Here, this study reports single-band red upconversion emission in β-Ba2ScAlO5: Yb3+/Er3+ phosphor by doping Mn2+. The optimum concentration of Mn2+ ions in β-Ba2ScAlO5: Yb3+/Er3+ phosphor was 0.20. The intensity of red and green emissions is increased by 27.4 and 19.3 times, respectively. Compared with the samples without Mn2+ ions, the red-green integral strength ratio of β-Ba2ScAlO5: Yb3+/Er3+/Mn2+ sample was significantly increased by 28.4 times, reaching 110.9. The UCL mechanism was explored by analyzing the down-conversion luminescence spectra, absorption spectra, UCL spectra, and upconversion fluorescence lifetime decay curves of Yb3+/Er3+/Mn2+ co-doped β-Ba2ScAlO5. The enhancement of upconversion red light is achieved through energy transfer between defect bands and Er3+ ions, as well as energy transfer between Mn2+ ions and Er3+ ions. In addition, the Mn2+ doped β-Ba2ScAlO5: Yb3+/Er3+ red UCL phosphors have great potential for ambient temperature sensing in the 298–523 K temperature range. To develop and verify an automatic classification method using artificial intelligence deep learning to determine the bone mineral density level of the implant site in oral implant surgery from radiographic data obtained from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Seventy patients with mandibular dentition defects were scanned using CBCT. These Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine data were cut into 605 training sets, and then the data were processed with data standardization, and the Hounsfiled Unit (HU) value level was determined as follows: Type 1, 1000–2000; type 2, 700–1000; type 3, 400–700; type 4, 100–400; and type 5, − 200–100. Four trained dental implant physicians manually identified and classified the area of the jaw bone density level in the image using the software LabelMe. Then, with the assistance of the HU value generated by LabelMe, a physician with 20 years of clinical experience confirmed the labeling level. Finally, the HU mean values of various categories marked by dental implant physicians were compared to the mean values detected by the artificial intelligence model to assess the accuracy of artificial intelligence classification. After the model was trained on 605 training sets, the statistical results of the HU mean values of various categories in the dataset detected by the model were almost the same as the HU grading interval on the data annotation. This new classification provides a more detailed solution to guide surgeons to adjust the drilling rate and tool selection during preoperative decision-making and intraoperative hole preparation for oral implant surgery. This paper presents perovskite solar cells employed with WO3 nanoparticles embedded carbon top electrode. WO3 nanoparticles works as an inorganic hole-transport material (HTM) to promote the hole-extraction in the perovskite/carbon interface as revealed by efficiency, electrochemical impedance and external quantum efficiency measurements. As a result, a 40% enhancement of energy conversion efficiency has been achieved compared to the reference devices with the energy conversion efficiency of 10.77% under standard conditions. In addition, the Li-TFSI can modify the interface between electron-transport material (ETM) and perovskite, which may inhibit the recombination at the ETM/perovskite interface. The VOC of devices upon the modification of Li-TFSI is increased from 887.9 to 934.2 mV. In recent years, the prevalence of allergic diseases has increased significantly, causing great concern, and wheat, as one of the top 8 food allergens, is a common allergy trigger. Nevertheless, reliable estimates of the positivity rate of wheat allergens in the allergic population in China are still lacking. The systematic review and meta-analysis aims to evaluate the positive detection rate of wheat allergens in the Chinese allergic population and further provide a reference for the prevention of allergy. CNKI, CQVIP, WAN-FANG DATA, Sino Med, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases were retrieved. Related research and case reports about the positive rate of wheat allergen in the Chinese allergic population published from inception to June 30, 2022, were searched, and meta-analysis was performed using Stata software. The pooled positive rate of wheat allergens and 95% confidence interval were calculated by random effect models, and the publication bias was evaluated using Egger's test. A total of 13 articles were included for the final meta-analysis, in which wheat allergen detection methods involved only serum sIgE testing and SPT assessment. The results showed that the wheat allergen positivity detection rate in Chinese allergic patients was 7.30% (95% CI 5.68–8.92%). Subgroup analysis showed that the positivity rate of wheat allergens was influenced by region, but hardly by age and assessment method. The positive rates of wheat allergy in the population with allergic diseases were 2.74% (95% CI 0.90–4.58%) and 11.47% (95% CI 7.08–15.87%) in southern and northern China, respectively. In particular, the positive rates of wheat allergens were greater than 10% in Shaanxi, Henan and Nei Mongol, all of which belong to the northern region. These results suggest that wheat allergens are an important cause of sensitization in allergic populations from northern China, and therefore attention should be paid to early prevention in high-risk populations. Enhanced high-order diffractions which are spatially dispersive are desirable in such as spectroscopy studies, thin-film solar cells, etc. Conventionally, the dielectric gratings can be used to realize the enhanced diffraction, but the facets are usually rugged and optically thick (~μm). Plasmonic materials may exhibit unprecedented ability for manipulating light. Nonetheless, much interest has been focused on the subwavelength metasurfaces working in the zero-order regime. Here, we show that ultra-broadband and strongly enhanced diffraction can be achieved with the super-wavelength metasurfaces. For the purpose, we employ symmetric or asymmetric metal patches on a ground metal plane, which support the localized oscillation of free electrons and enhanced scattering of light. The zero-order reflection is suppressed, giving rise to an enhancement of first-order diffraction (50 ~ 95%) in an ultra-wide bandwidth (600 ~ 1500 nm). The proposed plasmonic structure is planar and ultra-thin (with an etching depth of only 80 nm), showing new potential for constructing compact and efficient dispersive elements. Glutathione S-transferase (GSTs) are members of multifunction enzymes in organisms and mostly known for their roles in insecticide resistance by conjugation. Spodoptera litura (Fabricius) is a voracious agricultural pest widely distributed in the world with high resistance to various insecticides. The function of GSTs in the delta group of S. litura is still lacking. Significantly up-regulation of SlGSTd1 was reported in four pyrethroids-resistant populations and a chlorpyrifos-selected population. To further explore its role in pyrethroids and organophosphates resistance, the metabolism and peroxidase activity of SlGSTD1 were studied by heterologous expression, RNAi, and disk diffusion assay. The results showed that Km and Vmax for 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (CDNB) conjugating activity of SlGSTD1were 1.68 ± 0.11 mmol L−1 and 76.0 ± 2.7 nmol mg−1 min−1, respectively. Cyhalothrin, beta-cypermethrin, and chlorpyrifos had an obvious inhibitory effect on SlGSTD1 activity, especially for fenvalerate, when using CDNB as substrate. Fenvalerate and cyhalothrin can be metabolized by SlGSTD1 in E. coli and in vitro. Also, silencing of SlGSTd1 significantly increased the toxicity of fenvalerate and cyhalothrin, but had no significant effect on the mortality of larvae treated by beta-cypermethrin or chlorpyrifos. SlGSTD1 possesses peroxidase activity using cumene hydroperoxide as a stress inducer. A dense bridge-like tissue named the myodural bridge (MDB) connecting the suboccipital muscles to the spinal dura mater was originally discovered in humans. However, recent animal studies have revealed that the MDB appears to be an evolutionarily conserved anatomic structure which may have significant physiological functions. Our previous investigations have confirmed the existence of the MDB in finless porpoises. The present authors conducted research to expound on the specificity of the MDB in the porpoise Neophocana asiaeorientalis (N.asiaeorientalis). Five carcasses of N.asiaeorientalis, with formalin fixation, were used for the present study. Two of the carcasses were used for head and neck CT scanning, three-dimensional reconstructions, and gross dissection of the suboccipital region. Another carcass was used for a P45 plastination study. Also, a carcass was used for a histological analysis of the suboccipital region and also one was used for a Scanning Electron Microscopy study. The results revealed that the MDB of the N.asiaeorientalis is actually an independent muscle originating from the caudal border of the occiput, passing through the posterior atlanto-occipital interspace, and then attaches to the cervical spinal dura mater. Thus the so called MDB of the N.asiaeorientalis is actually an independent and uniquely specialized muscle. Based on the origin and insertion of this muscle, the present authors name it the 'Occipital-Dural Muscle'. It appears that the direct pull of this muscle on the cervical spinal dura mater may affect the circulation of the cerebrospinal fluid by altering the volume of the subarachnoid space via a pumping action. Due to the poor situation of water-flooding mechanism research on Chang 4 + 5 reservoir of Ordos basin, the authors quantitatively studied the influence factors of water-flooding characteristics by sedimentology, casting thin sections, constant-speed mercury injection, scanning electron microscope as well as production records. The size and distribution of pore-throat were also found closely related with the water-flooding seepage law. The results show that the microscopic seepage paths of Chang 4 + 5 reservoir include uniform displacement, finger displacement and peak displacement, and their correspondent oil displacement efficiency reduces in turn under the same conditions. Reservoir heterogeneity, reservoir properties, distribution of pore structure and wettability play a decisive role in water-flooding efficiency. Generally, When the intra-layer range is greater than 4.65, the breakthrough coefficient is greater than 3.54, the coefficient of variation is greater than 0.7, the distribution frequency of inter-layer is greater than 0.5 per meter, and the distribution density is greater than 0.435%, the range between layers is greater than 6.86, the breakthrough coefficient is greater than 2.58, the coefficient of variation is greater than 0.51, and the thickness of inter-layer is greater than 7.54 m. the increasing trend of oil displacement efficiency will be obviously weakened. Tuberculosis, a severe infectious disease caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis, arouses huge concerns globally. In this study, a total of 331,594 TB cases in Zhejiang Province were notified during the period of 2009–2018 with the gender ratio of male to female 2.16:1. The notified TB incidences demonstrated a continuously declining trend from 75.38/100,000 to 52.25/100,000. Seasonally, the notified TB cases presented as low in January and February closely followed an apparent rise in March and April. Further stratification analysis by both genders demonstrated the double peak phenomenon in the younger population ("15–35") and the elders (">55") of the whole group. Results from the rate difference (RD) analysis showed that the rising TB incidence mainly presented in the young group of "15–20" and elder group of "65–70", implying that some implementations such as the increased frequency of checkup in specific student groups and strengthening of elder health examination could be explored and integrated into available health policy. Nitidine chloride (NC), a bioactive alkaloid isolated from Zanthoxylum nitidum, has been used as a herbal ingredient in toothpaste that prevents cavities for decades. It also displays potential antitumor and anti-inflammation properties. However, its anticatabolic effect on bone is not known. We investigated the effect of NC on osteoclastogenesis, bone resorption and RANKL-induced NF-κB and NFATc1 signalling. In mouse-derived bone marrow monocytes (BMMs), NC suppressed RANKL-induced multinucleated tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP)-positive osteoclast formation and bone resorption in a dose dependent manner. NC attenuated the expression of osteoclast marker genes including cathepsin K, D2, calcitonin receptor, NFATc1, and TRAP. Further, NC inhibited RANKL-activated NF-κB and NFATc1 signalling pathways. In vivo study revealed that NC abrogated oestrogen deficiency-induced bone loss in ovariectomized mice. Histological analysis showed that the number of osteoclasts was significantly lower in NC-treated groups. Collectively, our data demonstrate that NC suppressed osteoclastogenesis and prevented OVX-induced bone loss by inhibiting RANKL-induced NF-κB and NFATc1 signalling pathways. Emerging evidence has shown that serum uric acid (SUA) elevation might cause metabolic derangements, including metabolic syndrome (MetS) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD); however, magnitude of the risk has not been quantified. We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and ISI databases for relevant studies through 10 May 2015. Prospective studies reporting the risk of SUA elevation on the incidence of MetS/NAFLD were enrolled. Pooled HR of MetS was 1.55 (95%CI: 1.40-1.70) for the highest versus lowest SUA categories, and 1.05 (95%CI: 1.04-1.07) per incremental increased in SUA of 1 mg/dl. The pooled HR of MetS in younger women was higher than age-matched men and older women (1.17 vs. 1.05 and 1.04, respectively, P < 0.05). Individuals in the highest SUA category had a 40% greater risk of disease NAFLD occurrence. Dose-response increment of NAFLD events was 1.03 (95%CI: 1.02-1.05). A positive relationship with a linear trend for SUA elevation with MetS and NAFLD in different genders was examined by a dose-response meta-analysis (P < 0.001).SUA assay is useful in screening metabolic disorders for linear trend between its elevation and MetS/NAFLD incidence. This study assessed the efficacy of percutaneous contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in localization sentinel lymph node (SLNs) for biopsy and diagnosis of metastatic SLNs in patients with early breast cancer. From January to November 2017, seventy-five patients with early breast cancer confirmed by pathology were enrolled in this study. CEUS was performed after subdermal injection of ultrasound contrast agent (SonoVue, 2.0 ml in total dose) around the areola on the ipsilateral side of the breast. The contrast-enhanced lymphatic vessels and associated SLNs were observed and traced in real time. The lymphatic vessels and SLN were mapped and labeled on the skin surface. Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) was performed after injection of 2.0 ml methylene blue at same injection site of SonoVue. The accuracy of percutaneous CEUS localization of SLNs was determined compared to blue dye injection technique. The pathological results under blue dye guided biopsy were used as the reference standard to calculate the sensitivity and specificity of CEUS for the diagnosis of SLNs. A total of 163 SLNs obtained through SLNB following methylene blue tracing in 75 patients. There were 116 SLNs identified by percutaneous CEUS. The difference of detection rates between blue dye and CEUS was statistically significant (Z = −2.651, P = 0.008). The identification rate of SLNs by CEUS was 71.17% (116/163). The accuracy of percutaneous CEUS localization of axillary SLNs was 94.67% (71/75) compared to blue dye-guided biopsy. Among the 116 SLNs detected by percutaneous CEUS, pathologic results showed 51 positive SLNs and 65 negative SLNs whiles CEUS findings indicated 83 positive SLNs and 33 negative SLNs. Only 50 of 83 SLNs had metastasis on pathology, while 33 were detected as false positive. The sensitivity and specificity of CEUS for the diagnosis of metastatic SLN was 98.04%(50/51) and 49.23%(32/65), respectively. Percutaneous CEUS can be used as an effective method to localize the SLNs for guiding SLNB. This method has excellent sensitivity for identifying the SLNs but lower specificity for detecting metastatic SLNs in patients with early stage breast cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study was to determine the associations between cardiovascular health and the waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR). A cross-sectional study was performed recruiting 26701 middle-aged Chinese men. Of the seven ideal cardiovascular health metrics, body mass index (BMI), total cholesterol (TC), blood pressure (BP), and fasting blood glucose (FBG) were found to increase with an elevation of the mean WC and WHtR. The mean WC and WHtR were significantly lower in the subjects with intermediate or ideal cardiovascular health than those with poor or intermediate health. After adjustment for age, the mean WC and WHtR decreased by 1.486 cm and 0.009 per 1-point increase in the cardiovascular health score, and 2.242 cm and 0.013 per 1-point increase in the number of ideal cardiovascular health metrics, respectively. The cardiovascular health score was negatively correlated with the WC (r = −0.387) and WHtR (r = −0.400), while the number of ideal cardiovascular health metrics was negatively associated with the WC (r = −0.384) and WHtR (r = −0.395). The cardiovascular health is correlated negatively with the WC and WHtR, and a stronger correlation existed between the cardiovascular health and WHtR than WC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Manganese (Mn) is an important micronutrient element required for plant growth and development, playing catalytic roles in enzymes, membranes and DNA replication. The tea plant (Camellia sinensis) is able to accumulate high concentration of Mn without showing signs of toxicity, but the molecular mechanisms underlying this remain largely unknown. In this study, the C. sinensis cultivar 'LJCY' had higher Mn tolerance than cultivar 'YS', because chlorophyll content reduction was lower under the high Mn treatment. Proteomic analysis of the leaves revealed that C. sinensis Metal Tolerance Protein 8 (CsMTP8) accumulated in response to Mn toxicity in cultivar 'LJCY'. The gene encoding CsMTP8, designated as CsMTP8 was also isolated, and its expression enhanced Mn tolerance in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Similarly, the overexpression of CsMTP8 in Arabidopsis thaliana increased plant tolerance and reduced Mn accumulation in plant tissues under excess Mn conditions. Subcellular localization analysis of green florescence fused protein indicated that CsMTP8 was localized to the plasma membranes. Taken together, the results suggest that CsMTP8 is a Mn-specific transporter, which is localized in the plasma membrane, and transports excess Mn out of plant cells. The prion protein (PRNP) gene is associated with prion diseases, whereas variants of the PRNP gene may also explain some cases of Alzheimer disease (AD) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in Caucasian populations. To determine the prevalence of the PRNP gene in patients with AD and FTD in China, we screened all exons of the PRNP gene in a cohort of 683 cases (606 AD and 77 FTD) in the Chinese Han population and we detected a novel missense mutation p.S17G in a late-onset AD (LOAD) patient. Furthermore, we analyzed the PRNP M/V polymorphism at codon 129, which was previously reported as a risk factor. However, there were no significant differences in genotype and allele frequency either in AD (OR = 0.75[0.378-1.49], P = 0.492), or FTD patients (OR = 2.046[0.265-15.783], P = 0.707). To our knowledge, this is the first study to reveal a correlation between the PRNP gene and Chinese AD and FTD patients in a large cohort. This study reports a novel p.S17G mutation in a clinically diagnosed LOAD patient, suggesting that the PRNP mutation is present in Chinese AD patients, whereas, M129V polymorphism is not a risk factor for AD or FTD in the Chinese Han population. S-1 monotherapy is widely used following gemcitabine failure in pancreatic cancer, especially in East Asia. We performed a meta-analysis to determine whether S-1-based combination therapy had better efficacy and safety compared with S-1 monotherapy. We searched Pubmed, Web of Science, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Cochrane CENTRAL and subsequently included five trials with a total of 690 patients. The combined hazard ratio (HR) or risk ratio; the corresponding 95% confidence intervals of progression-free survival, overall survival, and overall response rate; and grade 3-4 adverse events were examined. Five randomized controlled trials were included. Meta-analysis demonstrated S-1-based combination therapy significantly increased progression-free survival (HR = 0.78, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.67-0.90, p = 0.0009) and overall response rate (HR = 1.74, 95% CI: 1.20-2.52, p = 0.003). Evidence was insufficient to confirm that S-1-based combined regimens improved overall survival (HR = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.75-1.00, p = 0.05). There was no significant difference in adverse events between the two treatment arms. Irreversible electroporation (IRE) with microsecond-pulsed electric fields (μsPEFs) can effectively ablate hepatocellular carcinomas in animal models. This preclinical study evaluates the feasibility and safety of IRE on porcine livers. Altogether, 10 pigs were included. Computed tomography (CT) was used to guide two-needle electrodes that were inserted near the hilus hepatis and gall bladder. Animals were followed-up at 2 hours and at 2, 7 and 14 days post-treatment. During and after μsPEF ablation, electrocardiographs found no cardiovascular events, and contrast CT found no portal vein thrombosis. There was necrosis in the ablation zone. Mild cystic oedema around the gall bladder was found 2 hours post-treatment. Pathological studies showed extensive cell death. There was no large vessel damage, but there was mild endothelial damage in some small vessels. Follow-up liver function tests and routine blood tests showed immediate liver function damage and recovery from the damage, which correlated to the pathological changes. These results indicate that μsPEF ablation affects liver tissue and is less effective in vessels, which enable μsPEFs to ablate central tumour lesions close to the hilus hepatis and near large vessels and bile ducts, removing some of the limitations and contraindications of conventional thermal ablation. Leucine-rich glioma inactivated 1 (LGI1) is a secreted protein that interacts with ADAM transmembrane proteins, and its mutations are linked to human epilepsy. The function of LGI1 in CNS development remains undefined. Here, we report novel functions of LGI1 in the generation of cerebellar granule precursors (CGPs) and differentiation of radial glial cells (RGCs) in the cerebellum. A reduction in external granule layer thickness and defects in foliation were seen in embryonic and new-born LGI1 knockout (KO) mice. BrdU staining showed an inhibited proliferation of CGPs in KO embryos, which might be explained by the reduced Sonic hedgehog in embryos. In addition, the differentiation of RGCs into Bergmann glias was suppressed in KO mice. Enhanced Jagged1-Notch1 signaling in KO mice via reduced β-secretase proteolysis suggests that altered phenotype of RGCs is due to abnormal Notch1 signaling.
