Background: E-learning is a modern and flexible mode of education and is being used as an alternative to conventional mode of education during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. However evidence suggests that effectiveness of e-learning is influenced by many prevailing factors. Methods: A cross sectional study aimed to evaluate health care students’ perception towards implementation of e-learning was conducted for a period of 4 months, from April 2020 to July 2020. Research instrument consisted of a self-designed, qualitative questionnaire with three domains was validated using field pretest method and administered among health care students of King Khalid University using social media platforms. The main aim of the topically applied drugs is to provide local drug contact to the skin and minimize general absorption of drugs. Ocimum basilicum (OB) is popular for folk medicines, having official acceptance in many countries. The aim of this study was to formulate and evaluate the efficacy of topical application of OB-based emulgel on wound healing in animal model. The prepared formulations (OB emulgel) were assessed for FTIR analysis, stability studies, physical appearance, rheological behavior, spreadability, patch/sensitivity test and in vitro drug release. The in vivo wound healing effect was evaluated and compared with commercially available Silver Sulfadiazine cream Quench® in wound-induced rabbits by macroscopic and histopathological evidence. The OB extract/drug was compatible with the selected polymer and other excipients and indicated the suitability of the polymers/excipients for preparation of topical emulgel. The formulated OB emulgel exhibited good physical properties. The release profile of emulgel was satisfactory and released 81.71 ± 1.7% of the drug in 250 min. This study was conducted to formulate, characterize, and investigate the bioavailability of hydrocortisone (HCT) when prepared as solid dispersions. HCT was mixed in an organic solvent with polyethylene glycol 4000 (PEG 4000) and Kolliphor® P 407. Spray drying technique was employed to form a solid dispersion formulation at a specific ratio. Physical and chemical characterization of the formed particles were achieved using differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffractometry. Furthermore, comparative in vitro and in vivo studies were conducted between the formulated particles against neat HCT. The formulated solid dispersion showed elongated particles with leaf-like structure. Formation of new chemical bonds in the formed particle was suggested due to the change in the vibrational wave numbers and the significant improvement in the bioavailability of the dispersed particles proved the importance of this technique. Introduction: Although all implemented and ongoing initiatives, drug-drug interactions (DDIs) are still a global problem. Most published studies about DDIs in Saudi Arabia are carried out in hospital settings. In addition, assessing the knowledge of drug interactions in Saudi Arabia is limited. The aim of our study is to evaluate the knowledge of potential common drug-drug interactions among community pharmacists particularly in Saudi Arabia. Methodology: A crosses-sectional study utilizing a self- administered questionnaire was conducted among community pharmacy in Riyadh city Saudi Arabia. DDIs' knowledge was assessed by 26 drug pairs. Community pharmacists were asked to select the DDIs as “contraindication”, “may be used together with monitoring”, “no interaction” and “not sure”. Results: A total of 283 of community pharmacists completed the survey with response rate of 80.9%. Among the 26 drug pairs only 5 of them were identified correctly by most of the participants. To add more 3 out of the 5 pairs had a cutoff of less than 10% between the correct and wrong answer, meaning there still a majority that couldn't identify the correct answer. All the 26 pairs had a statistically significant difference between the correct and incorrect answer. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that knowledge of community pharmacists about DDIs was inadequate. Community pharmacist should have specific courses in drug interactions to cover the most possible interactions that can be seen in this setting. Keywords: Drug-drug interaction, Community pharmacist

Apigenin (APG) is a poorly soluble bioactive compound/nutraceutical which shows poor bioavailability upon oral administration. Hence, the objective of this research work was to develop APG solid dispersions (SDs) using different techniques with the expectation to obtain improvement in its in vitro dissolution rate and in vivo bioavailability upon oral administration. Different SDs of APG were prepared by microwave, melted and kneaded technology using pluronic-F127 (PL) as a carrier. Prepared SDs were characterized using “thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectrometer, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)”. After characterization, prepared SDs of APG were studied for in vitro drug release/dissolution profile and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies. The results of TGA, DSC, FTIR, PXRD and SEM indicated successful formation of APG SDs. In vitro dissolution experiments suggested significant release of APG from all SDs (67.39–84.13%) in comparison with control (32.74%). Optimized SD of APG from each technology was subjected to in vivo pharmacokinetic study in rats. The results indicated significant improvement in oral absorption of APG from SD prepared using microwave and melted technology in comparison with pure drug and commercial capsule. The enhancement in oral bioavailability of APG from microwave SD (319.19%) was 3.19 fold as compared with marketed capsule (100.00%). Significant enhancement in the dissolution rate and oral absorption of APG from SD suggested that developed SD systems can be successfully used for oral drug delivery system of APG. Background: Community pharmacists (CPs) are the most accessible health care provider to the public, and they have huge duties to improve medication use especially among the pregnant women in their community. The objective of this study was to evaluate knowledge of CPs about the medication safety during pregnancy. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional survey was carried out over practicing community pharmacists in a capital of Saudi Arabia (SA). Pharmacists were asked about the safety of each medicine during pregnancy. It involved both prescription-only medications (POM) and over-the-counter (OTC) medications. Both descriptive and analytic statistics were utilized. For descriptive analysis, results were expressed as numbers, percentages and mean (±SD and 95% CI). Results: The response rate was (71.1%). Most of the respondents (69.6%) believed that alprazolam is not safe while 22% of respondents believed that it is used on basis of risk-benefit assessment. Also, most of CPs (65.2%) said that amoxicillin is safe, but a very few of CPs (11.7%) knew that tetracycline should be used only if potential benefits may outweigh the risk. Among non-prescribed analgesics, majority of CPs (92.6%) knew that acetaminophen is safe. About dietary supplements, 48.4% of CPs reported that Vitamin A supplements are not safe. There was significant difference observed between age groups of CPs in scores of knowledge test (P = 0.001). Conclusion: Community Pharmacists are the most accessible health care providers who can help pregnant women with their medications use there are still gaps in knowledge where educational interventions are needed.

Purpose: Saudi Arabia is one of the leading nations in the world in terms of the high frequency of chronic diseases and their associated risk factors. Knowledge and awareness are crucial for pharmacists to play an active role in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The current study assessed the pharmacists' knowledge, attitude, and practice to determine the potential differences with respect to their respective practice settings toward CVD prevention and related health promotions. Methods: It is a cross-sectional study targeted the registered pharmacists in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. An online questionnaire was prepared, and the link was circulated through various social media platforms. Descriptive statistics, multivariate linear regression analysis and chi square test were used to analyze the data accordingly. Results: A total of 324 pharmacists were included in the study. Among these, 157 (48.4 %) were community pharmacists, and the remaining were hospital pharmacists (51.6 %). No significant differences in knowledge scores were observed between community and hospital pharmacists. The mean attitude score among community and hospital pharmacists was found to be 26.40 ± 5.125 and 25.09 ± 5.393 respectively, which was statistically significant (p = 0.026). Similarly, the total practice scores across the settings were statistically significant (p = 0.02). Gender plays a significant role in terms of knowledge scores among both community and hospital pharmacists (p = 0.016 & 0.029). Gender, professional practice experience, and number of prescriptions handled and prescriptions with CVD medications showed significant differences in the distribution of positive attitudes and good practice frequency between community and hospital pharmacists. Conclusion: It is evident that there is a deficiency in knowledge among hospital pharmacists compared to community pharmacists. Which indicates that there is a need for a rigorous continuous pharmacy education covering the fundamental aspects of CVD primary prevention and health promotion among pharmacists, given more focus on hospital pharmacists.
