The micromechanical properties of organic matter (OM) and organic pore structures in the over-mature stage are crucial for determining shale reservoir quality and assessing shale gas resource potential. However, there is still debate about the influence of micromechanical properties of OM on the micro-mesopore structures in over-mature shale. In this study, shale cores from the Niutitang Formation have been specifically chosen for OM isolation, adsorption testing, atomic force microscopy examination, and focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM) analysis to assess the micromechanical properties of OM and pore structures. The findings indicate that organic micropores and mesopores predominantly exhibit elliptical, circular, or irregular shapes. Organic pores mainly provide pore volume (PV) and specific surface area (SSA) of shale. In the over-mature stage, residual kerogen and pyrobitumen transition towards a graphite structure, increasing Young's modulus of OM. Additionally, as thermal maturity increases, the absence of a rigid mineral framework and pore fluid pressure results in the compaction of pores, leading to a decrease in PV and SSA. The organic micropores are more vulnerable to collapse and compaction because of the increased brittleness of OM. The organic micropores and mesopores gradually evolve from regular circular and elliptical shapes to irregular shapes during the over-mature stage. Renal fibrosis is widely recognized as the ultimate outcome of many chronic kidney diseases. The process of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) plays a critical role in the progression of fibrosis following renal injury. UHRF1, as a critical epigenetic regulator, may play an essential role in the pathogenesis and progression of renal fibrosis and EMT. However, the potential mechanisms remain to be elucidated. We aim to investigate the role of UHRF1 in EMT and renal fibrosis and to evaluate the potential benefits of Hinokitiol in preventing renal fibrosis. Based on data from the GEO and Nephroseq databases, UHRF1 exhibited high expression levels in the unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model and in patients with nephropathy. Gene set enrichment analysis predicted that UHRF1 may function through the TGF-β signaling pathway in fibrosis. By establishing a TGF-β1-stimulated HK2 cell model and animal models of renal fibrosis induced by UUO and folic acid, we confirmed that UHRF1 was highly expressed in both in vitro and in vivo models of renal fibrosis. After knockdown of UHRF1 in vitro, we found that the TGF-β/SMAD signaling pathway was inhibited, renal tubular epithelial cell EMT was reduced and renal fibrosis was attenuated. Hinokitiol has been reported to reduce the expression of UHRF1 mRNA and protein. We observed that inhibition of UHRF1 with Hinokitiol ameliorated induced EMT and renal fibrosis by reducing SMAD2/3 phosphorylation in vivo and in vitro. Taken together, our data demonstrated that the upregulation of UHRF1 accelerated the EMT of renal tubular cells and renal fibrosis through the TGF-β/SMAD signaling pathway. In field of location prediction, trajectory recognition is one of the most widely research issues. Since trajectory includes various information such as position, time, and speed, many scientific methods are applied to extracting meaningful features, and discovering valuable knowledges. This paper pays more attention on case study of in-store trajectory, and proposes a series of recurrent neural network (RNN) for location prediction based on trajectory. The trajectory is provided by a indoor location system (ILS) in supermarket, and used radio frequency identification (RFID) technique to collect customer mobility data namely RFID data. After reviewing relatively previous studies, scholars mostly pursue customer segmentation and classification tasks based on trajectory, this paper briefly focus on regression analysis and pattern recognition of original trajectory itself. This paper also includes two improvements of experimental and methodological design. In ILS experiments, we select crossing sections as universal background to filtering customers and their trajectories, and choose fish, vegetable, and meat sections as experiment target, so as to train a general prediction model for heterogeneous shopping behaviors. In methodologies, we propose several RNNs with hybrid gate units on pre-defined trajectory based on RFID data, and also investigate their advances on time-series regression task for trajectory prediction. Fatigue can cause human error, which is the main cause of accidents. In this study, the dynamic fatigue recognition of unmanned electric locomotive operators under high-altitude, cold and low oxygen conditions was studied by combining physiological signals and multi-index information. The characteristic data from the physiological signals (ECG, EMG and EM) of 15 driverless electric locomotive operators were tracked and tested continuously in the field for 2 h, and a dynamic fatigue state evaluation model based on a first-order hidden Markov (HMM) dynamic Bayesian network was established. The model combines contextual information (sleep quality, working environment and circadian rhythm) and physiological signals (ECG, EMG and EM) to estimate the fatigue state of plateau mine operators. The simulation results of the dynamic fatigue recognition model and subjective synchronous fatigue reports were compared with the field-measured signal data. The verification results show that the synchronous subjective fatigue and simulated fatigue estimation results are highly consistent (correlation coefficient r = 0.971**), which confirms that the model is reliable for long-term dynamic fatigue evaluation. The results show that the established fatigue evaluation model is effective and provides a new model and concept for dynamic fatigue state estimation for remote mine operators in plateau deep mining. Accurate and efficient identification of water inrush sources, as one of the three critical elements of mine water hazards, is crucial for mine water management. To identify the sources of mine water inrush effectively, a model named HBA-CatBoost is introduced. This model is established on the hybrid bat algorithm (HBA)-optimized category feature gradient boosting tree (CatBoost), and the shapley additive explanation (SHAP) method is employed to elucidate the model's decision-making process. Given the prevalent occurrence of water hazards in coal seam roofs and floors in the northern Guizhou coalfield, coupled with the challenges in pinpointing water inrush sources in mines, the HBA-CatBoost model is tested at the Longfeng Coal Mine in northern Guizhou to validate its practicality. Comparative analysis with the HBA-RF, HBA-XGBoost, CatBoost, RF, and XGBoost models demonstrates that the hybrid bat algorithm significantly enhances the classification performance of the CatBoost model, resulting in improved convergence speed and classification accuracy. The HBA-CatBoost model outperforms the aforementioned models in terms of classification effectiveness, achieving accuracy, recall, precision, and F1 scores of 96.43%, 97.22%, 96.43%, and 96.61%, respectively. The SHAP method elucidates the decision mechanism of the optimal HBA-CatBoost model, highlighting the significance of sample features and bolstering the model's credibility. The exploration potential within deep-water petroliferous basins holds great promise for oil and gas resources. However, the dearth of geochemical and isotopic data poses a formidable challenge in comprehending the intricate hydrocarbon charging processes, thereby impeding the comprehensive understanding of hydrocarbon accumulation mechanisms and models. Consequently, the establishment of robust source-reservoir relationships in deep-water petroliferous basins represents a pivotal challenge that significantly influences the exploration strategies and the comprehension of hydrocarbon enrichment dynamics within such basins. In this study, we introduce a novel approach, termed the "source-reservoir dynamic evaluation method," tailored to investigate reservoir accumulation models in deep-water petroliferous basins. This method uses basin simulation technology to recover the thermal evolution history and hydrocarbon generation and expulsion history of source rocks, and on this basis delimits the hydrocarbon kitchen range. At the same time, the maturity of source rocks corresponding to crude oil and natural gas in typical reservoirs is calculated. Then, when the thermal evolution degree of source rocks adjacent to the reservoir reaches this maturity, the corresponding geological period is the main charging period of hydrocarbon. As a typical deep-water petroliferous basin, the Santos Basin in Brazil has abundant oil and gas reservoirs under the thick salt rock, but there are still some fundamental problems such as unclear oil-gas accumulation process and model. Therefore, in this paper, the main charging periods of typical hydrocarbon reservoirs are determined based on the internal relationship between the thermal evolution history of the main source rocks and the maturity of crude oil and natural gas, and then the hydrocarbon accumulation process is analyzed and the dynamic accumulation model is established. Finally, the favorable prospecting direction is pointed out. The results show that the oil and gas in the Barra Velha Formation in the Santos basin are mainly derived from the Itapema Formation lacustrine shale source rock, and the source rock is mainly developed in the Eastern Sag of the Central Depression, and its main hydrocarbon generation period is from the deposition period of Florianopolis Formation to the deposition period of Santos Formation. The main hydrocarbon expulsion period was from the deposition period of the Santos Formation to the Early deposition of the Iguape Formation. The oil and gas in the Barra Velha Formation were mainly charged from the Late deposition period of the Santos Formation to the Early deposition period of the Iguape Formation. During this period, the hydrocarbon migrated vertically along the normal fault formed in the rift period to the trap of the adjacent inheritance structural highs and accumulated in the reservoir, which was dominated by the accumulation model of the "lower generation-upper reservoir-salt cap". Since the Barra Velha Formation has the characteristics of near-source accumulation, based on the hydrocarbon expulsion center and hydrocarbon expulsion intensity of the source rock of the Itapema Formation, the distribution ranges of 85% and 50% Pre-salt accumulation probability in the Santos basin were calculated by using the quantitative analysis model of the hydrocarbon distribution threshold. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between hemodialysis duration (HDD) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness. A total of 60 patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis and 67 healthy controls were analyzed. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) was employed to measure annular RNFL thicknesses. The hemodialysis group exhibited reduced temporal and inferior RNFL thicknesses relative to the control group. In hemodialysis patients, the inferior RNFL thickness was negatively correlated with HDD and positively correlated with intraocular pressure (IOP). Moreover, IOP was positively correlated with HDD. Mediation analysis showed that the negative correlation between HDD and inferior RNFL thickness was mediated by IOP. In conclusion, hemodialysis leads to temporal and inferior RNFL thinning, and the thickness reduction is proportional to hemodialysis duration. Anoikis is a unique form of apoptosis associated with vascularization and distant metastasis in cancer. Eliminating anoikis resistance in tumor cells could be a promising target for improving the prognosis of terminal cancer patients. However, current studies have not elaborated on the prognosis effect of anoikis-related long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in cutaneous melanoma. Pre-processed data, including RNA sequences and clinical information, were retrieved from TCGA and GTEx databases. After a series of statistical analyses, anoikis-related lncRNAs with prognostic significance were identified, and a unique risk signature was constructed. Risk scores were further analyzed in relation to the tumor microenvironment, tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion, immune checkpoint genes, and RNA methylation genes. The indicators were also used to predict the potentially sensitive anti-cancer drugs. An anoikis-related lncRNAs risk signature consisting of LINC01711, POLH-AS1, MIR205HG, and LINC02416 was successfully established in cutaneous melanoma. Overall survival and progression-free survival of patients were strongly linked with the risk score, independently of other clinical factors. The low-risk group exhibited a more beneficial immunological profile, was less affected by RNA methylation, and was more sensitive to the majority of anti-cancer drugs, all of which indicated a better prognostic outcome. The Santos Basin, located in the southeastern waters of Brazil, is a passive continental margin basin with the most abundant deepwater petroleum resources in the world discovered to date. However, few studies have been conducted on the present geothermal fields of the Santos Basin, which severely restricts the oil and gas resource evaluation of the basin. This study first utilizes 35 temperature data from 16 post-salt drilling wells and 370 temperature data from 31 pre-salt drilling wells to calculate the post-salt and pre-salt geothermal gradients and terrestrial heat flows in the Santos Basin. Then, the basin simulation software BasinMod 1D is used to quantitatively evaluate the impacts of salt rock sedimentation on the present geothermal fields and the maturity of pre-salt hydrocarbon source rocks. The results demonstrate that the present post-salt geothermal gradient in the Santos Basin is 2.20-3.97 °C/100 m, with an average value of 2.99 °C /100 m, and the post-salt terrestrial heat flow is 54.00-97.32 mW/m 2 , with an average value of 73.36 mW/m 2 , while the present pre-salt geothermal gradient is 2.21-2.95 °C/100 m, with an average value of 2.53 °C/100 m, and the pre-salt terrestrial heat flow is 61.85-82.59 mW/m 2 , with an average value of 70.69 mW/m 2 . These values are characteristic of a low-temperature geothermal field in a zone with a stable structure. The sedimentation of the salt rock causes a decrease in the temperature of the pre-salt strata, which inhibits pre-salt hydrocarbon source rock maturity, with an inhibition rate of up to 1.32%. The inhibition degree decreases with increasing salt rock thickness. At the same time, the salt rock thickness is positively correlated with the present surface heat flow. The unique distribution of the salt rock and related salt structures lead to present terrestrial heat flow differences among different structural units in the basin. Oxidative stress refers to the process of reactive oxide species (ROS) increase in human body due to various factors, which leads to oxidative damage in human tissues. Current studies have confirmed that sustained oxidative stress is one of the distinctive features throughout the development of tumors. Numerous reports have shown that lncRNAs can regulate the process of oxidative stress through multiple pathways. However, the relationship between glioma-associated oxidative stress and lncRNAs is not clearly investigated. RNA sequencing data of GBM (glioblastoma) and LGG (low grade glioma) and corresponding clinical data were retrieved from the TCGA database. Oxidative stress related lncRNAs (ORLs) were identified by Pearson correlation analysis. Prognostic models for 6-ORLs were structured in the training cohort by univariate Cox regression analysis, multivariate Cox regression analysis and LASSO regression analysis. We constructed the nomogram and verified its predictive efficacy by Calibration curves and DCA decision curves. The biological functions and pathways of 6-ORLs-related mRNAs were inferred by Gene Set Enrichment Analysis. Immune cell abundance and immune function associated with risk score (RS) were estimated by ssGSEA, CIBERSORT and MCPcounter synthetically. External validation of the signature was completed using the CGGA-325 and CGGA-693 datasets. 6-ORLs signature-AC083864.2, AC107294.1, AL035446.1, CRNDE, LINC02600, and SNAI3-AS1-were identified through our analysis as being predictive of glioma prognosis. Kaplan-Meier and ROC curves indicated that the signature has a dependable predictive efficacy in the TCGA training cohort, validation cohort and CGGA-325/CGGA-693 test cohort. The 6-ORLs signature were verified to be independent prognostic predictors by multivariate cox regression and stratified survival analysis. Nomogram built with risk scores had strong predictive efficacy for patients' overall survival (OS). The outcomes of the functional enrichment analysis revealing potential molecular regulatory mechanisms for the 6-ORLs. Patients in the high-risk subgroup presented a significant immune microenvironment of macrophage M0 and cancer-associated fibroblast infiltration which was associated with a poorer prognosis. Finally, the expression levels of 6-ORLs in U87/U251/T98/U138 and HA1800 cell lines were verified by RT-qPCR. The nomogram in this study has been made available as a web version for clinicians. As per research, causing cancer cells to necroptosis might be used as a therapy to combat cancer drug susceptibility. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) modulates the necroptosis process in Skin Cutaneous Melanoma (SKCM), even though the precise mechanism by which it does so has yet been unknown. RNA sequencing and clinical evidence of SKCM patients were accessed from The Cancer Genome Atlas database, and normal skin tissue sequencing data was available from the Genotype-Tissue Expression database. Person correlation analysis, differential screening, and univariate Cox regression were successively utilized to identify necroptosis-related hub lncRNAs. Following this, we adopt the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis to construct a risk model. The model was evaluated on various clinical characteristics using many integrated approaches to ensure it generated accurate predictions. Through risk score comparisons and consistent cluster analysis, SKCM patients were sorted either high-risk or low-risk subgroups as well as distinct clusters. Finally, the effect of immune microenvironment, m7G methylation, and viable anti-cancer drugs in risk groups and potential clusters was evaluated in further detail. Included USP30-AS1, LINC01711, LINC00520, NRIR, BASP1-AS1, and LINC02178, the 6 necroptosis-related hub lncRNAs were utilized to construct a novel prediction model with excellent accuracy and sensitivity, which was not influenced by confounding clinical factors. Immune-related, necroptosis, and apoptosis pathways were enhanced in the model structure, as shown by Gene Set Enrichment Analysis findings. TME score, immune factors, immune checkpoint-related genes, m7G methylation-related genes, and anti-cancer drug sensitivity differed significantly between the high-risk and low-risk groups. Cluster 2 was identified as a hot tumor with a better immune response and therapeutic effect. The development of geothermal resources in the Dongpu Depression can improve not only the economic benefits of the oilfield but also the ecological environment. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the geothermal resources in the region. Based on the heat flow, geothermal gradient and thermal properties, the temperatures and their distribution in different strata are calculated using geothermal methods, and the geothermal resource types of the Dongpu Depression are identified. The results show that the geothermal resources include low-temperature, medium-temperature and high-temperature geothermal resources in the Dongpu Depression. The Minghuazhen and Guantao Formations mainly include low-temperature and medium-temperature geothermal resources; the Dongying and Shahejie Formations include low-temperature, medium-temperature and high-temperature geothermal resources; the Ordovician rocks mainly include medium-temperature and high-temperature geothermal resources. The Minghuazhen, Guantao and Dongying Formations can form good geothermal reservoirs and are favorable layers for exploring low-temperature and medium-temperature geothermal resources. The geothermal reservoir of the Shahejie Formation is relatively poor, and the thermal reservoirs may be developed in the western slope zone and the central uplift. The Ordovician carbonate strata can provide thermal reservoirs for geothermal resources, and the Cenozoic bottom temperature is more than 150 °C except for most of the western gentle slope zone. Renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) can induce acute kidney injury. Empagliflozin is a newly developed inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) approved as an antidiabetic medication for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Despite the established cardioprotective functions of empagliflozin, its protective role in renal I/R is unclear. Here, the present study evaluated the renoprotective effects of empagliflozin in a mouse model of renal I/R injury. Male C57/BL6 mice were allocated to sham-operated, I/R, and empagliflozin groups. Kidney pedicles on both sides were clamped for 45 min and were reperfused for 24 h. Empagliflozin (1 mg/kg) was administered to the mice for 2 days preischemia. The GSK-3β inhibitor SB216763 was administered intravenously at the beginning of reperfusion (0.1 mg/kg). Renal function and histological scores were evaluated. The kidneys were taken for immunohistochemical analysis, western blotting and apoptosis measurements. We found that empagliflozin decreased serum levels of creatinine and urea, reduced the average kidney weight-to-tibia length ratio, attenuated tubular damage, reduced renal proinflammatory cytokine expression and inhibited apoptosis in injured kidneys. Furthermore, empagliflozin increased renal glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK-3β) phosphorylation post I/R. Pharmacological inhibition of GSK-3β activity mimicked the renal protective effects offered by empagliflozin. Flexible Al-air batteries have great potential in the field of wearable electronic devices. However, how to reduce the thickness of the battery and improve their applicability in wearable applications is still an unresolved thorny problem. Therefore, this article focuses on the strategies to minimize the thickness of the solid electrolyte for flexible Al-air batteries. In this paper, an innovative aerosol jet printing method is used to prepare the ultrathin neutral electrolyte with a thickness of 18.3-74.5 μm. This study discusses the influence of the thickness and ion concentration on the conductance of the electrolyte in detail. The ultrathin electrolyte has been applied to the flexible Al-air battery, and the battery performance has been explored. The cell pack composed of single cells is light and thin, and can successfully drive small electrical equipment. The variable role and fate of soil colloids under different environmental conditions are derived from their dispersion and aggregation properties. In this work, dynamic and static light scattering were used to characterize the original size, aggregation kinetics of natural black soil colloids (BSCs) and structural features of aggregates in electrolytes with different cations (K + , Mg 2+ , Ca 2+ ), respectively. For these three cations, the aggregation kinetics followed the trend of Ca 2+  > Mg 2+  > K + and the critical coagulation concentration (CCC) followed the sequence: K + (134.30 mmol L -1 ) > Mg 2+ (13.27 mmol L -1 ) > Ca 2+ (4.19 mmol L -1 ). The results indicated that the aggregation behavior in different valence cation systems followed the classical Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek (DLVO) model qualitatively. However, the quantitative differences of CCC suggest the existence of ion-specific effects. The effective ionic charge coefficient 1.31, 2.20, and 2.78 of K + , Mg 2+ and Ca 2+ were proposed to consider of all the non-DLVO factors, which were obtained by forming a relationship based on mathematic between the electrostatic repulsion and the van der Waals attractive interaction at the CCC. The non-classical polarization of cations in a strong soil electric field is a primary mechanism of cation effects on soil colloid interactions, causing the difference in colloid interaction energy and further affecting soil colloid aggregation. Programmed cell death ligend-1 (PD-L1) expression by immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays is a predictive marker of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 therapy response. With the popularity of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor drugs, quantitative assessment of PD-L1 expression becomes a new labor for pathologists. Manually counting the PD-L1 positive stained tumor cells is an obviously subjective and time-consuming process. In this paper, we developed a new computer aided Automated Tumor Proportion Scoring System (ATPSS) to determine the comparability of image analysis with pathologist scores. A three-stage process was performed using both image processing and deep learning techniques to mimic the actual diagnostic flow of the pathologists. We conducted a multi-reader multi-case study to evaluate the agreement between pathologists and ATPSS. Fifty-one surgically resected lung squamous cell carcinoma were prepared and stained using the Dako PD-L1 (22C3) assay, and six pathologists with different experience levels were involved in this study. The TPS predicted by the proposed model had high and statistically significant correlation with sub-specialty pathologists' scores with Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 8.65 (95% confidence interval (CI): 6.42-10.90) and Pearson Correlation Coefficient (PCC) of 0.9436 ([Formula: see text]), and the performance on PD-L1 positive cases achieved by our method surpassed that of non-subspecialty and trainee pathologists. With the ever-reducing sizes of electronic devices, the problem of electromigration (EM) has become relevant and requires attention. However, only the EM behavior of Sn-Ag solders within the solder joint structure has been focused on thus far. Therefore, in this study, a thin metallic film composed of Sn-3.5Ag (wt.%) was subjected to a current density of 7.77 × 10 4 A/cm 2 at a temperature of 15 °C to test the ability of existing EM models to predict the nucleation and evolution of voids generated by the resulting atomic migration. A computer simulation was then used to compute the coupled current distribution, thermal distribution, and atomic migration problems. It relied on an original random walk (RW) method, not previously applied to this problem, that is particularly well suited for modelling domains that undergo changes owing to the formation of voids. A comparison of the experimental results and computer simulations proves that the RW method can be applied successfully to this class of problems, but it also shows that imperfections in the film can lead to deviations from predicted patterns.

Patients with coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) are at high risk for thrombotic arterial and venous occlusions. However, bleeding complications have also been observed in some patients. Understanding the balance between coagulation and fibrinolysis will help inform optimal approaches to thrombosis prophylaxis and potential utility of fibrinolytic-targeted therapies. 118 hospitalized COVID-19 patients and 30 healthy controls were included in the study. We measured plasma antigen levels of tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA) and plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) and performed spontaneous clot-lysis assays. We found markedly elevated tPA and PAI-1 levels in patients hospitalized with COVID-19. Both factors demonstrated strong correlations with neutrophil counts and markers of neutrophil activation. High levels of tPA and PAI-1 were associated with worse respiratory status. High levels of tPA, in particular, were strongly correlated with mortality and a significant enhancement in spontaneous ex vivo clot-lysis. While both tPA and PAI-1 are elevated among COVID-19 patients, extremely high levels of tPA enhance spontaneous fibrinolysis and are significantly associated with mortality in some patients. These data indicate that fibrinolytic homeostasis in COVID-19 is complex with a subset of patients expressing a balance of factors that may favor fibrinolysis. Further study of tPA as a biomarker is warranted.

Measuring handgrip strength is the initial step to diagnose sarcopenia. To investigate whether the serum creatinine (Cr)/cystatin C (CysC) ratio could serve as a case-finding tool for low handgrip strength, we conducted a diagnostic accuracy study. Adults (aged ≥ 40 years) with normal renal function were recruited. Trained nurses collected blood samples and conducted the anthropometric measurements and handgrip strength test. The serum concentrations of Cr, CysC, and other biomarkers were measured. We recruited 1098 men and 1241 women. The Cr/CysC ratio was significantly associated with AWGS-defined low handgrip strength among men and women. The areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves were 0.79 among men and 0.78 among women for using the Cr/CysC ratio to identify AWGS-defined low handgrip strength. We set the Cr/CysC ratio cut-off values at < 8.9 among men and < 8.0 among women. The corresponding sensitivity values were 64.9% among men and 63.1% among women, while the specificity values were 83.7% among men and 77.5% among women. In conclusion, the Cr/CysC ratio is positively and linearly associated with handgrip strength and may be helpful for screening low handgrip strength in Chinese middle-aged and older adults dwelling in communities.

Two series of Ge 0.8 Sn 0.2 samples were grown on Ge buffered Si substrate by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to investigate the influence of growth temperature and film thickness towards the evolution of surface morphology. A novel phenomena was observed that the Ge 0.8 Sn 0.2 film was segregated and relaxed by the formation of GeSn stripes on the film. Under specific growth condition, the stripes can cover nearly the whole surface. XRD, TEM, AFM, PL and TEM results indicated that the stripes are high quality single crystalline GeSn with Sn content around 5%. The formation of GeSn stripes proposes an effective strategy to fabricate high crystalline quality GeSn stripe on Si, where the Ge 0.8 Sn 0.2 film serves as precursor and the segregated Sn works as catalyst droplets. This technique has great potential for future optoelectronic and microelectronic applications.

The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) recently published an updated version (EWGSOP2). We aimed to compare the predictive values of EWGSOP-defined and EWGSOP2-defined sarcopenia for the incidence of falls and hospitalization in older adults. We defined sarcopenia according to the EWGSOP and the EWGSOP2. We further modified the cut-off points of the EWGSOP and EWGSOP2 according to the lowest quintile values of the gender-specific distribution of our study population, named "modified EWGSOP" and "modified EWGSOP2", respectively. We included 384 participants. During the follow-up, 98 participants (26.5%) and 51 participants (13.8%) had at least one fall or hospitalization, respectively. EWGSOP2-defined sarcopenia (hazard ratio [HR] 1.86, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.22-1.84) and modified EWGSOP2-defined sarcopenia (HR 2.09, 95% CI 1.23-3.55) were significantly associated with an increased incidence of falls, respectively. EWGSOP-defined sarcopenia and modified EWGSOP-defined sarcopenia also have a trend to be associated with the incidence of falls, but the results were not statistically significant. Only modified EWGSOP2-defined sarcopenia (HR 2.07, 95% CI 1.01-4.27) was significantly related to an increased incidence of hospitalization. In conclusion, EWGSOP2-defined sarcopenia performed more sensitive than EWGSOP-defined sarcopenia for predicting the incidence of falls or hospitalization, especially when using the modified cutoffs.

Fragile X Syndrome (FXS), a common inheritable form of intellectual disability, is known to alter neocortical circuits. However, its impact on the diverse synapse types comprising these circuits, or on the involvement of astrocytes, is not well known. We used immunofluorescent array tomography to quantify different synaptic populations and their association with astrocytes in layers 1 through 4 of the adult somatosensory cortex of a FXS mouse model, the FMR1 knockout mouse. The collected multi-channel data contained approximately 1.6 million synapses which were analyzed using a probabilistic synapse detector. Our study reveals complex, synapse-type and layer specific changes in the neocortical circuitry of FMR1 knockout mice. We report an increase of small glutamatergic VGluT1 synapses in layer 4 accompanied by a decrease in large VGluT1 synapses in layers 1 and 4. VGluT2 synapses show a rather consistent decrease in density in layers 1 and 2/3. In all layers, we observe the loss of large inhibitory synapses. Lastly, astrocytic association of excitatory synapses decreases. The ability to dissect the circuit deficits by synapse type and astrocytic involvement will be crucial for understanding how these changes affect circuit function, and ultimately defining targets for therapeutic intervention.

This paper presents perovskite solar cells employed with WO 3 nanoparticles embedded carbon top electrode. WO 3 nanoparticles works as an inorganic hole-transport material (HTM) to promote the hole-extraction in the perovskite/carbon interface as revealed by efficiency, electrochemical impedance and external quantum efficiency measurements. As a result, a 40% enhancement of energy conversion efficiency has been achieved compared to the reference devices with the energy conversion efficiency of 10.77% under standard conditions. In addition, the Li-TFSI can modify the interface between electron-transport material (ETM) and perovskite, which may inhibit the recombination at the ETM/perovskite interface. The V OC of devices upon the modification of Li-TFSI is increased from 887.9 to 934.2 mV. This work highlights about the enlightenment of the effective performance of carbon-based mesoscopic PSCs by the introduction of HTM and the modification of interfaces.

We aimed to compare the predictive capacity of malnutrition, sarcopenia, and malnutrition combined with sarcopenia for mortality in nursing home residents. We conducted a prospective study in four nursing homes in China. Nutrition status and sarcopenia were measured according to the new European Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN) definition and SARC-F, respectively. The study population was divided into four groups: malnutrition with sarcopenia (MN+/SA+), malnutrition without sarcopenia (MN+/SA-), sarcopenia without malnutrition (MN-/SA+), and normal nutrition without sarcopenia (MN-/SA-). The participants were followed up for 12 months. We included 329 participants. Thirty-eight participants (11.6%) had MN+/SA+, 38 participants (11.6%) had MN+/SA-, and 93 participants (28.3%) had MN-/SA+. The 1-year mortality was 18.3%, 21.5%, 18.4%, and 47.4% in the MN-/SA-, MN-/SA+, MN+/SA-, and MN+/SA+ groups, respectively. Compared to participants with MN-/SA-, participants with MN+/SA+ were at a significantly higher risk of mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [HR]: 3.19, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.71-5.95); however, MN-/SA+ (adjusted HR: 1.24, 95% CI 0.69-2.22) and MN+/SA- (adjusted HR: 0.95, 95% CI 0.41-2.19) were not predictors of mortality. In conclusion, the coexistence of malnutrition and sarcopenia is a significant predictor of mortality in a study population of Chinese nursing home residents.

Current-induced magnetization reversal via spin-orbit torques (SOTs) has been intensively studied in heavy-metal/ferromagnetic-metal/oxide heterostructures due to its promising application in low-energy consumption logic and memory devices. Here, we systematically study the function of Joule heating and SOTs in the current-induced magnetization reversal using Pt/Co/SmO x and Pt/Co/AlO x structures with different perpendicular magnetic anisotropies (PMAs). The SOT-induced effective fields, anisotropy field, switching field and switching current density (J c ) are characterized using electric transport measurements based on the anomalous Hall effect and polar magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE). The results show that the current-generated Joule heating plays an assisted role in the reversal process by reducing switching field and enhancing SOT efficiency. The out-of-plane component of the damping-like-SOT effective field is responsible for the magnetization reversal. The obtained J c for Pt/Co/SmO x and Pt/Co/AlO x structures with similar spin Hall angles and different PMAs remains roughly constant, revealing that the coherent switching model cannot fully explain the current-induced magnetization reversal. In contrast, by observing the domain wall nucleation and expansion using MOKE and comparing the damping-like-SOT effective field and switching field, we conclude that the current-induced magnetization reversal is dominated by the depinning model and J c also immensely relies on the depinning field.

Mulching is critical for increasing water availability and hence winter wheat production in dryland farming systems. A two-year study was conducted to assess the effects of mulches on soil water storage (SWS), temperature, water use efficiency (WUE) and yields of winter wheat on the Loess Plateau. Four treatments were examined: conventional flat planting (CK), straw mulch (FPS), transparent plastic film mulch (FPP) and ridge-furrow with plastic film-mulched ridge and straw-mulched furrow (RFPS). Compared with CK, RFPS greatly increased SWS from 0-60 cm, FPP increased SWS from 0-40 cm, and FPS slightly increased SWS from 0-60 cm; however, FPP significantly (P < 0.05) decreased SWS from 61-100 cm. RFPS and FPP increased soil temperatures in cold seasons relative to CK, especially in RFPS (2.0-2.3 °C). Meanwhile, the rate of soil temperature increase was greater in RFPS and FPP than in CK but was lower in FPS. Mean yields were significantly increased in RFPS (56.78%), FPP (44.72%) and FPS (9.57%), and WUE was significantly increased in RFPS (44.04%) and in FPP (37.50%) compared with CK (P < 0.05). We conclude that ridge-furrow planting with plastic film-mulched ridge and straw-mulched furrow has a good potential for raising winter wheat production on the Loess Plateau.

Successful applications of WCu alloys in high voltage electrical switches require their high strength and excellent conductivity. Unfortunately, the strategies for increasing their strength such as doping with fine particles and alloying often significantly decrease their conductivity. In this paper, we developed a new pathway for fabricating WCu alloys using spark plasma infiltrating sintering of copper-coated graphene (Cu@Gr) composite powders. Cu@Gr was found to partially prevent the formation of WC after sintering, and graphene was uniformly distributed on the surfaces of network Cu phases. Electrical conductivity of 38.512 M·S/m, thermal conductivity of 264 W·m -1 ·K -1 and microhardness of 278 HV were achieved for the sintered WCu composites doped with only 0.8 wt.% Cu@Gr powders, which showed 95.3%, 24.3%, 28% enhancement compared with those from the conventional sintering using the undoped WCu powders.

Presynaptic and postsynaptic neurotoxins are two groups of neurotoxins. Identification of presynaptic and postsynaptic neurotoxins is an important work for numerous newly found toxins. It is both costly and time consuming to determine these two neurotoxins by experimental methods. As a complement, using computational methods for predicting presynaptic and postsynaptic neurotoxins could provide some useful information in a timely manner. In this study, we described four algorithms for predicting presynaptic and postsynaptic neurotoxins from sequence driven features by using Increment of Diversity (ID), Multinomial Naive Bayes Classifier (MNBC), Random Forest (RF), and K-nearest Neighbours Classifier (IBK). Each protein sequence was encoded by pseudo amino acid (PseAA) compositions and three biological motif features, including MEME, Prosite and InterPro motif features. The Maximum Relevance Minimum Redundancy (MRMR) feature selection method was used to rank the PseAA compositions and the 50 top ranked features were selected to improve the prediction accuracy. The PseAA compositions and three kinds of biological motif features were combined and 12 different parameters that defined as P1-P12 were selected as the input parameters of ID, MNBC, RF, and IBK. The prediction results obtained in this study were significantly better than those of previously developed methods.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men and a leading cause of cancer death worldwide, displaying a broad range of heterogeneity in terms of clinical and molecular behavior. Increasing evidence suggests that classifying prostate cancers into distinct molecular subtypes is critical to exploring the potential molecular variation underlying this heterogeneity and to better treat this cancer. In this study, the somatic mutation profiles of prostate cancer were downloaded from the TCGA database and used as the source nodes of the random walk with restart algorithm (RWRA) for generating smoothed mutation profiles in the STRING network. The smoothed mutation profiles were selected as the input matrix of the Graph-regularized Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (GNMF) for classifying patients into distinct molecular subtypes. The results were associated with most of the clinical and pathological outcomes. In addition, some bioinformatics analyses were performed for the robust subtyping, and good results were obtained. These results indicated that prostate cancers can be usefully classified according to their mutation profiles, and we hope that these subtypes will help improve the treatment stratification of this cancer in the future.

The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) has long been thought to regulate conflict between an object of attention and distractors during goal-directed sustained attention. However, it is unclear whether ACC serves to sustained attention itself. Here, we developed a task in which the time course of sustained attention could be controlled in rats. Then, using pharmacological lesion experiments, we employed it to assess function of ACC in sustained attention. We then recorded neuronal activity in ACC using multichannel extracellular recording techniques and identified specific ACC neurons persistently activated during the period of attention. Further experiments showed that target modality had minimal influence on the neuronal activity, and distracting external sensory input during the attention period did not perturb persistent neuronal activity. Additionally, minimal trial-to-trial variability in neuronal activity observed during sustained attention supports a role for ACC neurons in that behavior. Therefore, we conclude that the ACC neuronal activity correlates with sustained attention.

GeSn is an attractive semiconductor material for Si-based photonics. However, large lattice mismatch between GeSn and Si and the low solubility of Sn in Ge limit its development. In order to obtain high Sn-content GeSn on Si, it is normally grown at low temperature, which would lead to inevitable dislocations. Here, we reported a single-crystal defect-free graded GeSn on insulator (GSOI) stripes laterally grown by rapid melting growth (RMG). The Sn-content reaches to 14.2% at the end of the GSOI stripe. Transmission electron microscopy observation shows the GSOI stripe without stacking fault and dislocations. P-channel pseudo metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) and metal-semiconductor-metal (MSM) Schottky junction photodetectors were fabricated on these GSOIs. Good transistor performance with a low field peak hole mobility of 402 cm 2 /Vs is obtained, which indicates a high-quality of this GSOI structure. Strong near-infrared and short-wave infrared optical absorption of the MSM photodetectors at 1550 nm and 2000 nm were observed. Owing to high Sn-content and defect-free, responsivity of 236 mA/W@-1.5 V is achieved at 1550 nm wavelength. In addition, responsivity reaches 154 mA/W@-1.5 V at 2000 nm with the optical absorption layer only 200 nm-thick, which is the highest value reported for GeSn junction photodetectors until now.

Cell senescence can limit proliferative potential and prevent tumorigenesis. Bmi1 is a key regulator in cell senescence by suppressing the Ink4a/Arf locus. However, how to regulate Bmi1 activity in cell senescence is largely unknown. Here, we show that SENP1 plays an important role in cell senescence by regulating Bmi1 SUMOylation. Senp1 -/- primary MEF cells show resistance to cell senescence induced by passaging or other senescence inducing signals. SENP1 deficiency also reduces oncogene H-Ras V12 -induced senescence, and enhances H-Ras V12 -induced cell transformation. We further show that in Senp1 -/- MEFs the expression of p19 Arf , an important regulator in p53/p21-mediated cell senescence, is markedly reduced. Meanwhile, we demonstrate that SENP1 can specifically de-SUMOylate Bmi1 and thereby decreases the occupancy of Bmi1 on p19 Arf promoter leading to decrease of H2AK119 mono-ubiquitination and up-expression of p19 Arf . These data reveal a crucial role of SENP1 in regulation of cell senescence as well as cell transformation.

The voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) is the target of sodium-channel-blocking insecticides. Traditionally, animals were thought to have only one VGSC gene comprising a α-subunit with four homologous domains (DI-DIV). The present study showed that Rhopalosiphum padi, an economically important crop pest, owned a unique heterodimeric VGSC (H1 and H2 subunits) encoded by two genes (Rpvgsc1 and Rpvgsc2), which is unusual in insects and other animals. The open reading frame (ORF) of Rpvgsc1 consisted 1150 amino acids, and the ORF of Rpvgsc2 had 957 amino acids. Rpvgsc1 showed 64.1% amino acid identity to DI-DII of Drosophila melanogaster VGSC and Rpvgsc2 showed 64.0% amino acid identity to DIII-DIV of D. melanogaster VGSC. A M918L mutation previously reported in pyrethroids-resistant strains of other insects was found in the IIS4-S6 region of R. padi field sample. The two R. padi VGSC genes were expressed at all developmental stages and showed similar expression patterns after treatment with beta-cypermethrin. Knockdown of Rpvgsc1 or Rpvgsc2 caused significant reduction in mortality rate of R. padi after exposure to beta-cypermethrin. These findings suggest that the two R. padi VGSC genes are both functional genes.

Highly ordered mesoporous graphitic carbon was synthesized from a simple surfactant-assisted nanocasting route, in which ordered mesoporous silica SBA-15 maintaining its triblock copolymer surfactant was used as a hard template and natural soybean oil (SBO) as a carbon precursor. The hydrophobic domain of the surfactant assisted SBO in infiltration into the template's mesoporous channels. After the silica template was carbonized and removed, a higher yield of highly-ordered graphitic mesoporous carbon with rod-like morphology was obtained. Because of the improved structural ordering, the mesoporous carbon after amine modification could adsorb more CO2 compared with the amine-functionalized carbon prepared without the assistance of surfactant.

Ebola virus infections cause a deadly hemorrhagic disease for which no vaccines or therapeutics has received regulatory approval. Here we show isolation of three (Q206, Q314 and Q411) neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) against the surface glycoprotein (GP) of Ebola virus identified in West Africa in 2014 through sequential immunization of Chinese rhesus macaques and antigen-specific single B cell sorting. These mAbs demonstrated potent neutralizing activities against both pseudo and live Ebola virus independent of complement. Biochemical, single particle EM, and mutagenesis analysis suggested Q206 and Q411 recognized novel epitopes in the head while Q314 targeted the glycan cap in the GP1 subunit. Q206 and Q411 appeared to influence GP binding to its receptor NPC1. Treatment with these mAbs provided partial but significant protection against disease in a mouse model of Ebola virus infection. These novel mAbs could serve as promising candidates for prophylactic and therapeutic interventions against Ebola virus infection.

Ras is a small GTPase that regulates numerous processes in the cellular development and morphogenesis of many organisms. In this study, we identified and functionally characterized the Clg2p gene of Curvularia lunata, which is homologous with the Ras protein. The Clg2p deletion mutant (ΔClg2p) had altered appressorium formation and conidial morphology and produced fewer, smaller lesions compared with the wild-type strain. When a dominant Clg2p allele was introduced into the mutant, all of these defective phenotypes were completely restored. To further understand the regulation of Clg2p in appressorium formation and conidial morphology, and its role in pathogenicity, seven Clg2p-interacting proteins were screened using a yeast two-hybrid assay. Two of these proteins, Clf, a homologue of Mst11, which corresponds to MAP kinase kinase kinase in Magnaporthe oryzae, and urate oxidase (designated ClUrase) were functionally characterized. Clg2p specifically interacted with Clf through its RA domain to regulate appressorium formation and pathogenicity, whereas the Clg2p-ClUrase interaction regulated conidial morphology without affecting fungal pathogenicity. This report is the first to elucidate the regulatory mechanism of the key Ras protein Clg2p in C. lunata.

Atmospheric nitrogen (N) dry deposition is an important component in total N deposition. However, uncertainty exists in the assessment of global dry deposition. Here, we develop empirical models for estimating ground N concentrations using NO2 satellite measurements from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) and ground measurements from 555 monitoring sites. Global patterns and trends in the fluxes of NO2, HNO3, NH4(+), and NO3(-) were assessed for 2005-2014. Moreover, we estimated global NH3 dry deposition directly using data from 267 monitoring sites. Our results showed that East Asia, the United States, and Europe were important regions of N deposition, and the total annual amount of global inorganic N deposition was 34.26 Tg N. The dry deposition fluxes were low in Africa and South America, but because of their large area, the total amounts in these regions were comparable to those in Europe and North America. In the past decade, the western United States and Eurasia, particularly eastern China, experienced the largest increases in dry deposition, whereas the eastern United States, Western Europe, and Japan experienced clear decreases through control of NOx and NH3 emissions. These findings provide a scientific background for policy-makers and future research into global changes.

As a critical regulator of the B-cell receptor signaling pathway, Bruton's tyrosine kinase (Btk) has attracted intensive drug discovery efforts for treating B-cell lineage cancers and autoimmune disorders. In particular, covalent inhibitors targeting Cys481 in Btk have demonstrated impressive clinical benefits, and their companion affinity probes have been crucial in the drug development process. Recently, we have discovered a novel series of 2,5-diaminopyrimidine-based covalent irreversible inhibitors of Btk. Here, we present the discovery of a novel affinity Btk probe based on the aforementioned scaffold and demonstrate its usage in evaluating the target engagement of Btk inhibitors in live cells.

A DNA barcode is a DNA fragment used to identify species. For land plants, DNA fragments of plastid genome could be the primary consideration. Unfortunately, most of the plastid candidate barcodes lack species-level resolution. The identification of DNA barcodes of high resolution at species level is critical to the success of DNA barcoding in plants. We searched the available plastid genomes for the most variable regions and tested the best candidates using both a large number of tree species and seven well-sampled plant groups. Two regions of the plastid gene ycf1, ycf1a and ycf1b, were the most variable loci that were better than existing plastid candidate barcodes and can serve as a barcode of land plants. Primers were designed for the amplification of these regions, and the PCR success of these primers ranged from 82.80% to 98.17%. Of 420 tree species, 357 species could be distinguished using ycf1b, which was slightly better than the combination of matK and rbcL. For the well-sampled representative plant groups, ycf1b generally performed better than any of the matK, rbcL and trnH-psbA. We concluded that ycf1a or ycf1b is the most variable plastid genome region and can serve as a core barcode of land plants.

The poor control of the adhesion of TiO2 nanotubes (TNTs) layers to a non-anodized titanium (Ti) substrate has limited their widespread application, because the stripping mechanism has not yet been revealed. Here, we report a novel method to control the detachment of TNTs by post-treatment of the as-fabricated samples in protic and aprotic solvents with different polarities. Post-treatment using an organic solvent of lower polarity increases the adhesion of the tube layer, in contrast to the spontaneous detachment of the TNT layer after treatment using a solvent of higher polarity. The structure and the composition at the rupture interface were studied to explore the mechanism of the stripping behavior. Based on our experimental results and previous studies, a hypothesis of a hydrogen-assisted cracking (HAC) mechanism was proposed to explain the mechanism of TNTs' natural detachment and the control over of TNTs' stripping behaviors by post-treatment, in which the presence of protons at the interface between the TNT layer and the Ti substrate play an important role in controlling the two layers' cohesion. In summary, this method and mechanism hold promise to be used as a tool for the design and fabrication of TNT-related materials in future.

Atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition, an important component in the global N cycle, has increased sharply in recent decades in China. Here, we constructed national-scale inorganic N wet deposition (Ndep) patterns in China based on data from 280 observational sites and analysed the effects of anthropogenic sources and precipitation on Ndep. Our results showed that the mean Ndep over China increased approximately 25%, from 11.11 kg ha(-1) a(-1) in the 1990s to 13.87 in the 2000s. Ndep was highest over southern China and exhibited a decreasing gradient from southern to western and northern China. The decadal difference in Ndep between the 1990s and 2000s was primarily caused by increases in energy consumption and N fertiliser use. Our findings conformed that anthropogenic activities were the main reason for the Ndep increase and provide a scientific background for studies on ecological effects of N deposition in China.
