Abstract This study's purpose was to confirm the observed underexpression of miRNA-410 in glioma tissues and several glioma cells by Quantitative RT-PCR. Our findings suggest that epigenetic alterations occurring at the promoter region of miR-410 may be responsible for the reduced expression of miR-410 in glioma. The occurrence of DNA methylation in the miR-410 promoter was verified to be more prevalent through glioma tissues contrasted to adjacent non-tumor brain tissues through the utilization of methylation-specific PCR and CpG bisulfite sequencing sites in the miR-410 promoter region. Accordantly, miR-410 expression in glioma cell lines was observed to be significantly lesser in comparison to that of the human fetal glial cell line. In addition, it was demonstrated through gain- and loss-of-function investigations that miR-410 exerts significant regulation over cell growth, cell cycle development, and glioma cell apoptosis. The findings of the Luciferase reporter assay and western blot analysis indicate that miR-410 has a direct effect on the 3’-UTR of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3), thereby inhibiting its expression within glioma cells. Besides, our clinical investigation indicates a negative association between miR-410 expression and STAT3 within the glioma tissues of humans. In aggregate, the data provided in this investigation indicates that miR-410 is subjected to underexpression via DNA methylation. Furthermore, it has been observed to perform its function as a tumor suppressor in glioma cells through direct targeting of STAT3. The previously mentioned results could potentially have significant implications for the advancement of a new therapeutic approach for treating glioma.

The design of popular disposable electronic cigarettes (ECs) was analyzed, and the concentrations of WS-23, a synthetic coolant, in EC fluids were determined for 22 devices from 4 different brands. All products contained WS-23 in concentrations that ranged from 1.0 to 40.1 mg/mL (mean = 21.4 ± 9.2 mg/mL). To determine the effects of WS-23 on human bronchial epithelium in isolation of other chemicals, we exposed EpiAirway 3-D microtissues to WS-23 at the air liquid interface (ALI) using a cloud chamber that generated aerosols without heating. Proteomics analysis of exposed tissues revealed that the cytoskeleton was a major target of WS-23. BEAS-2B cells were exposed to WS-23 in submerged culture to validate the main results from proteomics. F-actin, which was visualized with phalloidin, decreased concentration dependently in WS-23 treated BEAS-2B cells, and cells became immotile in concentrations above 1.5 mg/mL. Gap closure, which depends on both cell proliferation and migration, was inhibited by 0.45 mg/mL of WS-23. These data show that WS-23 is being added to popular EC fluids at concentrations that can impair processes dependent on the actin cytoskeleton and disturb homeostasis of the bronchial epithelium. The unregulated use of WS-23 in EC products may harm human health.

Abstract Allergic rhinitis (AR) remains a major health problem worldwide. Compared with traditional oral drugs, nasal administration avoids first-pass metabolism and achieve faster and more effective efficacy. In this study, we used the ion crosslinking method to prepare quercetin–chitosan nasal adaptive nanomedicine (QCS) delivery system and evaluated in the treatment of allergic rhinitis mice models. The obtained positively charged nanoparticles with a particle size of 229.2 ± 0.2 nm have excellent characteristics in encapsulation efficiency (79.604%), drug loading rate (14.068%), drug release (673.068 μg) and stability(> 7 days). Excitingly, QCS treatment significantly reduced the number of sneezing and nasal rubbing events in AR mice, while reducing the levels of inflammatory factors such as immunoglobulin E (IgE), interleukin (IL)-17, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and (IL)-6 to alleviate AR symptoms. Hematoxylin–eosin (HE) staining also showed the damaged nasal mucosa was improved. These experimental results suggest that QCS can effectively suppress allergic inflammation in a mouse model and hold promise as a therapeutic option for allergic rhinitis.

Abstract Currently the main method of mine solid waste disposal and utilization is to apply gangue to underground filling. For the grading characteristics of coal gangue in the hollow zone in underground filling, the state of pressure and the mechanical properties of coal gangue filling materials under different particle sizes. In this paper, through laboratory tests and numerical simulations, the bearing characteristics and deformation damage of gangue are deeply investigated and analyzed from both macroscopic and microscopic perspectives. The results of the study show that when the axial pressure reaches a certain threshold, the strain increases accordingly with the increase in grain size. Under the axial pressure condition of 15MPa, the bearing capacity of gangue with different grain sizes under the lateral pressure of steel cylinder showed obvious positive correlation. In the software PFC3D simulation, as the particle size of gangue particles increases, it has a significant effect on the natural stacking porosity of the specimen, and gangue particles are more prone to force chain instability and failure. Mixed particle size gangue can significantly reduce the natural accumulation porosity of the specimen, thus improving its overall stability. Significant displacement triangles existed in the top and lateral directions of the B1 (0–5 mm), B2 (5–10 mm), and B5 (0–20 mm) specimens under the same circumferential pressure conditions. The results of the study are of great significance for further selection of reasonable gangue gradation and determination of its mechanical properties.

Abstract Forest fire have a serious impact on forest ecosystems, the safety of people’s lives and property, and social stability. The height of surface flames, as the main indicator of forest fire behavior, which is an important parameter for forest fire management. The relationship between fireline intensity and flame height proposed by Byram has been widely used in estimating flame height; however, its applicability to the surface fuel of typical forest stands in the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau of China has not yet been analyzed. In this study, the surface fuel in the area was taken as the research object, and the flame height of different fuel bed characteristics was measured through an indoor burning experiment. The applicability of three methods—the directly used Byram’s model, corrected model, and re-established prediction model—was analyzed to estimate the flame height in the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau. We found that the flame height of the typical forest stands in the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau ranged from 0.05 to 1.2 m and was significantly affected by the moisture content, load, and height of the fuel bed. Although the fireline intensity exhibited a significant linear relationship with the flame height, directly using Byram’s method to predict the flame height of surface fires was impractical, as its mean prediction error exceeded 150%. The mean relative errors of the prediction model obtained by modifying Byram’s method and that based on the characteristics of the fuel bed were both within 15%, which is significantly lower than that of the original Byram’s method. Based on the results of this study, we propose two methods that are suitable for predicting the flame height of surface fires in the typical forests of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau in China, which is of great significance for further understanding the relationship between flame height, fireline intensity, and scientific forest fire management.

Abstract As significant evidence of ice-rich permafrost degradation due to climate warming, thermokarst lake was developing and undergoing substantial changes. Thermokarst lake was an essential ecosystem component, which significantly impacted the global carbon cycle, hydrology process and the stability of the Qinghai–Tibet Engineering Corridor. In this paper, based on Sentinel-2 (2021) and Landsat (1988–2020) images, thermokarst lakes within a 5000 m range along both sides of Qinghai–Tibet Highway were extracted to analyse the spatio-temporal variations. The results showed that the number and area of thermokarst lake in 2021 were 3965 and 4038.6 ha (1 ha = 10,000 m $$^{2}$$ 2 ), with an average size of 1.0186 ha. Small thermokarst lakes ( $$\,$$ > 10 ha) occupied for 44.92% of the whole lake area. In all sub-regions, the number of small lake far exceeds 75% of the total lake number in each sub-region. R1 sub-region (around Wudaoliang region) had the maximum number density of thermokarst lakes with 0.0071, and R6 sub-region (around Anduo region) had the minimum number density with 0.0032. Thermokarst lakes were mainly distributed within elevation range of 4300 m–5000 m a.s.l. (94.27% and 97.13% of the total number and size), on flat terrain with slopes less than 3 $$^\circ$$ ∘ (99.17% and 98.47% of the total number and surface) and in the north, south, and southeast aspects (51.98% and 50.00% of the total number and area). Thermokarst lakes were significantly developed in warm permafrost region with mean annual ground temperature (MAGT) > − 1.5 $$^\circ$$ ∘ C, accounting for 47.39% and 54.38% of the total count and coverage, respectively. From 1988 to 2020, in spite of shrinkage or even drain of small portion of thermokarst lake, there was a general expansion trend of thermokarst lake with increase in number of 195 (8.58%) and area of 1160.19 ha (41.36%), which decreased during 1988–1995 (− 702 each year and − 706.27 ha/yr) and then increased during 1995–2020 (184.96–702 each year and 360.82 ha/yr). This significant expansion was attributed to ground ice melting as rising air temperature at a rate of 0.03–0.04 $$^\circ$$ ∘ C/yr. Followed by the increasing precipitation (1.76–3.07 mm/yr) that accelerated the injection of water into lake.

Abstract The increasing number of plant mitochondrial DNA genomes (mtDNA) sequenced reveals the extent of transfer from both chloroplast DNA genomes (cpDNA) and nuclear DNA genomes (nDNA). This study created a library and assembled the chloroplast and mitochondrial genomes of the leafy sweet potato better to understand the extent of mitochondrial and chloroplast gene transfer. The full-length chloroplast genome of the leafy sweet potato (OM808940) is 161,387 bp, with 132 genes annotated, including 87 protein-coding genes, 8 rRNA genes, and 37 tRNA genes. The mitochondrial genome (OM808941) was 269,578 bp in length and contained 69 functional genes, including 39 protein-coding genes, 6 rRNA genes, and 24 tRNA genes. 68 SSR loci were found in the leafy sweet potato organelle genome, including 54 in the chloroplast genome and 14 in the mitochondria genome. In the sweet potato mitochondrial genome, most genes have RNA editing sites, and the conversion ratio from hydrophilic amino acids to hydrophobic amino acids is the highest, reaching 47.12%. Horizontal transfer occurs in the sweet potato organelle genome and nuclear genome. 40 mitochondrial genome segments share high homology with 14 chloroplast genome segments, 33 of which may be derived from chloroplast genome horizontal transfer. 171 mitochondrial genome sequences come from the horizontal transfer of nuclear genome. The phylogenetic analysis of organelle genes revealed that the leafy sweet potato was closely related to the tetraploid wild species Ipomoea tabascana and the wild diploid species Ipomoea trifida.

Abstract Necroptosis is a recently identified caspase-independent form of cell death which plays a significant role in the onset and progression of cancer. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are vital for the development of uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC) because they are an important regulatory component in necroptosis. This study developed a new necroptosis-related miRNAs profile to predict the prognosis of patients with UCEC. The TCGA-UCEC cohort’s RNA sequencing data, consisting of 534 tumor samples and 33 normal samples, was downloaded. Ten differentially expressed miRNAs related to necroptosis were identified. A prediction model for necroptosis-related miRNAs was then created through COX regression and nomograms analysis. Clinical and pathological parameters were integrated to construct a nomogram and evaluate the model. Prognosis-related miRNAs were further used to predict target genes, and functional analysis was conducted to explore the potential mechanisms of these target genes. Subsequently, immune infiltration analysis was performed using transcriptome data to identify immune genes associated with prognosis, and the expression levels of target gene was validated using UCEC tissues. We identified 7 up-regulated miRNAs (hsa-miR-577, hsa-miR-7-5p, hsa-miR-210-3p, hsa-miR-210-5p, hsa-miR-200a-5p, hsa-miR-141-3p, hsa-miR-425-5p) and 3 down-regulated miRNAs (hsa-miR-7-2-3p, hsa-miR-383-5p, hsa-miR-29a-3p). The risk signature was based on univariate and multivariate COX analyses, constructed using 2 independent prognostic factors and miRNAs (hsa-miR-425-5p, hsa-miR-7-5p) associated with necroptosis. Nomograms demonstrated the prognostic value of risk level, age, FIGO stage, and histological type. Abstract The objective of this study was to analyze the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) characteristics produced by antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), mobile genetic elements (MGEs) and gene cassettes in Escherichia coli isolated from the feces of captive black bears. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by using the disk diffusion method, and both MGEs and integron gene cassettes were detected by polymerase chain reaction. Our results showed that 43.7% (62/142) of the isolates were multidrug resistant strains and 97.9% (139/142) of the isolates were resistant to at least one antibiotic. The highest AMR phenotype was observed for tetracycline (79.6%, 113/142), followed by ampicillin (50.0%, 71/142), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (43.7%, 62/142) and cefotaxime (35.9%, 51/142). However, all isolates were susceptible to tobramycin. tetA had the highest occurrence in 6 ARGs in 142 E. coli isolates (76.8%, 109/142). Ten mobile genetic elements were observed and IS26 was dominant (88.0%, 125/142). ISECP1 was positively associated with five β-lactam antibiotics. ISCR3/14, IS1133 and intI3 were not detected. Seventy-five E. coli isolates (65 intI1-positive isolates, 2 intI2-positive isolates and 8 intI1 + intI2-positive isolates) carried integrons. Five gene cassettes (dfrA1, aadA2, dfrA17-aadA5, aadA2-dfrA12 and dfrA1-aadA1) were identified in the intI1-positive isolates and 2 gene cassettes (dfrA1-catB2-sat2-aadA1 and dfrA1-catB2-sat1-aadA1) were observed in the intI2-positive isolates. Monitoring of ARGs, MGEs and gene cassettes is important to understand the prevalence of AMR, which may help to introduce measures to prevent and control of AMR in E. coli for captive black bears.

Abstract Methyltransferase-like protein 7A (METTL7A) is an m6A RNA methyltransferase that has been linked to cancer prognosis and drug resistance. However, a comprehensive analysis of METTL7A is lacking. The expression of METTL7A, prognostic performance, correlation with microsatellite instability (MSI), tumor mutational burden (TMB), and immune infiltration was investigated in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Immunohistochemistry staining was applied to detect METTL7A in 6 tumors. METTL7A was significantly decreased in 19 cancers in TCGA including LUAD. Alterations of METTL7A include amplification and mutation, and epigenetic alterations revealed increased promoter methylation may result in down-regulation of METTL7A in LUAD. We also found that METTL7A was linked to both TMB and MSI in LUAD. METTL7A was increasingly correlated with invasive immune cells, while being negatively associated with Macrophages M0, Mast cells activated, activated memory CD4 T cells, CD8 T cells, and follicular helper T cells in several tumors. Additionally, METTL7A showed similar correlation with immune therapy-related genes across cancers. Our biological validation found that the protein levels of METTL7A were down-regulated in breast cancer (BRCA), endometrioid cancer (UCEC), colon cancer (COAD), prostate cancer (PRAD), and kidney clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), as detected by immunohistochemistry staining. Overall, our work indicates that METTL7A may serve as promising diagnostic and prognostic indicator of LUAD, and our work sheds light on the potential immunological and prognostic roles of METTL7A in human cancers.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine the long-term pattern of plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) trajectories and to explore the relationship between PAC trajectory patterns and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in patients with hypertension. Participants were surveyed three times between 2010 and 2016, and latent mixed modeling was employed to determine the trajectory of PAC over the exposure period (2010–2016). A Cox regression analysis was used to examine the association between PAC trajectory patterns and the risk of CVD (stroke and myocardial infarction). Hazard ratios (HRs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated and reported. During a median follow-up of 4.10 (3.37–4.50) years, 82 incident CVD cases (33 myocardial infarction cases and 49 stroke cases) were identified. Among all three PAC models, the high-stability PAC pattern exhibited the highest risk of CVD. After full adjustment for all covariables, HRs were 2.19 (95% CI 1.59–3.01) for the moderate-stable pattern and 2.56 (95% CI 1.68–3.91) for the high-stable pattern in comparison to the low-stable pattern. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses verified this association. The presence of a high-stable PAC trajectory pattern is associated with an elevated risk of CVD in hypertensive patients. Nevertheless, more studies are warranted to confirm these findings.

Abstract To determine the dietary structure and its associated factors of tuberculosis (TB) patients in the community. This cross-sectional study analysed the dietary intake of 300 TB patients in two impoverished counties in China. Food intake was collected by using food frequency and two consecutive 24-h dietary review (24hdr) methods. The dietary composition and dietary structure of TB patients were compared with China’s 2022 Dietary Reference Intake (DRIs) and the average reference value of dietary composition (ARC) in China in 2013. Binary logistic regression models were used to explore the factors associated with inadequate intake of animal food, insufficient protein and fat energy supply in patients with TB. The daily intake of various foods in TB patients was measured and the results were as follows: staple foods—median 372.12 g (interquartile range [IQR] 315.87 g); vegetables—median 200.00 g (IQR 205.55 g); fruits—median 20.22 g (IQR 36.82 g); animal foods—median 100.82 g (IQR 180.74 g); dairy products—median 0.00 g (IQR 0.00 g); nuts—median 17.10 g (IQR 29.75 g). Abstract Compared to non-connected vehicle environments, the connected vehicle environment establishes vehicle interconnection through communication technologies, resulting in more complex interaction, network topologies, and large-scale inputs. This complexity renders traditional trajectory prediction models, which rely primarily on inputting historical information of the target vehicle, inadequate for handling the complex and dynamic interactive lane-changing scenarios in connected vehicle environments. In a connected vehicle environment, it is necessary to propose a more targeted and stable lane-changing behavior prediction method based on vehicle traveling characteristics. Taking into account dynamic spatial interaction among vehicles, this study proposes a multi-modality trajectory prediction model called STA-LSTM to perform analysis on the potential interactive behaviors among vehicles under connected vehicle lane-changing scenarios, and specifically to expand the multi-modality feature input of the vehicle trajectory prediction model. The spatial grid occupancy method is used to model the interactions between vehicles. A space-dimensional attention mechanism is introduced to adaptively match the influencing weights of the surrounding vehicles with the target vehicle and to improve the interactive information extraction method. In addition, the attention module is incorporated into the LSTM decoder from the time dimension so that the established model can identify significant historical hidden features during each trajectory decoding process. To account for the uncertainty of trajectory prediction, the vectors of vehicle interactions are incorporated into contextual information to improve the reliability of prediction results and the robustness of the established model. Compared with conventional baseline models, the proposed model exhibited lower root mean square error (RMSE) and negative log-likelihood (NLL) values, and the RMSE values at different prediction times of 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, and 5s are 0.46m, 1.15m, 1.89m, 2.84m, and 4.05m, respectively. This indicates that the proposed model can accurately predict the interactions between vehicles and the travel paths of surrounding target vehicles.

Abstract At present, a few scholars studied influencing factors, rules and mechanisms of decision-making in ethical dilemmas. Many factors have been identified, and a few rules and mechanisms have been proposed. However, due to the inability to evaluate the weight and role of each factor in decision-making, it is difficult to establish a computational decision-making model to solve ethical dilemmas. Therefore, entropy weighted method (EWM) and Attribute Value Weighted EWM (AVWEWM) are used to process 84 dilemmas respectively to evaluate the weight and role of each factor in decision-making, then decision-making models based on EWM and AVWEWM are constructed to make decisions during autonomous vehicle (AV) crashes respectively. Lastly, 40 dilemmas are designed to test both decision-making models. The test results indicate that both can make clear decision-making in 40 dilemmas. However, the decision-making by AVWEWM is more consistent with public opinion than EWM. In addition, according to the weight and role of each factor in decision-making, it can also provide a few references for traffic management and legal departments to formulate traffic laws and regulations for AV in the future.

Abstract Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a progressive disease. We utilized bioinformatics analysis and experimental research to identify biomarkers indicative of the progression of T2DM, aiming for early detection of the disease and timely clinical intervention. Integrating Mfuzz analysis with differential expression analysis, we identified 76 genes associated with the progression of T2DM, which were primarily enriched in signaling pathways such as apoptosis, p53 signaling, and necroptosis. Subsequently, using various analytical methods, including machine learning, we further narrowed down the hub genes to STK17A and CCT5. Based on the hub genes, we calculated the risk score for samples and interestingly found that the score correlated with multiple programmed cell death (PCD) pathways. Animal experiments revealed that the diabetes model exhibited higher levels of MDA and LDH, with lower expression of SOD, accompanied by islet cell apoptosis. In conclusion, our study suggests that during the progression of diabetes, STK17A and CCT5 may contribute to the advancement of the disease by regulating oxidative stress, programmed cell death pathways, and critical signaling pathways such as p53 and MAPK, thereby promoting the death of islet cells. This provides substantial evidence in support of further disease prevention and treatment strategies.

Abstract The outcrop fire area in Rujigou Coal Mine in Ningxia, China has been burning continuously for over 100 years. This not only results in wastage of resources but also poses significant damage to the ecological environment. Previous research on open fire detection has mainly focused on coalfield fire areas, using single method such as infrared remote sensing or surface temperature measurement, magnetic method, electrical method, radon measurement and mercurimetry. However, the outcrop fire area has migrated to deeper parts over the years, conventional single fire zone detection methods are not capable of accurately detecting the extent of the fire zone, inversion interpretation is faced with the problem of many solutions. In fire management, current research focuses on the development of new materials, such as fly ash gel, sodium silicate gel, etc., However, it is often difficult to quickly extinguish outcrop fire areas with a single technique. Considering this status quo, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) infrared thermal imaging was employed to initially detect the scope of the outcrop fire area, and then both the spontaneous potential and directional drilling methods were adopted for further scope detection in pursuit of more accurate results. In addition, an applicable fire prevention and extinguishing system was constructed, in which three-phase foam was injected for the purpose of absorbing heat and cooling. Furthermore, the composite colloid was used to plug air leakage channels, and loess was backfilled to avoid re-combustion. The comprehensive detection and control technologies proposed in this study can be applied to eliminating the outcrop fire area and protecting the environment. This study can provide guidance and reference for the treatment of other outcrop fire areas.

Abstract Shear failure often occurs in engineering rock mass (such as inclined pillar) in gently inclined strata. Prediction and characterization the orientation of shear failure plane is the foundation of rock mass engineering reinforcement. In this paper, sandstone samples are used to perform uniaxial and shear tests to obtain the basic mechanical parameters. Then, by employing the numerical method, the combined compression–shear loading tests were carried out for inclined specimens varied from 0° to 25° at an interval of 5°, to obtain the dip effect on the orientation of rock failure plane. The results show that the failure plane of rock changes with the change of dip angle of rock sample. Based on the Mohr–Coulomb criterion, the ultimate stress state of rock was characterized under combined compression–shear loading. The ultimate strength of rock is equal to the ratio of the stress circle radius of rock under combined compression–shear condition to the stress circle radius of rock under uniaxial compression condition, multiplied by the uniaxial compressive strength. The fracture angle of rock was defined under combined compression–shear loading. A theoretical model was developed for predicting the fracture angle. The developed model could be characterized by internal friction angle, dip angle of rock sample and Poisson's ratio. Finally, the numerical results of the fracture angle were analyzed, which are consistent with the predicted results of the model. The investigation shows that the rock fracture angle has a dip effect, which decreases with the increase of the inclination angle of the sample. The research results provide a new means to identify the potential failure plane of engineering rock mass, and lay a theoretical foundation for calculating the orientation of rock fracture plane.

Abstract With the aging of the population, sarcopenia has become more common. Studies have shown a broad association between liver disease and sarcopenia. However, this link remains unclear. Our study explored the link between NAFLD and sarcopenia and predicting the pathogenesis. To begin, we investigated the causal relationship and genetic correlation between them using MR and LDSC. Second, each GWAS was annotated by MAGMA. The annotated genes were analyzed for pleiotropy using the PLACO approach. Finally, functional analysis was conducted on the identified pleiotropic genes. We observed a significant genetic correlation between NAFLD and sarcopenia. Subsequently, we conducted gene-level pleiotropy analysis using PLACO and identified a total of 153 genes with pleiotropic effects. Functional analysis revealed enrichment of these genes in various tissues, including pancreas, liver, heart, blood, brain, and muscle, with involvement in cellular regulation, intracellular function, and antigen response. Moreover, our MR analysis provided evidence of a causal relationship between NAFLD and sarcopenia. Our study has discovered the genetic and causal relationships between NAFLD and sarcopenia, providing further insights into their pathophysiological mechanisms. The identification of pleiotropic genes also offers potential targets for future drug therapies aimed at controlling or treating NAFLD and sarcopenia.

Abstract This was a single-centre retrospective study. Minimally invasive techniques for transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF), oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF), and percutaneous endoscopic transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (Endo-TLIF) have been extensively used for lumbar degenerative diseases. The present study analyses the short-term and mid-term clinical effects of the above three minimally invasive techniques on L4/L5 degenerative spondylolisthesis. In this retrospective study, 98 patients with L4/L5 degenerative spondylolisthesis received MIS-TLIF, 107 received OLIF, and 114 received Endo-TLIF. All patients were followed up for at least one year. We compared patient data, including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), Oswestry disability index (ODI), visual analogue scale of low back pain (VAS-B), visual analogue scale of leg pain (VAS-L), surgical time, blood loss, drainage volume, hospital stay, complications, and neurological status. Moreover, we performed imaging evaluations, including lumbar lordosis angle (LLA), disc height (DH) and intervertebral fusion status. No significant differences were noted in age, sex, BMI, preoperative ODI, preoperative VAS-B, preoperative VAS-L, preoperative LLA, or preoperative DH. Abstract In 2023, the development of El Niño is poised to drive a global upsurge in surface air temperatures (SAT), potentially resulting in unprecedented warming worldwide. Nevertheless, the regional patterns of SAT anomalies remain diverse, obscuring where historical warming records may be surpassed in the forthcoming year. Our study underscores the significant influence of El Niño and the persistence of climate signals on the inter-annual variability of regional SAT, both in amplitude and spatial distribution. The likelihood of global mean SAT exceeding historical records, calculated from July 2023 to June 2024, is estimated at 90%, contingent upon annual-mean sea surface temperature anomalies in the eastern equatorial Pacific exceeding 0.6 °C. Regions particularly susceptible to recording record-high SAT include coastal and adjacent areas in Asia such as the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea, as well as Alaska, the Caribbean Sea, and the Amazon. This impending warmth heightens the risk of year-round marine heatwaves and escalates the threat of wildfires and other negative consequences in Alaska and the Amazon basin, necessitating strategic mitigation measures to minimize potential worst-case impacts.

Abstract The increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance in Cutibacterium acnes (C. acnes) requires the search for alternative therapeutic strategies. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) offer a promising avenue for the development of new treatments targeting C. acnes. In this study, to design peptides with the specific inhibitory activity against C. acnes, we employed a deep learning pipeline with generators and classifiers, using transfer learning and pretrained protein embeddings, trained on publicly available data. To enhance the training data specific to C. acnes inhibition, we constructed a phylogenetic tree. A panel of 42 novel generated linear peptides was then synthesized and experimentally evaluated for their antimicrobial selectivity and activity. Five of them demonstrated their high potency and selectivity against C. acnes with MIC of 2–4 µg/mL. Our findings highlight the potential of these designed peptides as promising candidates for anti-acne therapeutics and demonstrate the power of computational approaches for the rational design of targeted antimicrobial peptides.

Abstract The study aimed to provide physician modified fenestration (PMF) on a single-branched stent for the aortic arch (Castor) to protect the isolated left vertebral artery (ILVA) during thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). Patients who underwent TEVAR involving ILVA reconstruction through PMF performing on the Castor branched stent were included in a retrospective, multi-centre study from June 2018 to December 2022. In these patients, all proximal landing zones of "Castor" were positioned in Ishimaru zone 2a. A total of twenty-five patients met the inclusion criteria and the achievement rate showed 25/25 (100%) success in them. The twenty-five patients had a median follow-up length of 28.5 ± 14.6 months. One patient (4.0%) suffered from postoperative ischemic stroke before discharge. One patient (4.0%) died from a hemodialysis-related brain hemorrhage before discharge on the 29th day after the procedure. One patient died of advanced liver cancer in the 33th month after discharge. Aortic rupture, stroke or spinal cord injury did not occur throughout the follow-up period after discharge. Two patients (8.0%) experienced endoleak at the fenestration, however, resulting in only one’s necessity for reintervention. Notably, the procedure effectively maintained ILVAs patency for all patients during follow up. According to our preliminary findings, performing a TEVAR under local anaesthesia using PMF on a Castor branched stent for ILVA preservation appeared practical, secure, and effective.

Abstract Mitochondrial metabolism has been shown to play a key role in immune cell survival and function, but mitochondrial creatine kinase 2 (CKMT2) has been relatively little studied about tumor immunity. We aimed to explore the prognostic value of CKMT2 in 33 cancer types and investigate its potential immune function. We used a range of bioinformatics approaches to explore the potential carcinogenic role of CKMT2 in multiple cancers. CKMT2 was lowly expressed in 14 tumor tissues and highly expressed in 4 tumor tissues. Immunohistochemical assays showed overexpression of CKMT2 in colon cancer and rectal cancer. CKMT2 overexpression was positively correlated with the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma and prostate cancer. CKMT2 overexpression is mainly enriched in the adaptive immune system and immune regulatory pathways of immunoglobulins. Seven cancers were positively correlated with low CKMT2 expression in tumor microenvironment analysis. Among the five cancers, low expression of CKMT2 resulted in better immunotherapy treatment outcomes. There was a strong correlation between CKMT2 and most immune-related genes in specific cancer types. CKMT2 plays an important role in tumorigenesis and cancer immunity and can be used as a prognostic biomarker and potential target for cancer immunotherapy.

Abstract Male infertility is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). Dapagliflozin is widely used to manage the type II DM. This study aimed to assess the dapagliflozin’s effects on the spermatogenesis by administering either dapagliflozin (Dapa) or vehicle (db) to male db/db mice, and using littermate male db/m mice as the control (Con). We further performed the integrative analyses of the cecal shotgun metagenomics, cecal/plasmatic/testicular metabolomics, and testicular proteomics. We found that dapagliflozin treatment significantly alleviated the diabetes-induced spermatogenic dysfunction by improving sperm quality, including the sperm concentration and sperm motility. The overall microbial composition was reshaped in Dapa mice and 13 species (such as Lachnospiraceae bacterium 3–1) were regarded as potential beneficial bacteria. Metabolites exhibited modified profiles, in which adenosine, cAMP, and 2′-deoxyinosine being notably altered in the cecum, plasma, and testis, respectively. Testicular protein expression patterns were similar between the Dapa and Con mice. In vivo results indicated that when compared with db group, dapagliflozin treatment alleviated apoptosis and oxidative stress in testis tissues by down-regulating 2′-deoxyinosine. This was further validated by in vitro experiments using GC-2 cells. Our findings support the potential use of dapagliflozin to prevent the diabetes-induced impaired sperm quality and to treat diabetic male infertility.

Abstract To explore the relationship between miR-373 and the occurrence and development of colorectal cancer. Additionally, it aims to predict the potential cellular signaling pathways and regulatory mechanisms in which miR-373 may be involved and provides a theoretical basis and experimental evidence for the clinical application of miR-373 as a potential biomarker, molecular target, and prognostic indicator in colorectal cancer. Real-time quantitative PCR is used to analyze the expression of miR-373 in human colorectal cancer cell lines and normal human colonic epithelial cells. Further validation of the differential expression of miR-373 in colorectal cancer cell lines is being performed. Biological functions such as cell proliferation, invasion and apoptosis are being detected by MTT, CCK-8, transwell, cell cycle analysis, and flow cytometry experiments to verify the changes in the biological behavior of colon cancer cells after overexpression and interference of miR-373 in SW-480 cells and to explore the effects of miR-373 on cell proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis in colon cancer cells. Proteomic analysis is being conducted on proteins extracted from miR-373 overexpressing SW480 cells, and mass spectrometry is used for protein identification. GO, KEGG, and enrichment analysis are being employed to analyze the significantly differentially expressed proteins. The expression levels of pathway-related proteins are being verified using Western blot. Abstract The loss of progesterone receptor (PR) often predicts worse biological behavior and prognosis in estrogen receptor-positive (ER +) breast cancer. However, the impact of PR status on inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) has not been studied. Therefore, the purpose of our study was to investigate the influence of PR on IBC. Patients with ER+ and HER2-negative IBC were selected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results database. Pearson’s χ2 test was used to compare the clinicopathological characteristics between patients with estrogen receptor-positive/progesterone receptor-positive (ER+/PR +) and patients with estrogen receptor-positive/progesterone receptor-negative (ER+/PR−). Abstract Elderly hypertensive patients diagnosed with transient ischemic attack (TIA) are at a heightened risk for developing acute ischemic stroke (AIS). This underscores the critical need for effective risk prediction and identification of predictive factors. In our study, we utilized patient data from peripheral blood tests and clinical profiles within hospital information systems. These patients were followed for a three-year period to document incident AIS. Our cohort of 11,056 individuals was randomly divided into training, validation, and testing sets in a 5:2:3 ratio. We developed an XGBoost model, developed using selected indicators, provides an effective and non-invasive method for predicting the risk of AIS in elderly hypertensive patients diagnosed with TIA. Impressively, this model achieved a balanced accuracy of 0.9022, a recall of 0.8688, and a PR-AUC of 0.9315. Notably, our model effectively encapsulates essential data variations involving mixed nonlinear interactions, providing competitive performance against more complex models that incorporate a wider range of variables. Further, we conducted an in-depth analysis of the importance and sensitivity of each selected indicator and their interactions. This research equips clinicians with the necessary tools for more precise identification of high-risk individuals, thereby paving the way for more effective stroke prevention and management strategies.

Abstract In the field of data analysis, it is often faced with a large number of missing values, especially in metabolomics data, this problem is more prominent. Data imputation is a common method to deal with missing metabolomics data, while traditional data imputation methods usually ignore the differences in missing types, and thus the results of data imputation are not satisfactory. In order to discriminate the missing types of metabolomics data, a missing data classification model (PX-MDC) based on particle swarm algorithm and XGBoost is proposed in this paper. First, the missing values in a given missing data set are obtained by panning the missing values to obtain the largest subset of complete data, and then the particle swarm algorithm is used to search for the concentration threshold of missing data and the proportion of low concentration deletions as a percentage of overall deletions. Next, the missing data are simulated based on the search results. Finally, the training data are trained using the XGBoost model using the feature set proposed in this paper in order to build a classifier for the missing data. The experimental results show that the particle swarm algorithm is able to match the traditional enumeration method in terms of accuracy and significantly reduce the search time in concentration threshold search. Compared with the current mainstream methods, the PX-MDC model designed in this paper exhibits higher accuracy and is able to distinguish different deletion types for the same metabolite. This study is expected to make an important breakthrough in metabolomics data imputation and provide strong support for research in related fields.

Abstract An enzyme-free sandwich amperometric immunosensor based on bimetallic Pt/Ag nanoparticle (Pt/AgNPs)-functionalized chitosan (Chi)-modified multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as dual signal amplifiers and Chi-modified MWCNTs (MWCNTs-Chi) as substrate materials was developed for ultrasensitive detection of fowl adenovirus group I (FAdV-I). MWCNTs have a large specific surface area, and many accessible active sites were formed after modification with Chi. Hence, MWCNTs-Chi, as a substrate material for modifying glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs), could immobilize more antibodies (fowl adenovirus group I-monoclonal antibody, FAdV-I/MAb). Multiple Pt/AgNPs were attached to the surface of MWCNTs-Chi to generate MWCNTs-Chi-Pt/AgNPs with high catalytic ability for the reaction of H2O2 and modified active sites for fowl adenovirus group I-polyclonal antibody (FAdV-I/PAb) binding. Amperometric i–t measurements were employed to characterize the recognizability of FAdV-I. Under optimal conditions, and the developed immunosensor exhibited a wide linear range (100.93 EID50 mL−1 to 103.43 EID50 mL−1), a low detection limit (100.67 EID50 mL−1) and good selectivity, reproducibility and stability. This immunosensor can be used in clinical sample detection.

Abstract Previous observational studies have suggested an association between tryptophan (TRP)–kynurenine (KYN) pathway and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, whether there is a causal relationship among them remains unclear. Therefore, a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study was conducted to explore the potential causal effects of crucial metabolites in TRP–KYN pathway on IBD and its subtypes. Using summary data from genome-wide association studies, a two-sample MR was employed to evaluate the genetic associations between TRP and KYN as exposures and IBD as an outcome. The inverse variance weighted method was used as the primary MR analysis, with MR-Egger, weighted mode, simple mode, and weighted median methods as complementary analyses. The odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were determined for TRP–IBD (OR 0.739, 95% CI [0.697; 0.783]), TRP–UC (OR 0.875, 95% CI [0.814; 0.942]), TRP–CD (OR 0.685, 95% CI [0.613; 0.765]), KYN–IBD (OR 4.406, 95% CI [2.247; 8.641]), KYN–UC (OR 2.578, 95% CI [1.368; 4.858], and KYN–CD (OR 13.516, 95% CI [4.919; 37.134]). Collectively, the MR analysis demonstrated a significant protective association between TRP and IBD, whereas KYN was identified as a risk factor for IBD.

Abstract Deafness is a common sensory disorder. In China, approximately 70% of hereditary deafness originates from four common deafness-causing genes: GJB2, SLC26A4, GJB3, and MT-RNR1. A single-tube rapid detection method based on 2D-PCR technology was established for nine mutation sites in the aforementioned genes, and Sanger sequencing was used to verify its reliability and accuracy. The frequency of hotspot mutations in deafness genes was analysed in 116 deaf students. 2D-PCR identified 27 genotypes of nine loci according to the melting curve of the FAM, HEX, and Alexa568 fluorescence channels. Of the 116 deaf patients, 12.9% (15/116) carried SLC26A4 mutations, including c.919-2A > G and c.2168A > G (allele frequencies, 7.3% and 2.2%, respectively). The positivity rate (29.3%; 34/116) was highest for GJB2 (allele frequency, 15.9% for c.235delC, 6.0% for c.299_300delAT, and 2.6% for c.176-191del16). Sanger sequencing confirmed the consistency of results between the detection methods based on 2D-PCR and DNA sequencing. Common pathogenic mutations in patients with non-syndromic deafness in Changzhou were concentrated in GJB2 (c.235delC, c.299_300delAT, and c.176-191del16) and SLC26A4 (c.919-2A > G and c.2168 A > G). 2D-PCR is an effective method for accurately and rapidly identifying deafness-related genotypes using a single-tube reaction, and is superior to DNA sequencing, which has a high cost and long cycle.

Abstract With the development of assisted reproductive technology, the number of twin pregnancies is increasing year by year. Given the increased risk of pregnancy complications associated with twin pregnancies, and the fact that these babies are rare and difficult to obtain through assisted reproductive technology, clinicians urgently require finding effective and safe drugs to improve pregnancy outcomes. Low-dose aspirin can not only promote placental blood supply, but also effectively anti-inflammatory. Whether Low-dose aspirin can effectively reduce the risk of pregnancy complications in this special group needs to be clarified. We therefore retrospectively analyzed 665 twin pregnancies from assisted reproduction technology, grouped according to aspirin use, and followed pregnancy outcomes to assess bleeding risk. Low-dose aspirin was found to be effective in preventing preeclampsia without a significant risk of bleeding. However, aspirin does not prevent specific complication in twin pregnancies and seems to have a better preventive effect only when the mother is under 30, which should alarm clinicians should not blindly using aspirin in this particular group.

Abstract Acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) are proton-gated cation channels widely expressed in the nervous system. ASIC gating is modulated by divalent cations as well as small molecules; however, the molecular determinants of gating modulation by divalent cations are not well understood. Previously, we identified two small molecules that bind to ASIC1a at a novel site in the acidic pocket and modulate ASIC1 gating in a manner broadly resembling divalent cations, raising the possibility that these small molecules may help to illuminate the molecular determinants of gating modulation by divalent cations. Here, we examined how these two groups of modulators might interact as well as mutational effects on ASIC1a gating and its modulation by divalent cations. Our results indicate that binding of divalent cations to an acidic pocket site plays a key role in gating modulation of the channel.

Abstract Few research discuss whether the body measurement indexs of obesity in general populations is applicable to patients with type 2 diabetes. We explore the optimal cutoffs of visceral fat area (VFA) and subcutaneous fat area (SFA) in the diagnosis of central obesity and the cutoffs of corresponding waist circumference (WC) and body mass index (BMI) in patients with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). Cross-sectional cohort study. 1057 patients with T2D (550 males and 507 females) aged 18 or above that satisfied the criteria were included. The definition and diagnostic criteria of Metabolic syndrome (Mets) were analyzed according to the 2020 Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS) Guideline. The VFA and SFA were measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The optimal VFA and SFA cutoffs and corresponding WC and BMI when two or more nonadipose components of MetS (without central obesity) were met were analyzed by ROC curve. Among all of the T2D patients, the optimal VFA cutoff for identifying two or more nonadipose components of MetS was 73.30 cm2 for females and 69.20 cm2 for males, while the optimal SFA cutoff was 186.70 cm2 for females and 123.30 cm2 for males. The ROC area under curve (AUC) of VFA for identifying two or more nonadipose components of MetS was higher than that of SFA (Female: 0.65 vs. 0.58, P = 0.01). The VFA cutoff of newly diagnosed T2D patients (females = 86.10 cm2, males = 69.00 cm2) was higher than that of non-newly diagnosed T2D patients (females = 73.30 cm2, males = 65.40 cm2). A stratification analysis of gender and whether newly diagnosed with T2D or not showed that the WCs corresponding to VFA were 85.00 cm and BMI was about 24.00 kg/m2. VFA measured by BIA can be a non-invasive method to detect central obesity in patients with T2D, the corresponding WC were 85.00 cm and BMI was 24.00 kg/m2.

Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the causal effects of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and erectile dysfunction (ED) using Mendelian randomization (MR). All datasets were obtained from the public genome-wide association study database. In the exposure group, 12,882 IBD patients and 21,770 controls were included. A total of 1154 ED patients and 94,024 controls were included in the outcome group. Two-sample MR was conducted to estimate the causal effect of IBD on ED. Furthermore, Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) were exposure factors in subgroup analyses. Weighted median, MR-egger, Inverse-variant weighted (IVW), weighted mode, and simple mode methods were used in MR analysis. Horizontal pleiotropy test, heterogeneity test, and leave-one-out method were utilized to evaluate the sensitivity and stability of results. After analysis, 62, 52, and 36 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that IBD-ED, CD-ED, and UC-ED were included, respectively. The incidence of ED was increased by IBD (IVW: OR = 1.110, 95% CI = 1.017–1.211, P = 0.019; P-heterogeneity > 0.05) and, in addition, ED was affected by CD (IVW: OR = 1.085, 95% CI = 1.015–1.160, P = 0.016; P-heterogeneity > 0.05). However, there was no causal effect of UC on ED (IVW: OR = 1.018, 95% CI = 0.917–1.129, P = 0.743; P-heterogeneity 0.05). These results indicate that IBD and CD can cause ED; However, UC did not cause ED. Additional research was required to determine causality and potential mechanisms further.

Abstract The study specifically focused on the Hongliulin mining area, where a total of 40 soil samples were meticulously collected and analyzed from within a 1000 m radius extending from the tailings dam. The findings revealed that soil pH within the 0–1000 m range generally leaned towards the alkaline side. In terms of soil nutrient content, encompassing factors such as soil organic matter (SOM), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total potassium (TK), alkali nitrogen (AK), available phosphorus (AP), and quick-acting potassium (AK), the variations fell within the following ranges: 2.23–13.58 g/kg, 0.12–0.73 g/kg, 0.18–1.15 g/kg, 9.54–35.82 g/kg, 2.89–6.76 mg/kg, 3.45–11.25 mg/kg, and 5.86–130.9 mg/kg. Collectively, these values indicate relatively low levels of soil nutrients. Within the 0–500 m range of soil samples, the average concentrations of Cd, Hg, Pb, and As were 0.778, 0.198, 24.87, and 17.92 mg/kg, respectively. These concentrations exceeded the established soil background values of Shaanxi Province and emerged as the primary pollutants in the study area. Within this same range, the mean values of eight toxic metals (Pi) were ranked in the following descending order: 1.726 (Hg), 1.400 (As), 1.129 (Cr), 1.109 (Pb), 0.623 (Zn), 0.536 (Cd), 0.309 (Cu), and 0.289 (Ni). With the exception of Hg, As, Cr, and Pb, which exhibited slight pollution, the other toxic metals were found to be within acceptable pollution limits for this sampling range, in line with the results obtained using the geo-accumulation index method. The average potential ecological risk index for the eight toxic metals in the study area stood at 185.0, indicating a moderate overall pollution level. When assessing individual elements, the proportions of ecological risk attributed to Hg, As, Pb, and Cd were 34.57%, 27.44%, 25.11%, and 23.11%, respectively. This suggests that the primary potential ecological risk elements in the study area are Hg and As, followed by Cd and Pb. Notably, toxic metals Hg and Pb, as well as As and Pb, exhibited significant positive correlations within the sampling area, suggesting a common source. An analysis of the relationship between soil physicochemical properties and toxic metals indicated that soil pH, SOM, TN, and TP were closely linked to toxic metal concentrations. The toxic metal elements in the research area's soil exhibit moderate variability (0.16 0.36). Within the range of 0–200 m, the CV values for Cd and Hg exceed 1, indicating a high level of variability. The coefficient of variation for SOM, TP, AP, AK and TK is relatively high with the of 2.93, 2.36, 2.36, 21.01, 7.54. The soil in the sampling area has undergone significant disturbances due to human activities, resulting in toxic metal pollution and nutrient deficiencies.

Abstract The problem of heavy metal pollution in soil has become a global environmental problem, and it is very important to predict and manage the heavy metals in the environmental soil in a timely manner. The changes in heavy metal content in soil have characteristics such as nonlinearity and large delay, making it difficult to predict heavy metals in soil using traditional methods. Traditional prediction methods are complex and cumbersome, which can lead to longer treatment time and easy secondary pollution. This article analyzed the Back Propagation neural network (BPNN) in artificial neural networks (ANN) and applied it to the prediction of heavy metals in environmental soils. BPNN has good nonlinear function approximation ability, so it can be well applied to complex problems such as soil heavy metal prediction. The methods of treating soil heavy metals include physical repair method, chemical repair method, microbial repair method, plant repair method, plant microbial combined repair method and so on. The use of BPNN can predict heavy metals in environmental soils through adaptive dynamic learning. However, the training time of the BPNN is relatively long and the convergence speed is relatively slow. Therefore, additional momentum terms were added to adjust the weights and thresholds of the network to improve the BPNN. In the experiment, the prediction performance of the improved BPNN was compared before and after the improvement. This article took 50 monitoring data of heavy metals in the same soil in a certain region in 2021 as sample data and predicted the content of heavy metals in the soil using improved and improved BPNN. Due to time constraints, this article only conducted experimental analysis on heavy metals such as lead and cadmium. In the first experiment, when the soil sample data was 50, the prediction accuracy of the BPNN for cadmium before and after improvement was 75.95% and 89.56%, respectively. In the second experiment, when the soil sample data was 50, the prediction accuracy of the BPNN for cadmium before and after improvement was 77.99% and 89.85%, respectively. The improved BPNN has good prediction accuracy and can effectively predict the status of heavy metals in soil. The analysis in this article can provide scientific basis for the comprehensive prevention and control of heavy metals in regional soil, and also provide reference for the development of pollution-free agriculture and ensuring food safety.

Abstract The association between anemia and outcomes in glioblastoma patients is unclear. We analyzed data from 1346 histologically confirmed adult glioblastoma patients in the TriNetX Research Network. Median hemoglobin and hematocrit levels were quantified for 6 months following diagnosis and used to classify patients as anemic or non-anemic. Associations of anemia and iron supplementation of anemic patients with median overall survival (median-OS) were then studied. Among 1346 glioblastoma patients, 35.9% of male and 40.5% of female patients were classified as anemic using hemoglobin-based WHO guidelines. Among males, anemia was associated with reduced median-OS compared to matched non-anemic males using hemoglobin (HR 1.24; 95% CI 1.00–1.53) or hematocrit-based cutoffs (HR 1.28; 95% CI 1.03–1.59). Among females, anemia was not associated with median-OS using hemoglobin (HR 1.00; 95% CI 0.78–1.27) or hematocrit-based cutoffs (HR: 1.10; 95% CI 0.85–1.41). Iron supplementation of anemic females trended toward increased median-OS (HR 0.61; 95% CI 0.32–1.19) although failing to reach statistical significance whereas no significant association was found in anemic males (HR 0.85; 95% CI 0.41–1.75). Functional transferrin-binding assays confirmed sexually dimorphic binding in resected patient samples indicating underlying differences in iron biology. Anemia among glioblastoma patients exhibits a sex-specific association with survival.
