Although, different plant species were utilized for the fabrication of polymorphic, hexagonal, spherical, and nanoflower ZnO NPs with various diameters, few studies succeeded in synthesizing small diameter ZnO nanorods from plant extract at ambient temperature. This work sought to pioneer the ZnO NPs fabrication from the aqueous extract of a Mediterranean salt marsh plant species Limoniastrum monopetalum (L.) Boiss. and assess the role of temperature in the fabrication process. Various techniques have been used to evaluate the quality and physicochemical characteristics of ZnO NPs. Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–VIS) was used as the primary test for formation confirmation. TEM analysis confirmed the formation of two different shapes of ZnO NPs, nano-rods and near hexagonal NPs at varying reaction temperatures. The nano-rods were about 25.3 and 297.9 nm in diameter and in length, respectively while hexagonal NPs were about 29.3 nm. The UV–VIS absorption spectra of the two forms of ZnO NPs produced were 370 and 365 nm for nano-rods and hexagonal NPs, respectively. FT-IR analysis showed Zn–O stretching at 642 cm−1 and XRD confirmed the crystalline structure of the produced ZnO NPs. Thermogravimetric analysis; TGA was also used to confirm the thermal stability of ZnO NPs. The anti-tumor activities of the two prepared ZnO NPs forms were investigated by the MTT assay, which revealed an effective dose-dependent cytotoxic effect on A-431 cell lines. Both forms displayed considerable antioxidant potential, particularly the rod-shaped ZnO NPs, with an IC50 of 148.43 µg mL−1. The rod-shaped ZnO NPs were superior candidates for destroying skin cancer, with IC50 of 93.88 ± 1 µg mL−1 ZnO NPs. Thus, rod-shaped ZnO NPs are promising, highly biocompatible candidate for biological and biomedical applications. Furthermore, both shapes of phyto-synthesized NPs demonstrated effective antimicrobial activity against various pathogens. The aim of current study was to prepared zinc oxide nanofertilzers by ecofriendly friendly, economically feasible, free of chemical contamination and safe for biological use. The study focused on crude extract of Withania coagulans as reducing agent for the green synthesis of ZnO nano-particles. Biosynthesized ZnO NPs were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy, XRD, FTIR and GC–MS analysis. However, zinc oxide as green Nano fertilizer was used to analyze responses induced by different doses of ZnO NPs [0, 25, 50,100, 200 mg/l and Zn acetate (100 mg/l)] in Triticum aestivum (wheat). The stimulatory and inhibitory effects of foliar application of ZnO NPs were studied on wheat (Triticum aestivum) with aspect of biomass accumulation, morphological attributes, biochemical parameters and anatomical modifications. Wheat plant showed significant (p < 0.01) enhancement of growth parameters upon exposure to ZnO NPs at specific concentrations. In addition, wheat plant showed significant increase in biochemical attributes, chlorophyll content, carotenoids, carbohydrate and protein contents. Antioxidant enzyme (POD, SOD, CAT) and total flavonoid content also confirmed nurturing impact on wheat plant. Increased stem, leaf and root anatomical parameters, all showed ZnO NPs mitigating capacity when applied to wheat. Chlorogenic acid (CA) is an effective ingredient that can strengthen immunity during following the COVID-19 era. The current cost of CA is high owing to its complex purification process and low yield (approximately 2%). In this study, a one-step path orthogonal experiment was designed based on the results from Gauss calculation, which consisted of acidity, coordination, and hydrolysis in molecules. The optimized extraction conditions were 60 ℃, 60 min, 1:20 liquid ratio, and 40% ethanol in a nitrogen atmosphere controlled using a device of our own design, which led to CA yields of up to 6.35% from potato leaves. The purified CA was analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography, thin-layer chromatography, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and molecular fluorescence. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles, mostly because of the evident limitations associated with chemical and physical methods. Green synthesis, commonly referred to as "biogenic synthesis," is seen as an alternative approach to produce AgNPs (silver nanoparticles). The current work focuses on the use of Asterarcys sp. (microalga) for biological reduction of AgNO3 to produce AgNPs. The optimal parameters for the reduction of AgNPs were determined as molarity of 3 mM for AgNO3 and an incubation duration of 24 h at pH 9, using a 20:80 ratio of algal extract to AgNO3. The biosynthesized Ast-AgNPs were characterised using ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), zeta potential, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) with selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns. The nanoparticles exhibited their highest absorption in the UV–visible spectra at 425 nm. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigation indicated the presence of characteristic peaks at certain angles: 38.30° (1 1 1), 44.40° (2 0 0), 64.64° (2 2 0), and 77.59° (3 1 1) according to the JCPDS file No. 04-0783. Based on SEM and TEM, the Ast-AgNPs had an average size of 35 nm and 52 nm, respectively. The zeta potential was determined to be − 20.8 mV, indicating their stability. The highest antibacterial effectiveness is shown against Staphylococcus aureus, with a zone of inhibition of 25.66 ± 1.52 mm at 250 μL/mL conc. of Ast-AgNPs. Likewise, Ast-AgNPs significantly suppressed the growth of Fusarium sp. and Curvularia sp. by 78.22% and 85.05%, respectively, at 150 μL/mL conc. of Ast-AgNPs. In addition, the Ast-AgNPs exhibited significant photocatalytic activity in degrading methylene blue (MB), achieving an 88.59% degradation in 120 min, revealing multiple downstream applications of Ast-AgNPs. This study involved the production of 20 biochar samples derived from secondary medicinal residues of Snow Lotus Oral Liquid, processed within the temperature range of 200–600 °C. Additionally, four medicinal residues, including dissolved organic matter (DOM), from 24 samples obtained using the shaking method, served as the primary source material. The investigation focused on two key factors: the modifier and preparation temperature. These factors were examined to elucidate the spectral characteristics and chemical properties of the pharmaceutical residues, biochar, and DOM. To analyze the alterations in the spectral attributes of biochar and medicinal residues, we employed near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR) in conjunction with Fourier-infrared one-dimensional and two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy. These findings revealed that modifiers enhanced the aromaticity of biochar, and the influence of preparation temperature on biochar was diminished. This observation indicates the stability of the aromatic functional group structure. Comparative analysis indicated that Na2CO3 had a more pronounced structural effect on biochar, which is consistent with its adsorption properties. Furthermore, we utilized the fluorescence indices from UV–visible spectroscopy and excitation-emission-matrix spectra with the PARAFAC model to elucidate the characteristics of the fluorescence components in the DOM released from the samples. The results demonstrated that the DOM released from biochar primarily originated externally. Aromaticity reduction and increased decay will enhance the ability of the biochar to bind pollutants. Those results confirmed the link between the substantial increase in the adsorption performance of the high-temperature modified charcoal in the previous study and the structural changes in the biochar. Efficient separation of electron–hole pairs remains pivotal in optimizing photogenerated carrier functionality across diverse catalytic and optoelectronic systems. This study presents the fabrication of a novel hollow direct Z-scheme photocatalyst, ZnO/TiO2. A thorough analysis encompassing various techniques such as Ultraviolet–Visible Spectroscopy (UV–Vis), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission electron Microscopy (TEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) provided detailed insights into the complex material characteristics of the ZnO/TiO2 heterojunction catalyst. The findings revealed coexisting anatase TiO2 and wurtzite ZnO phases, each retaining distinct attributes within the nanocomposites (NCs) structure. The study showcased the photocatalytic efficacy of ZnO/TiO2-NCs in decomposing Methylene Blue and Acridine Orange under UV irradiation, correlated with their underlying structures. Enhanced degradation of these dyes resulted from the establishment of a direct Z-scheme heterojunction between ZnO and TiO2. Employing Density Functional Theory (DFT) using Quantum ESPRESSO, this research analyzed phase diagrams and band structures, elucidating electronic properties and structural correlations. The study characterized a ZnO/TiO2 composite, revealing a band gap of 3.1–3.3 eV through UV–Visible spectroscopy and confirming its formation without impurity phases via XRD analysis. TEM and EDX showed uniform element dispersion (Zn: 27%, Ti: 29.62%, C: 5.03%, O: 38.35%). Computational analysis using DFT indicated a reduction in stable phases with increasing temperature. Enhanced dye degradation was observed (MB: 88.9%, AO: 84%), alongside significant antibacterial activity. In the future we predict that research will focus on development of scaled up production and photocatalytic activity through surface modification, while unveiling mechanistic insights and environmental applicability for multifunctional use in water treatment and antibacterial applications, leading to further advancement of the field. Ag-La-CaTiO3 was used in place of sacrificial agents to assess the influence of operational factors on hydrogen generation in a photocatalytic water splitting system. After being synthesized, the physicochemical features of this substance were accurately described. Several characterization techniques including UV–Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, XPS, EDX, SEM, TGA, DRS and BET were applied to study the prepared Ag-La-CaTiO3 photocatalyst. Ag-La-CaTiO3 shows a band in the visible wavelength between 400 and 800 nm at < 560 nm compared to the main CaTiO3 band at 350 nm. Ag 4d5s electrons transition to the conduction band (CB), which is responsible for the absorption band at ~ 560 nm (> 2.21 eV). The effects of catalyst concentration, light intensity, and beginning solution pH on the H2 generation rate may all be evaluated simultaneously using experimental design procedures. Up to a maximum threshold, where a drop in the rate of gas evolution occurs, it was confirmed that the increase in catalyst dose positively affects system productivity. The initial solution pH plays a crucial role in H2 production, and pH = 4 and 10 are the optimum pH with a higher yield of H2 production. The highest total H2 production rate, 6246.09 μmol, was obtained using a catalyst concentration of 700 mg and solution pH equal to 10 under 1200 W Vis lamp for 3 h. For prediction and optimization, a D-Optimal design was applied and the optimal results were pH 4, the catalyst dose of 645.578 mg and 1200 W with H2 production of 6031.11 μmol. In this study, a ZnO/MnO nanocomposite was myco-fabricated using the isolated endophytic Clonostachys rosea strain EG99 as the nano-factory. The extract of strain EG99, a reducing/capping agent, was successfully titrated with equal quantities of Zn(NO3)2·6H2O and Mn(NO3)2·6H2O (precursors) in a single step to fabricate the rod-shaped ZnO/MnO nanocomposite of size 6.22 nm. The ZnO/MnO nanocomposite was myco-fabricated in 20 min, and the results were validated at 350 and 400 nm using UV–Vis spectroscopy. In a 7-L bioreactor, an industrial biotechnological approach was used to scale up the biomass of this strain, EG99, and the yield of the myco-fabricated ZnO/MnO nanocomposite. A controlled fed-batch fermentation system with a specific nitrogen/carbon ratio and an identical feeding schedule was used in this production process. Higher yields were obtained by adopting a controlled fed-batch fermentation approach in a 7-L bioreactor with a regular feeding schedule using a nitrogen/carbon ratio of 1:200. Overall, the fed-batch produced 89.2 g/l of biomass at its maximum, 2.44 times more than the batch's 36.51 g/l output. Furthermore, the fed-batch's maximum ZnO/MnO nanocomposite yield was 79.81 g/l, a noteworthy 14.5-fold increase over the batch's yield of 5.52 g/l. Finally, we designed an innovative approach to manage the growth of the endophytic strain EG99 using a controlled fed-batch fermentation mode, supporting the rapid, cheap and eco-friendly myco-fabrication of ZnO/MnO nanocomposite. At a dose of 210 µg/ml, the tested myco-fabricated ZnO/MnO nanocomposite exhibited the maximum antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (98.31 ± 0.8%), Escherichia coli (96.70 ± 3.29%), and Candida albicans (95.72 ± 0.95%). At the same dose, Staphylococcus aureus biofilm was eradicated in 48 h; however, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans biofilms needed 72 and 96 h, respectively. Our myco-fabricated ZnO/MnO nanocomposite showed strong and highly selective antagonistic effects against a variety of multidrug-resistant human pathogens. This article outlines the synthesis of two derivatives of 4-amino-5-hydrazineyl-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol for the prevention of carbon steel corrosion in 1M HCl solution. These derivatives are (Z)-3-(1-(2-(4-amino-5-mercapto-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)hydrazono)ethyl)-2H-chromen-2-one (TZ1) and 5-(2-(9H-fluoren-9-ylidene)hydrazineyl)-4-amino-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol (TZ2). Weight loss, electrochemical experiments, surface examinations, and theoretical computation are used to evaluate the effectiveness of the two compounds to be used as corrosion inhibitors. Weight loss and electrochemical studies demonstrate that these derivatives reduce the corrosion rate of carbon steel. To examine the morphology and constitution of the carbon steel surface submerged in HCl solution as well as after adding inhibitors, surface examination tests are performed. It has recently been found that the anodizing of FeAl alloys allows the formation of iron-aluminum oxide layers with interesting semiconducting properties. However, the lack of systematic research on different anodizing regimes is hampering their full exploitation in numerous photoelectrochemical-related applications. This study address, for the first time, the systematic effect of the electrolyte composition on the formation of self-ordered oxide films by anodizing on cast Fe3Al alloy. The Fe3Al alloy was anodized in 3 electrolytes with different water-ethylene glycol (EG) ratios (pure water, 25 vol.%-EG, and 50 vol.%-EG solutions) at a constant tartaric-sulfuric acids concentration, different voltages (10–20 V) and treatment times (2–60 min). After anodizing, all anodic oxide layers were annealed at 900 °C to form semiconductive iron-aluminum crystalline phases. Conventional techniques were used to systematically ascertain the morphological (SEM/EDS, XRD, eddy-current measurements) and semiconductive (UV–VIS reflectance spectroscopy) properties of these oxide layers. The results confirmed the formation of homogeneous and self-ordered anodic oxide layers at 10 and 15 V, regardless of the electrolyte composition. Namely, anodic films formed in electrolytes containing EG showed lower pore sizes, growth rates, and film thicknesses than those anodic films formed in the aqueous-based electrolyte. Misuse of antibiotics leads to the worldwide spread of antibiotic resistance, which motivates scientists to create new antibiotics. The recurring UTI due to antibiotics-resistant microorganism's challenges scientists globally. The biogenic nanoparticles have the potential to meet the escalating requirements of novel antimicrobial agents. The green synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) gained more attention due to their reliable applications against resistant microbes. The current study evaluates the biogenic ZnO NPs of Mentha piperata extract against resistant pathogens of urinary tract infections by agar well diffusion assay. The biogenic ZnO NPs revealed comparatively maximum inhibition in comparison to synthetic antibiotics against two bacterial strains (Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and a fungal strain (Candida albicans).The synthesized biogenic ZnO NPs alone revealed maximum activities than the combination of plant extract (PE) and ZnO NPs, and PE alone. The physiochemical features of ZnO NPs characterized through UV–Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM, and EDX. The UV–Vis spectroscopy revealed 281.85 nm wavelengths; the XRD pattern revealed the crystalline structure of ZnO NPs. The FTIR analysis revealed the presence of carboxylic and nitro groups, which could be attributed to plant extract. SEM analysis revealed spherical hollow symmetry due to electrostatic forces. The analysis via EDX confirmed the presence of Zn and oxygen in the sample. The physiochemical features of synthesized ZnO NPs provide pivotal information such as quality and effectiveness. The current study revealed excellent dose-dependent antimicrobial activity against the pathogenic isolates from UTI-resistant patients. The higher concentration of ZnONPs interacts with the cell membrane which triggers oxidative burst. In this paper, tri-phase Fe2O3–MgO–CuO nanocomposites (NCs) and pure CuO, Fe2O3 and MgO nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared using sol–gel technique. The physical properties of the prepared products were examined using SEM, XRD, and UV–visible. The XRD data indicated the formation of pure CuO, Fe2O3 and MgO NPs, as well as nanocomposite formation with Fe2O3 (cubic), MgO (cubic), and CuO (monoclinic). The crystallite size of all the prepared samples was calculated via Scherrer's formula. The energy bandgap of CuO, Fe2O3 and MgO and Fe2O3–MgO–CuO NCs were computed from UV–visible spectroscopy as following 2.13, 2.29, 5.43 and 2.96 eV, respectively. This study aimed to produce stable propolis nanoparticles with a size below 100 nm, suitable for various applications in industries such as pharmaceuticals, medicine, cosmetics, food, and packaging. To achieve this, propolis solid lipid nanoparticles (PSLNs) were synthesized using the hot homogenization method, and the optimized nanoparticles were analyzed using Design Expert software. The properties of the synthesized PSLN were characterized using UV–visible spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, PSA, TEM, and zeta potential analysis. The results indicated that PSLNs with a size range of 57 ± 15 nm remained stable in an aqueous medium at pH 7.4. HPLC analysis showed that the active ingredient of phenols and flavonoids in the extract remained stable after the formation of PSLNs. Antioxidant and antibacterial properties of the extract and nanoparticles were also evaluated. The results demonstrated that the biological properties of the extract were effectively preserved in PSLNs, Additionally, the PSLN synthesized exhibited remarkable anticancer properties against the A549 cell line and with IC50 of 0.01 mg/ml after 72 h-treatment. In conclusion, the optimized PSLNs can be utilized as antioxidant and antibacterial additives and have the potential to be used as a drug or drug carrier for the treatment of lung cancer. Nitroso-compounds are potentially mutagenic and carcinogenic compounds due to their ability to alkylate DNA bases. One of the most common sources of human exposure to nitroso-compounds is their formation in the acidic environment of the stomach by the reaction between electron-rich molecules present in the lumen and sodium nitrite ingested in the diet. To date, the formation of nitroso-compounds by the reaction of nitrite with food components has been investigated in depth, but little attention has been paid to substances secreted in the stomach, such as dopamine or serotonin, whose reaction products with nitrite have proven mutagenic properties. In this article, we present a kinetic study with UV–visible spectroscopy of the nitrosation reactions of both molecules, as well as of L-tyrosine, the amino-acid precursor of dopamine. We determined the kinetic parameters and reaction mechanisms for the reactions, studying the influence of the reactants concentration, pH, temperature, and ionic strength on the reaction rate. In all cases, the favoured reaction product was a stable nitroso-compound. Serotonin, the molecule whose product was the most mutagenic, underwent two consecutive nitrosation reactions. These findings suggest that additional biological research is needed to understand how this reaction alters the function of these neurotransmitters as well as the potentially toxic effects they may have once nitrosated. The Fe3Al alloy was anodized in 3 electrolytes with different water-ethylene glycol (EG) ratios (pure water, 25 vol.%-EG, and 50 vol.%-EG solutions) at a constant tartaric-sulfuric acids concentration, different voltages (10–20 V) and treatment times (2–60 min). After anodizing, all anodic oxide layers were annealed at 900 °C to form semiconductive iron-aluminum crystalline phases. Conventional techniques were used to systematically ascertain the morphological (SEM/EDS, XRD, eddy-current measurements) and semiconductive (UV–VIS reflectance spectroscopy) properties of these oxide layers. The results confirmed the formation of homogeneous and self-ordered anodic oxide layers at 10 and 15 V, regardless of the electrolyte composition. Namely, anodic films formed in electrolytes containing EG showed lower pore sizes, growth rates, and film thicknesses than those anodic films formed in the aqueous-based electrolyte. Misuse of antibiotics leads to the worldwide spread of antibiotic resistance, which motivates scientists to create new antibiotics. The recurring UTI due to antibiotics-resistant microorganism's challenges scientists globally. The biogenic nanoparticles have the potential to meet the escalating requirements of novel antimicrobial agents. The green synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) gained more attention due to their reliable applications against resistant microbes. The current study evaluates the biogenic ZnO NPs of Mentha piperata extract against resistant pathogens of urinary tract infections by agar well diffusion assay. The biogenic ZnO NPs revealed comparatively maximum inhibition in comparison to synthetic antibiotics against two bacterial strains (Proteus mirabilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and a fungal strain (Candida albicans).The synthesized biogenic ZnO NPs alone revealed maximum activities than the combination of plant extract (PE) and ZnO NPs, and PE alone. The physiochemical features of ZnO NPs characterized through UV–Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM, and EDX. The UV–Vis spectroscopy revealed 281.85 nm wavelengths; the XRD pattern revealed the crystalline structure of ZnO NPs. The FTIR analysis revealed the presence of carboxylic and nitro groups, which could be attributed to plant extract. SEM analysis revealed spherical hollow symmetry due to electrostatic forces. The analysis via EDX confirmed the presence of Zn and oxygen in the sample. The physiochemical features of synthesized ZnO NPs provide pivotal information such as quality and effectiveness. The current study revealed excellent dose-dependent antimicrobial activity against the pathogenic isolates from UTI-resistant patients. The higher concentration of ZnONPs interacts with the cell membrane which triggers oxidative burst. In this paper, tri-phase Fe2O3–MgO–CuO nanocomposites (NCs) and pure CuO, Fe2O3 and MgO nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared using sol–gel technique. The physical properties of the prepared products were examined using SEM, XRD, and UV–visible. The XRD data indicated the formation of pure CuO, Fe2O3 and MgO NPs, as well as nanocomposite formation with Fe2O3 (cubic), MgO (cubic), and CuO (monoclinic). The crystallite size of all the prepared samples was calculated via Scherrer's formula. The energy bandgap of CuO, Fe2O3 and MgO and Fe2O3–MgO–CuO NCs were computed from UV–visible spectroscopy as following 2.13, 2.29, 5.43 and 2.96 eV, respectively. Formation of plasmonically active silver, copper and composite silver-copper nanostructures were studied in this paper. Metallic nanostructures were fabricated by thermal disintegration, so called dewetting, of the thin films in an argon atmosphere. The formation process of the nanostructures was in-situ observed by a novel method, based on resistance measurements. The influence of the material and thickness of the initial thin film on temperature of their disintegration was investigated. Electrical measurements were validated by scanning electron microscopy observations, while metallic the behavior of nanostructures was studied by XPS method. The formation of silver-copper nanocomposite structures was confirmed by UV–vis spectroscopy. Plasmon resonance with two characteristic peaks for nanocomposite structures was observed. Over the past few decades, the green synthesis of nanoparticles has gained importance for their therapeutic efficacy and eco-friendly nature. Integrating green chemistry principles into multidisciplinary nanoscience research has paved the way for developing environmentally benign and sustainable methods for synthesizing gold and silver nanoparticles. In the present study, the flowers obtained from Clerodendrum infortunatum (L.), belonging to the family Verbenaceae, have been used for biosynthesizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to evaluate the anthelmintic potential. UV–Vis spectroscopy, XRD, FTIR, SEM and TEM analyses were performed to ascertain the formation of AgNPs. Clerodendrum-derived AgNP (CLE-AgNP) has significantly affected the normal physiological functions of the poultry parasite Raillietina spp., a menace to the livestock industry. Our study manifests that CLE-AgNPs cause considerable distortion of the surface tegument of this cestode parasite leading to changes in the host-parasite interface. The histochemical localization studies of the tegument-associated enzymes viz. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising anticancer treatment because it is patient-friendly and non-invasive. Methyl pyropheophorbide-a (MPPa), one of the chlorin class photosensitizers, is a drug with poor aqueous solubility. The purpose of this study was to synthesize MPPa and develop MPPa-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) with improved solubility and PDT efficacy. The synthesized MPPa was confirmed 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopy and UV–Vis spectroscopy. MPPa was encapsulated in SLN via a hot homogenization with sonication. Particle characterization was performed using particle size and zeta potential measurements. The pharmacological effect of MPPa was evaluated using the 1,3-diphenylisobenzofuran (DPBF) assay and anti-cancer effect against HeLa and A549 cell lines. The particle size and zeta potential ranged from 231.37 to 424.07 nm and − 17.37 to − 24.20 mV, respectively. MPPa showed sustained release from MPPa-loaded SLNs. All formulations improved the photostability of MPPa. The DPBF assay showed that SLNs enhanced the 1O2 generation from MPPa. In the photocytotoxicity analysis, MPPa-loaded SLNs demonstrated cytotoxicity upon photoirradiation but not in the dark. The PDT efficacy of MPPa improved following its entrapment in SLNs. This observation suggests that MPPa-loaded SLNs are suitable for the enhanced permeability and retention effect. Green synthesis of bioactive nanoparticles (NPs) is getting more attractive in various fields of science including the food industry. This study investigates the green synthesizing and characterization of gold NPs (AuNPs) and silver NPs (AgNPs) produced using Mentha spicata L. (M. spicata) essential oil as well as their antibacterial, antioxidant, and in vitro cytotoxic effects. The essential oil was mixed with both Chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) and aqueous silver nitrate (AgNO3) solutions separately and incubated at room temperature for 24 h. The chemical composition of the essential oil was identified by gas chromatography coupled with a mass spectrometer detector (GC–MS). Au and Ag nanoparticles were characterized using UV–Vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). The cytotoxicity of both types of nanoparticles was evaluated using MTT assay on cancerous HEPG-2cell line by exposing them to various concentrations of both NPs for 24 h. The antimicrobial effect was evaluated by the well-diffusion technique. The antioxidant effect was determined by DPPH and ABTS tests. According to the results of GC–MS analysis, 18 components were identified, including carvone (78.76%) and limonene (11.50%). UV–visible spectroscopy showed a strong absorption peak of 563 nm and 485 nm, indicating the formation of Au NPs and Ag NPs, respectively. TEM and DLS demonstrated that AuNPs and AgNPs were predominantly spherical shaped with average sizes of 19.61 nm and 24 nm, respectively. FTIR analysis showed that biologically active compounds such as monoterpenes could assist in the formation and stabilization of both types of NPs. Additionally, XRD provided more accurate results, revealing a nano-metal structure. Silver nanoparticles exhibited better antimicrobial activity against the bacteria than AuNPs. Zones of inhibition ranging 9.0–16.0 mm were recorded for the AgNPs, while zones of 8.0–10.33 mm were observed AuNPs. In the ABTS assay, the AuNPs and AgNPs showed a dose-dependent activity and synthesized nanoparticles exhibited higher antioxidant activity than MSEO in both assays. Mentha spicata essential oil can be successfully used for the green production of Au NPs and Ag NPs. Both green synthesized NPs show antibacterial, antioxidant, and in vitro cytotoxic activity. Green synthesized nanoparticles (GSNPs) display fascinating properties compared to physical and chemical synthesized ones. GSNPs are currently used in numerous applications such as food packaging, surface coating agents, environmental remediation, antimicrobial, and medicine. In the present study, the aqueous leaf extract of Perilla frutescens L. having suitable capping, reducing, and stabilizing compounds was used for green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Pf-AgNPs). The bioreductant capacity of aqueous leaf extract of P. frutescens for Pf-AgNPs was determined by different confirmatory techniques including UV–Visible spectroscopy, XRD, FESEM, EDX, zeta potential, DLS, SERS, and FTIR analysis. The results exhibited that Pf-AgNPs had optimal size (< 61 nm), shape (spherical), and stability (− 18.1 mV). The antioxidant activity of Pf-AgNPs with both DPPH and FRAP assays was significantly higher compared to P. frutescens extract. Furthermore, Pf-AgNPs had high antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus (MIC = 0.78 mg/mL), and Candida albicans (MIC = 8 mg/mL) while the plant extract showed low antimicrobial activity against both bacterial strains and the fungus tested. Pf-AgNPs and P. frutescens extract also exhibited moderate toxicity on MCF-7 cancer cells with IC50 values of 346.2 and 467.4 µg/mL, respectively. The effective removal and displacement of fluids is important in many industrial and environmental applications, such as for operation and cleaning of process equipment, fluid injection in porous media for oil recovery or aquifer remediation, or for achieving subsurface zonal isolation in new or abandoned wells. The accurate measurement of the residual fluid wall film left behind after displacement by a cleaning fluid is a long-standing challenge, particularly so for very thin fluid films where the thickness can be of the order of micrometer. We focus on the characterization of oil films left on the wall of a horizontal pipe after the pipe has been displaced by water, and develop a novel, non-intrusive analytical technique that allows the use of relevant pipe materials. The oil that originally occupies the pipe is stained by a hydrophobic dye Nile red, and an intermediate organic solvent is used to collect the residual oil volume that remains after displacing the pipe with a known volume of water. Finally, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy is used to measure the Nile red concentration in the collected fluid, which is proportional to the residual volume of oil in the pipe. We demonstrate the methodology by conducting experiments where the displacing fluid is injected at two different imposed velocities, and where the injected fluid volume is varied. As expected, we find a gradual thinning of the oil film with increasing injected fluid volume. We compare the measured film thicknesses to a displacement model based on the steady velocity profile in a pipe, and find that experiments consistently produce smaller film thicknesses. This developed technique allows quantification of displacement and cleaning mechanisms involved in immiscible displacements at laminar, transitional and turbulent regimes, for different non-Newtonian fluid pairs, and for different realistic pipe materials and surface roughnesses. In this study, we identified a suitable precursor and good cellular compartmentalization for enhancing bioactive metabolites to produce biosynthetic zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). An effective medium for cultivating endophytic Streptomycesalbus strain E56 was selected using several optimized approaches in order to maximize the yield of biosynthetic ZnO NPs. The highest biosynthetic ZnO NPs yield (4.63 g/L) was obtained when pipetting the mixed cell-free fractions with 100 mM of zinc sulfate as a precursor. The generation of biosynthetic ZnO NPs was quickly verified using a colored solution (white color) and UV–Visible spectroscopy (maximum peak, at 320 nm). On a small scale, the Taguchi method was applied to improve the culture medium for culturing the strain E56. As a result, its cell-dry weight was 3.85 times that of the control condition. And then the biosynthesis of ZnO NPs (7.59 g/L) was increased by 1.6 times. Furthermore, by using the Plackett–Burman design to improve the utilized biogenesis pathway, the biosynthesis of ZnO NPs (18.76 g/L) was increased by 4.3 times. To find the best growth production line, we used batch and fed batch fermentation modes to gradually scale up biomass output. All kinetics of studied cell growth were evaluated during fed-batch fermentation as follows: biomass yield was 271.45 g/L, yield coefficient was 94.25 g/g, and ZnO NPs yield was 345.32 g/L. In vitro, the effects of various dosages of the controllable biosynthetic ZnO NPs as antimicrobial and anticancer agents were also investigated. In the present study, the Sr1−xAl2O4:Eux (x = 0.00, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.07, and 0.09) phosphor were synthesized by urea fuel combustion method at 580 °C temperature with very high brightness and long after glow. The structural studies carried out using XRD technique shows that the sample is single phased in nature and it gets crystallized into monoclinic phase with standard JCPDS 34-0379 card. The oxide formation was examined using FTIR technique. UV–Visible spectroscopy has been used to study the optical band gap of material, it's value in the current case, Sr1−xAl2O4:Eux (x = 0.05) is 3.78 eV. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), confirm the formation of nano particle, with average particle size around 6–25 nm. The elemental composition was confirmed by using Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) technique. The photo-luminescence study revealed that it gives broad emission spectra using excitation wavelength λex = 365 nm. It is observed that the Sr1−xAl2O4:Eux (x = 0.05) phosphor give maximum emission intensity and it can be regulated as green (0.23, 0.49) emission with the colour temperature 3224 K, CRI 78, and colour purity 60.69%. The spectra are intense and lie in the visible range. The green lights can regulate the circadian rhythm through melatonin, and it is also suitable for green LED and other optoelectronic devices. In the present study, the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized from the bulbs of Allium sativum, characterized by UV–visible spectroscopy, FT-IR, SEM, HR-TEM, EDAX analysis and investigated its action on the inhibition of starch digestion. The results proved that the biosynthesized nanoparticles were uniformly dispersed, spherical shaped with the size ranging from 10 to 30 nm. The phytochemical and FT-IR analysis showed the presence of phenols, terpenoids, and amino acids in the synthesized AgNPs. The cytotoxicity analysis revealed that the synthesized AgNPs were non-toxic to the normal cells. The synthesized AgNPs exhibited significant free radical scavenging activity. The in vitro antidiabetic activity showed that the synthesized AgNPs increased glucose utilization, decreased hepatic glucose production, inhibited the activity of starch digestive enzymes such as α-amylase and α-glucosidase, and were not involved in the stimulation of pancreatic cells for the secretion of insulin. The in silico antidiabetic activity analysis (molecular docking) also revealed that the silver atoms of the AgNPs interacted with the amino acid residues of α-amylase, α-glucosidase, and insulin. The present study proved that the AgNPs synthesized from A. sativum have prominent antidiabetic activity in terms of reducing the hyperglycemia through the increased glucose utilization, decreased hepatic glucose production, and the inhibition of α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes. In the present study, a green, sustainable, simple and low-cost method was adopted for the synthesis of ZnO NPs, for the first time, using the aqueous extract of sea lavender, Limonium pruinosum (L.) Chaz., as a reducing, capping, and stabilizing agent. The obtained ZnO NPs were characterized using ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–VIS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The UV–Vis spectra of the green synthesized ZnO NPs showed a strong absorption peak at about 370 nm. Both electron microscopy and XRD confirmed the hexagonal/cubic crystalline structure of ZnO NPs with an average size ~ 41 nm. It is worth noting that the cytotoxic effect of the ZnO NPs on the investigated cancer cells is dose-dependent. The IC50 of skin cancer was obtained at 409.7 µg/ml ZnO NPs. Also, the phyto-synthesized nanoparticles exhibited potent antibacterial and antifungal activity particularly against Gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739) and the pathogenic fungus Candida albicans (ATCC 10221). The aim of this work was to prepare a biocompatible implant material that enables the release of drug for osteoporosis—risedronate. To achieve this goal, a titanium implant coated with a biocompatible Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework 8 (ZIF-8) layer was prepared that promotes osseointegration at the bone-implant interface. The modifications of the titanium alloy as well as sorption and desorption processes were confirmed using a variety of methods: SEM, EDS XPS, and FT-IR imaging (to determine surface modification, drug distribution, and risedronate sorption), and UV–Vis spectroscopy (to determine drug sorption and release profile). Both the ZIF-8 layer and the drug are evenly distributed on the surface of the titanium alloy. The obtained ZIF-8 layer did not contain impurities and zinc ions were strongly bounded by ZIF-8 layer. The ZIF-8 layer was stable during drug sorption. The drug was released in small doses for 16 h, which may help patients recover immediately after surgery. This is the first case of using ZIF-8 on the surface of the titanium alloy as carrier that releases the drug under the influence of body fluids directly at the site of the disease. The science of nanotechnology is expanding daily and has the potential to benefit people. Moringa oleifera is an abundant source of phenolic compounds, which are bioactive substances. It is recognised as a necessary plant because of its medicinal potential and a wide variety of health benefits. The aim of the current study is to examine the antioxidant, antibacterial, and cytotoxicity effects of five nanoparticles (La2O3, CuO, Fe2O3, Ag, and ZnO) made using bioactive chemicals in the aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera leaves on four human cell lines (T47D, HepG2, A549, and Wi38). The UV–visible spectroscopy analysis with a surface plasmon peak in the 300–490 nm range and the value of the zeta potential of the various biosynthesized nanoparticles ranged from + 31 to + 37 mV, indicated the repulsion between the particles and the stability of the formulation nanoparticles confirmed the formation of all nanoparticles. Additionally, the DPPH method was used to assess the antioxidant activity of five distinct metal nanoparticles. The results show that this method works in parallel and is dependent on both the concentration of NPs and the incubation time. The anticancer effect of synthesized nanoparticles against four different cell lines has been tested. The cytotoxicity assay showed a dose-dependent and time-dependent effect of nanoparticles. The obtained results conclude that acceptable potency against T47D and A549 cell lines with IC50 ranged from 38 to 210 μg/mL and 26 to 115 μg/mL, respectively. However, HepG2 and Wi38 cell lines showed relatively higher resistance against all tested nanoparticles when compared with Doxorubicin. Moreover, the antibacterial results revealed that silver nanoparticles exhibited the highest antibacterial activity against both Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus. In this manuscript, "Get two mangoes with one stone" strategy was used to study the electrochemical detection and photocatalytic mineralization of furaltadone (FLT) drug using Cu/Ni/TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites for the first time. The bi-functional nanocomposites were synthesized through a hydrothermal synthesis technique. The successfully synthesized nanocomposites were analyzed by various analytical techniques. The Cu/Ni/TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites decorated screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) exhibit a good electrocatalytic ability towards detection of FLT. Moreover, the electrocatalytic detection of FLT based on the nanocomposites decorated SPCE have high stability, lower detection limit, and excellent sensitivity of 0.0949 μM and 1.9288 μA μM−1 cm−2, respectively. In addition, the nanocomposites decorated SPCE electrodes performed in real samples, such as river water and tap water, the satisfactory results were observed. As UV–Visible spectroscopy revealed that the Cu/Ni/TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites had an excellent photocatalytic ability for degradation of FLT drug. The higher degradation efficiency of 75% was achieved within 45 min under irradiation of visible light. In addition, after the degradation process various intermediates are produced which is confirmed by GC–MS analysis. A novel nano-palladium (II) Schiff base complex (C1) is synthesized by the reaction between palladium chloride and the Schiff base N, N'-1, 2-phenylene) bis (3 -aminobenzamide (A1). The prepared compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, Ultraviolet–Visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). A combined solvent sublation-ICP OES methodology has been studied for the preconcentration, separation and determination of trace palladium (II) in media of diverse origin using the Schiff base ligand (A1). The different experimental variables that affect the sublation efficiency (S, %) were thoroughly investigated viz.: pH of sample solution; amounts of A1, Pd (II) and TBAB; type and amounts of surfactants, types of organic solvent, temperature and stirring time. The method involves the determination of trace palladium (II) after selective separation by solvent sublation, thus eliminating the effect of foreign ions and increasing the sensitivity. Also, palladium is determined directly in the organic phase, which decreases the determination time and its loss during determination. At optimum conditions, the linear range of Pd (II) was 10.0–100.0 ngmL−1. The coefficient of determination, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.9943, 21.29 ngL−1 and 64.5 ngL−1, respectively. This sublation method was applied to real samples and recoveries of more than 95% were obtained in the spiked samples with a preconcentration factor of 100. We present here the FT-IR, DFT computation, XRD, optical, and photophysical characterization of a heterocyclic compound with thienopyrimidine and pyran moieties. TD-DFT/DMOl3 and TD-DFT/CASTEP computations were used to study the geometry of isolated and dimer molecules and their optical behavior. The indirect (3.93 eV) and direct (3.29 eV) optical energy bandgaps, HOMO–LUMO energy gap (3.02 eV), and wavelength of maximum absorption (353 nm) were determined in the gas phase with M062X/6-31+G (d, p). A thin film of the studied molecule was studied using XRD, FT-IR, and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The average crystallite size was found as 74.95 nm. Also, the photoluminescence spectroscopy revealed that the compound exhibited different emission bands at the visible range with different intensities depending on the degree of molecular aggregation. For instance, solutions with different concentrations emitted blue, cyan, and green light. 3,3-Diphenylbenzo[f]chromene (1) represents an important architectural platform for photochromic systems. Since the practical utility of such chromophores is largely dependent upon the kinetics of coloration and decoloration, elucidating the mechanistic details of these processes is of great value. Toward this end, we studied the photochromic reaction of (3-(2-methoxyphenyl)-3-phenyl-3H-benzo[f]chromene (2) by both time-resolved UV–vis and mid-IR spectroscopies. We found that irradiation of 2 at 365 nm generates long-lived colored transoid-cis isomers with lifetimes of 17.1 s and 17.5 min (at 21 °C) and even longer-lived transoid-trans isomers with a lifetime of 16 h. These experimental results were supplemented with ab initio ground-state and excited-state calculations, and the resulting theoretical interpretation may be useful for the design of new photochromic systems with optimized photofunctionality. Numerous studies have shown that nanosized zeolitic imidazolate framework particles (ZIF-8 NPs) serve as promising vehicles for pH-responsive drug delivery. An understanding of their interaction with serum proteins present in physiological systems will thus be of critical importance. In this work, monodisperse ZIF-8 NPs with an average size of 60 nm were synthesized at room temperature and characterized for their various physicochemical properties. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) was used as model serum protein for various interaction studies with ZIF-8 NPs. Spectroscopic techniques such as UV–visible and fluorescence spectroscopy indicated the formation of a ground-state complex with a binding constant of the order 103 M−1 and a single binding site. Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy confirmed the mechanism of quenching to be static. The aim of this work was to prepare a biocompatible implant material that enables the release of drug for osteoporosis—risedronate. To achieve this goal, a titanium implant coated with a biocompatible Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework 8 (ZIF-8) layer was prepared that promotes osseointegration at the bone-implant interface. The modifications of the titanium alloy as well as sorption and desorption processes were confirmed using a variety of methods: SEM, EDS XPS, and FT-IR imaging (to determine surface modification, drug distribution, and risedronate sorption), and UV–Vis spectroscopy (to determine drug sorption and release profile). Both the ZIF-8 layer and the drug are evenly distributed on the surface of the titanium alloy. The obtained ZIF-8 layer did not contain impurities and zinc ions were strongly bounded by ZIF-8 layer. The ZIF-8 layer was stable during drug sorption. The drug was released in small doses for 16 h, which may help patients recover immediately after surgery. This is the first case of using ZIF-8 on the surface of the titanium alloy as carrier that releases the drug under the influence of body fluids directly at the site of the disease. We have faced the preparation of fully water-soluble fluorescent peptide substrate with long-term environmental stability (in solution more than 35 weeks) and, accordingly, with stable results in the use of this probe in determining the activity of enzymes. We have achieved this goal by preparing a co-polymer of the commercial N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (99.5% mol) and a fluorescent substrate for trypsin activity determination having a vinylic group (0.5%). The activity of trypsin has been measured in water solutions of this polymer over time, contrasted against the activity of both the commercial substrate Z-L-Arg-7-amido-4-methylcoumarin hydrochloride and its monomeric derivative, prepared ad-hoc. Initially, the activity of the sensory polymer was 74.53 ± 1.72 nmol/min/mg of enzyme, while that of the commercial substrate was 20.44 ± 0.65 nmol/min/mg of enzyme, the former maintained stable along weeks and the latter with a deep decay to zero in three weeks. The 'protection' effect exerted by the polymer chain has been studied by solvation studies by UV–Vis spectroscopy, steady-state & time resolved fluorescence, thermogravimetry and isothermal titration calorimetry. Pomegranate is rich in high value nutritional substances known to be beneficial against several diseases and its use in medicine is known since ancient times. Due to its properties and delicious taste, pomegranate fresh fruit juices demand has been growing worldwide and its adulteration is becoming a problem. Low-cost, user friendly and fast detection methods are therefore desirable in order to easily and rapidly detect adulteration of short shelf-life fresh fruit juices. For this purpose fresh squeezed arils pomegranate juice samples adulterated with less expensive apple juice concentrate were investigated by UV–visible spectroscopy combined with multivariate statistical analysis. Unsupervised principle component analysis (PCA), supervised projection to latent structure discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and orthogonal projection to latent structure discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) were performed on the full spectra. The tattoos removal has become an issue upon spread of the tattooing practice worldwide and hindsight regrets. Lasers are typically used for the purpose, though some colours such as green are considered "recalcitrant" to the treatment. In the current investigation, we aim at determining the efficacy of removal of a green ink water dispersion, using 5 laser treatments: Nd:YAG nano- and picosecond lasers in normal and array mode and Ruby nanosecond laser, keeping the total irradiated energy constant. The UV–Vis spectroscopy of the treated samples indicate that Nd:YAG picosecond laser is most effective, and the Ruby nanosecond laser is the least efficient. Fragment compounds generated from the pigment and siloxanes are common to all treatments, whereas hydrocarbon emerge by a larger amount upon Nd:YAG nanosecond treatment. Fibres are formed upon picosecond treatments and when operating in array mode, and lamellae are achieved by Ruby nanosecond laser treatment. In this manuscript, "Get two mangoes with one stone" strategy was used to study the electrochemical detection and photocatalytic mineralization of furaltadone (FLT) drug using Cu/Ni/TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites for the first time. The bi-functional nanocomposites were synthesized through a hydrothermal synthesis technique. The successfully synthesized nanocomposites were analyzed by various analytical techniques. The Cu/Ni/TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites decorated screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) exhibit a good electrocatalytic ability towards detection of FLT. Moreover, the electrocatalytic detection of FLT based on the nanocomposites decorated SPCE have high stability, lower detection limit, and excellent sensitivity of 0.0949 μM and 1.9288 μA μM−1 cm−2, respectively. In addition, the nanocomposites decorated SPCE electrodes performed in real samples, such as river water and tap water, the satisfactory results were observed. As UV–Visible spectroscopy revealed that the Cu/Ni/TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites had an excellent photocatalytic ability for degradation of FLT drug. The higher degradation efficiency of 75% was achieved within 45 min under irradiation of visible light. In addition, after the degradation process various intermediates are produced which is confirmed by GC–MS analysis. Nanotechnology is a vast field of science with the most vibrant and conspicuous applications. The green synthesis approach is cost-effective, eco-friendly, and produces the most stable metal-based nanoparticles without the use of toxic chemicals. This study presents the green synthesis of iron nanoparticles (FeNPs). For biosynthesis of FeNPs, Phoenix dactylifera extract was used as a reducing agent and iron sulfate heptahydrate (FeSO4·7H2O) was used as a substrate. FeNPs were characterized by different techniques including UV–Visible spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and nano zeta-sizer analysis. The antimicrobial activity of FeNPs synthesized by using an aqueous extract of Phoenix dactylifera was evaluated against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus leutus, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. A notable color change from yellow to black confirmed the synthesis of FeNPs. The sharp peak at 450 nm UV–Visible spectroscopy confirmed the synthesis of FeNPs. FTIR showed the presence of O–H and C=C stretching due to the presence of phenol and alkene functional groups. The average size of FeNPs was 6092 d.nm. The results of antimicrobial activity showed that FeNPs exhibit different potential against different bacterial strains with a maximum 25 ± 0.360 zone of inhibition against Escherichia coli. Investigation of the physical properties of carbon nanowall (CNW) films is carried out in correlation with the growth time. The structural, electronic, optical and electrical properties of CNW films are investigated using electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy, UV–Vis spectroscopy, Hall Effect measurement system, Four Point Probing system, and thermoelectric measurements. Shorter growth time results in thinner CNW films with a densely spaced labyrinth structure, while a longer growth time results in thicker CNW films with a petal structure. This study reports on the crude oil-sensing using carbon nano structures (CNSs). A mixture of CNSs was obtained by a simple method of preparation using palm cellulose ash and nitric acid as precursors, the powder was characterized by x-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. The optical density of crude oil from Rhoud El-Baguel area (Southeast of Algeria) studied using UV-Vis spectroscopy, before and after adding an amount of CNSs powder to view the CNSs crude oil sensing and therefore a new method to determine the quality of crude oils and the comparison between them. Results show that CNSs prepared from palm cellulose ash have a good crystallinity and it is formed mainly from carbon nano dots (CNDs) with 4.32 Å in layers spacing and 7.4 Å in crystallite size, indicate that CNSs can be used as an excellent crude oil sensor. Through the high affinity of the β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) cavity for adamantane moieties, novel polysaccharide-gold nanocluster supramolecular conjugates (HACD-AuNPs) were successfully constructed from gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) bearing adamantane moieties and cyclodextrin-grafted hyaluronic acid (HACD). Due to their porous structure, the supramolecular conjugates could serve as a versatile and biocompatible platform for the loading and delivery of various anticancer drugs, such as doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX), paclitaxel (PTX), camptothecin (CPT), irinotecan hydrochloride (CPT-11), and topotecan hydrochloride (TPT), by taking advantage of the controlled association/dissociation of drug molecules from the cavities formed by the HACD skeletons and AuNPs cores as well as by harnessing the efficient targeting of cancer cells by hyaluronic acid. Significantly, the release of anticancer drugs from the drug@HACD-AuNPs system was pH-responsive, with more efficient release occurring under a mildly acidic environment, such as that in a cancer cell. Taking the anticancer drug DOX as an example, cell viability experiments revealed that the DOX@HACD-AuNPs system exhibited similar tumor cell inhibition abilities but lower toxicity than free DOX due to the hyaluronic acid reporter-mediated endocytosis. Recently, increase bacterial resistance to antimicrobial compounds issue constitutes a real threat to human health. One of the useful materials for bacterial control is Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Researchers tend to use biogenic agents to synthesize stable and safe AgNPs. The principal aim of this study was to investigate the ability of lichen in AgNPs formation and to find out their suppression ability to MDR bacteria as well as their cytotoxic activity. In the current study, lichens (Xanthoria parietina, Flavopunctelia flaventior) were collected from the south of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Lichens methanolic extracts were used for conversion of Ag ions to AgNPs. Prepared biogenic AgNPs were characterized by Ultraviolet–Visible (UV–Vis) Spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Zeta potential and Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS). Lichens Secondary metabolites were determined by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS). The antibacterial activity and synergistic effect of AgNPs were evaluated against pathogenic bacteria, including gram-positive; Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), and gram-negative; (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli) as well as the reference strains (ATCC) using the agar disk diffusion method. Cytotoxic effect of biogenic AgNPs was tested against HCT 116 (Human Colorectal Cancer cell), MDA-MB-231 (Breast cancer cell), and FaDu (Pharynx cancer cell) by MTT test. TEM imaging showed well-dispersed spherical particles of 1–40 nm size as well as zeta size showed 69–145 nm. Furthermore, FTIR and GC–MS identified various lichen chemical molecules. On the other hand, the highest antibacterial activity of AgNPs was noticed against P. aeruginosa, followed by MRSA, VRE, and E. coli. AgNPs influence on gram-negative bacteria was greater than that on gram-positive bacteria and their synergistic effect with some antibiotics was noted against examined microbes. Moreover, higher cytotoxicity for biogenic AgNPs against FaDu and HCT 116 cell line in relation to MDA-MB-231 was noted. Given the current findings, the biogenic AgNPs mediated by lichens had positive antibacterial, synergistic and cytotoxic powers. Knowledge of the distribution of the aspect ratios (ARs) in a chemically-synthesized colloidal solution of Gold Nano Rods (GNRs) is an important measure in determining the quality of synthesis, and consequently the performance of the GNRs generated for various applications. In this work, an algorithm has been developed based on the Bellman Principle of Optimality to readily determine the AR distribution of synthesized GNRs in colloidal solutions. This is achieved by theoretically fitting the longitudinal plasmon resonance of GNRs obtained by UV-visible spectroscopy. The AR distribution obtained from the use of the algorithm developed have shown good agreement with those theoretically generated one as well as with the previously reported results. After bench-marking, the algorithm has been applied to determine the mean and standard deviation of the AR distribution of two GNRs solutions synthesized and examined in this work. The comparison with experimentally derived results from the use of expensive Transmission Electron Microscopic images and Dynamic Light Scattering technique shows that the algorithm developed offers a fast and thus potentially cost-effective solution to determine the quality of the synthesized GNRs specifically needed for many potential applications for the advanced sensor systems. Pure and co-doped Titania thin films were prepared on aluminum substrates through the sol-gel method. The co-doped sample showed higher photocatalytic activity on benzene degradation compared to pure TiO2 under visible light illumination. XRD results showed the anatase phase for both TiO2 and co-doped TiO2 lattices with an average crystalline size of 12.9 and 10.4 nm, respectively. According to the UV-visible absorption spectra results, co-doped Titania showed higher visible light absorption compared to pure Titania. The synergistic effect of dopants caused a redshift to visible light absorption and also the lifetime of the photogenerated electron-hole were increased by induced electron levels in Titania lattice. The novelty of this study is the reactor's specific design. We employed Al mesh as thin film substrate for 3 main reasons, first, the large surface area of the Al mesh causes to increase specific surface area of the photocatalysts, also it is a formable substrate which can be engineered geometrically to decrease the shadow spots so the thin films will receive the highest light irradiation. Also, the Al mesh flexibility facilitates the procedure of reactor design to reach a minimum pressure drop of airflow while it is installed in the air conditioners or HVAC systems. Nowadays, due to environmental pollution and natural energy consumption caused by waste paper, many researches are being conducted on the reuse of printed-paper. To recycle the paper, de-inking has to be performed. In this article, in order to reduce the use of the commonly used de-inking chemicals, the effect of an atmospheric pressure helium plasma treatment on the de-inking enhancement of printed-paper is studied. Through colorimeter and UV-visible spectrometer measurements the plasma treatment is shown to speed up the de-inking. While SEM observations and FTIR measurements suggest that the paper quality is retained upon plasma treatment, the increase of surface hydrophilicity measured by water contact angle measurements, compared to non-treated paper, is believed to enhance the fiber swelling of the paper and lead to a faster ink removal.
