This paper presents a framework based on three dimensions (material, educational, and psychoemotional) to explore the characteristics, processes, and outcomes of emergency remote education introduced by inperson universities during the COVID-19 pandemic. With this aim, two ad hoc questionnaires were designed and administered in April-May to a sample of 220 teachers and 548 students in a Spanish university. The most significant findings show digital inequality between students in terms of technological equipment and the quality of connectivity. Remote education was designed as a way to transfer the inperson teaching model to a virtual environment. Both teachers and students experienced an overload of work, which may help to explain the high levels of stress experienced by both groups. This research paper focuses on analyzing the current situation regarding the educational and social inclusion of students with disabilities, based on the point of view of students studying at the College of Education and Learning Sciences in Bologna (Italy). Due to the complexity of the educational situation being analyzed, a descriptive methodological approach was followed, collecting and analyzing quantitative data through a survey. The data sample was obtained incidentally by taking advantage of the research collaboration of one of the authors who was present in Bologna. Overall, the results indicate that these students hold generally positive opinions and attitudes toward the inclusion of disabled students. It should be noted, however, that an improvement in basic training is needed, and that studies should be conducted on educational practice aiming to further develop the implementation of action plans based on academic quality in order to include students with disabilities in higher education. The Ecuadorian university system has undergone significant organizational transformations in recent years. Given this situation, the main objective of this study is to describe the most relevant legislative changes affecting university administration in Ecuador following the 2008 constitutional reform. To this end, this study reviewed papers by Ecuadorian authors and analyzed the most significant regulatory frameworks that have governed the way higher education institutions operate. The paper points out the lack of scientific and specialized bibliography in the most commonly used databases by academics, and makes reference to the need to generate and strengthen research on this topic. This paper presents an analysis of socio-emotional discursive strategies employed by students in collaborative tasks online. A multiple-case study was conducted to explore collaborative processes among three groups of students enrolled in the psychopedagogy degree in the first academic cycle of 2014 at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). To complete the task, students made contributions to an asynchronous communication forum for thirty days. The results point to four types of socio-emotional discursive strategies that have a significant impact on group performance: i) the use of inclusive pronouns; ii) the formulation of expectations about the task; iii) positive feedback on the way the group is working; and iv) expressions of mutual support among participants. It is also concluded that the groups with the best learning outcomes tend to maintain or increase their use of socio-emotional discursive strategies over time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the paper is to present a validated analytical framework for assessing the institutional conditions of online teaching in higher education. A descriptive study was performed using content analysis techniques, interviews and focus groups. The method included theory, fieldwork, and academic teamwork, and an intersubjective consensus was sought between various teams of participants (expert researchers, basic and specialized users of online teaching) who assessed the clarity, relevance, coherence, and adequacy of dimensions and indicators. As a result, a framework was developed including seven dimensions: institutional policy, institutional organization, institutional regulations, institutional plans and programs, online educational model, teachers' working conditions, and infrastructure and equipment. The work concludes by supporting the use of the proposed framework as a guide for selfassessment of institutional conditions that further the quality of online teaching. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents the results of an analysis of the application of a test of citizenship skills on a group of students from the University of Magdalena (Universidad de Magdalena) after they received teaching practices that were both constructive (case studies) and playful (games) to acquire citizenship skills. The study is quantitative with a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest design, a control group that received explanations (lectures) and an experimental group that received playful and constructive teaching practices. The parametric tests performed on the data obtained lead to the conclusion that there are significant differences in favor of students who used playful and constructive teaching practices to develop citizenship skills. This paper offers the results of a quantitative study carried out with the aim of defining the technological skills profile of 301 students entering the BA in elementary education. A 29-question digital survey was used; results reflect a prevalence of female students over 30 years of age, who have access to a computer with an Internet connection, prefer to interact using phones, use e-mail, surf the Internet every day, are able to use technology at a basic level, particularly office suites, and are unfamiliar with the use of modern tools such as blogs and social bookmarking. This paper focuses on the evaluation of teaching in higher education from student and teacher perceptions. It analyzes its relationship with factors linked to students, teachers and curricular units (CU) and the consistency between student and teacher perspectives, while taking into consideration the study's two objectives: firstly, to find out how teachers and students of the Escuela Superior de Salud Jean Piaget de Vila Nova de Gaia (Portugal) assess teaching quality; and secondly, to determine how appropriate it is for students and teachers to use the SEEQ (Student's Evaluation of Educational Quality) tool. A SEEQ-based instrument was used with a population of 1,343 students and 146 teachers. The study results support the assurances offered by the model used. This is due in part to the reliability and consistency of the instrument, but mainly to the consistency between student and teacher perceptions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research on epistemological beliefs has become widespread, but in recent years has opened the doors to a debate on how these beliefs should be characterized and assessed. It is within this context that this study seeks to characterize these beliefs as component premises of epistemological perspectives. The study evaluated 55 first-year university students from four academic disciplines by means of the Egyptian pyramid-building dilemma. Two epistemological perspectives were identified. One was empirical and supported by the premise that knowledge is an objective systematization of observations of an unequivocal reality embodied by just one possible explanation, and the other was an individual relativist perspective supported by the premise that knowledge is a subjective systematization of facts that gives rise to multiple but equally valid explanations. This paper presents the design and validation process of a questionnaire to determine the types of assessment used by members of faculty. The methodology used begins with the conceptual and operational definition of the domain and is followed through to the analysis of the pilot results to determine, on the one hand, the reliability of the questionnaire and each question and, on the other hand, the construct validity. The results of this study provide sufficient evidence to show 1) the validity of the questionnaire content, which shows an acceptable index of agreement according to experts (with Krippendorf's alpha coefficient greater than 0.7); 2) the global reliability of the questionnaire, equivalent to alpha = 0.87 and the reliability of the questions, between alpha 0.81 and alpha 0.87; 3) the construct validity of the questionnaire; 4) that the factorial structure is not significantly different from the theory used as a basis to establish the questions. The data suggests that the questionnaire is a valid tool and psychometrically sound for its purpose. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A peremptory change in education and the higher education at universities is occurriyng. Since 60´s to date theoretical issues on the role of education are continuously on modification more rapidly than the teaching and learning practices that need more time to be realized. In this paper is presented a broad scope of main national and international organizations that propose, promote and systematize those educational changes since a half century ago and specially, those that impact the formation tendency based on competences. On other side, and not pretending be exhaustive, in this paper is highlighted a list of educational competences that teachers need to develop if they pretend to realize their teaching functions with high quality standards, mainly those related with velocity involvement as curriculum constructor.

This paper presents the findings of a study whose object was to describe the experience and results of an online training program for professors in Mexican business schools, aimed at developing information and communication technologies skills. The training program was developed using the CUDI network for Internet 2 videoconferencing, and the SAKAI learning platform for the management of educational interventions. The results show the opportunities and difficulties encountered in the development of a teacher training program of this type and identify the characteristics of the profile of a teacher who did effectively benefit from this experience. This paper provides an overview of some of the gains and constraints in the process of construction of a knowledge society in the state of Morelos, Mexico, focusing mainly on the development and use of ICT and on the role of institutions of higher education (IES- acronym in Spanish). To this end, documentary and field research methods were applied; interviews were conducted with experts and a case study from the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos [Autonomous University of the State of Morelos] is reported. The following conclusions were highlighted: a) while Morelos has made significant progress in scientific and technological matters, challenges remain in order to be able to even speak of a knowledge society; b) the fact that institutions of higher education have ICT does not necessarily mean that they have adequately appropriated them and employ them to improve their processes; and c) institutions of higher education need to generate outreach programs that engage with the region so that technological developments are translated into benefits for the people of Morelos. The paper deals with the relationship between the professional job market and institutions of higher education, within the framework of socioeconomic globalization and regional decentralization processes. The discussion focuses on how this relationship generates flaws in the market due to the role played by higher education as an intermediary between job applicants and those offering employment and professional opportunities; and due also to the fact that higher education institutions have their own objectives, which differ from those of the market. The article states the need to acknowledge and overcome the limitations which the concentration of income imposes on Latin American students’ access to this educational level and their continuance in it. The paper also stresses the need for a closer connection between academic and job practices through curricular changes and the certification of knowledge that will be useful on the job. This would allow a better correlation with the productive sector, in that it would improve the absorption of graduates.

The identification, recruitment and nurturing of future scholars is of vital importance for the renewal of the academic profession. This paper discusses the influence of the college experience on students’ decisions to pursue an academic career. Taking into consideration the nature of academic work, it describes the personal qualities most suitable for such a work, as well as the impact the university experience has on them. After discussing the decision of becoming an academic as a vocational choice, the paper ends with some policy recommendations for institutions interested in identifying and supporting students with the potential for going successfully into the academic profession.

This paper systematizes face-to-face tutoring experience and the use of technologies to make audio and written recordings of tutorial sessions with undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students available online. One hundred and three tutorial sessions with 26 students and a single tutor are analyzed; the sessions were recorded by means of a digital pen that recorded sound and writing synchronously. By means of this analysis students’ issues and problems were identified and a model for connecting teaching strategy and the production of hypermedia resources is presented. We contend that it is important to create learning resources to accompany the educational process of tutees. In conclusion the study presents a model for organizing and supporting university level tutoring.

This paper examines the influence of educational fever on the development of the Republic of Korea education and economy in the context of the cultural history of this country. In order to examine this study, the author explains the concept of educational fever and discusses the relation between Confucianism and education zeal. Educational fever and human capitalization in South Korean higher education are analyzed from a comparative viewpoint. The study evaluates the effects and problems of education fever this country’s current higher education, and it concludes that Koreans’ educational fever has been a core factor by which to achieve the development of the national economy as well as the rapid expansion of higher education.
