Abstract Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) is one of the leading causes of neonatal mortality in low-income countries. It is caused by a lack of surface-active substances in the lungs, and the maternal inflammatory response plays an important role in the formation of surface-active substances in the fetal lungs. We aimed to investigate the correlation between maternal prenatal systemic inflammatory indices and respiratory distress syndrome in preterm neonates. This is a retrospective case–control study that collected data from all patients who delivered between 28 and 36 weeks of gestation at Longhua District People's Hospital in Shenzhen City and whose infants were admitted to the neonatal unit, newborns with respiratory distress syndrome were in the experimental group (NRDS group), and newborns without NRDS were in the control group (non-NRDS group). To minimize the effect of confounders on the results, propensity score matching was performed on baseline characteristics. Totally, 524 patients were included (93 in the NRDS group and 431 in the non-NRDS group), and 71 matched pairs (142 patients). Abstract Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a common secondary kidney disease. Immune and inflammatory responses play an influential role in the development of DN. This study aims to explore the role and mechanisms of immune- and inflammatory-related factors in DN. Participants from the NHANES 2013–2018 were included to evaluate the association between the SII and DN. Considering the skewed distribution of SII, log SII was used for subsequent analysis. Then, the DEGs were extracted from the GSE96804 dataset by the “limma” package of R, which were further screened out genes in the key module based on WGCNA. The intersection genes between DEGs and key module genes were the key genes for the following mechanism exploration. Abstract HRB500E rebar is a low-alloy high-strength steel with excellent mechanical properties and good plasticity but suffers from deficient corrosion resistance. This can be solved by adding trace elements, including rare earth elements. Herein, the corrosion-resistant behavior of rebar was evaluated by weightlessness testing and electrochemical measurements, and the effects of Ce on the structural evolution of the corrosion product layer were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Electron Probe X-ray Micro-Analyzer (EPMA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results showed that adding Ce to the rebar improved the densification of the reinforcing surface corrosion products, as well as reduced the corrosion rate of the experimental rebar. Compared to C0 sample without Ce, the rebar sample containing 0.044 wt.% Ce displayed increased Ecorr by 0.051 V, decreased Icorr by 15.573 mA cm−2, enhanced Rc of the corrosion product layer by 112.71 Ω cm2, incremented α-FeOOH content in the corrosion product layer, and boosted ratio of α/γ* in the corrosion product layer by 10.11%. Furthermore, the oxide (CeO2) formed by Ce in the corrosion layer of the rebar bar surface existed in the rust layer, resulting in a stable corrosion product layer with improved blocking ability of the corrosive medium. Overall, the addition of Ce at certain ratios looks promising to produce HRB500E rebar with excellent corrosion resistance and extended service life under harsh conditions.

Abstract Yuxi, located in China’s central plateau of Yunnan, is grappling with ecological and environmental challenges as it continues to develop its economy. While ecological quality assessment serves as the foundation for ecological protection, it is pivotal to have reliable and long-term methods for assessing the ecological status to support informed decision-making in ecological protection. Reliable and long-term methods for assessing ecological status in order to facilitate informed decision-making in ecological protection are applied. This study utilized Landsat data to reconstruct four indices (greenness, wetness, dryness, and heat) during the vegetation growth in Yuxi from 2000 to 2020 that employs Harmonic Analysis of Time Series (HANTS) method. Subsequently, the annual Remote Sensing Ecological Index (RSEI) was computed by using the reconstructed indices to evaluate ecological quality in Yuxi. Additionally, spatiotemporal patterns and determinants of Yuxi’s ecological quality are unveiled through Sen’s slope estimator and Mann–Kendall test (Sen + MK) trend analysis, spatial auto-correlation analysis, and geographical detectors applied to year-by-year RSEI data. The findings in the paper indicate that the accuracy of the RSEI is significantly influenced by the vegetation season, suggesting that constructing the RSEI model with data from the vegetation growth season is crucial. Moreover, the HANTS optimization method effectively enhances the ecological indices used in the RSEI model, leading to smoother and more continuous filling of missing data. The difference between the reconstructed RSEI and the original RSEI falls within the range of − 0.15 to 0.15. Yuxi has an average RSEI of 0.54 to emphasis a moderate level of comprehensive ecological quality. Compared with river valley plains, the ecological quality of mountainous areas is higher, and the ecological quality of Yuxi presents a distinct center-edge pattern. From 2000 to 2020, Yuxi’s ecological quality exhibited fluctuations, with a slight overall improvement. Land use patterns, particularly in forestry land and impervious surfaces, are identified as the main drivers of these changes. The research offers valuable insights for scientific decision-making related to sustainable development and ecological protection.

Abstract To reduce the local scour around the spur dike, the U-shaped collar is proposed in this study. The influence of the collar's length, width, and porosity on the local scour reduction in clear water is studied by model tests and numerical simulations. Experimental studies show that the collar has a significant effect on reducing the local scour. The location of the maximum scour depth of the spur dike moves downstream. The width of the collar has the greatest impact on the reduction effect among the three selected factors, followed by the porosity and the length. Local scour reduction efficiency of the collar can reach 56.9%. Based on the regression analysis of the range and variety, a formula for predicting the reduction effect around the spur dike is put forward, and the deviation between the values by formula and that in experiments are within ± 4%. The characteristics of the flow field around the spur dike under constant conditions with a collar are studied via numerical simulation. The numerical simulation results show that compared to the case without collar, the flow velocities around the spur dike in cases with permeable collar and solid collar reduced by 45% and 25%, respectively, and the shear stresses reduced by 20% and 28.6%, respectively. The results of this study can provide a reference for local scour reduction using the solid collar or collar made of permeable materials such as gabions.

Abstract This cross-sectional study aimed to explore the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) toward sleep disorders and sleep hygiene among perimenopausal women, who were enrolled in Dezhou region of Shandong Province between July and September 2023. A total of 720 valid questionnaires were collected (mean age: 51.28 ± 4.32 years old), and 344 (47.78%) reported experiencing insomnia. The mean scores for knowledge, attitude, practice, and Dysfunctional Beliefs and Attitudes about Sleep (DBAS) were 15.73 ± 7.60 (possible range: 0–36), 29.35 ± 3.15 (possible range: 10–50), 28.54 ± 4.03 (possible range: 10–50), and 6.79 ± 1.90 (possible range: 0–10), respectively. Abstract DNA damage response (DDR) pathways are responsible for repairing endogenous or exogenous DNA damage to maintain the stability of the cellular genome, including homologous recombination repair (HRR) pathway, mismatch repair (MMR) pathway, etc. In ovarian cancer, current studies are focused on HRR genes, especially BRCA1/2, and the results show regional and population differences. To characterize germline mutations in DDR genes in ovarian cancer in Southwest China, 432 unselected ovarian cancer patients underwent multi-gene panel testing from October 2016 to October 2020. Overall, deleterious germline mutations in DDR genes were detected in 346 patients (80.1%), and in BRCA1/2 were detected in 126 patients (29.2%). The prevalence of deleterious germline mutations in BRCA2 is higher than in other studies (patients are mainly from Eastern China), and so is the mismatch repair genes. We identified three novel BRCA1/2 mutations, two of which probably deleterious (BRCA1 p.K1622* and BRCA2 p.L2987P). Furthermore, we pointed out that deleterious mutations of FNACD2 and RECQL4 are potential ovarian cancer susceptibility genes and may predispose carriers to ovarian cancer. In conclusion, our study highlights the necessity of comprehensive germline mutation detection of DNA damage response genes in ovarian cancer patients, which is conducive to patient management and genetic counseling.

Abstract To improve the efficiency of frozen soil excavation, the new shaft tunneling machine was developed. The new shaft tunneling machine exerts pressure on the frozen soil through the cutter under the joint action of its own gravity, the drum rotational force and the inertia force, and the frozen soil is damaged. By unique way of breaking frozen soil to improve the efficiency of frozen soil excavation, the drum rotation speed is one of the factors affecting the performance of frozen soil excavation. This article applies SolidWorks software to establish the model of cutter breaking frozen soil, takes advantage of Hyper Mesh finite element software coupled with LS-DYNA solver to acquire the regular pattern of change in the force change, frozen soil stress–strain and specific energy of cutter crushing frozen soil, etc., which analyzes the destruction of frozen soil when the drum of the new shaft tunneling machine is rotating at the speed of 25–40 rpm. Combine with field test to investigate the mechanism of cutter breaking frozen soil under the optimal drum rotation speed. The investigation results demonstrate that: when frozen soil's self-bearing capacity is lower than the force of cutter, it breaks up and detaches from the soil body, and frozen soil undergoes tensile, compressive and shear damages. For this research, it is instructive for practical engineering.

Abstract The boom-type roadheader plays a crucial role in coal mining. However, conducting the real-time monitoring of the mechanical performance and comprehensive adaptive cutting in the dynamic cutting process are challenging. To address these issues, a digital twin system that integrates the elements of “shape, performance, and control” for roadheaders is presented in this paper. The system comprises three components: physical space, service space, and twin space. The service space forms the core of the entire system. Within this space, twin models and control models are created using numerical simulation, artificial intelligence and multi-source data fusion technology. These models serve the purpose of predicting the roadheader’s mechanical performance and controlling the swing speed of the cutting arm. The physical space is built using technologies such as robot kinematics, electrical systems, hydraulic transmission, and other relevant techniques. This approach facilitates the transmission of multi-sensor data to twin models. The control model then manages the roadheader’s function based on the output signals from the control model. The twin space is constructed utilizing physical rendering engines, databases, and 3D modelling tools. This space visualizes and stores the movement, performance, and control parameters of the roadheader. The results demonstrate that the average absolute error between the measured data from the test’s three position strain gauges and the predicted data from the twin system is 10.38 MPa. Furthermore, the twin system achieves an average update interval of 0.34 s, allowing real-time stress monitoring of the structural components of the roadheader and preventing damage caused by overload. The proposed control model enables adaptive adjustment of the swing speed of the cutting arm in approximately 0.3 s. This improvement significantly enhances the adaptive cutting capabilities of roadheaders when dealing with complex coal and rock formations.

Abstract This study demonstrates the effect and DNA methylation-related mechanisms of a high-salt diet and salt memory-induced hypertension and vasculopathy. Thirty Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into a control (CON) group (n = 6) and a modeling group (n = 24). A 12% NaCl solution (1 mL/100 g) was intragastrically administered for 60 consecutive days for modeling. An increase in blood pressure up to 140 mmHg was considered successful modeling. Twelve of fifteen successfully modeled rats were randomly selected and divided into a High Salt Diet (HSD) group and a High Salt Memory (HSM) group (n = 6). Rats in HSD group were intragastrically administered a 12% NaCl solution, while rats in HSM group were administered a 3% NaCl solution twice a day for 30 days. At the end of the intervention, blood pressure and the serum levels of ET-1, NO, TNF-α and IL-1β were measured. RRBS-heavy sulfite sequencing technology was selected for DNA methylation analysis. The systolic blood pressure of rats in the HSD group and HSM group was significantly higher than that in the CON group. Compared with those in the CON group, the serum levels of ET-1 in the HSM group and the serum levels of NO in the HSD group and HSM group were significantly increased. The methylation level of the CON group was lower than that of the HSD group and the HSM group, and there was no significant difference between the HSD group and the HSM group. The methylation level of Myoz3 was downregulated in the HSD group and HSM group. The methylation level of Fgd3 were upregulated in HSD group and downregulated in the HSM group. The methylation levels of AC095693.1, Adamts3, PDGFA and PDGFRα were downregulated in the HSD group and upregulated in the HSM group. According to the GO database, the differentially methylated genes were significantly enriched in the coordination of cell function, genetic development, and RNA transcription. There were three main metabolic pathways that were enriched in the differentially expressed genes between the groups: the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, MAPK signaling pathway, and Hippo signaling pathway. Excessive salt intake may cause hypertension and vascular damage, and this damage may continue after the reduction of salt intake. Therefore, salt memory phenomenon exists, and this memory effect may be correlated with the levels of DNA methylation.

Abstract Tumor formation is closely associated with disulfidptosis, a new form of cell death induced by disulfide stress-induced. The exact mechanism of action of disulfidptosis in pancreatic cancer (PCa) is not clear. This study analyzed the impact of disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs) on the prognosis of PCa and identified clusters of DRGs, and based on this, a risk score (RS) signature was developed to assess the impact of RS on the prognosis, immune and chemotherapeutic response of PCa patients. Based on transcriptomic data and clinical information from PCa tissue and normal pancreatic tissue samples obtained from the TCGA and GTEx databases, differentially expressed and differentially surviving DRGs in PCa were identified from among 15 DRGs. Two DRGs clusters were identified by consensus clustering by merging the PCa samples in the GSE183795 dataset. Analysis of DRGs clusters about the PCa tumor microenvironment and differential analysis to obtain differential genes between the two DRG clusters. Patients were then randomized into the training and testing sets, and a prognostic prediction signature associated with disulfidptosis was constructed in the training set. Then all samples were divided into high-disulfidptosis-risk (HDR) and low-disulfidptosis-risk (LDR) subgroups based on the RS calculated from the signature. The predictive efficacy of the signature was assessed by survival analysis, nomograms, correlation analysis of clinicopathological characteristics, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. To assess differences between different risk subgroups in immune cell infiltration, expression of immune checkpoint molecules, somatic gene mutations, and effectiveness of immunotherapy and chemotherapy. The GSE57495 dataset was used as external validation, reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to detect the expression levels of DRGs. A total of 12 DRGs with differential expression and prognosis in PCa were identified, based on which a risk-prognosis signature containing five differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was developed. The signature was a good predictor and an independent risk factor. The nomogram and calibration curve shows the signature's excellent clinical applicability. Functional enrichment analysis showed that RS was associated with tumor and immune-related pathways. RS was strongly associated with the tumor microenvironment, and analysis of response to immunotherapy and chemotherapy suggests that the signature can be used to assess the sensitivity of treatments. External validation further demonstrated the model's efficacy in predicting the prognosis of PCa patients, with RT-qPCR and immunohistochemical maps visualizing the expression of each gene in PCa cell lines and the tissue. Our study is the first to apply the subtyping model of disulfidptosis to PCa and construct a signature based on the disulfidptosis subtype, which can provide an accurate assessment of prognosis, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy response in PCa patients, providing new targets and directions for the prognosis and treatment of PCa.

Abstract This study compared the diagnostic efficiency of benign and malignant breast nodules using ultrasonographic characteristics coupled with several machine-learning models, including logistic regression (Logistics), partial least squares discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), linear support vector machine (Linear SVM), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), artificial neural network (ANN) and random forest (RF). The clinical information and ultrasonographic characteristics of 926 female patients undergoing breast nodule surgery were collected and their relationships were analyzed using Pearson's correlation. The stepwise regression method was used for variable selection and the Monte Carlo cross-validation method was used to randomly divide these nodule cases into training and prediction sets. Our results showed that six independent variables could be used for building models, including age, background echotexture, shape, calcification, resistance index, and axillary lymph node. In the prediction set, Linear SVM had the highest diagnosis rate of benign nodules (0.881), and Logistics, ANN and LDA had the highest diagnosis rate of malignant nodules (0.910~0.912). The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of Linear SVM was the highest (0.890), followed by ANN (0.883), LDA (0.880), Logistics (0.878), RF (0.874), PLS-DA (0.866), and KNN (0.855), all of which were better than that of individual variances. On the whole, the diagnostic efficacy of Linear SVM was better than other methods.

Abstract Based on the literature on the factors influencing port competitiveness, this paper evaluates the competitiveness of Chinese ports along the Belt and Road based on Porter’s diamond model. The evaluation system includes four primary indicators, including port infrastructure, port operation scale, port hinterland economic level and port development potential, and 13 secondary indicators. Then, based on the entropy-TOPSIS method, an evaluation model of port competitiveness is constructed. Finally, 15 seaports along China’s “Belt and Road” are used to evaluate competitiveness, and a comprehensive ranking of port competitiveness is obtained. The advantages and shortcomings of each port are pointed out according to the evaluation results to provide a reference for the long-term development of the competitiveness of ports along the “Belt and Road” in China.

Abstract Machine learning (ML) has been extensively involved in assistant disease diagnosis and prediction systems to emancipate the serious dependence on medical resources and improve healthcare quality. Moreover, with the booming of pre-training language models (PLMs), the application prospect and promotion potential of machine learning methods in the relevant field have been further inspired. PLMs have recently achieved tremendous success in diverse text processing tasks, whereas limited by the significant semantic gap between the pre-training corpus and the structured electronic health records (EHRs), PLMs cannot converge to anticipated disease diagnosis and prediction results. Unfortunately, establishing connections between PLMs and EHRs typically requires the extraction of curated predictor variables from structured EHR resources, which is tedious and labor-intensive, and even discards vast implicit information.In this work, we propose an Input Prompting and Discriminative language model with the Mixture-of-experts framework (IPDM) by promoting the model’s capabilities to learn knowledge from heterogeneous information and facilitating the feature-aware ability of the model. Furthermore, leveraging the prompt-tuning mechanism, IPDM can inherit the impacts of the pre-training in downstream tasks exclusively through minor modifications. IPDM remarkably outperforms existing models, proved by experiments on one disease diagnosis task and two disease prediction tasks. Finally, experiments with few-feature and few-sample demonstrate that IPDM achieves significant stability and impressive performance in predicting chronic diseases with unclear early-onset characteristics or sudden diseases with insufficient data, which verifies the superiority of IPDM over existing mainstream methods, and reveals the IPDM can powerfully address the aforementioned challenges via establishing a stable and low-resource medical diagnostic system for various clinical scenarios.

Abstract Current evidence indicate that cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play an important role in prostate cancer (PCa) development and progression. In this study, we identified CAF-related molecular subtypes and prognostic index for PCa patients undergoing radical prostatectomy through integrating single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing data. We completed analyses using software R 3.6.3 and its suitable packages. Through single-cell and bulk RNA sequencing analysis, NDRG2, TSPAN1, PTN, APOE, OR51E2, P4HB, STEAP1 and ABCC4 were used to construct molecular subtypes and CAF-related gene prognostic index (CRGPI). These genes could clearly divide the PCa patients into two subtypes in TCGA database and the BCR risk of subtype 1 was 13.27 times higher than that of subtype 2 with statistical significance. Similar results were observed in MSKCC2010 and GSE46602 cohorts. In addtion, the molucular subtypes were the independent risk factor of PCa patients. We orchestrated CRGPI based on the above genes and divided 430 PCa patients in TCGA database into high- and low- risk groups according to the median value of this score. We found that high-risk group had significant higher risk of BCR than low-risk group (HR: 5.45). For functional analysis, protein secretion was highly enriched in subtype 2 while snare interactions in vesicular transport was highly enriched in subtype 1. In terms of tumor heterogeneity and stemness, subtype 1 showd higher levels of TMB than subtype 2. In addition, subtype 1 had significant higher activated dendritic cell score than subtype 2. Based on eight CAF-related genes, we developed two prognostic subtypes and constructed a gene prognostic index, which could predict the prognosis of PCa patients very well.

Abstract Propagating deformation bands are observed to accommodate the initial plasticity in an as-extruded Mg–1.5Nd alloy under tension using digital-image-correlation. The propagating bands cause an uncommon plateau in the stress–strain response of the alloy prior to restoring a common decreasing work hardening with further straining. Effects of the deformation banding and underlying plateau in the flow stress on small scale yielding are investigated during low cycle fatigue (LCF) and tension of notched specimens. Alternating formation/disappearance of deformation bands in the gauge section of as-extruded LCF specimens during testing is observed to reduce life compared to annealed specimens exhibiting no instabilities. In contrast, the bands deflect the plastic zone ahead of the notch from the principal plane orthogonal to the applied loading inducing positive effect on toughness of the alloy.

Abstract The relationship between High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) and febrile seizures (FS) in children remains unclear. This study aimed to apply meta-analysis to reveal the correlation between HMGB1 levels and FS in children. Databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of science, Cochrane library, CNKI, SinoMed and WanFangData were searched for relevant studies. Pooled standard mean deviation and 95% confidence interval were calculated as effect size since the random-effects model was used when I2 > 50%. Meanwhile, between-study heterogeneity was determined by performing subgroup and sensitivity analyses. A total of 9 studies were finally included. Meta-analysis showed that the children with FS had significantly higher HMGB1 levels compared with healthy children and children with fever but no seizures (P15 min were higher than those with duration ≤15min (P0.05). Finally, children with FS who converted to epilepsy exhibited higher HMGB1 levels than those who did not convert to epilepsy (P

Abstract The material basis for soil formation is rock weathering debris. Understanding the particle size composition characteristics of rock weathering debris and its impacts is important for improving the soil structure of dry farmland in the central dry zone of Ningxia,China. In this study, the particle sizes of weathered debris collected from grey–green slate after indoor simulations of freeze–thaw and dry–wet cycles tests were examined. The results were as follows: (1) Under 16 treatments, the weathering debris of grey–green slate contained about 10% or less very fine sand and coarse silt, while clay, fine silt, and fine sand were the most abundant sizes (at least 60% of the total). (2) Under each treatment, the average particle size of the grey–green slate weathered debris was 5.52Ф (silt grade). The overall skewness was high, but the symmetry was poor. The particle size frequency distribution curve had many broad peaks or multiple peaks. (3) The fractal dimension was associated with very fine silt but had a strong negative correlation with fine sand and medium-coarse sand. The results indicate that fractal dimension can reflect the grain size characteristics of weathered debris. The mineral element content of the grey–green slate somewhat affected the fractal dimension, and it positively correlated with environmental electrical conductivity (EC) and element-leaching amount; it negatively correlated with particle size, temperature, and pH. According to the findings, the fractal dimension can accurately represent the particle size distribution of weathered debris. The generation of grey–green slate weathering debris should be considered in the formation and development of local soil.

Abstract This case–control study aimed to identify the clinical characteristics and explore the risk factors for liver fibrosis in metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The patients were grouped into MAFLD + HBV and MAFLD (without HBV infection). Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to match baseline features between the groups. We included 401 patients with biopsy-proven MAFLD, 179 of whom had HBV infection. A total of 83 pairs were successfully matched via PSM, and steatosis scores and ballooning in the MAFLD + HBV group were lower than those in the MAFLD group, while the inflammation scores and liver fibrosis stages were higher. After adjusted for confounding factors, HBV infection was associated with a higher risk of significant liver fibrosis in patients with MAFLD [odds ratio (OR): 3.140, P = 0.003]. Overall, 43.58% (78/179) of patients in the MAFLD + HBV group had significant liver fibrosis. Further multivariate regression analysis, hypertension (OR: 2.640; P = 0.031), type 2 diabetes (OR: 4.939; P = 0.035), and elevated glutamyl-transferase levels (OR: 3.980; P = 0.001) were risk factors for liver fibrosis in the MAFLD + HBV group. This suggests metabolic rather than viral factors are more closely associated with liver fibrosis in MAFLD patients with HBV infection.

Abstract Although the belief rule base (BRB) expert system has many advantages, such as the effective use of semi-quantitative information, objective description of uncertainty, and efficient nonlinear modeling capability, it is always limited by the problem of combinatorial explosion. The main reason is that the optimization of a BRB with many rules will consume many computing resources, which makes it unable to meet the real-time requirements in some complex systems. Another reason is that the optimization process will destroy the interpretability of those parameters that belong to the inadequately activated rules given by experts. To solve these problems, a novel optimization method for BRB is proposed in this paper. Through the activation rate, the rules that have never been activated or inadequately activated are pruned during the optimization process. Furthermore, even if there is a complete data set and all rules are activated, the activation rate can also be used in the parallel optimization process of the BRB expert system, where the training data set is divided into some subprocesses. The proposed method effectively solves the combinatorial explosion problem of BRB and can make full use of quantitative data without destroying the original interpretability provided by experts. Case studies prove the advantages and effectiveness of the proposed method, which greatly expands the application fields of the BRB expert system.

Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the most prominent causes of cancer-associated mortality in the world, with chemoresistance representing one of the leading causes of treatment failure. However, the mechanisms governing such chemoresistance remain incompletely understood. In this study, the role of DYRK2 as a mediator of CRC cell drug resistance and the associated molecular mechanisms were assessed by evaluating human tumor tissue samples, CRC cell lines, and animal model systems. Initial analyses of The Cancer Genome Atlas database and clinical tissue microarrays revealed significant DYRK2 downregulation in CRC in a manner correlated with poor prognosis. We further generated LoVo CRC cells that were resistant to the chemotherapeutic drug 5-FU, and found that such chemoresistance was associated with the downregulation of DYRK2 and a more aggressive mesenchymal phenotype. When DYRK2 was overexpressed in these cells, their proliferative, migratory, and invasive activities were reduced and they were more prone to apoptotic death. DYRK2 overexpression was also associated with enhanced chemosensitivity and the inhibition of epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) induction in these LoVo 5-FUR cells. Co-immunoprecipitation assays revealed that DYRK2 bound to Twist and promoted its proteasomal degradation. In vivo studies further confirmed that the overexpression of DYRK2 inhibited human CRC xenograft tumor growth with concomitant Twist downregulation. Overall, these results thus highlight DYRK2 as a promising therapeutic target in CRC worthy of further investigation.

Abstract This study aims to explore the recurrence rate and overall survival for patients with cervical cancer after the first treatment and the related risk factors. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on cervical cancer patients enrolled in a cancer specialist hospital in Hunan Province, China from January 1992 to December 2005 and followed up until December 2010. Kaplan–Meier survival analysis was used to estimate the cumulative recurrence rate, and Cox proportional hazards model was utilized to identify risk factors associated with prognosis. A total of 4358 patients were enrolled with a median follow-up of 7.4 years (range 5–19 years), and 372 (8.5%) patients had cancer recurrence. The cumulative recurrence rate showed a rapid increase from 3.8% in the first year after discharge to 8.0% in the fifth year, and the recurrence rate remained relatively stable afterward reaching 9.7% and 10.8% in the 10th and the 15th year, respectively. The median time to recurrence was 15.5 months with an IQR of 5.5–40.0 months. The Cox regression showed that miscarriage, clinical stage, and treatment received were significantly associated with cervical cancer recurrence after adjustment for confounders. Patients with recurrence showed a significantly higher risk for mortality than those without recurrence (HR 2.79, 95% CI 2.42–3.22). This study depicted the long-term recurrence rate and survival after recurrence for patients with cervical cancer after the first treatment, and reported time to recurrence and risk factors related to recurrence. These findings may provide important evidence for designing targeted interventions for the treatment of cervical cancer.

Abstract Spammer detection is essentially a process of judging the authenticity of users, and thus can be regarded as a classification problem. In order to improve the classification performance, multi-classifier information fusion is usually used to realize the automatic detection of spammers by utilizing the information from multiple classifiers. However, the existing fusion strategies do not reasonably take the uncertainty from the results of different classifiers (views) into account, and the relative importance and reliability of each classifier are not strictly distinguished. Therefore, in order to detect spammers effectively, this paper develops a novel multi-classifier information fusion model based on the evidential reasoning (ER) rule. Firstly, according to the user's characterization strategy, the base classifiers are constructed through the profile-based, content-based and behavior-based. Then, the idea of multi-classifier fusion is combined with the ER rule, and the results of base classifiers are aggregated by considering their weights and reliabilities. Extensive experimental results on the real-world dataset verify the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Abstract The present study aimed to identify behavioral and neurophysiological correlates of dyslexia which could potentially predict reading difficulty. One hundred and three Chinese children with and without dyslexia (Grade 2 or 3, 7- to 11-year-old) completed both verbal and visual working memory (n-back) tasks with concurrent EEG recording. Data of 74 children with sufficient usable EEG data are reported here. Overall, the typically developing control group (N = 28) responded significantly faster and more accurately than the group with dyslexia (N = 46), in both types of tasks. Group differences were also found in EEG band power in the retention phase of the tasks. Moreover, forward stepwise logistic regression demonstrated that both behavioral and neurophysiological measures predicted reading difficulty uniquely. Dyslexia was associated with higher frontal midline theta activity and reduced upper-alpha power in the posterior region. This finding is discussed in relation to the neural efficiency hypothesis. Whether these behavioral and neurophysiological patterns can longitudinally predict later reading development among preliterate children requires further investigation.

Abstract Arid area is very sensitive to global warming and are extremely vulnerable to climate change. Moreover, the water resources system in the arid area is fragile and will undergo tremendous changes with climate change. Therefore, the interaction of climate and hydrology in arid area has an important impact on the formation of regional microclimate and hydrological changes. Daihai Lake is a typical closed inland lake in arid area of China, and a key area for ecological protection in North China. In this paper, WRF-Hydro model is used to simulate the climate hydrological coupling situation of Daihai Basin from 1980 to 2020, and the coupling results are verified and calibrated by meteorological statistics, runoff calculation and remote sensing analysis. Based on the synopsis of climate and hydrology in the past 40 years, the causes and future trends of the hydrological elements in Daihai Basin are analyzed. Through the analysis, it is found that the interannual variation of precipitation in Daihai Basin is sharp, with 401.75 mm as the average from 1980 to 1994; and drastic fluctuations from 1995 to 2011, with a difference of nearly 400 mm between the interannual maximum and minimum; From 2012 to 2020, the fluctuation is small. Although the interannual variation of evaporation fluctuated, it showed an upward trend with a slope of 8.855 mm/year. The annual average temperature showed an obvious upward trend with a slope of 0.040 °C/year. From 1980 to 2020, the inflow of Daihai Lake shows a downward trend; Since 2013, the runoff into the lake has tended to be flat. Climate change and human activities are the decisive factors leading to the change of water quantity in Daihai, among which human activities play a greater role. Cultivated land irrigation and industrial water use are highly correlated with the lake discharge, and these two factors have a great influence on the lake discharge. If the current agricultural and industrial water consumption does not increase, Daihai still has a lifespan of nearly 120 years. If human activities do not change and any protective measures are not taken in time, under the background of global climate change, the flow of the Daihai Lake into the lake will be reduced to zero in 2025, and the Daihai Lake will completely dry up in 2031–2033. The study of climate hydrological coupling of long time series in Daihai Basin can not only make up for the lack of runoff data, but also provide the basis for water resources management, disaster prevention and mitigation.

Abstract JmjC domain-containing proteins, an important family of histone lysine demethylase, play significant roles in maintaining the homeostasis of histone methylation. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed the JmjC domain-containing gene family in Jatropha curcas and found 20 JmjC domain-containing genes (JcJMJ genes). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that these JcJMJ genes can be classified into five major subgroups, and genes in each subgroup had similar motif and domain composition. Cis-regulatory element analysis showed that the number and types of cis-regulatory elements owned by the promoter of JcJMJ genes in different subgroup were significantly different. Moreover, miRNA target prediction result revealed a complicated miRNA-mediated post-transcriptional regulatory network, in which JcJMJ genes were regulated by different numbers and types of miRNAs. Further analysis of the tissue and stress expression profiles showed that many JcJMJ genes had tissue and stress expression specificity. All these results provided valuable information for understanding the evolution of JcJMJ genes and the complex transcriptional and post transcriptional regulation involved, and laid the foundation for further functional analysis of JcJMJ genes.

Abstract Mastering the correct breastfeeding posture remains a challenge for many new mothers. Generalized pregnancy breastfeeding education plays a role in helping mothers master breastfeeding positions and prevent nipple damage. This study prospectively analyzed the effects of prenatal professional breastfeeding education for the family on mastering the lactation latch and preventing nipple damage. Medical records of pregnant women in the authors' hospital from April 2020 to July 2020 were prospectively analyzed. A total of 342 patients were enrolled and divided into experimental and control groups according to whether or not they had received prenatal professional breastfeeding education for the family by the random number table method. The difference in the mastery rate of the postpartum breastfeeding posture and nipple damage was examined three days postpartum. The mastery rate in the experimental group (88.5%) was significantly higher than that in the control group (63.8%), whereas the rate of nipple damage in the experimental group (23.1%) was significantly lower than that in the control group (46.9%). Prenatal professional breastfeeding education for the family can promote mothers' mastery of breastfeeding latch skills and reduce the risk of nipple damage.

Abstract Bupivacaine, a local anaesthetic, is widely applied in the epidural or subarachnoid space to clinically manage acute and chronic pain. However, the underlying mechanisms are complex and unclear. Glycine transporter 1 (GlyT1) in the spinal cord plays a critical role in various pathologic pain conditions. Therefore, we sought to determine whether bupivacaine exerts its analgesic effect by regulating GlyT1 expression and to determine the underlying mechanisms of regulation. Primary astrocytes prepared from the spinal cord of rats were treated with bupivacaine. The protein levels of GlyT1, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and phosphorylated adenosine 5′-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase α (p-AMPKα) were measured by western blotting or immunofluorescence. In addition, 7,8-dihydroxyflavone (7,8-DHF, BDNF receptor agonist) and AMPK shRNA were applied to verify the relationship between the regulation of GlyT1 by bupivacaine and the p-AMPKα/BDNF signalling pathway. After treatment with bupivacaine, GlyT1 expression was diminished in a concentration-dependent manner, while the expression of BDNF and p-AMPK was increased. Moreover, 7,8-DHF decreased GlyT1 expression, and AMPK knockdown suppressed the upregulation of BDNF expression by bupivacaine. Finally, we concluded that bupivacaine reduced GlyT1 expression in spinal astrocytes by activating the p-AMPKα/BDNF signalling pathway. These results provide a new mechanism for the analgesic effect of intrathecal bupivacaine in the treatment of acute and chronic pain.

Abstract We investigated the time and location of retinal perfusion recovery after surgical intraocular pressure (IOP) lowering in glaucoma by using optical coherent tomography angiography (OCTA). Seventeen patients were analyzed. The 4.5 × 4.5-mm OCTA scans centered on the disc were performed preoperatively and postoperatively at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. The peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (NFL) thickness, NFL plexus capillary density (NFLP-CD) and visual field (VF) were measured overall and in 8 corresponding sectors. The low-perfusion area (LPA) was used to assess the cumulative area where local NFLP-CD was significantly below normal. At 6 months, the average IOP decreased 5.3 mmHg (P = 0.004), LPA decreased by 15% (P = 0.005), and NFLP-CD improved by 12% (P

Abstract Nitrate (NO3 −) pollution is a serious global problem, and the quantitative analysis of its sources contributions is essential for devising effective water-related environmental-protection policies. The Shengjin Lake basin, located in the middle to lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China was selected as the research area in our study. We first grouped 29 surface water samples and 33 groundwater samples using cluster analysis, and then analyzed potential nitrate sources for each dataset of δ15N–NO3 − and δ18O–NO3 − isotope values by applying a Bayesian isotope-mixing model. Our results show that the nitrogen pollution in the surface-ground water in the study area seriously exceeded to class V of the Environmental Quality Standard of Surface Water of China. The NO3 − in surface water from the mid-upper reaches of the drainage basin mainly originates from soil nitrogen (SN) and chemical fertilizer (CF), with contribution rates of 48% and 32%, respectively, and the NO3 − in downstream areas mainly originates from CF and manure and sewage (MS), with contribution rates of 48% and 33%, respectively. For the groundwater samples, NO3 − mainly originates from MS, CF, and SN in the mid-upper reaches of the drainage basin and the northside of Dadukou near the Yangtze River, with contribution rates of 34%, 31%, and 29%, respectively, whereas NO3 − in the lower reaches and the middle part of Dadukou mainly originates from MS, with a contribution rate of 83%. The nitrogen conversion of surface water in lakes and in the mid-upper reaches is mainly affected by water mixing, while the groundwater and surface water in the lower plains are mainly affected by denitrification. The method proposed in this study can expand the ideas for tracking nitrate pollution in areas with complex terrain, and the relevant conclusions can provide a theoretical basis for surface and groundwater pollution control in the hilly basin of Yangtze River.

Abstract Low birth weight ( 4000 g) are both adverse birth outcomes with high health risk in short- or long-term period. However, national prevalence estimates of LBW and macrosomia varied partially due to methodology limits in China. The aim of this study is to estimate the prevalence of LBW and macrosomia after taking potential birth weight heaping into consideration in Chinese children under 6 years in 2013. The data were from a nationally representative cross-sectional survey in mainland China in 2013, which consists of 32,276 eligible records. Birth weight data and socio-demographic information was collected using standard questionnaires. Birth weight distributions were examined and LBW and macrosomia estimates were adjusted for potential heaping. The overall prevalence of LBW of Chinese children younger than 6 years was 5.15% in 2013, with 4.57% in boys and 5.68% in girls. LBW rate was higher for children who were minority ethnicity, had less educated mothers, mothers aged over 35 years or under 20 years, or were in lower income household than their counterparts. The overall prevalence of macrosomia of Chinese children younger than 6 years was 7.35% in 2013, with 8.85% in boys and 5.71% in girls. The prevalence of macrosomia increased with increasing maternal age, educational level and household income level. Both LBW and macrosomia varied among different regions and socio-economic groups around China. It is found that estimates based on distribution adjustment might be more accurate and could be used as the foundation for policy-decision and health resource allocation. It would be needed to take potential misclassification of birth weight data arising from heaping into account in future studies.

Abstract The chloroplast is one of two organelles containing a separate genome that codes for essential and distinct cellular functions such as photosynthesis. Given the importance of chloroplasts in plant metabolism, the genomic architecture and gene content have been strongly conserved through long periods of time and as such are useful molecular tools for evolutionary inferences. At present, complete chloroplast genomes from over 4000 species have been deposited into publicly accessible databases. Despite the large number of complete chloroplast genomes, comprehensive analyses regarding genome architecture and gene content have not been conducted for many lineages with complete species sampling. In this study, we employed the genus Populus to assess how more comprehensively sampled chloroplast genome analyses can be used in understanding chloroplast evolution in a broadly studied lineage of angiosperms. We conducted comparative analyses across Populus in order to elucidate variation in key genome features such as genome size, gene number, gene content, repeat type and number, SSR (Simple Sequence Repeat) abundance, and boundary positioning between the four main units of the genome. We found that some genome annotations were variable across the genus owing in part from errors in assembly or data checking and from this provided corrected annotations. We also employed complete chloroplast genomes for phylogenetic analyses including the dating of divergence times throughout the genus. Lastly, we utilized re-sequencing data to describe the variations of pan-chloroplast genomes at the population level for P. euphratica. The analyses used in this paper provide a blueprint for the types of analyses that can be conducted with publicly available chloroplast genomes as well as methods for building upon existing datasets to improve evolutionary inference.

Abstract Wideband Absorbance Immittance (WAI) has been available for more than a decade, however its clinical use still faces the challenges of limited understanding and poor interpretation of WAI results. This study aimed to develop Machine Learning (ML) tools to identify the WAI absorbance characteristics across different frequency-pressure regions in the normal middle ear and ears with otitis media with effusion (OME) to enable diagnosis of middle ear conditions automatically. Data analysis included pre-processing of the WAI data, statistical analysis and classification model development, and key regions extraction from the 2D frequency-pressure WAI images. The experimental results show that ML tools appear to hold great potential for the automated diagnosis of middle ear diseases from WAI data. The identified key regions in the WAI provide guidance to practitioners to better understand and interpret WAI data and offer the prospect of quick and accurate diagnostic decisions.

Abstract This study is a meta-analysis aimed at pooling reported data and clarifying the association between circulating level of interleukin-18 and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We searched medical databases including Medline/Pubmed, Embase, Scopus, The Cochrane Library, and Web of Science thoroughly to obtain all related articles published before July 15th, 2020. We pooled computed standardized mean difference (SMD) and its 95% confidence interval using STATA 13.0 and exhibited in the form of forest graph. Meta-regression and subgroup analysis were also performed to explore the source of heterogeneity. Publication bias was first evaluated by the symmetry of the funnel plot and then Egger’s linear regression test. Thirty eligible studies from eighteen regions were finally included and the relevant data from these studies were pooled. The analysis results displayed that SLE patients showed a significantly higher level of circulating IL-18 level in comparison with healthy controls (SMD = 1.56, 95% CI [1.20–1.93]; I2 = 94.9%, p

Abstract Treatment strategies for nipple injury are mainly based on aetiology. However, some damaged nipples do not heal after the aetiology was corrected. This study retrospectively analyses the effect of debridement for treating chronic injury of lactating nipples. The medical records on nipple injury management in the authors’ department from December 2015 to January 2020 were retrospectively analysed. A total of 167 patients were enrolled and grouped based on the presence or absence of nipple debridement. The difference in the healing effect, pain relief rate and recurrence rate of nipple injury between the two groups after 1 week was examined. The cure rate of nipple injury in the intervention group (54.3%) was significantly higher than in the control group (26.7%). In addition, the complete pain relief rate in the intervention group (48.1%) was significantly higher than in the control group (23.3%). However, the recurrence rates between the two groups (36.4% (16/44) vs. 34.8% (8/23)) had no statistically significant differences. For patients with no improvement after correction of the aetiology of the in the nipple damage, debridement can improve the healing environment of nipple breakage and thus relieve nipple pain.

Abstract Magnetic dipole coupling between the colloidal superparamagnetic nanoparticles (SPNPs) depending on the concentration has been paid significant attention due to its critical role in characterizing the Specific Loss Power (SLP) in magnetic nanofluid hyperthermia (MNFH). However, despite immense efforts, the physical mechanism of concentration-dependent SLP change behavior is still poorly understood and some contradictory results have been recently reported. Here, we first report that the SLP of SPNP MNFH agent shows strong concentration-dependent oscillation behavior. According to the experimentally and theoretically analyzed results, the energy competition among the magnetic dipole interaction energy, magnetic potential energy, and exchange energy, was revealed as the main physical reason for the oscillation behavior. Empirically demonstrated new finding and physically established model on the concentration-dependent SLP oscillation behavior is expected to provide biomedically crucial information in determining the critical dose of an agent for clinically safe and highly efficient MNFH in cancer clinics.

Abstract Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a major microvascular complication of diabetes. Susceptibility genes for type 2 diabetes may also impact the susceptibility of DR. This case-control study investigated the effects of 88 type 2 diabetes susceptibility loci on DR in a Chinese population with type 2 diabetes performed in two stages. In stage 1, 88 SNPs were genotyped in 1,251 patients with type 2 diabetes, and we found that ADAMTS9-AS2 rs4607103, WFS1 rs10010131, CDKAL1 rs7756992, VPS26A rs1802295 and IDE-KIF11-HHEX rs1111875 were significantly associated with DR. The association between CDKAL1 rs7756992 and DR remained significant after Bonferroni correction for multiple comparisons (corrected P = 0.0492). Then, the effect of rs7756992 on DR were analysed in two independent cohorts for replication in stage 2. Cohort (1) consisted of 380 patients with DR and 613 patients with diabetes for ≥5 years but without DR. Cohort (2) consisted of 545 patients with DR and 929 patients with diabetes for ≥5 years but without DR. A meta-analysis combining the results of stage 1 and 2 revealed a significant association between rs7756992 and DR, with the minor allele A conferring a lower risk of DR (OR 0.824, 95% CI 0.743–0.914, P = 2.46 × 10−4).

Abstract Typically, bone regenerative medicine is applied to repair bone defects in patients with osteoporosis. Meanwhile, there is an urgent need to develop safe and cheap drugs that induce bone formation. Icariin, which is reported to promote the osteogenesis of stem cells in vitro, is the main active component of Herba Epimedii. However, whether icariin could repair bone defects caused by osteoporosis remains unknown. In this study, an osteoporosis model in rats was established by an ovariectomy first, and then, the osteogenic and angiogenic differentiation of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) treated with icariin was evaluated. Furthermore, calcium phosphate cement (CPC) scaffolds loaded with icariin were constructed and then implanted into nude mice to determine the optimal construction. To evaluate its osteogenic and angiogenic ability in vivo, this construction was applied to calvarial defect of the ovariectomized (OVX) rats accompanied with an icariin gavage. This demonstrated that icariin could up-regulate the expression of osteogenic and angiogenic genes in BMSCs. Meanwhile, osteoclast formation was inhibited. Moreover, CPC could act as a suitable icariin delivery system for repairing bone defects by enhancing osteogenesis and angiogenesis, while the systemic administration of icariin has an antiosteoporotic effect that promotes bone defect repair.

Abstract It is widely acknowledged in Germanic languages that segments are the primary planning units at the phonological encoding stage of spoken word production. Mixed results, however, have been found in Chinese, and it is still unclear what roles syllables and segments play in planning Chinese spoken word production. In the current study, participants were asked to first prepare and later produce disyllabic Mandarin words upon picture prompts and a response cue while electroencephalogram (EEG) signals were recorded. Each two consecutive pictures implicitly formed a pair of prime and target, whose names shared the same word-initial atonal syllable or the same word-initial segments, or were unrelated in the control conditions. Only syllable repetition induced significant effects on event-related brain potentials (ERPs) after target onset: a widely distributed positivity in the 200- to 400-ms interval and an anterior positivity in the 400- to 600-ms interval. We interpret these to reflect syllable-size representations at the phonological encoding and phonetic encoding stages. Our results provide the first electrophysiological evidence for the distinct role of syllables in producing Mandarin spoken words, supporting a language specificity hypothesis about the primary phonological units in spoken word production.

Abstract Classical swine fever virus (CSFV) non-structural protein 3 (NS3) is a multifunctional non-structural protein that plays a major role in viral replication. However, how exactly NS3 exerts these functions remains unknown. Here, we identified tumour necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) as a novel NS3-interacting protein via yeast two-hybrid analysis, co-immunoprecipitation, and glutathione S-transferase pull-down assays. Furthermore, we observed that TRAF6 overexpression significantly inhibited CSFV replication, and TRAF6 knockdown promoted CSFV replication in porcine alveolar macrophages. Additionally, TRAF6 was degraded during CSFV infection or NS3 expression exclusively, indicating that CSFV and TRAF6 were mutually antagonistic and that TRAF6 degradation might contribute to persistent CSFV replication. Moreover, nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) activity and interferon (IFN)-β and interleukin (IL)-6 expression were increased in TRAF6-overexpressing cells, whereas TRAF6-knockdown cells exhibited decreased NF-κB activity and IFN-β and IL-6 levels. Notably, TRAF6 overexpression did not reduce CSFV replication following inhibition of NF-κB activation by p65 knockdown. Our findings revealed that TRAF6 inhibits CSFV replication via activation of NF-κB-signalling pathways along with increases in the expression of its targets IFN-β and IL-6. This work addresses a novel aspect concerning the regulation of innate antiviral immune response during CSFV infection.

Abstract The p53 mutation and altered Pten expression are two most common genetic events in Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). To confirm the causative role of p53 and Pten somatic mutation in HCC development, we established CRISPR/Cas9-mediated somatic gene disruption via hydrodynamic tail vein injection, allowing for in vivo targeting p53 and Pten simultaneously in adult HBV transgenic mice. Here we demonstrated that the utility of this approach resulted in macroscopic liver tumors as early as 4 months’ post injection and most tumors harbored both p53 and Pten loss-of-function alterations. Immunohistochemical (IHC) and histopathology analysis demonstrated that the tumors were positive for Glutamine synthetase (GS), a marker of HCC and accompanied with prominent lipid accumulation. The study here indicated that CRISPR/Cas9-mediated p53 and Pten somatic mutation accelerated hepatocarcinogenesis in adult HBV transgenic mice. This method also provides a fast and convenient system for generating mouse model of HCC with HBV infection characteristics.

Abstract A global insight into the roles of multiple P-type calcium ATPase (CA) pumps in sustaining the life of a filamentous fungal pathogen is lacking. Here we elucidated the functions of five CA pumps (Eca1, Spf1 and PmcA/B/C) following previous characterization of Pmr1 in Beauveria bassiana, a fungal insect pathogen. The fungal CA pumps interacted at transcriptional level, at which singular deletions of five CA genes depressed eca1 expression by 76–98% and deletion of spf1 resulted in drastic upregulation of four CA genes by 36–50-fold. Intracellular Ca2+ concentration increased differentially in most deletion mutants exposed to the stresses of Ca2+, EDTA chelator, and/or endoplasmic reticulum and calcineurin inhibitors, accompanied with their changed sensitivities to not only the mentioned agents but also Fe2+, Cu2+ and Zn2+. Liquid culture acidification was delayed in the Δspf1, Δpmr1 and ΔpmcA mutants, coinciding well with altered levels of their extracellular lactic and oxalic acids. Moreover, all deletion mutants showed differential defects in conidial germination, vegetative growth, conidiation capacity, antioxidant activity, cell wall integrity, conidial UV-B resistance and/or virulence. Our results provide the first global insight into differential roles for six CA pumps in sustaining intracellular Ca2+ level, asexual cycle and environmental fitness of B. bassiana.
