Foundation: knowledge about cervical cancer helps women understand their personal risk and the importance of taking preventive measures. Objective: determine knowledge about the prevention and incidence of cervical cancer in young adult women. Methods: a descriptive, quantitative and correlational study was carried out on a sample selected under the criteria of nationality and age range. Data were collected through an online survey of 476 women aged 21 to 44 years. The sample corresponded to the universe. A purpose-built questionnaire was used to assess knowledge about cervical cancer. An electronic version of the questionnaire was created using Google Forms and published on the social networks Facebook and LinkedIn. The analysis of the data collected was carried out with descriptive statistical methods and the application of the Pearson chi-square test to calculate the correlations between the variables. The level of significance was taken as p < 0,05. Results: the knowledge of the women surveyed about the prevention and incidence of cervical cancer does not reach a sufficient level. No significant correlation was observed between knowledge and place of residence, economic situation, family history of cervical cancer, center where the cytological examination was performed, use of contraceptives, smoking or vaccination against human papillomavirus. It was found that knowledge was related to age, education, occupation, marital status, frequency of gynecological examinations, frequency of cytology, awareness of one's knowledge and the number of births. Conclusions: despite unlimited access to information, there are still many women who do not go to the gynecologist, do not have cytology and do not know how the Cervical Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Program works in Ecuador.

Adolescence is a human life period characterized by various biological, physical and emotional changes that influence the later adult life. Cervical cancer has medical, socioeconomic, and human significance. It is the most curable, easily diagnosed and even the most preventable of all cancers. Its negative effects are often devastating for the women’ general state of health who acquire it. A bibliographic review of articles was carried out from January to December 2021. The scientific databases used were: Pubmed, Scielo and the Google Scholar search engine. The search was made in national and international articles, with full texts, these were subjected to a critical reading using as theoretical methods: historical-logical analysis and analysis-synthesis and among the empirical ones: documentary analysis. The objective of this review is to show the biological and behavioral conditions that favor the development of cervical cancer in adolescence.

Cancer has diverse effects on adolescent health. Facing the diagnosis is difficult, suffering from this disease opens the door to important changes in self-image, future prospects, daily routines, in addition to the devastating effects on the health of the adolescent and the family. The most frequent reactions are: fear, sadness, anger and uncertainty. Coping with the problem with integrity, affective regulation appearing normal, adaptation to action, calm, search for information and social support, reappraisal or cognitive restructuring and distraction are coping strategies suggested for coping with the disease. The intervention of psychology as a specialty allows clarifying, mediating and alleviating the pain of patients and families, it is essential, since it deals with the emotional responses of patients, their families and the medical team.

El cáncer de vesícula biliar es poco frecuente. Su pronóstico está relacionado con la detección temprana y el grado de penetración de la neoplasia en la pared vesicular. Este carcinoma presenta elevada mortalidad, por lo que realizar el diagnóstico precoz es una necesidad imperiosa. Se presenta el caso de un paciente de 81 años de edad con antecedentes patológicos personales de diabetes mellitus tipo II e hipertensión arterial bajo tratamiento regular medicamentoso. Este paciente ingresó en el Servicio de Medicina Interna pues desde hacía un mes presentaba un cuadro de aumento de volumen abdominal e ictericia generalizada, acompañada de dolor moderado en hipocondrio derecho de aparición postprandial inmediato que aliviaba con la administración de analgésicos habituales. El último mes se acompañó de vómitos escasos, astenia marcada, pérdida del apetito, disnea intensa permanente y tos húmeda con expectoración amarillenta, se constató ascitis de moderada cuantía. La gravedad del paciente no permitió avanzar en el estudio de su caso. La necropsia concluyó con diagnóstico de carcinoma primario de células escamosas de vesícula biliar, entidad esta que constituye una rareza en nuestro medio, razón por la que se realiza la presentación del caso.

Cancer in the gallbladder is infrequent. Its prognosis is related to the early detection and the degree of its penetration in the bladder wall. This carcinoma presents a high mortality therefore early diagnosis in a vital need. A case of an 81 year old patient is presented, with antecedents of type II diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure on permanent drug treatment. The patient was admitted to the internal medicine ward due to an increase of abdominal volume and generalized icterus, accompanied by a mild pain over the right hypochondria which appeared immediately after eating and relived with common analgesics. During the last month it was accompanied by a few vomits, marked asthenia, loss of appetite, intense and permanent dyspnea, and productive cough with yellowish expectoration and a moderate ascites. The severity of the illness did not allow finishing the case study. Clinical necropsy confirmed a diagnosis of primary gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma. This medical condition is an odd in our context reason for which the case is presented.

Fundamento: el estudio citológico es el más importante en los programas de detección precoz de cáncer cervicouterino, siendo la atipia de células escamosas de significado indeterminado la anomalía más frecuente encontrada. Objetivo: determinar la incidencia de atipia de células escamosas de significado indeterminado en la consulta de patología de cuello del Hospital Universitario Ginecobstétrico Mariana Grajales de la provincia Villa Clara. Método: se realizó un estudio de tipo transversal en el que el universo estuvo constituido por las 206 pacientes remitidas a la consulta de patología de cuello durante el año 2011, la muestra fue de 120 mujeres que en el libro de registro de citologías orgánicas del departamento de anatomía patológica del Hospital, contaban con la totalidad de los datos requeridos con un reporte de células escamosas atípicas de significado indeterminado. Las variables estudiadas fueron: edad en años cumplidos al momento del diagnóstico, la edad en años de las primeras relaciones sexuales y el número de partos. Se confeccionó un fichero de datos en Excel donde se realizaron los cálculos necesarios. Se emplearon números absolutos y porcentajes para resumir las variables cualitativas y media, desviación estándar, valores mínimos y máximos para las cuantitativas. Resultados: se obtuvo una incidencia de células escamosas atípicas de significado indeterminado de un 0,37 %, predominó en las mujeres mayores de 40 y menores de 50 años, la mayoría inició sus relaciones sexuales antes de los 20 años y tuvieron 2 hijos. Conclusión: la incidencia de reportes de células escamosas atípicas durante el período de tiempo estudiado fue baja, predominó en mujeres de mediana edad, en aquellas que iniciaron sus primeras relaciones sexuales de manera precoz y en las multíparas.

Cervix cancer constitutes one of the first causes of death for cancer in women in most poor and developing countries. It is, however, a preventable, treatable and potentially curable by organizational measures and early diagnosis. This disease has been associate to multiple risk factors, but with the improvement in the papilloma virus detection it was demonstrated that 98 % of the cases detected is due to this virus. New therapeutic strategies focus on molecular targets, inmunotherapy and the combination of these and old treatments as chemio-radio-therapy. Once again the issue of economy in cancer treatment is present, new therapies are highly expensive. Some countries, even when they allocate important budgets to their sanitary systems, do not have access to them.

El cáncer, es uno de los principales problemas de Salud Pública; a pesar de todos los avances en su investigación y tratamiento, cada año mueren más de 6 millones de personas en todo el mundo. Esta situación es crítica, por lo que deben implementarse estrategias preventivas, de lo contrario la Organización Mundial de la Salud advierte que para el año 2025 habrá 15,5 millones de casos nuevos.
