- Abstract
The article focuses on the importance of the Spanish Netherlands for Great Britain between 1600 and 1630. The article states that the emergence of this new territorial entity in the 16th and 17th centuries which aimed for a kind of autonomy from the Spanish power changed the diplomatic situation in Europe. According to the article, that period was profitable for the Spanish Netherlands but not for England, under the reign of James I, from 1603 to 1625, and Charles I, from 1625 to 1649. The author also states that the archdukes of the Spanish Netherlands represented quality artistic agents for James I and Charles I.
