Abstract The exploration and development of the dual-provenance lower assemblage of the Yanchang Formation in the Jiyuan area has progressed rapidly. At the intersection of this bidirectional provenance system, a complex and variable spatial combination of sand bodies formed, resulting in significant structural heterogeneity in the development and distribution of reservoirs. Based on previous studies, this paper combines core data and logging data with a large number of analytical tests and production performance data to carry out research on the Chang 82–Chang 9 reservoir group in the lower assemblage of the Yanchang Formation in the Shijiawan-Buziwan area. Based on the analysis of sedimentary conditions, the sand body development pattern at the intersection of the bidirectional sedimentary system in the study area was analysed by stepwise dissection of the sand body architecture. After the types and characteristics of the 4th- to 5th-level architectural elements were determined, the spatial distribution of the combinations of these elements was assessed and combined with logging discriminant analysis and geometric shape prediction methods to identify a ‘prism’ architectural distribution pattern. The architectural elements are connected with the distribution of diagenetic facies, the spatial distribution patterns of different types of diagenetic facies under the constraints of the architecture are summarized by region, and the locations of potential favourable reservoir development are discussed. The results show that the degree of superposition and combination of the eight skeletal architectural elements in the target layers gradually deteriorate from the bottom to the top. In addition, the development scale and degree of architectural elements in the braided river delta system in the west are better than those in the meandering river delta system in the east. In the different sedimentary areas, the spatial combination styles of the architectural elements are quite different, and the combination of these elements gradually changes from a combination of braided channels (FA1) and abandoned channels (FA2) to a combination of underwater distributary channels (FA4). Matching of the distribution of diagenetic facies with the distribution of architectural elements reveals that the diagenetic facies dominated by intergranular pores and dissolution pores (associated with good reservoir physical properties) are usually found at the bottom or in the lower to middle parts of the skeletal architectural elements.

Abstract This study aimed to explore the risk factors of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-related venous thromboembolism (CRT) in patients with hematological malignancies and the predictive ability of the thrombotic risk assessment models (RAMs). The clinical data of the 117 eligible patients with hematological neoplasms at Mianyang Central Hospital with PICC from May 2018 to May 2020 were analyzed in this retrospective study. Thrombosis risk scores were calculated in patients with image-confirmed PICC-related thromboembolism. CRT occurred in 19 cases. Compared to the CRT-free group, the CRT group was older and showed higher body mass index (BMI), leukocyte count level, and the prevalence of diabetes mellitus. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that BMI (P = 0.03) was a significant risk factor for CRT. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the Caprini scale (P = 0.01) was higher than that of the modified Wells scale (P = 0.94), the revised Geneva scale (P = 0.83), Padua scale (P = 0.59), and Michigan scale (P = 0.80). The sensitivity and specificity for the Caprini scale, Padua scale, modified Wells scale, the revised Geneva scale, and Michigan risk score were 63.3%/73.7%, 100%/0.00%, 95.9%/5.3%, 31.6%/73.7%, and 1.0%/99.0%, respectively. Caprini RAM had a better predictive ability for CRT in patients with hematological malignancies. Michigan risk score may not be better than Caprini RAM in this population.

Abstract The hormone renin plays a crucial role in the regulation of blood pressure and fluid-electrolyte homeostasis. Normally, renin is synthesized by juxtaglomerular (JG) cells, a specialized group of myoepithelial cells located near the entrance to the kidney glomeruli. In response to low blood pressure and/or a decrease in extracellular fluid volume (as it occurs during dehydration, hypotension, or septic shock) JG cells respond by releasing renin to the circulation to reestablish homeostasis. Interestingly, renin-expressing cells also exist outside of the kidney, where their function has remained a mystery. We discovered a unique type of renin-expressing B-1 lymphocyte that may have unrecognized roles in defending the organism against infections. These cells synthesize renin, entrap and phagocyte bacteria and control bacterial growth. The ability of renin-bearing lymphocytes to control infections—which is enhanced by the presence of renin—adds a novel, previously unsuspected dimension to the defense role of renin-expressing cells, linking the endocrine control of circulatory homeostasis with the immune control of infections to ensure survival.

Abstract Due to their mechanical and physical properties, aluminium alloys possess wide potential in the automotive industry, particularly in hot reciprocating applications such as pistons for diesel and petrol engines. WS2 particle-reinforced composites could bring further improvements by reducing friction and wear between moving parts. Reducing friction improves efficiency by lowering energy/fuel use, ultimately leading to lower greenhouse gas emissions, while antiwear properties can prolong component life. This study compares for the first time the tribological performance of powder metallurgy-consolidated Al composites reinforced with either IF- or 2H-WS2 particles, so as to elucidate their mechanism of action in test conditions similar to those encountered in engine applications. The composites were tested in lubricated reciprocating contacts against AISI52100 steel balls and the impact of WS2 could be seen at both 25 and 100 °C. The reduced friction and wear at ambient temperature is due to the predominantly physical mechanism of action of WS2, while the best antiwear performance is measured at elevated (standard operating engine) temperatures that promote the chemical reaction of WS2 with the aluminium matrix. The investigation focused on studying the wear tracks/scars and the tribofilms generated on the composite and ball with optical profilometry, SEM, XPS and Auger spectroscopy.

Abstract Fermentation process plays an important role in the biochemical properties and quality of cigar tobacco leaves (CTLs). In industry, exogenous additive (EA) was usually adopted for improving the quality of CTLs during fermentation. However, the mechanism of enhanced quality of CTLs fermented with EA was confused. Herein, the chemical compositions and microbial communities of CTLs during fermentation with EA were analyzed. The increased contents of total nitrogen and total sugar, as well as the improved consumption rate of reducing sugar in CTLs were found with the addition of EA. Besides, fermentation with EA reduced the content of total nonvolatile organic acid, especially unsaturated fatty acid. The contents of total and several representative aroma components were improved. Additionally, the increased abundance of Staphylococcus and decreased abundance of Aspergillus were detected. Combined with the changes of chemical compositions and microbial communities, it was confirmed that the carbohydrates and alcohols originated from EA promote the enrichment of Staphylococcus and accelerate biochemical reactions, such as Maillard reaction and esterification reaction, thus improving the contents and quality of aroma components in CTLs. This study demonstrated the mechanism of enhanced quality of CTLs fermented by EA, which provides more ideas for developing novel and efficient EAs.

Far-field spectroscopy and mapping of electromagnetic near-field distribution are the two dominant tools for analysis and characterization of the electromagnetic response in nanophotonics. Despite the widespread use, these methods can fail at identifying weak electromagnetic excitations masked by stronger neighboring excitations. This is particularly problematic in ultrafast nanophotonics, including optical sensing, nonlinear optics and nanolasers, where the broad resonant modes can overlap to a significant degree. Here, using plasmonic metamaterials, we demonstrate that coherent spectroscopy can conveniently isolate and detect such hidden high-order photonic excitations. Our results establish that the coherent spectroscopy is a powerful new tool. It complements the conventional methods for analysis of the electromagnetic response, and provides a new route to designing and characterizing novel photonic devices and materials. The lignocellulose degradation capacity of filamentous fungi has been widely studied because of their cellulase hypersecretion. The p24 proteins in eukaryotes serve important functions in this secretory pathway. However, little is known about the functions of the p24 proteins in filamentous fungi. In this study, four p24 proteins were identified in Penicillium oxalicum. Six p24 double-deletion strains were constructed, and further studies were carried out with the ΔerpΔpδ strain. The experimental results suggested that Erp and Pδ form a p24 heterodimer in vivo. This p24 heterodimer participates in important morphogenetic events, including sporulation, hyphal growth, and lateral branching. The results suggested that the p24 heterodimer mediates protein transport, particularly that of cellobiohydrolase. Analysis of the intracellular proteome revealed that the ΔerpΔpδ double mutant is under secretion stress due to attempts to remove proteins that are jammed in the endomembrane system. These results suggest that the p24 heterodimer participates in morphogenesis and protein transport. Compared with P. oxalicum Δerp, a greater number of cellular physiological pathways were impaired in ΔerpΔpδ. This finding may provide new insights into the secretory pathways of filamentous fungi. A total of 142 premenopausal women with symptomatic adenomyosis underwent ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (PMWA) at the Chinese PLA General Hospital. This study aimed to evaluate changes in serum pituitary, gonadal hormone and cancer antigen 125 (CA125) levels after US-guided PMWA. Therefore, estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin (PRL) and CA125 levels were evaluated before ablation and at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after ablation. No significant differences were observed in the E2 and FSH levels pre-ablation and during follow-up (E2: p = 0.933, p = 0.987, p = 0.106, p = 0.936; FSH: p = 0.552, p = 0.295, p = 0.414, p = 0.760). The mean absolute values of serum CA125 and PRL were significantly decreased at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months after ablation (CA125: p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p = 0.003; PRL: p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p < 0.001, p < 0.001). A significant correlation between changes in CA125 levels and uterine volume was found (p < 0.001). No evidence of a decline in ovarian function was observed after US-guided PMWA. Abstract The non-ergodic extended (NEE) regime in physical and random matrix (RM) models has attracted a lot of attention in recent years. Formally, NEE regime is characterized by its fractal wavefunctions and long-range spectral correlations such as number variance or spectral form factor. More recently, it’s proposed that this regime can be conveniently revealed through the eigenvalue spectra by means of singular-value-decomposition (SVD), whose results display a super-Poissonian behavior that reflects the minibands structure of NEE regime. In this work, we employ SVD to a number of RM models, and show it not only qualitatively reveals the NEE regime, but also quantitatively locates the ergodic-NEE transition point. With SVD, we further suggest the NEE regime in a new RM model–the sparse RM model.

Abstract Global warming has led to frequent droughts, posing challenges for afforestation in arid and semiarid regions. In search of labor-saving and money-saving methods to improve the survival and growth rates of trees in these regions, we isolated and identified fungal endophytes that can potentially enhance the drought-resistance abilities of seedlings. We isolated 93 endophytic strains from the roots of Pinus tabulaeformis trees grown on an arid cliff. Three isolates increased the drought resistance of the tree seedlings. Using morphological, molecular, and physiological-biochemical methods, we identified three isolates as different clones of a strain of Phoma spp. and studied the strain’s effect on stress resistance-related substances in the seedlings. The results showed that the strain improved drought tolerance and increased the seedlings’ proline levels and antioxidant enzyme activities. The strain also secreted abundant extracellular abscisic acid, which likely triggered the seedlings’ protective mechanisms. This endophytic strain may provide a cheaper labor-saving, sustainable alternative to traditional methods of enhancing drought resistance.

Abstract A new acylphloroglucinol with a novel architecture including an unprecedented dearomatic dibenzofuran core, named callistemenonone A (1), was isolated from the leaves of Callistemon viminalis (Myrtaceae). The structure was fully characterized on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including UV, HRESIMS, as well as 1D and 2D NMR spectral data (HSQC, HMBC, and ROESY). The deduced structure represents the first example of a natural dibenzofuran with two phenyl moieties coupling through tertiary hydroxy and ketal carbons. A plausible biogenetic pathway involving oxidative coupling and dearomatization as key steps is proposed to account for the biosynthesis of this novel class of dibenzofuran. Moreover, antimicrobial assays, in conjunction with the time-killing and biophysical studies, revealed that 1 exerted potent bactericidal activity against a panel of methicillin resistant pathogenic microbes with a unique mechanism.

A fundamental strategy to enhance optical transmission through a continuous metallic film based on strong interference dominated by interface phase shift is developed. In a metallic film coated with a thin semiconductor film, both transmission and absorption are simultaneously enhanced as a result of dramatically reduced reflection. For a 50-nm-thick Ag film, experimental transmission enhancement factors of 4.5 and 9.5 are realized by exploiting Ag/Si non-symmetric and Si/Ag/Si symmetric geometries, respectively. These planar layered films for transmission enhancement feature ultrathin thickness, broadband and wide-angle operation, and reduced resistance. Considering one of their potential applications as transparent metal electrodes in solar cells, a calculated 182% enhancement in the total transmission efficiency relative to a single metallic film is expected. This strategy relies on no patterned nanostructures and thereby may power up a wide spectrum of energy-harvesting applications such as thin-film photovoltaics and surface photocatalysis.

Here we report a compact multilayer film structure for angle robust color filtering, which is verified by theoretical calculations and experiment results. The introduction of the amorphous silicon in the proposed unsymmetrical resonant cavity greatly reduces the angular sensitivity of the filters, which is confirmed by the analysis of the phase shift within the structure. The temperature of the substrate during the deposition is expressly investigated to obtain the best optical performance with high peak reflectance and good angle insensitive color filtering by compromising the refractive index of dielectric layer and the surface roughness of the multilayer film. And the outlayer of the structure, worked as the anti-reflection layer, have an enormous impact on the filtering performance. This method, described in this paper, can have enormous potential for diverse applications in display, colorful decoration, anti-counterfeiting and so forth.

Despite the important role of MAPKs in signal transduction, their functions in the cellulase hyper-producing filamentous fungus Hypocrea jecorina haven't been studied except for the Hog1-like Tmk3. In this work, we constructed and explored the features of H. jecorina Δtmk2 to identify the role of this Slt2-homologous Tmk2. It is suggested from the results that Tmk2 is involved in cell wall integrity, sporulation and cellulase production. Although bearing similar roles in cell wall integrity maintenance, Tmk2 and Tmk3 appear to also have distinct functions: Tmk3 participates in high osmolarity resistance while Tmk2 does not; Tmk2 participates in sporulation but not Tmk3; Tmk3 is involved in promoting cellulase production while Tmk2 is involved in repressing cellulase formation. These studies provide the first insight into the function of Tmk2 in H. jecorina and contribute to understanding the signal transduction processes leading to the regulation of cellulase production in this important cellulase hyper-producer.

Eighty eight patients with 91 uterine leiomyomas who underwent ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (PMWA) treatment were prospectively included in the study in order to study the dose-effect relationship parameters (DERP) of PMWA for uterine leiomyomas and its relationship with T2-weighted MR imaging (T2WI). Based on the signal intensity of T2WI, uterine leiomyomas were classified as hypointense, isointense, and hyperintense. During ablation, leiomyomas were treated with quantitative microwave ablation (QMWA) energy of 50 w × 300 s or 60 w × 300 s. After QMWA, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) was performed to evaluate DERP. No matter under 50 w × 300 s or 60 w × 300 s, quantitative microwave ablation volume (QMAV) of hyperintense leiomyoma was smaller than that of hypointense and isointense leiomyoma (P<0.016). For hypointense and isointense leiomyoma, QMAV of 60 w × 300 s was larger than that of 50 w × 300 s (P<0.05). DERPs obtained by T2WI can be used to guide the treatment of uterine leiomyoma by PMWA.
