Abstract
This article studies the dissymmetrical repercussions of two films from Argentinean cinema released in 2009 and 2010 and based on novels. On the one hand, El secreto de sus ojos, winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. On the other hand, Ciencias morales, an adaptation of the novel that won the 2007 Herralde Prize. The paper deals with the relationship between story and national history, evaluates the changes from books to films and proposes an explanation for the different receptions obtained from public and critics of so closed topics. Abstract
Through a series of interviews and field investigations, this work examines the phenomenon of Korean immigration in Argentina in the last decades, highlighting the cultural aspects which constitute new ways of dismantling the traditional Argentinean identity as "white" or "European." The paper also analyzes the distinct attitudes of Korean and Korean descendants in Argentina, as well as those of Argentinians--and especially porteños--in the construction of mutual collective imaginaries. These have proven to be more porous to the alterity than the native identities (which are no less imaginary) on which they are based. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
