, rework, infection control, and effectiveness of procedures and techniques.

ABSTRACT Objective: to describe professionals’ perceptions about the therapeutic effectiveness of group care. Method: a descriptive, exploratory, qualitative research of the type of intervention carried out with 30 professionals from Psychosocial Care Centers for Alcohol and Drugs in a municipality in center-westerns Brazil, from March to April 2019. Self-applicable instruments and round circles were used. The emerging data were submitted to content analysis. Results: professionals perceive the benefits of group practices and relate them to some therapeutic factors in the group. It is evident the little formal and systematized knowledge about the group process elements. Final Considerations: the therapeutic effectiveness of group processes is compromised due to absence of systematic records that allow to perceive the therapeutic progress of users, even though professionals perceive the emergence of therapeutic factors of the groups in the context of psychosocial care.

ABSTRACT Objective: To develop a workflow protocol for Home Care (HC) services in the HC2 modality for children with special health care needs (CSHCN) in the state of Parana. Method: Quantitative, descriptive, exploratory, multiple case studies. Data was collected with professionals from the eight home care services in Parana. Data were analyzed using the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) methodology, from which a 5W2H method of action plan was developed, resulting in a flow chart. Results: Considering the strategies found in Home Care services, such as planned hospital discharge, caregiver training, organized transportation and singular therapeutic project, a flow organization protocol for children with special health care needs in Home Care services was developed. Conclusion: The protocol developed makes it possible to organize the care provided to children with special health care needs in home care.

ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze information on resource allocation in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, published in indexed scientific journals, from December 2019 to March 2020. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, which took place in March 2020. All databases were investigated and studies were found only in MEDLINE. After applying the established criteria, six articles were selected. Results: It was evident that the allocation of resources is carried out as the demands emerge. The fragility in presenting scientific-methodological evidence that can guide decision makers for assertive allocation of available resources is highlighted. The results showed that studies on this subject are incipient and need to be expanded. Final considerations: The need for health organizations and area authorities to be better prepared for the proper use of available resources, with allocation based on scientific evidence and maximization of resources is indicated.

ABSTRACT Objective: to know how autonomy is constituted in the nurse’s professional practice in the hospital context. Methods: Qualitative analytical study, based on Foucault’s methodological theoretical framework. The empirical material consisted of articles published in the Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem and narrative interviews conducted with 18 nurses from a public hospital in southern Brazil. Data collection took place between December 2017 and May 2018, being analyzed through Foucauldian discourse analysis. Results: Autonomy in the professional practice of nurses goes through the core of knowledge, the political positioning and the working conditions. These factors are revealed as power instruments in the construction of nurse governability. Final Considerations: It is believed that the investment focused on the debate of the nurse’s autonomy interfaces could raise new attitudes about professional practice and favor the transformation of nursing practice.

ABSTRACT Objective: to assess the quality of life and body image of men with difficulty urinating and indwelling urinary catheter users, integrating the socio-demographic, economic and morbidity variables. Method: a cross-sectional analytical study with 64 male patients with urinary problems. Three questionnaires were used for data collection: one containing sociodemographic, economic and morbid data, the Medical Outcome Study 36-item short-form health survey to analyze quality of life, and the Body Dysmorphic Examination, which assesses body image. T-test, Mann-Whitney, Pearson, Spearman, Linear Regression and Stepwise were used. Results: quality of life and body image were compromised in both groups, affecting emotional aspects, with a high degree of body dissatisfaction and altered physical and social adversity. Conclusion: changes in patients’ quality of life and body image were observed, confirming the need for improvement in care.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe and to analyze the proposal for intervention in the waiting room as a possibility for Nursing in mental health in group context. Method: Descriptive study with a qualitative approach, convergent care type, developed in a Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Drugs in the interior of the state of Goiás. Results: The service in the waiting room provided moments of reflection, knowledge, learning, listening and exchanging experiences. Final considerations: The meetings in the waiting room favored the articulation between theoretical knowledge and the practice of nursing care in groups, constituting a space with a valuable locus for the development of educational and support actions in health services, to be undertaken by the nurse and, also, by other professionals of the health team.

ABSTRACT Objective: to assess quality of life, anxiety and depression in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Method: a cross-sectional, quantitative study, conducted in a reference hospital for the treatment of pulmonary diseases. Seventy patients were assessed, using a sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, Beck’s anxiety and Depression Inventories and the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale. Results: the participants had better quality of life in the vitality, mental health and social role functioning domains (median=50.0) and worse in limitation by physical and emotional role functioning (median=0.0 points). Anxiety, depression and oxygen dependence were associated with poorer results in the quality of life domains. Conclusion: all patients were classified with severe anxiety level and moderate depression predominance. Patients had low quality of life scores in all domains.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the mean direct cost and peripheral venous access length outcomes using devices over needle with and without extension. Methods: quantitative, exploratory-descriptive research. Venous punctures and length of the devices were followed. The mean direct cost was calculated by multiplying the time (timed) spent by nursing professionals by the unit cost of labor, adding to the cost of materials. Results: the total mean direct cost of using devices “with extension” (US$ 9.37) was 2.9 times the cost of using devices “without extension” (US$ 4.50), US$ 7.71 and US$ 2.66, respectively. Totaling 96 hours of stay, the “device over needle with extension” showed a lower occurrence of accidental loss. Conclusions: the use of the “device over needle with extension”, despite its higher mean direct cost, was more effective in favoring adequate length of peripheral venous access.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to present the nurses’ experience with technological tools to support the early identification of sepsis. Methods: experience report before and after the implementation of artificial intelligence algorithms in the clinical practice of a philanthropic hospital, in the first half of 2018. Results: describe the motivation for the creation and use of the algorithm; the role of the nurse in the development and implementation of this technology and its effects on the nursing work process. Final Considerations: technological innovations need to contribute to the improvement of professional practices in health. Thus, nurses must recognize their role in all stages of this process, in order to guarantee safe, effective and patient-centered care. In the case presented, the participation of the nurses in the technology incorporation process enables a rapid decision-making in the early identification of sepsis.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to validate nursing care effectiveness indicators of patient safety dimension. Methods: quantitative survey, using the electronic Delphi sampli, with 52 participants selected by the Snowball sampling. Eight indicators were evaluated regarding the attributes: availability, reliability, simplicity, representativeness, sensitivity, comprehensiveness, objectivity, cost, utility, stability and timeliness. For validation, the minimum agreement criterion was 70%. Results: Cronbach’s alpha (0.942) evidenced the high internal consistency among the attributes. The indicators fall with damage, hip fracture, and postoperative hip fracture, incidents related to equipment, incidents due to failures in patient identification, and pressure injury were validated in all attributes, and those of medication error and hand Hygiene were not validated. Conclusions: the validated indicators allow assessment of the effectiveness of hospital nursing care. Unavailability of data is an obstacle to monitoring patient safety.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to evaluate the impact of training on brief interventions for use of substances on the attitudes; and, face validity and internal consistency of Brazilian versions of the Drug and Drug Problems Perceptions Questionnaire (DDPPQ-br) and the Short Alcohol and Alcohol Problems Perception Questionnaire (SAAPPQ) for use among teachers. Methods: methodological (N=122) and quasi-experimental study (n=27). A sociodemographic questionnaire, the DDPPQ-br and the SAAPPQ were applied before and three months after the training. For analysis, were applied the Mann-Whitney and Wilcoxon tests. Results: the DDPQ-br and SAAPPQ were considered valid by experts. The training improved teachers’ attitudes towards accountability on the approach to substance use at schools and on the readiness to perform this role. In relation to drugs, it increased the perception of support. Conclusions: teachers’ training can improve their attitudes and strengthen the school in the function of preventing substance-related harm.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the association between common mental disorders and socio-demographic variables, smoking habits and stressful events among the 30-year-old members of a 1982 cohort. Method: Mental disorder was analyzed by the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20). Poisson regression was used to analyze the unadjusted and adjusted associations. Results: Low level of education and stressful events increased the prevalence of mental disorders for both genders. Lower income for women and unemployment for men also remained associated with CMD. Conclusion: It was possible to describe the association between contemporary factors and mental disorders in a young population, to which prevention and control measures, through public policies proposed to the areas of Primary Care, Mental Health and Education, can represent a better quality of life and health.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the discourse of psychoactive substance users undergoing treatment regarding their image of themselves as drug dependent subjects, of other dependents and the social position assumed by them. Method: qualitative study conducted between March and September of 2016 through a semi-structured interview and drawings, based on the theoretical-methodological reference of French Discourse Analysis. Participation of 12 drug dependent subjects undergoing treatment in the service that substitutes the asylum. Results: The images that psychoactive substance dependents have of themselves and of chemically dependent subjects are associated with the image of a negative, diabolical, transgressive, sick and socially excluded individual. Final considerations: The ideological effects of meanings produced by users’ discourses reproduce the biological and moral model. Health professionals, including nurses, need to invest in discourses that address the psychosocial model to demythologize this stigmatizing image and modify their work practice.

ABSTRACT Objectives: Analyze the effect of first aid training on the knowledge of multidisciplinary teams from special education schools, in school accidents. Methods: A quasi-experimental, before-and-after study with a single comparison group. Descriptive statistics and McNemar’s test were used to evaluate the effect of the intervention. Results: This study had the participation of 162 higher education professionals, predominantly teachers (82.1%), female (97.5%), aged over 40 (69.2%). An increase in correct answers was observed, with statistical significance (≤0.05), especially in proper handling in case of fall with traumatic brain injury, electric shock, and burn due to hot liquid (98.1%, 98.1% and 96.9% of proper response, respectively). Conclusions: First aid training for child accidents, through content exhibition, in a dialogical and practical way, proved to be efficient for multidisciplinary teams from special education schools for people with disabilities.

RESUMOInsuficiência cardíaca (IC) é causa frequente de internação exigindo do enfermeiro precisão na conduta clínica e adequado julgamento dos diagnósticos de enfermagem.Objetivo:verificar acurácia na determinação dos diagnósticos de enfermagem fadiga, intolerância à atividade e débito cardíaco diminuído em paciente com IC hospitalizados.Método:estudo descritivo aplicado aos enfermeiros experientes em diagnósticos de enfermagem NANDA-I e/ou IC. Avaliação da acurácia foi realizada a partir do cálculo das medidas: eficácia (E), falso negativo (FN), falso positivo (FP) e tendência (T). Foram aptos os enfermeiros com inspeção aceitável para dois diagnósticos.Resultados:o diagnóstico de enfermagem fadiga foi o mais erroneamente identificado pelos enfermeiros avaliadores.Discussão:a busca pelo aperfeiçoamento da acurácia diagnóstica reafirma a necessidade de treinamento contínuo e específico para a melhora da capacidade diagnosticadora do enfermeiro.Conclusão:o treinamento permitiu o exercício do raciocínio clínico e melhor acurácia dos enfermeiros.

RESUMO Objetivo: investigar a existência de relação entre os perfis atitudinais e a dinâmica prazer/sofrimento em trabalhadores de Serviços de Saúde Mental. Método: estudo quantitativo, descritivo-analítico, correlacional e transversal, realizado em 2014. Foram utilizados três instrumentos: questionário de caracterização, Escala de Opiniões sobre a Doença Mental e Escala de Indicadores de Prazer e Sofrimento no Trabalho, respondidos por 80 trabalhadores da Rede de Atenção Psicossocial de Alfenas-MG. Resultados: Autoritarismo revelou-se o perfil predominante. Quanto ao prazer/sofrimento no trabalho, a Gratificação foi considerada satisfatória, e os indicadores Liberdade, Desgaste e Insegurança, moderados críticos. Houve correlações positivas entre as atitudes mais favoráveis e os indicadores de prazer no trabalho. Os valores de ambas as escalas mostraram relações com variáveis sociodemográficas e profissionais. Conclusão: as atitudes menos favoráveis são predominantes e, apesar do sofrimento presente, esses profissionais sentem-se gratificados em relação ao trabalho.
