Fish are poikilothermic vertebrates and their physiological activities are affected by water temperature. In recent years, extreme weather has occurred frequently, and temperature changes have adversely affected the growth of farmed fish. To explore the changes in gill tissue structure caused by changing the water temperature and the relationship between the intestinal microbiota and the Leiocassis longirostris host adaptation mechanism, gill tissue sections and intestinal microbial 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing were conducted under different temperature stress (low temperature 4 °C, normal temperature 26 °C and high temperature 32 °C). The results showed that heat stress and cold stress caused injury and swelling, terminal congestion, cell vacuolation, and necrosis of the gill tissue of L. longirostris. For intestinal microbiota, the abundances of Pseudomonadota and Bacillota increased at the cold stress, while the abundances of Fusobacteriota and Bacteroidota increased at the heat stress. The number of opportunistic bacteria, mainly Aeromonas and Acinetobacter, was the highest under cold stress. In addition, the richness of the intestinal microbiota decreased significantly at heat and cold stresses, while evenness increased. Prediction of intestinal microbiota function showed that most common functions, such as metabolism of cofactors and vitamins, energy metabolism and replication and repair, were decreased significantly at heat stress and cold stress, and phylogenetic relationship analysis revealed significant differences among the groups. In conclusion, the change of temperature altered the gill tissue structure, and affected the structure and homeostasis of the intestinal microbiota, thus affecting the survival time of L. longirostris, and cold stress had a greater effect than heat stress. Intestinal microorganisms that living in the mucosa and contents of the gastrointestinal tract of animals, have close links with their hosts over a long evolutionary history. The community structure of the fish intestinal microbiota is associated with food, living environment, and the growth stage. To screen for potential probiotics that can be used for regulating breeding behaviors, this study focused on the diversity of fish intestinal microorganisms. This study aimed to investigate the effects of sex and body weight on the intestinal microbial diversity of Gymnocypris chilianensis in the wild. The results showed that the significant high diversity and richness of intestinal microbiota were fould in heavier individuals, and males. The dominant bacterial phyla of G. chilianensis were Proteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Bacteroidetes. In addition, the abundance of Firmicutes varied significantly among different body weights. The genus profile revealed that small individuals were dominated by Weissella, while females were dominated by Aeromonas, and both large individuals and males were dominated by other genera. Phylogenetic relationships and UPGMA clustering analysis showed significant differences among the groups. This paper examined the effects of no treatment versus plasma treatment, and femtosecond laser irradiation as pre-annealing processes on indium zinc oxide (IZO) films and annealing at high temperatures. The plasma pre-annealed multilayer stacked IZO TFTs showed better electrical properties with mobility enhancement from 2.45 to 7.81 cm2/Vs, but exhibited diminished on–off current ratio (Ion/Ioff). The IZO thin-film transistor (TFT) prepared with femtosecond laser pre-annealing with low pulse energy generation (power of 3 W at 700 nm wavelength) for 100 s has also exhibited significantly improved electrical performance, the saturation mobility increased to 4.91 cm2/Vs, the Ion/Ioff ratio was enhanced from 4.5 × 105 to 2.1 × 106, the threshold voltage improved from − 1.44 to − 0.25 V, and the subthreshold swing was reduced from 1.21 to 0.61 V/dec. In conclusion, IZO TFTs with improved performance can be prepared using a femtosecond laser pre-annealing process, which has great potential for fabricating low-cost, high-performance devices. The aim of our study was to investigate waist circumference (WC) change and the risk of incident chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) among Chinese adults. A total of 8164 participants aged > 18 years who attended health examinations with repeat measurements of WC and lung function [forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in 1 s (FEV1)] from 2010 to 2019 were recruited. WC change was categorized as ≤ − 2.5%, − 2.5 to 2.5%, 2.5% to 5% and > 5% according to sex. Modified Poisson regression models were used to assess the association of WC gain and the risk of COPD. During the 10-year follow-up, a total of 917 COPD cases were identified. From baseline to follow-up, the mean FEV1 decreased from 3.20 to 2.79L among male participants and 2.28–1.95L among female participants. Compared with participants who did not have abdominal obesity, at either, baseline or follow-up, participants with abdominal obesity of both sexes after the follow-up were associated with a greater risk of COPD regardless of abdominal obesity at baseline. The risk of incident COPD increased 19% among male participants (RR = 1.19, 95%CI = 1.04–1.48) and 14% among female participants (RR = 1.14, 95%CI = 1.01–1.40) when WC gain increased > 5% during the 10-year follow-up. The COPD risk decreased 18% among male participants with a WC change ≤ − 2.5% (RR = 0.82, 95%CI = 0.67–0.99). Chongqing is one of the five provinces in China that has the highest incidence of acute hemorrhagic conjunctivitis (AHC). Data of AHC cases from 2004 to 2018 were obtained from National Notifiable Diseases Reporting Information System (NNDRIS). Descriptive statistical methods were used to analyze the epidemiological characteristics; incidence maps were used to reflect incidence trends in each district; spatial autocorrelation was used to identify hotspot regions and spatiotemporal patterns of AHC outbreaks; spatiotemporal scan were conducted to identify AHC clusters. A total of 30,686 cases were reported with an annual incidence of 7.04 per 100,000. The incidence rates were high in 2007 and 2014, and large epidemics were observed in 2010 with the seasonal peak in September. Individuals aged 10–19 years, males, students and farmers were the prime high-risk groups. Except for 2012 and 2013, the spatial distribution of AHC did not exhibit significant global spatial autocorrelation. Local indicators of spatial association showed that the high-risk regions are Chengkou and Wuxi. The spatiotemporal scan indicated that all clusters occurred in September 2010, and the high-incidence clusters were mainly distributed in the northeast of Chongqing. Oxidative stress has been associated with the etipathogenesis of Diabetic retinopathy (DR). Studies have shown that DJ-1 plays an important role in regulating the reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and resistance to oxidative stress-induced apoptosis. This study aimed to investigate whether DJ-1 upregulates oxidative stress and prevents damage to retinal capillary pericytes by increasing antioxidant capacity through the Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathway. Nrf2 is a redox-sensitive transcription factor that encode antioxidant enzymes and phase II metabolic enzymes, activation of Nrf2 functions is one of the critical defensive mechanisms against oxidative stress in many tissues. Our results showed after DJ-1 overexpression, apoptosis of rat retinal pericytes (RRPs) decreased, the ratio of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) to BCL2-Associated X Protein (BAX) increased, the production of ROS decreased, and the protein expression and activity of manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD, also called SOD2) and catalase (CAT) increased. DJ-1 overexpression activated Nrf2 expression, however, after Nrf2 silencing, apoptosis of RRPs increased, the ratio of Bcl-2 to BAX decreased, the production of ROS increased, the protein expression of MnSOD and CAT decreased, and the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), NADP(H) quinone oxidoreductase (NQO1), glutamate-cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (GCLC) and modifier subunit (GCLM) decreased. These data suggest that enhancement of the Nrf2 pathway is a potential protective strategy for the treatment of DR. Therefore, DJ-1 may prevent high glucose-induced oxidative stress and RRPs apoptosis through the Nrf2 signaling pathway, thereby preventing the early onset and progression of DR. Interword spaces exist in the texts of many languages that use alphabetic writing systems. In most cases, interword spaces, as a kind of word boundary information, play an important role in the reading process of readers. Tibetan also uses alphabetic writing, its text has no spaces between words as word boundary markers. Instead, there are intersyllable tshegs (" "), which are superscript dots. Interword spaces play an important role in reading as word boundary information. Therefore, it is interesting to investigate the role of tshegs and what effect replacing tshegs with spaces will have on Tibetan reading. To answer these questions, Experiment 1 was conducted in which 72 Tibetan undergraduates read three-syllable-boundary conditions (normal, spaced, and untsheged). However, in Experiment 1, because we performed the experimental operations of deleting tshegs and replacing tshegs, the spatial information distribution of Tibetan sentences under different operating conditions was different, which may have a certain potential impact on the experimental results. To rule out the underlying confounding factor, in Experiment 2, 58 undergraduates read sentences for both untsheged and alternating-color conditions. Overall, the global and local analyses revealed that tshegs, spaces, and alternating-color markers as syllable boundaries can help readers segment syllables in Tibetan reading. Chongqing was seriously affected by hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD), but the relationships between daily mean temperature and the incidence of HFMD remain unclear. This study used distributed lag nonlinear model to evaluate the effect of daily mean temperature on the incidence of HFMD in children aged < 5 years in Chongqing. Daily HFMD data from 2012 to 2019 in Chongqing were retrieved from the notifiable infectious disease surveillance system. A total of 413,476 HFMD cases aged < 5 years were reported in Chongqing from 2012 to 2019. The exposure–response curve of daily mean temperature and daily HFMD cases was wavy-shaped. The relative risks (RRs) increased as daily mean temperature below 5.66 °C or above 9.43 °C, with two peaks at 16.10 °C and 26.68 °C. The RRs reached the highest when the daily mean temperature at 26.68 °C on the current day (RR = 1.20, 95% CI 1.09–1.32), followed by the daily mean temperature at 16.10 °C at lag 5 days (RR = 1.07, 95% CI 1.05–1.08). The RRs for girls and daycare children were much higher than those for boys and scattered children, respectively. Robust light transport is the heart of optical information processing, leading to the search for robust light states by topological engineering of material properties. Here, it is shown that quantum phase transition, rather than topology, can be strategically exploited to design a novel robust light state. We consider an interface between parity-time (PT) symmetric media with different quantum phases and use complex Berry phase to reveal the associated quantum phase transition and topological nature. While the system possesses the same topological order within different quantum phases, phase transition from PT symmetry to PT breaking across the interface in the synthetic non-Hermitian metamaterial system facilitates novel interface states, which are robust against a variety of gain/loss perturbations and topological impurities and disorder. The absolute crystallization ages of minerals from hydrothermal fluids measured in situ can unravel the timing of key events leading to the formation of, for instance, ore deposits and hydrothermally derived geological terrains. In this study, a skarn iron deposit from northwest (NW) China is shown to have U-Pb garnet and U-Pb zircon ages of 254.2 ± 1.7 Ma and 255.5 ± 1.0 Ma, respectively, which are both significantly younger than magmatism and metamorphism of the region. This skarn age instead correlates with the occurrence of strike-slip and thrust faulting in the region. The water/rock mass ratio of 0.065~0.115 suggests the δ18O garnet composition is ~1‰ at temperatures ranging from 250–450 °C. The low oxygen isotopic composition indicates the role of meteoric water in the garnet formation. These measurements can be interpreted as the shear along faults circulating meteoric water ~10 km below the hanging wall of meta-volcanic sedimentary rock. Meteoric water in this hydrothermal system would leach cations from the meta-volcano-sedimentary rocks necessary for mineralization. Silica-rich hydrothermal fluid reacts with calcic-rich materials in the meta-volcano-sedimentary rocks, depositing the garnet and magnetite. Sperm motility is the main index used to assess the quality of bull semen. It may also be used to evaluate the fertility potential of bulls. Protein-coding mRNA and long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) participate in the regulation of spermatogenesis. Here, we employed strand-specific RNA sequencing to profile the semen transcriptome (mRNA and lncRNA) of six paired full-sibling Holstein bulls with divergent sperm motility and to determine the functions of mRNA and lncRNA in sperm motility. Among 20,875 protein-encoding genes detected in semen, 19 were differentially expressed between the high sperm motility group (H: H1, H2, and H3) and low sperm motility group (L: L1, L2, and L3). Of the 11,561 lncRNAs identified in sperm, 2,517 were differentially expressed between the H and L groups. We found that TCONS_00041733 lncRNA targets the node gene EFNA1 (ephrin A1), involved in male reproductive physiology. Our study provides a global mRNA and lncRNA transcriptome of bull semen, as well as novel insights into the regulation of neighboring protein coding by lncRNAs and the influence of mRNAs on sperm motility. A recent genome-wide association study (GWAS) of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in European cohorts has identified six susceptibility loci mapping to 11q22.1 (YAP1), 2p21 (THADA), 11p14.1 (FSHB), 2q34 (ERBB4), 12q21.2 (KRR1), and 5q31.1 (RAD50). The loci of 11q22.1, 2p21 and 11p14.1 have been confirmed to be associated with PCOS in Chinese; whereas the other three new loci (2q34, 12q21.2, and 5q31.1) still need to be evaluated in Chinese. This study was aimed to determine if the three new loci identified in European PCOS also confer risks for PCOS in Han Chinese. We performed a case-control genetic association study comprising 1500 PCOS cases and 1220 age-matched control subjects. Marker SNPs rs1351592 (2q34, ERBB4), rs1275468 (12q21.2, KRR1) and rs13164856 (5q31.1, RAD50) were genotyped using TaqMan-MGB probe assay. Genotyping analysis showed the allele frequency of rs1351592 in gene ERBB4 was significantly different (P = 1.05E-03) between PCOS cases and control group, and remained significant even after BMI adjustment (Padjusted = 2.09E-04). However, the allele frequencies of the other two risk variants, rs1275468 (12q21.2, KRR1) and rs13164856 (5q31.1, RAD50), were not significantly different in the replication cohort. The T-DNA region of pMF1 vector of marker-free system developed by Wageningen UR, has Recombinase R-LBD gene fusion and nptII and codA gene fusion between two recombination sites. After transformation applying dexamethasone (DEX) can activate the recombinase to remove the T-DNA fragment between recombination sites. The recombinant ought to be selected on 5-fluorocytocine (5-FC) because of codA converting 5-FC into 5-fluorouracil the toxic. A PMF1 vector was transformed into hexaploid species Crambe abyssinica. Two independent transformants were chosen for DEX-induced recombination and later 5-FC selection. In contrast to earlier pMF1 experiments, the strategy of stepwise selection based on meristematic regeneration was engaged. After a long period of 5-FC selection, recombinants were obtained successfully, but most of the survivors were wildtype and non-recombinant. The results revealed when applying the PMF1 marker-free system on C. abyssinica, 1) Increasing in the DEX concentration did not correspondingly enhance the success of recombination; 2) both of the DEX-induced recombination and 5-FC negative selection were apparently insufficient which was leading to the extremely high frequency in chimerism occurring for recombinant and non-recombinant cells in tissues; 3) the strategy of stepwise selection based on meristem tissue regeneration was crucial for successfully isolating the recombinant germplasm from the chimera. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder that is proposed to have a genetic basis. A recent genome-wide association study (GWAS) identified eight new risk loci that are independently associated with PCOS. To further validate the findings, a total of 321 case-parent trios (963 participants) who had a proband affected with PCOS were recruited for the family-based study. The transmission disequilibrium test (TDT) was used to analyze associations between PCOS and ten single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) mapped to eight new susceptibility loci. Significant differences in transmission were observed for the SNPs rs2349415 (located in the FSHR gene, P = 0.0001) and rs3802457 (located in the C9orf3 gene, P = 0.0001), even after correction for multiple testing bias. The present data provides further evidence for an association between two susceptibility loci, 2p16.3 and 9q22.32, and PCOS.
