Rain is a common weather phenomenon, and the challenge of removing rain streaks from a single image is crucial due to its detrimental impact on image quality and the extraction of valuable background information. Existing methods commonly rely on specific assumptions regarding rain models, which restricts their ability to accommodate a wide range of real-world scenarios. To overcome this limitation, these methods often require complex optimization techniques or stepwise refinement strategies. In this paper, we propose a novel wide rectangular regional block and dual attention complementary enhancement deraining kernel prediction subnet to meet the challenge. The network called WRRDANet consists of a kernel prediction subnet and pixel-wise dilation filtering. In the kernel prediction subnet, we capture more specific contextual background information and complex pixel-wise kernels. Afterward, the learned pixel-wise multi-scale kernels from the kernel prediction subnet are used to perform dilation filtering on the original rainy image, effectively restoring richer background details by expanding the scope of deraining to a larger extent. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation using synthetic and real rainfall datasets to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. Quantum annealing emerges as a promising approach for tackling complex scheduling problems such as the resource-constrained project scheduling problem (RCPSP). This study represents the first application of quantum annealing to solve the RCPSP, analyzing 12 well-known mixed integer linear programming (MILP) formulations and converting the most qubit-efficient one into a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) model. We then solve this model using the D-wave advantage 6.3 quantum annealer, comparing its performance against classical computer solvers. Our results indicate significant potential, particularly for small to medium-sized instances. Further, we introduce time-to-target and Atos Q-score metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of quantum annealing and reverse quantum annealing. Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) is a challenging task due to the complex structures and variations present in handwritten text. In recent years, the application of gated mechanisms, such as Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, has brought significant advancements to HTR systems. This paper presents an overview of HTR using a gated mechanism and highlights its novelty and advantages. The gated mechanism enables the model to capture long-term dependencies, retain relevant context, handle variable length sequences, mitigate error propagation, and adapt to contextual variations. The pipeline involves preprocessing the handwritten text images, extracting features, modeling the sequential dependencies using the gated mechanism, and decoding the output into readable text. The training process utilizes annotated datasets and optimization techniques to minimize transcription discrepancies. HTR using a gated mechanism has found applications in digitizing historical documents, automatic form processing, and real-time transcription. The results show improved accuracy and robustness compared to traditional HTR approaches. The advancements in HTR using a gated mechanism open up new possibilities for effectively recognizing and transcribing handwritten text in various domains. This research does a better job than the most recent iteration of the HTR system when compared to five different handwritten datasets (Washington, Saint Gall, RIMES, Bentham and IAM). This paper provides six metaheuristic algorithms, namely Fast Cuckoo Search (FCS), Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA), Dynamic control Cuckoo search (DCCS), Gradient-Based Optimizer (GBO), Northern Goshawk Optimization (NGO), Opposition Flow Direction Algorithm (OFDA) to efficiently solve the optimal power flow (OPF) issue. Under standard and conservative operating settings, the OPF problem is modeled utilizing a range of objectives, constraints, and formulations. Five case studies have been conducted using IEEE 30-bus and IEEE 118-bus standard test systems to evaluate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithms. A performance evaluation procedure is suggested to compare the optimization techniques' strength and resilience. A fresh comparison methodology is created to compare the proposed methodologies with other well-known methodologies. This paper presents a comprehensive study on the implementation and analysis of PID controllers in an automated voltage regulator (AVR) system. A novel tuning technique, Virtual Time response-based iterative gain evaluation and re-design (V-Tiger), is introduced to iteratively adjust PID gains for optimal control performance. The study begins with the development of a mathematical model for the AVR system and initialization of PID gains using the Pessen Integral Rule. Virtual time-response analysis is then conducted to evaluate system performance, followed by iterative gain adjustments using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) within the V-Tiger framework. MATLAB simulations are employed to implement various controllers, including the V-Tiger PID controller, and their performance is compared in terms of transient response, stability, and control signal generation. Robustness analysis is conducted to assess the system's stability under uncertainties, and worst-case gain analysis is performed to quantify robustness. The transient response of the AVR with the proposed PID controller is compared with other heuristic controllers such as the Flower Pollination Algorithm, Teaching–Learning-based Optimization, Pessen Integral Rule, and Zeigler-Nichols methods. By measuring the peak closed-loop gain of the AVR with the controller and adding uncertainty to the AVR's field exciter and amplifier, the robustness of proposed controller is determined. Plotting the performance degradation curves yields robust stability margins and the accompanying maximum uncertainty that the AVR can withstand without compromising its stability or performance. Based on the degradation curves, robust stability margin of the V-Tiger PID controller is estimated at 3.5. The worst-case peak gains are also estimated using the performance degradation curves. Biophysical models contain a large number of parameters, while the spiking characteristics of neurons are related to a few key parameters. For thalamic neurons, relay reliability is an important characteristic that affects Parkinson's state. This paper proposes a method to fit key parameters of the model based on the spiking characteristics of neurons, and improves the traditional particle swarm optimization algorithm. That is, a nonlinear concave function and a Logistic chaotic mapping are combined to adjust the inertia weight of particles to avoid the particle falling into a local optimum in the search process or appearing premature convergence. In this paper, three parameters that play an important role in Parkinson's state of the thalamic cell model are selected and fitted by the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm. Using the fitted parameters to reconstruct the neuron model can predict the spiking trajectories well, which verifies the effectiveness of the fitting method. By comparing the fitting results with other particle swarm optimization algorithms, it is shown that the proposed particle swarm optimization algorithm can better avoid local optima and converge to the optimal values quickly. This paper focuses on exploring the application possibilities and optimization problems of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) in spatial computing to improve design efficiency and creativity and achieve a more intelligent design process. A method for icon generation is proposed, and a basic architecture for icon generation is constructed. A system with generation and optimization capabilities is constructed to meet various requirements in spatial design by introducing the concept of interactive design and the characteristics of requirement conditions. Next, the generated icons can effectively maintain diversity and innovation while meeting the conditional features by integrating multi-feature recognition modules into the discriminator and optimizing the structure of conditional features. The experiment uses publicly available icon datasets, including LLD-Icon and Icons-50. The icon shape generated by the model proposed here is more prominent, and the color of colored icons can be more finely controlled. The Inception Score (IS) values under different models are compared, and it is found that the IS value of the proposed model is 7.05, which is higher than that of other GAN models. The multi-feature icon generation model based on Auxiliary Classifier GANs performs well in presenting multiple feature representations of icons. After introducing multi-feature recognition modules into the network model, the peak error of the recognition network is only 2.000 in the initial stage, while the initial error of the ordinary GAN without multi-feature recognition modules is as high as 5.000. It indicates that the improved model effectively helps the discriminative network recognize the core information of icon images more quickly. In this paper, production system (PS) of shale oil is optimized according to production data and indoor experiments, including core and fluid tests. Results showed that: ① Pressure drop rate at wellhead is a reasonable reference for the determination of post-fracture shut-in duration (PFSID). When pressure at a wellhead of horizontal well is relatively stable and the pressure drop less than 0.1 MPa per day for three consecutive days, PFSID ends; ② Flowback intensity of fracturing fluid affects the effectiveness of proppant underground, thus flowback intensity can be determined by the critical flow rate and safety factor of each proppant; ③ Flowback intensity should be varied during different development stages, which could be divided into four according to production gas and oil ratio(GOR) of a shale oil horizontal well: low, medium–high, high and high-low production GOR. During the stage of low production GOR, ratio of flow pressure and saturation pressure should be maintained greater than 1.0, and the initial daily liquid productivity for a hundred-meter oil-bearing lateral length in a horizontal well is 2.4 ~ 2.9 m3/d; and during the medium–high production GOR, high production GOR and high-low production GOR stages, the responding initial daily liquid productivity should be maintained between 0.8 ~ 1.0 or less than 0.8 respectively. One of the most dangerous snake species is the "Egyptian cobra" which can kill a man in only 15 min. This paper uses deep learning techniques to identify the Egyptian cobra bite in an accurate manner based on an image of the marks of the bites. We build a dataset consisting of 500 images of cobra bites marks and 600 images of marks of other species of snakes that exist in Egypt. We utilize techniques such as multi-task learning, transfer learning and data augmentation to boost the generalization and accuracy of our model. We have achieved 90.9% of accuracy. We must keep the availability and accuracy of our model as much as possible. So, we utilize cloud and edge computing techniques to enhance the availability of our model. We have achieved 90.9% of accuracy, which is considered as an efficient result, not 100%, so it is normal for the system to perform sometimes wrong classifications. So, we suggest to re-train our model with the wrong predictions, whereas the edge computing units, where the classifier task is positioned, resend the wrong predictions to the cloud model, where the training process occurs, to retrain the model. This enhances the accuracy to the best level after a small period and increases the dataset size. For any machine learning model, finding the optimal hyperparameter setting has a direct and significant impact on the model's performance. In this paper, we discuss different types of hyperparameter optimization techniques. We compare the performance of some of the hyperparameter optimization techniques on image classification datasets with the help of AutoML models. In particular, the paper studies Bayesian optimization in depth and proposes the use of genetic algorithm, differential evolution and covariance matrix adaptation—evolutionary strategy for acquisition function optimization. Moreover, we compare these variants of Bayesian optimization with conventional Bayesian optimization and observe that the use of covariance matrix adaptation—evolutionary strategy and differential evolution improves the performance of standard Bayesian optimization. Satellite clock bias is the key factor affecting the accuracy of the single point positioning of a global navigation satellite system. The traditional model back propagation (BP) neural network is prone to local optimum problems. This paper presents a prediction model and algorithm for the clock bias of the BP neural network based on the optimization of the mind evolutionary algorithm (MEA), which is used to optimize the initial weights and thresholds of the BP neural network. The accuracy of the comparison between clock bias data is verified with and without one-time difference processing. Compared with grey model (GM (1,1)) and BP neural network, this paper discusses the advantages and general applicability of this method from different constellation satellites, different atomic clock type satellites, and the amount of modeling data. The accuracy of the grey model (GM(1,1)), BP, and MEA-BP models for satellite clock bias prediction is analyzed and the root mean square error, range difference error, and the mean of the clock bias data compared. The results demonstrate that the prediction accuracy of the three satellites significantly increased after one-time difference processing and that they have good stability. The prediction accuracy of four sessions of 2 h, 3 h, 6 h, and 12 h obtained using the MEA-BP model was better than 0.74, 0.80, 1.12, and 0.87 ns, respectively. The MEA-BP model has a specific degree of improvement in the prediction accuracy of the different sessions. Additionally, the prediction accuracy of different models has a specific relationship with the length of the original modeling sequence, of which BP model is the most affected, and MEABP is relatively less affected by the length of the modeling sequence, indicating that the MEA-BP model has strong anti-interference ability. In some wireless charging applications where the coil spacing varies in real time, such as UAV, electric boat and tram, etc., the traditional direct impedance matching method is difficult to identify the mutual inductance timely and accurately, thus affecting the efficiency optimization effect of the system. In this paper, an indirect impedance matching method without parameter identification is proposed, this method is based on the characteristic that the optimal voltage gain of the resonator is only related to its inherent parameters, and impedance matching can be achieved by controlling the voltage gain in real time. To further improve the efficiency of the system, a single-sided detuning design method is used to achieve soft switching of the inverter. Based on the optimal voltage gain expression derived by using both the indirect impedance matching method and the single-sided detuning design method, a compound control strategy for a series-series-compensated topology with dual-side power control is proposed to improve efficiency and stabilize the output voltage. A hardware prototype is built and a peak DC-to-DC efficiency with the optimal output resistance RL at about 28.9 Ω is 91.58%. Effective appointment scheduling (EAS) is essential for the quality and patient satisfaction in hospital management. Healthcare schedulers typically refer patients to a suitable period of service before the admission call closes. The appointment date can no longer be adjusted. This research presents the whale optimization algorithm (WOA) based on the Pareto archive and NSGA-II algorithm to solve the appointment scheduling model by considering the simulation approach. Based on these two algorithms, this paper has addressed the multi-criteria method in appointment scheduling. This paper computes WOA and NSGA with various hypotheses to meet the analysis and different factors related to patients in the hospital. In the last part of the model, this paper has analyzed NSGA and WOA with three cases. Fairness policy first come first serve (FCFS) considers the most priority factor to obtain from figure to strategies optimized solution for best satisfaction results. In the proposed NSGA, the FCFS approach and the WOA approach are contrasted. In this paper, we present an entirely simulation-based method to predict the performance of a complete rectenna system that includes all its components: the receiving antenna, the matching circuits between the antenna and the rectification circuit, and the load circuit. Whereas previous efforts to predict the performance of a rectenna system subdivided the system into the antenna part (radiation to AC power conversion) and the circuit part (AC power to DC power conversion), and made assumptions about the performance of the non-linear part of the rectenna based on a specified power level and frequency, in this method, the radiation part of the system is incorporated into the simulation by using Thevenin theorem. The method proposed in this work enables the rectenna designer to predict the performance of the complete rectenna system, at the design stage, for variation in the incident field's power density, angle of incidence, and operating frequency. Such performance prediction was not available before. Furthermore, the proposed method enables the rectenna designers to optimize the entire system over a portion of or the entire range of the operating frequency. This paper presents the data description of the African buffalo optimization algorithm (ABO). ABO is a recently-designed optimization algorithm that is inspired by the migrant behaviour of African buffalos in the vast African landscape. Organizing their large herds that could be over a thousand buffalos using just two principal sounds, the /maaa/ and the /waaa/ calls present a good foundation for the development of an optimization algorithm. Since elaborate descriptions of the manual workings of optimization algorithms are rare in literature, this paper aims at solving this problem, hence it is our main contribution. It is our belief that elaborate manual description of the workings of optimization algorithms make it user-friendly and encourage reproducibility of the experimental procedures performed using this algorithm. Again, our ability to describe the algorithm's basic flow, stochastic and data generation processes in a language so simple that any non-expert can appreciate and use as well as the practical implementation of the popular benchmark Rosenbrock and Shekel Foxhole functions with the novel algorithm will assist the research community in benefiting maximally from the contributions of this novel algorithm. In order to enhance the speed control performance of the brushless DC motor (BLDCM), a novel proportion integration differentiation (PID) is proposed in this paper by using dual fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) with harmony search algorithm (HSA) optimization, which is called DFPID-HSA. Firstly, the FLS1 in DFPID-HSA locks the three coefficients of the PID controller in an extensive range on the basis of the system error and error change rate. Then, the FLS2 is optimized by HSA (HSA-F2) to obtain the precise correction of the three coefficients. To get the optimal global harmony better, the improved dynamic adjustment mode is used for the pitch adjustment rate (PAR) and distance bandwidth (BW) in HSA, and the triple selection method is adopted in the composition harmony section to realize the global search. Finally, DFPID-HSA provides the optimal supply control signal to BLDCM so that it can control the speed effectively. Moreover, the stability of the system is analyzed by the pole, Lyapunov, and Nyquist determination methods. And the sensitivity analysis of DFPID-HSA is carried out under the condition of different motor's mechanical parameters to check its robustness. Traditional calibration technology has been widely used in measurement and monitoring; however, there are limitations of poor calibration accuracy, which can not meet the accuracy requirements in some scenarios. About this problem, we proposed a grey wolf optimization algorithm based on levy flight and mutation mechanism to solve camera internal parameters in this paper. The algorithm is based on the actual nonlinear model, which takes the minimum average value of reprojection error as the objective function. The grey wolf position is randomly generated within a given range. Then, the grey wolf optimization algorithm based on levy flight and mutation mechanism is used to iteratively calculate the optimal position, which is the internal parameters of cameras. The two groups of experimental data were performed to verify the algorithm. Though effective in theoretical simulation, the established traffic control models and optimization algorithms will result in model mismatch or even control strategy failure in actual application. However, they are commonly adopted in traffic signal control research, resulting in the unavailability of many exceptional control algorithms in practice. Simulation should function as a bridge between theoretical research and actual application, allowing the gap between the two to be communicated and made up for. However, an effective connection between the two has yet to be established to enable simulation methods in existing traffic control research. To this end, we designed and developed a simulation platform for "Online Application—HILS (Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation)—Practice" integration over traffic signal control. In this paper, the architecture and characteristics of the integrated simulation platform were described. Besides, the function of each module of the platform was detailed, followed by listing simulation examples for six complex scenarios, with the active control scenario being selected for simulation comparison analysis. The findings demonstrated extensive road network simulation with the integrated simulation platform, multidimensional control variables, control strategies with support, as well as stable and reliable operation. In this paper, a battery charging model is developed for solar PV system applications. As a means of photovoltaic power controlling system, buck-boost converter with a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) mechanism is developed in this paper for maximum efficiency. This paper proposed a novel combined technique of hybrid Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) and Salp Swarm Optimization (SSO) models to perform Maximum Power Point Tracking mechanisms and obtain a higher efficiency for battery charging. In order to retrieve the maximum power from the PV array, the Maximum Power Point Tracking mechanism is observed which reaches the maximum efficiency and the maximum power is fed through the buck-boost converter into the load. The buck-boost converter steps up the voltage to essential magnitude. The energy drawn from the PV array is used for the battery charging by means of an isolated buck converter since the buck-boost converter is not directly connected to the battery. The Fractional Order Proportional Integral Derivative (FOPID) controller handles the isolated buck converter and battery to enhance the efficiency obtained through the Maximum Power Point Tracking mechanism. The simulation results show higher steady efficiency by using the hybrid PSOSSO algorithm in all stages. The battery is charged without losing the efficiency obtained from the hybrid PSOSSO algorithm-based Maximum Power Point Tracking mechanism. The higher efficiency was obtained as 99.99% at Standard Test Conditions (STC) and 99.52% at PV partial shading conditions (PSCs) by using the new hybrid algorithm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we present a novel low-frequency sensing solution based on the manipulation of the near-field distribution by employing a passive holographic magnetic metasurface, excited by an active RF coil placed in its reactive region. In particular, the sensing capability is based on the interaction between the magnetic field distribution produced by the radiating system and the magneto-dielectric inhomogeneities eventually present within the material under test. We first start from conceiving the geometrical set-up of the metasurface and its driving RF coil, adopting a low operative frequency (specifically 3 MHz) to consider a quasi-static regime and able to increase the penetration depth within the sample. Afterwards, since the sensing spatial resolution and performance can be modulated by controlling the metasurface properties, the required holographic magnetic field mask, describing the ideal distribution at a specific plane, is designed. Then, the amplitude and phase of currents, flowing in each metasurface unit-cell and required to synthetize the field mask, are determined through an optimization technique. Next, the capacitive loads necessary to accomplish the planned behavior are retrieved, by exploiting the metasurface impedance matrix. Finally, experimental measurements conducted on fabricated prototypes validated the numerical results, confirming the efficacy of the proposed approach to detect inhomogeneities in a medium with a magnetic inclusion in a non-destructive manner. The findings show that holographic magnetic metasurfaces operating in the quasi-static regime can be successfully employed for non-destructive sensing, both in industrial and biomedical fields, despite the extremely low frequencies. The spectral efficiency (SE) can approximately double when using full-duplex (FD) multiuser MIMO communications. However, there are difficulties because of multiuser interferences, self-interference (SI), and co-channel interference (CCI). To improve the SE of the downlink (DL), this paper proposes CCI-aware enhancement to SLNR (signal-to-leakage-and-noise-ratio) signal-to-leakage-and-noise-ratio (SLNR). It considers a suppressing filter at the receiver to cancel the interferences again designing a beamformer based on CCI-plus-noise covariance matrices for every user at the transmitting side. Additionally, we propose an improvement in the SLNR method by using SI-plus-noise covariance matrices to design uplink (UL) beamformers. Unlike zero-forcing and block-diagonalization, the SLNR approach serves numerous antennas at users and BS (base station). The total SE of the communication yielded using the optimized precoder, i.e., obtained from the SLNR-based precoding. To achieve maximum energy efficiency (EE), we use a power consumption model. Simulation results confirm that full-duplex performs well compared to half-duplex (HD) when the number of antennas at every user in uplink as well downlink channels grow, for all Rician factors, for slight powers of the CCI and SI, and a limited number of antennas at the BS. Manufacturing tolerances and uncertainties concerning material parameters, e.g., operating conditions or substrate permittivity are detrimental to characteristics of microwave components. The knowledge of relations between acceptable parameter deviations (not leading to violation of design specifications) and the nominal performance (not considering uncertainties), and is therefore indispensable. This paper proposes a multi-objective optimization technique of microwave components with tolerance analysis. The goal is to identify a set of trade-off designs: nominal performance versus robustness (quantified by the maximum input tolerance values that allow for achieving 100-percent fabrication yield). Our approach exploits knowledge-driven regression predictors rendered using characteristic points (features) of the component's response for a rapid evaluation of statistical performance figures, along with trust-region algorithm to enable low execution cost as well as convergence. The proposed methodology is verified with the use of three microstrip circuits, a broadband filter, and two branch-line couplers (a single- and a dual-band one). It is demonstrated that a Pareto set w.r.t. nominal performance and robustness objectives can be produced using only 40 to 60 EM simulations of the respective structure (per design). In biomedical data mining, the gene dimension is often much larger than the sample size. To solve this problem, we need to use a feature selection algorithm to select feature gene subsets with a strong correlation with phenotype to ensure the accuracy of subsequent analysis. This paper presents a new three-stage hybrid feature gene selection method, that combines a variance filter, extremely randomized tree, and whale optimization algorithm. First, a variance filter is used to reduce the dimension of the feature gene space, and an extremely randomized tree is used to further reduce the feature gene set. Finally, the whale optimization algorithm is used to select the optimal feature gene subset. We evaluate the proposed method with three different classifiers in seven published gene expression profile datasets and compare it with other advanced feature selection algorithms. This paper describes a method to control the nodal displacement of prestressable truss structures within the desired domains. At the same time, the stress in all members is unleashed to take any value between the allowable tensile stress and critical buckling stress. The shape and stresses are controlled by actuating the most active members. The technique considers the members' initial crookedness, residual stresses, and slenderness ratio (S). Furthermore, the method is premeditated so that the members with an S between 200 and 300 can carry only tension before and after adjustment (i.e., the maximum compressive stress for the members with an S between 200 and 300 is zero). In this paper, the feasibility of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) employing a novel Fibonacy Sequence (FS)-based Optimization Algorithms (OAs) and up-to-date computing techniques is investigated for a large-scale railway bridge. During recent decades, numerous metaheuristic intelligent OAs have been proposed and immediately gained a lot of momentum. However, the major concern is how to employ OAs to deal with real-world problems, especially the SHM of large-scale structures. In addition to the requirement of high accuracy, a high computational cost is putting up a major barrier to the real application of OAs. Therefore, this article aims at addressing these two aforementioned issues. First, we propose employing the optimal ability of the golden ratio formulated by the well-known FS to remedy the shortcomings and improve the accuracy of OAs, specifically, a recently proposed new algorithm, namely Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA). On the other hand, to deal with the high computational cost problems of OAs, we propose employing an up-to-date computing technique, termed superscalar processor to conduct a series of iterations in parallel. Moreover, in this work, the vectorization technique is also applied to reduce the size of the data. Pet dogs are our good friends. Realizing the dog's emotions through the dog's facial expressions is beneficial to the harmonious coexistence between human beings and pet dogs. This paper describes a study on dog facial expression recognition using convolutional neural network (CNN), which is a representative algorithm model of deep learning. Parameter settings have a profound impact on the performance of a CNN model, improper parameter setting will make the model exposes several shortcomings, such as slow learning speed, easy to fall into local optimal solution, etc. In response to these shortcomings and improve the accuracy of recognition, a novel CNN model based on the improved whale optimization algorithm (IWOA) called IWOA–CNN is applied to complete this recognition task. Unlike human face recognition, a dedicated face detector in Dlib toolkit is utilized to recognize the facial region, and the captured facial images are augmented to build an expression dataset. The random dropout layer and L2 regularization are introduced into the network to reduce the number of transmission parameters of network and avoid over fitting. The IWOA optimizes the keep probability of the dropout layer, the parameter λ of L2 regularization and the dynamic learning rate of gradient descent optimizer. Carry out a comparative experiment of IWOA–CNN, Support Vector Machine, LeNet-5 and other classifiers for facial expression recognition, its results demonstrate that the IWOA–CNN has better recognition effect in facial expression recognition and also explain the efficiency of the swarm intelligence algorithm in dealing with model parameter optimization. The importance of numerical optimization techniques has been continually growing in the design of microwave components over the recent years. Although reasonable initial designs can be obtained using circuit theory tools, precise parameter tuning is still necessary to account for effects such as electromagnetic (EM) cross coupling or radiation losses. EM-driven design closure is most often realized using gradient-based procedures, which are generally reliable as long as the initial design is sufficiently close to the optimum one. Otherwise, the search process may end up in a local optimum that is of insufficient quality. Furthermore, simulation-based optimization incurs considerable computational expenses, which are often impractically high. This paper proposes a novel parameter tuning procedure, combining a recently reported design specification management scheme, and variable-resolution EM models. The former allows for iteration-based automated modification of the design goals to make them accessible in every step of the search process, thereby improving its immunity to poor starting points. The knowledge-based procedure for the adjustment of the simulation model fidelity is based on the convergence status of the algorithm and discrepancy between the current and the original performance specifications. Due to using lower-resolution EM simulations in early phase of the optimization run, considerable CPU savings can be achieved, which are up to 60 percent over the gradient-based search employing design specifications management and numerical derivatives. In this paper, we propose a new priority multi-objective optimization strategy of system output variables in cutting tobacco process. The proposed strategy focuses on the cutting tobacco moisture-controlled output variables optimization in feasible regions with two levels according to the priority. This study aims to provide a novel technical support for the chemical industry contained drying process. In order to alleviate the lack of degree of freedom of the system, strict set-point control is given, meanwhile, other output variables adopt zone control. Firstly, the system control output variables are optimized in ascending order of priority. Secondly, the specific lower-level target constraints are first relaxed. Finally, the relaxation of other high-priority target constraints is stopped when the optimization is feasible. Thus, the system control output variables move along the optimal target trajectory. From the perspective of practical application of engineering, under the condition of disturbance existing in the cutting tobacco drying process, the simulation shows that the proposed approach has good robustness when there is disturbance, and the previous method cannot meet the control requirement. The grasshopper optimization algorithm (GOA) is a meta-heuristic algorithm proposed in 2017 mimics the biological behavior of grasshopper swarms seeking food sources in nature for solving optimization problems. Nonetheless, some shortcomings exist in the origin GOA, and GOA global search ability is more or less insufficient and precision also needs to be further improved. Although there are many different GOA variants in the literature, the problem of inefficient and rough precision has still emerged in GOA variants. Aiming at these deficiencies, this paper develops an improved version of GOA with Levy Flight mechanism called LFGOA to alleviate the shortcomings of the origin GOA. The LFGOA algorithm achieved a more suitable balance between exploitation and exploration during searching for the most promising region. The performance of LFGOA is tested using 23 mathematical benchmark functions in comparison with the eight well-known meta-heuristic algorithms and seven real-world engineering problems. The statistical analysis and experimental results show the efficiency of LFGOA. In this paper, a new stochastic optimization algorithm is introduced, called Driving Training-Based Optimization (DTBO), which mimics the human activity of driving training. The fundamental inspiration behind the DTBO design is the learning process to drive in the driving school and the training of the driving instructor. DTBO is mathematically modeled in three phases: (1) training by the driving instructor, (2) patterning of students from instructor skills, and (3) practice. The performance of DTBO in optimization is evaluated on a set of 53 standard objective functions of unimodal, high-dimensional multimodal, fixed-dimensional multimodal, and IEEE CEC2017 test functions types. The optimization results show that DTBO has been able to provide appropriate solutions to optimization problems by maintaining a proper balance between exploration and exploitation. The performance quality of DTBO is compared with the results of 11 well-known algorithms. The complexity of engineering optimization problems is increasing. Classical gradient-based optimization algorithms are a mathematical means of solving complex problems whose ability to do so is limited. Metaheuristics have become more popular than exact methods for solving optimization problems because of their simplicity and the robustness of the results that they yield. Recently, population-based bio-inspired algorithms have been demonstrated to perform favorably in solving a wide range of optimization problems. The jellyfish search optimizer (JSO) is one such bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithm, which is based on the food-finding behavior of jellyfish in the ocean. According to the literature, JSO outperforms many well-known meta-heuristics in a wide range of benchmark functions and real-world applications. JSO can also be used in conjunction with other artificial intelligence-related techniques. The success of JSO in solving diverse optimization problems motivates the present comprehensive discussion of the latest findings related to JSO. This paper reviews various issues associated with JSO, such as its inspiration, variants, and applications, and will provide the latest developments and research findings concerning JSO. The systematic review contributes to the development of modified versions and the hybridization of JSO to improve upon the original JSO and present variants, and will help researchers to develop superior metaheuristic optimization algorithms with recommendations of add-on intelligent agents. The traditional Grey Wolf Optimization algorithm (GWO) has received widespread attention due to features of strong convergence performance, few parameters, and easy implementation. However, in actual optimization projects, there are problems of slow convergence speed and easy to fall into local optimal solution. The paper proposed a Grey Wolf Optimization algorithm based on Cauchy-Gaussian mutation and improved search strategy (CG-GWO) in response to the above problems. The Cauchy-Gaussian mutation operator is introduced to increase the population diversity of the leader wolves and improve the global search ability of the algorithm. This work retains outstanding grey wolf individuals through the greedy selection mechanism to ensure the convergence speed of the algorithm. An improved search strategy was proposed to expand the optimization space of the algorithm and improve the convergence accuracy. Experiments are performed with 16 benchmark functions covering unimodal functions, multimodal functions, and fixed-dimension multimodal functions to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm. Experimental results show that compared with four classic optimization algorithms, particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), sparrow optimization algorithm (SSA), and farmland fertility algorithm (FFA), the CG-GWO algorithm shows better convergence accuracy, convergence speed, and global search ability. The biologically inspired metaheuristic algorithm obtains the optimal solution by simulating the living habits or behavior characteristics of creatures in nature. It has been widely used in many fields. A new bio-inspired algorithm, Aphids Optimization Algorithm (AOA), is proposed in this paper. This algorithm simulates the foraging process of aphids with wings, including the generation of winged aphids, flight mood, and attack mood. Concurrently, the corresponding optimization models are presented according to the above phases. At the phase of the flight mood, according to the comprehensive influence of energy and the airflow, the individuals adaptively choose the flight mode to migrate; at the phase of attack mood, individuals use their sense of smell and vision to locate food sources for movement. In this paper, a new optimization algorithm called hybrid leader-based optimization (HLBO) is introduced that is applicable in optimization challenges. The main idea of HLBO is to guide the algorithm population under the guidance of a hybrid leader. The stages of HLBO are modeled mathematically in two phases of exploration and exploitation. The efficiency of HLBO in optimization is tested by finding solutions to twenty-three standard benchmark functions of different types of unimodal and multimodal. The optimization results of unimodal functions indicate the high exploitation ability of HLBO in local search for better convergence to global optimal, while the optimization results of multimodal functions show the high exploration ability of HLBO in global search to accurately scan different areas of search space. In addition, the performance of HLBO on solving IEEE CEC 2017 benchmark functions including thirty objective functions is evaluated. The optimization results show the efficiency of HLBO in handling complex objective functions. The quality of the results obtained from HLBO is compared with the results of ten well-known algorithms. The simulation results show the superiority of HLBO in convergence to the global solution as well as the passage of optimally localized areas of the search space compared to ten competing algorithms. Lung CAD system can provide auxiliary third-party opinions for doctors, improve the accuracy of lung nodule recognition. The selection and fusion of nodule features and the advancement of recognition algorithms are crucial improving lung CAD systems. Based on the HDL model, this paper mainly focuses on the three key algorithms of feature extraction, feature fusion and nodule recognition of lung CAD system. First, CBAM is embedded into VGG16 and VGG19, and feature extraction models AE-VGG16 and AE-VGG19 are constructed, so that the network can pay more attention to the key feature information in nodule description. Then, feature dimensionality reduction based on PCA and feature fusion based on CCA are sequentially performed on the extracted depth features to obtain low-dimensional fusion features. Finally, the fusion features are input into the proposed MKL-SVM-IPSO model based on the improved Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm to speed up the training speed, get the global optimal parameter group. The public dataset LUNA16 was selected for the experiment. The results show that the accuracy of lung nodule recognition of the proposed lung CAD system can reach 99.56%, and the sensitivity and F1-score can reach 99.3% and 0.9965, respectively, which can reduce the possibility of false detection and missed detection of nodules. This paper introduces a new human-based metaheuristic algorithm called Sewing Training-Based Optimization (STBO), which has applications in handling optimization tasks. The fundamental inspiration of STBO is teaching the process of sewing to beginner tailors. The theory of the proposed STBO approach is described and then mathematically modeled in three phases: (i) training, (ii) imitation of the instructor's skills, and (iii) practice. STBO performance is evaluated on fifty-two benchmark functions consisting of unimodal, high-dimensional multimodal, fixed-dimensional multimodal, and the CEC 2017 test suite. The optimization results show that STBO, with its high power of exploration and exploitation, has provided suitable solutions for benchmark functions. The performance of STBO is compared with eleven well-known metaheuristic algorithms. The simulation results show that STBO, with its high ability to balance exploration and exploitation, has provided far more competitive performance in solving benchmark functions than competitor algorithms. This paper presents the design optimization of a linkage-based wheel mechanism with two degrees of freedom, for stable step climbing. The mechanism has seven rotational joints and one prismatic joint. Kinematic and dynamic analyses of the mechanism were performed. The design was optimized in terms of linkage length and architecture to better manipulate the mechanism in its workspace, which was defined here by the targeted step size, as well as to ensure stability while climbing stairs. Optimization by genetic algorithm was performed using MATLAB. The optimized mechanism exhibited enhanced torque transmission from the input torque to the exerted for at the lobe of the wheel. The dwarf mongoose optimization (DMO) algorithm developed in 2022 was applied to solve continuous mechanical engineering design problems with a considerable balance of the exploration and exploitation phases as a metaheuristic approach. Still, the DMO is restricted in its exploitation phase, somewhat hindering the algorithm's optimal performance. In this paper, we proposed a new hybrid method called the BDMSAO, which combines the binary variants of the DMO (or BDMO) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm. In the modelling and implementation of the hybrid BDMSAO algorithm, the BDMO is employed and used as the global search method and the simulated annealing (SA) as the local search component to enhance the limited exploitative mechanism of the BDMO. The new hybrid algorithm was evaluated using eighteen (18) UCI machine learning datasets of low and medium dimensions. The BDMSAO was also tested using three high-dimensional medical datasets to assess its robustness. The results showed the efficacy of the BDMSAO in solving challenging feature selection problems on varying datasets dimensions and its outperformance over ten other methods in the study. Specifically, the BDMSAO achieved an overall result of 61.11% in producing the highest classification accuracy possible and getting 100% accuracy on 9 of 18 datasets. It also yielded the maximum accuracy obtainable on the three high-dimensional datasets utilized while achieving competitive performance regarding the number of features selected. This paper introduces a novel variant of the quantum particle swarm optimization algorithm based on the quantum concept of particle-like solitons as the most common solutions of the quantum nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Soliton adaptation in external potentials is one of their most remarkable features which allows them to be stabilized even without a trapping potential, while the potential must be bounded for quantum particles to be localized. So we consider the motion scenario of the present algorithm based on the corresponding probability density function of quantum solitons. To evaluate the efficiency, we examine the proposed algorithm over a set of known benchmark functions, including a selection of test functions with different modalities and dimensions. Moreover, to achieve a more comprehensive conclusion about the performance, we compare it with the results obtained by particle swarm optimization (PSO), standard quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization QPSO, improved sine cosine Algorithm (ISCA), and JAYA optimization algorithm. This paper proposes a new intelligent algorithm named improved transient search optimization algorithm (ITSOA) integrated with multiobjective optimization for determining the optimal configuration of an unbalanced distribution network. The conventional transient search optimization algorithm (TSOA) is improved with opposition learning and nonlinearly decreasing strategies for enhancing the convergence to find the global solution and obtain a desirable balance between local and global search. The multiobjective function includes different objectives such as power loss reduction, enhancement of voltage sag and unbalance, and network energy not supplied minimization. The decision variables of the reconfiguration problem including opened switches or identification of optimal network configuration are determined using ITSOA and satisfying operational and radiality constraints. The proposed methodology is implemented on unbalanced 13-bus and 118-bus networks. The results showed that the proposed ITSOA is capable to find the optimal network configuration for enhancing the different objectives in loading conditions. The results cleared the proposed methodology's good effectiveness, especially in power quality and reliability enhancement, without compromising the different objectives. This paper proposes a novel hybrid optimization algorithm named GPOFWA, which integrates political optimizer (PO) with fireworks algorithm (FWA) to solve numerical and engineering optimization problems. The original PO uses subgroup optimal solutions such as party leaders and constituency winners to guide the movement of the search agent. However, the number of such subgroup optimal solutions is limited, which leads to insufficient global exploration capabilities of PO. In addition, the recent past-based position updating strategy (RPPUS) of PO lacks effective verification of the updated candidate solutions, which reduces the convergence speed of the algorithm. The proposed hybrid algorithm uses the spark explosion mechanism in FWA to perform explosion spark and Gauss explosion spark operations on the subgroup optimal solutions (party leader and constituency winner) respectively based on the greedy strategy, which optimizes the subgroup optimal solution and enhances the exploitative ability of the algorithm. Moreover, Gaussian explosion sparks are also used to correct the candidate solutions after RPPUS, which makes up for the shortcomings of the original PO. In addition, a new subgroup optimal solution called the Converged Mobile Center (CMC) based on two-way consideration is designed to guide the movement of search agents and maintain the population diversity. We test the presented hybrid algorithm on 30 well-known benchmark functions, CEC2019 benchmark functions and three engineering optimization problems. This paper presents a new contribution in the field of the optimization of the techniques of control of the wind systems and the improvement of the quality of energy produced in the grid. The Sliding Mode control technique gives quite interesting results, but its major drawback lies in the phenomenon of chattering (oscillations), which reduces the system's precision. We propose in this work a solution to cancel this chattering phenomenon by the implication of the adaptive Backstepping technique to control the powers of the double-fed asynchronous generator (DFIG) connected to the electrical network by two converters (network side and side machine) in the nominal part of the sliding mode model. This hybrid technique will correct errors of precision and stability and the performance of the wind system obtained in terms of efficiency, active and reactive power is significant. First, a review of the wind system was presented. Then, an exhaustive explanation of the Backstepping technique based on the Lyapunov stability and optimization method has been reported. Subsequently, a validation on the Matlab & Simulink environment was carried out to test the performance and robustness of the proposed model. This paper proposes an improved group teaching optimization algorithm (IGTOA) to improve the convergence speed and accuracy of the group teaching optimization algorithm. Motivated by the hunting strategies of cheetahs, this paper proposes a nature-inspired algorithm called the cheetah optimizer (CO). Cheetahs generally utilize three main strategies for hunting prey, i.e., searching, sitting-and-waiting, and attacking. These strategies are adopted in this work. Additionally, the leave the pray and go back home strategy is also incorporated in the hunting process to improve the proposed framework's population diversification, convergence performance, and robustness. We perform intensive testing over 14 shifted-rotated CEC-2005 benchmark functions to evaluate the performance of the proposed CO in comparison to state-of-the-art algorithms. Moreover, to test the power of the proposed CO algorithm over large-scale optimization problems, the CEC2010 and the CEC2013 benchmarks are considered. The proposed algorithm is also tested in solving one of the well-known and complex engineering problems, i.e., the economic load dispatch problem. For all considered problems, the results are shown to outperform those obtained using other conventional and improved algorithms. The simulation results demonstrate that the CO algorithm can successfully solve large-scale and challenging optimization problems and offers a significant advantage over different standards and improved and hybrid existing algorithms. This paper presents a millimeter-wave direction of arrival estimation (DoA) technique powered by dynamic aperture optimization. The frequency-diverse medium in this work is a lens-loaded oversized mmWave cavity that hosts quasi-random wave-chaotic radiation modes. The presence of the lens is shown to confine the radiation within the field of view and improve the gain of each radiation mode; hence, enhancing the accuracy of the DoA estimation. It is also shown, for the first time, that a lens loaded-cavity can be transformed into a lens-loaded dynamic aperture by introducing a mechanically controlled mode-mixing mechanism inside the cavity. This work also proposes a way of optimizing this lens-loaded dynamic aperture by exploiting the mode mixing mechanism governed by a machine learning-assisted evolutionary algorithm. The concept is verified by a series of extensive simulations of the dynamic aperture states obtained via the machine learning-assisted evolutionary optimization technique. The optimal scheduling problem of integrated energy system (IES) has the characteristics of high-dimensional nonlinearity. Using the traditional Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) to solve the problem, it is easy to fall into a local optimum in the process of optimization, resulting in a low-quality scheduling scheme. Aiming at the dispatchability of electric and heat loads, this paper proposes an electric and heat comprehensive demand response model considering the participation of dispatchers. On the basis of incentive demand response, the group aggregation model of electrical load is constructed, and the electric load response model is constructed with the goal of minimizing the deviation between the dispatch signal and the load group aggregation characteristic model. Then, a heat load scheduling model is constructed according to the ambiguity of the human body's perception of temperature. On the basis of traditional GWO, the Fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering algorithm is used to group wolves, which increases the diversity of the population, uses the Harris Hawk Optimizer (HHO) to design the prey to search for the best escape position, and reduces the local The optimal probability, and the use of Particle Swarm Optimizer (PSO) and Bat Optimizer (BO) to design the moving modes of different positions, increase the ability to find the global optimum, so as to obtain an Improved Gray Wolf Optimizer (IGWO), and then efficiently solve the model. IGWO can improve the defect of insufficient population diversity in the later stage of evolution, so that the population diversity can be better maintained during the entire evolution process. As an essential parameter in the belief rule base (BRB), referential values refer to evaluation criteria for describing attributes using quantitative data or linguistic terms, the rationality and preciseness of which are important to the modeling accuracy. At present, the studies on referential values of BRB are mainly related to single-valued data. However, due to the inherent uncertainty, ambiguity, and vagueness of expert knowledge, the single-valued references provided by experts cannot represent qualitative information adequately. In this paper, a novel BRB with interval-valued references (BRB-IR) is proposed, in which qualitative knowledge and quantitative data can be integrated to construct models. First, the interval-valued referential values provided by experts are optimized by a nonlinear optimization algorithm to obtain the optimal referential values. Furthermore, other model parameters are optimized by the projection covariance matrix adaptation evolutionary strategy (P-CMA-ES) algorithm. Finally, a case study for pipeline leak detection is constructed to verify the model's effectiveness, and the results show that the proposed BRB-IR is more effective and characterizes expert knowledge better than the classical BRB using single-valued references. Swarm intelligence algorithm is an important evolutionary computation method that optimizes the objective function by imitating the behaviors of various organisms in nature. A two-stage swarm intelligence algorithm named spider pheromone coordination algorithm (SPC) is proposed in this paper. SPC tries to explore as many feasible solutions as possible on the cobweb at the positioning stage. It simulates the release and reception of different pheromones between spiders at the hunting stage, and then spiders move towards prey under the co-action of winds and pheromones. Different from the existing algorithms, SPC simulates the process that spiders accomplish intra-species communications through different pheromones and considers the impact on spider wind movement. A large number of typical benchmark functions are used in comparative numerical experiments to verify the performances of SPC. Experiments are made to compare SPC with a series of swarm intelligence algorithms, showing that SPC has higher convergence accuracy and stronger global searchability, effectively keeping the diversity of feasible solutions. Since early 2020, non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs)—implemented at varying levels of severity and based on widely-divergent perspectives of risk tolerance—have been the primary means to control SARS-CoV-2 transmission. This paper aims to identify how risk tolerance and vaccination rates impact the rate at which a population can return to pre-pandemic contact behavior. To this end, we developed a novel mathematical model and we used techniques from feedback control to inform data-driven decision-making. We use this model to identify optimal levels of NPIs across geographical regions in order to guarantee that hospitalizations will not exceed given risk tolerance thresholds. Results are shown for the state of Colorado, United States, and they suggest that: coordination in decision-making across regions is essential to maintain the daily number of hospitalizations below the desired limits; increasing risk tolerance can decrease the number of days required to discontinue NPIs, at the cost of an increased number of deaths; and if vaccination uptake is less than 70%, at most levels of risk tolerance, return to pre-pandemic contact behaviors before the early months of 2022 may newly jeopardize the healthcare system. Bio-impedance non-invasive measurement techniques usage is rapidly increasing in the agriculture industry. These measured impedance variations reflect tacit biochemical and biophysical changes of living and non-living tissues. Bio-impedance circuit modeling is an effective solution used in biology and medicine to fit the measured impedance. This paper proposes two new fractional-order bio-impedance plant stem models. These new models are compared with three commonly used bio-impedance fractional-order circuit models in plant modeling (Cole, Double Cole, and Fractional-order Double-shell). The two proposed models represent the characterization of the biological cellular morphology of the plant stem. Experiments are conducted on two samples of three different medical plant species from the family Lamiaceae, and each sample is measured at two inter-electrode spacing distances. Bio-impedance measurements are done using an electrochemical station (SP150) in the range of 100 Hz to 100 kHz. All employed models are compared by fitting the measured data to verify the efficiency of the proposed models in modeling the plant stem tissue. The proposed models give the best results in all inter-electrode spacing distances. Four different metaheuristic optimization algorithms are used in the fitting process to extract all models parameter and find the best optimization algorithm in the bio-impedance problems.
