The grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA) is a meta-heuristic algorithm proposed in 2017 mimics the biological behavior of grasshopper swarms seeking food sources in nature for solving optimization problems. Nonetheless, some shortcomings exist in the origin GOA, and GOA global search ability is more or less insufficient and precision also needs to be further improved. Although there are many different GOA variants in the literature, the problem of inefficient and rough precision has still emerged in GOA variants. Aiming at these deficiencies, this paper develops an improved version of GOA with Levy Flight mechanism called LFGOA to alleviate the shortcomings of the origin GOA. The LFGOA algorithm achieved a more suitable balance between exploitation and exploration during searching for the most promising region. The performance of LFGOA is tested using 23 mathematical benchmark functions in comparison with the eight well-known meta-heuristic algorithms and seven real-world engineering problems. The statistical analysis and experimental results show the efficiency of LFGOA. According to obtained results, it is possible to say that the LFGOA algorithm can be a potential alternative in the solution of meta-heuristic optimization problems as it has high exploration and exploitation capabilities. In this paper, a new stochastic optimization algorithm is introduced, called Driving Training-Based Optimization (DTBO), which mimics the human activity of driving training. The fundamental inspiration behind the DTBO design is the learning process to drive in the driving school and the training of the driving instructor. DTBO is mathematically modeled in three phases: (1) training by the driving instructor, (2) patterning of students from instructor skills, and (3) practice. The performance of DTBO in optimization is evaluated on a set of 53 standard objective functions of unimodal, high-dimensional multimodal, fixed-dimensional multimodal, and IEEE CEC2017 test functions types. The optimization results show that DTBO has been able to provide appropriate solutions to optimization problems by maintaining a proper balance between exploration and exploitation. The performance quality of DTBO is compared with the results of 11 well-known algorithms. The complexity of engineering optimization problems is increasing. Classical gradient-based optimization algorithms are a mathematical means of solving complex problems whose ability to do so is limited. Metaheuristics have become more popular than exact methods for solving optimization problems because of their simplicity and the robustness of the results that they yield. Recently, population-based bio-inspired algorithms have been demonstrated to perform favorably in solving a wide range of optimization problems. The jellyfish search optimizer (JSO) is one such bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithm, which is based on the food-finding behavior of jellyfish in the ocean. According to the literature, JSO outperforms many well-known meta-heuristics in a wide range of benchmark functions and real-world applications. JSO can also be used in conjunction with other artificial intelligence-related techniques. The success of JSO in solving diverse optimization problems motivates the present comprehensive discussion of the latest findings related to JSO. This paper reviews various issues associated with JSO, such as its inspiration, variants, and applications, and will provide the latest developments and research findings concerning JSO. The systematic review contributes to the development of modified versions and the hybridization of JSO to improve upon the original JSO and present variants, and will help researchers to develop superior metaheuristic optimization algorithms with recommendations of add-on intelligent agents. In this paper, a new optimization algorithm called hybrid leader-based optimization (HLBO) is introduced that is applicable in optimization challenges. The main idea of HLBO is to guide the algorithm population under the guidance of a hybrid leader. The stages of HLBO are modeled mathematically in two phases of exploration and exploitation. The efficiency of HLBO in optimization is tested by finding solutions to twenty-three standard benchmark functions of different types of unimodal and multimodal. The optimization results of unimodal functions indicate the high exploitation ability of HLBO in local search for better convergence to global optimal, while the optimization results of multimodal functions show the high exploration ability of HLBO in global search to accurately scan different areas of search space. In addition, the performance of HLBO on solving IEEE CEC 2017 benchmark functions including thirty objective functions is evaluated. The optimization results show the efficiency of HLBO in handling complex objective functions. The quality of the results obtained from HLBO is compared with the results of ten well-known algorithms. The simulation results show the superiority of HLBO in convergence to the global solution as well as the passage of optimally localized areas of the search space compared to ten competing algorithms. This paper introduces a new human-based metaheuristic algorithm called Sewing Training-Based Optimization (STBO), which has applications in handling optimization tasks. The fundamental inspiration of STBO is teaching the process of sewing to beginner tailors. The theory of the proposed STBO approach is described and then mathematically modeled in three phases: (i) training, (ii) imitation of the instructor's skills, and (iii) practice. STBO performance is evaluated on fifty-two benchmark functions consisting of unimodal, high-dimensional multimodal, fixed-dimensional multimodal, and the CEC 2017 test suite. The optimization results show that STBO, with its high power of exploration and exploitation, has provided suitable solutions for benchmark functions. The performance of STBO is compared with eleven well-known metaheuristic algorithms. The simulation results show that STBO, with its high ability to balance exploration and exploitation, has provided far more competitive performance in solving benchmark functions than competitor algorithms. This paper introduces a novel variant of the quantum particle swarm optimization algorithm based on the quantum concept of particle-like solitons as the most common solutions of the quantum nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Soliton adaptation in external potentials is one of their most remarkable features which allows them to be stabilized even without a trapping potential, while the potential must be bounded for quantum particles to be localized. So we consider the motion scenario of the present algorithm based on the corresponding probability density function of quantum solitons. To evaluate the efficiency, we examine the proposed algorithm over a set of known benchmark functions, including a selection of test functions with different modalities and dimensions. Moreover, to achieve a more comprehensive conclusion about the performance, we compare it with the results obtained by particle swarm optimization (PSO), standard quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization QPSO, improved sine cosine Algorithm (ISCA), and JAYA optimization algorithm. The numerical experiments reveal that the proposed algorithm is an effective approach to solving optimization problems that provides promising results in terms of better global search capability, high accuracy, and faster convergence rate. Grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA) proposed in 2017 mimics the behavior of grasshopper swarms in nature for solving optimization problems. In the basic GOA, the influence of the gravity force on the updated position of every grasshopper is not considered, which possibly causes GOA to have the slower convergence speed. Based on this, the improved GOA (IGOA) is obtained by the two updated ways of the position of every grasshopper in this paper. One is that the gravity force is introduced into the updated position of every grasshopper in the basic GOA. And the other is that the velocity is introduced into the updated position of every grasshopper and the new position are obtained from the sum of the current position and the velocity. Then every grasshopper adopts its suitable way of the updated position on the basis of the probability. Finally, IGOA is firstly performed on the 23 classical benchmark functions and then is combined with BP neural network to establish the predicted model IGOA-BPNN by optimizing the parameters of BP neural network for predicting the closing prices of the Shanghai Stock Exchange Index and the air quality index (AQI) of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. The experimental results show that IGOA is superior to the compared algorithms in term of the average values and the predicted model IGOA-BPNN has the minimal predicted errors. Simultaneous optimization of several competing objectives requires increasing the capability of optimization algorithms. This paper proposes the multi-objective moth swarm algorithm, for the first time, to solve various multi-objective problems. In the proposed algorithm, a new definition for pathfinder moths and moonlight was proposed to enhance the synchronization capability as well as to maintain a good spread of non-dominated solutions. In addition, the crowding-distance mechanism was employed to select the most efficient solutions within the population. This mechanism indicates the distribution of non-dominated solutions around a particular non-dominated solution. Accordingly, a set of non-dominated solutions obtained by the proposed multi-objective algorithm is kept in an archive to be used later for improving its exploratory capability. The capability of the proposed MOMSA was investigated by a set of multi-objective benchmark problems having 7 to 30 dimensions. The results were compared with three well-known meta-heuristics of multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition (MOEA/D), Pareto envelope-based selection algorithm II (PESA-II), and multi-objective ant lion optimizer (MOALO). Four metrics of generational distance (GD), spacing (S), spread (Δ), and maximum spread (MS) were employed for comparison purposes. The qualitative and quantitative results indicated the superior performance and the higher capability of the proposed MOMSA algorithm over the other algorithms. The MOMSA algorithm with the average values of CPU time = 2771 s, GD = 0.138, S = 0.063, Δ = 1.053, and MS = 0.878 proved to be a robust and reliable model for multi-objective optimization. Metaheuristic algorithms have a wide range of applications in handling optimization problems. In this study, a new metaheuristic algorithm, called the chef-based optimization algorithm (CBOA), is developed. The fundamental inspiration employed in CBOA design is the process of learning cooking skills in training courses. The stages of the cooking training process in various phases are mathematically modeled with the aim of increasing the ability of global search in exploration and the ability of local search in exploitation. A collection of 52 standard objective functions is utilized to assess the CBOA's performance in addressing optimization issues. The optimization results show that the CBOA is capable of providing acceptable solutions by creating a balance between exploration and exploitation and is highly efficient in the treatment of optimization problems. In addition, the CBOA's effectiveness in dealing with real-world applications is tested on four engineering problems. Twelve well-known metaheuristic algorithms have been selected for comparison with the CBOA. In this study, a meta-heuristic algorithm, named The Planet Optimization Algorithm (POA), inspired by Newton's gravitational law is proposed. POA simulates the motion of planets in the solar system. The Sun plays the key role in the algorithm as at the heart of search space. Two main phases, local and global search, are adopted for increasing accuracy and expanding searching space simultaneously. A Gauss distribution function is employed as a technique to enhance the accuracy of this algorithm. POA is evaluated using 23 well-known test functions, 38 IEEE CEC benchmark test functions (CEC 2017, CEC 2019) and three real engineering problems. The statistical results of the benchmark functions show that POA can provide very competitive and promising results. The quantum approximate optimization algorithm (QAOA) generates an approximate solution to combinatorial optimization problems using a variational ansatz circuit defined by parameterized layers of quantum evolution. In theory, the approximation improves with increasing ansatz depth but gate noise and circuit complexity undermine performance in practice. Here, we investigate a multi-angle ansatz for QAOA that reduces circuit depth and improves the approximation ratio by increasing the number of classical parameters. Even though the number of parameters increases, our results indicate that good parameters can be found in polynomial time for a test dataset we consider. This new ansatz gives a 33% increase in the approximation ratio for an infinite family of MaxCut instances over QAOA. The optimal performance is lower bounded by the conventional ansatz, and we present empirical results for graphs on eight vertices that one layer of the multi-angle anstaz is comparable to three layers of the traditional ansatz on MaxCut problems. Similarly, multi-angle QAOA yields a higher approximation ratio than QAOA at the same depth on a collection of MaxCut instances on fifty and one-hundred vertex graphs. Many of the optimized parameters are found to be zero, so their associated gates can be removed from the circuit, further decreasing the circuit depth. These results indicate that multi-angle QAOA requires shallower circuits to solve problems than QAOA, making it more viable for near-term intermediate-scale quantum devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
