Reducing the heat loss in wellbore is the key for efficient development of geothermal resource. It is a reliable solution to establish a long-term stable wellbore with good thermal insulation through cementing. In this paper, the cement-based composite thermal insulation material was prepared by using cement as the cementing material, hollow glass beads, foaming agent and stabilizer as main raw materials, and other conventional admixtures. Foams and hollow glass beads can introduce gas with low thermal conductivity into cement, so as to improve the thermal insulation of composite material. Foams are produced by chemical forming process, using foaming agent, which is prepared according electrochemistry and thermodynamics, and the foam stabilizer helps foam distribute in cement slurry stably and uniformly. 10–13% hollow glass beads can significantly reduce the thermal conductivity of hardened cement, without significant adverse effects on the rheology and strength of the material. The thermal conductivity of the composite thermal insulation material can be as low as 0.2998 W·(m·K)−1, which is 62% lower than that of conventional cement, while the compressive strength is 6.10 MPa, meeting the engineering requirement. A thermal-conductivity prediction method is proposed correspondingly based on Maxwell model, and the prediction error of the newly established model is within 2%. In this study, the photothermal effect and up-conversion florescence imaging effect of gold nanobipyramids in liver cancer cells are investigated theoretically and experimentally to explore the photothermal ablation tumor therapy with higher photothermal conversion efficiency, shorter laser action time, smaller action range and lower laser power. The small-size gold nanobipyramids with good biocompatibility and infrared absorption peak located in the first biological window are synthesized. Femtosecond laser is focused on the nanobipyramids clusters in cells and the cells die after being irradiated for 20 s at a power as low as 3 mW. In contrast, the control cells die after irradiation with 30 mW laser for 3 min. The theoretical simulation results show that: under femtosecond laser irradiation, the local thermal effect of gold nanoclusters is produced in the range of hundreds of square nanometers and the temperature rises by 516 °C in 106 picoseconds. This therapy reduces the treatment time to seconds level, and the treatment range to square micrometer level, the power to milliwatt level. In this treatment, cells die by apoptosis rather than necrosis, which reduces inflammation. In spintronics, it is important to be able to manipulate magnetization rapidly and reliably. Several methods can control magnetization, such as by applying current pulses or magnetic fields. An applied current can reverse magnetization with nanosecond speed through the spin torque effect. For faster switching, subpicosecond switching with femtoseconds laser pulse has been achieved in amorphous rare-earth transition-metal ferrimagnets. In this study, we employed atomistic simulations to investigate ultrafast switching in a synthetic antiferromagnet with bilayer amorphous FeGd ferrimagnets. Using a two-temperature model, we demonstrated ultrafast switching in this synthetic antiferromagnet without external magnetic fields. Furthermore, we showed that if we initially stabilize a skyrmion in this heterostructure, the ultrafast laser can switch the skyrmion state using the same mechanism. To explore the value of ultrasound in the preoperative diagnosis of nonpalpable testis (NPT) in children. A retrospective study of 254 cases with NPT from May 2017 to December 2021. The preoperative ultrasound examination results were compared with the surgical exploration and pathological results. There were 254 cases (312 testes) NPT has got surgery in our centre. The surgical age were from 6 month to 12 years old, the median age was 2.33 years. There were 103 cases (136 testes) diagnosed as intra-abdominal testis (IAT) by preoperative ultrasound, and 80 cases (103 testes) of extra-abdominal testis (EAT), 71 cases (73 testes) of non-viable testis (NVT). There were 102 cases (135 testes) consistented as IAT by the diagnostic laparoscopy, the preoperative ultrasound's coincidence of IAT was 99.02%. There were 80 cases (103 testes) consistented as EAT by the diagnostic laparoscopy, the preoperative ultrasound's coincidence rate was100%. There were 62 cases (62 testes) consistented as NVT by the diagnostic laparoscopy, there were 9 cases (11 testes) misdiagnosed, the preoperative ultrasound's coincidence rate was 84.9%. Ultrasound can provide valuable information for the preoperative diagnosis of children with nonpalpable testicles, and especially good at identifying the EAT and IAT with normal testicular morphology. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widespread chemicals. Legacy PFAS have been phased out of production in most developed countries and emerging PFAS (short-chain PFAS and polyfluorinated compounds) are used as legacy PFAS alternatives. The effect of legacy and emerging PFAS on cytokine homeostasis in human remains poorly understood. This study aimed to evaluate the associations between legacy and emerging PFAS and cytokine profiles, and identify the main contributors to the disturbance of cytokine homeostasis. We quantified 21 PFAS in 198 Chinese women of childbearing age from 2015 to 2016. 13 cytokines were measured using the Meso Scale Discovery U-PLEX and V-PLEX platforms. The associations between PFAS exposure and cytokine levels were assessed using multiple linear regression (single-exposure), and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) models (PFAS mixture exposure). In single PFAS models, legacy and alternative PFAS were positively associated with Th1 and Treg cytokines, and negatively associated with Th2 and Th17 cytokines. For instance, each ln-unit increase in 6:2 chlorinated perfluoroalkyl ether sulfonic acid (6:2 Cl-PFESA), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) was associated with a decrease in IL-10 by − 0.228 (95% CI: − 0.336, − 0.120), − 0.153 (95% CI: − 0.277, − 0.030), and − 0.174 (95% CI: − 0.339, − 0.010), respectively. The BKMR model showed a significantly positive association of PFAS mixture with TGF-β and a negative association with IL-10. This study aimed to explore the gut microbiota characteristics of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients. A case–control study was conducted, and high-throughput sequencing of the V4–V5 region of 16S rRNA was used to analyze the differences in gut microbiota. The results showed that Proteobacteria was significantly increased in the ischemic stroke group compared with the healthy control group, while Fusobacteria was significantly increased in the hemorrhagic stroke group. In the ischemic stroke group, Butyricimonas, Alloprevotella, and Escherichia were significantly more abundant than in the healthy control group. In the hemorrhagic stroke group, Atopobium, Hungatella, Eisenbergiella, Butyricimonas, Odonbacter, Lachnociostridium, Alistipes, Parabacteroides, and Fusobacterium were significantly more abundant than in the healthy control group. Additionally, Alloprevotella, Ruminococcus, and Prevotella were significantly more abundant in the ischemic stroke group than in the hemorrhagic stroke group. The gut microbiota of ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients has significant diversity characteristics. This study aimed to assess the effects of combined cognitive training on prospective memory ability of older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). A total of 113 participants were divided into a control group and three intervention groups. Over three months, the control group received only community education without any training, whereas for the first six weeks, an executive function training group received executive function training, a memory strategy training group received semantic encoding strategy training, and the combined cognitive training group received executive function training twice a week for the first six weeks, and semantic encoding strategy training twice a week for the next six weeks. The combined cognitive training group showed improvement on the objective neuropsychological testing (Montreal Cognitive Assessment scale). The memory strategy training group showed improvement on the self-evaluation scales (PRMQ-PM). To overcome the severe toxicity and blind absorption zone of conventional lead-based shielding materials for X-rays in the 70–90 keV range, the lead-free multilayered polymer composites were designed and fabricated. The effects of the direction of incidence of the X-rays and number of layers as well as layer thickness ratio of the (tungsten/ethylene-octene copolymer)/(bismuth/ethylene-octene copolymer) layered composites on their shielding efficiency were studied systematically. Compared to the traditional polymer blending, the multilayered polymer composites exhibited the improved photon attenuation. The multilayered polymer composites (layer thickness ratio was 3:7) with 6 layers had the best X-ray shielding ability. Moreover, the X-ray shielding provided by the multi-layered interfaces and the multiple complementary effect of the absorption within the multilayered structure were firstly proposed based on computer simulations. The multilayered structural design effectively weakened the probability of the X-ray penetration. Therefore, the X-ray shielding capability can be effectively enhanced through increasing number of layers and the synergistic effect of multi-layered interfaces. Compound Kushen injection (CKI), a medicine in widespread clinical use in China, has proven therapeutic effects on cancer. However, few molecular mechanism analyses have been carried out. To address this problem, bioinformatics approaches combining weighted gene co-expression network analysis with network pharmacology methods were undertaken to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms of CKI in the treatment of esophageal cancer (ESCA). First, the key gene modules related to the clinical traits of ESCA were analysed by WCGNA. Based on the results, the hub genes related to CKI treatment for ESCA were explored through network pharmacology. Molecular docking simulation was performed to recognize the binding activity of hub genes with CKI compounds. The results showed that the potential hub targets, including EGFR, ErbB2, CCND1 and IGF1R, are therapeutic targets of CKI for the treatment of ESCA. Moreover, these targets were significantly enriched in many pathways related to cancer and signalling pathways, such as the PI3K-Akt signalling pathway and ErbB signalling pathway. In conclusion, this research partially highlighted the molecular mechanism of CKI in the treatment of ESCA, offering great potential in the identification of the effective compounds in CKI and biomarkers for ESCA treatment. In an attempt to improve the oral bioavailability of taxanes, a series of new analogues were synthesized and tested in a panel of human tumor cell lines and cellular permeability assays. Compounds T-13 and T-26 showed potent cytotoxicity and exhibited the highest permeability, so they were selected for pharmacokinetic studies. Here, pharmacokinetics of T-13 and T-26 were studied after intravenous injection (5 mg/kg) and oral administration (60 mg/kg) in male Sprague-Dawley (S.D.) rats, respectively. Plasma concentrations were characterized using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). The oral bioavailability of T-13 and T-26 was determined to be 10.71% and 65.79%, respectively. Compounds T-13 and T-26 were both poor substrates of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), and they had a much higher bioavailability than paclitaxel, especially T-26. The process of blasting stress wave propagation and crack propagation is directly affected by the physical properties of the rock mass and internal joints in the rock. In soft and hard rock layers, the blasting process is more complicated since the blasting stress wave needs to penetrate two kinds of rocks with different physical properties and the interface between soft rock and hard rock. In this study, the modal transformation of stress waves at the interface of layered composite rock was analyzed, and the process was reproduced by finite element analysis. Furthermore, the development law of cracks was explored. The research results demonstrated that in the single blasting-hole model, a triangular crack area caused by reflected stress waves appeared at the rock interface of rock medium I near the blast hole. In rock medium II, the tensile crack generated by the interface wave appeared on the side away from the blast hole. Besides, the development of the tensile crack was associated with the incident mode of the blast stress wave and the incident angle. To investigate the clinical characteristics of Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS) in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS). Records of patients with positive anti-SSA antibodies hospitalized in the Beijing Tiantan Hospital between December 2011 and May 2020 were retrieved. Patients who fulfilled the criteria for diagnosis of GBS and primary SS were included, and their clinical data were analyzed. Among the 785 patients with positive anti-SSA, 52 patients were identified in this study. They were 27 males and 25 females with median age of 59 years old. Besides anti-SSA antibodies, multiple autoantibodies were detected in these patients including antinuclear antibody, anti-Ro52, anti-mitochondrial M2, anti-thyroid peroxidase and anti-thyroglobulin autoantibodies. Preceding infection was reported in 42 patients. Hyporeflexia/areflexia and limbs weakness were the most common manifestation and 35 patients presented cranial nerve injuries. GBS disability score of 3, 4 and 5 was scaled in 28 (53.8%), 15 (28.8%) and 3 (5.8%) patients respectively. Forty-six patients received intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) monotherapy, 5 patients were treated by IVIG plus glucocorticoids, and 51 patients improved during hospitalization. The frequency of male gender among the patients with both GBS and primary SS suggests an independent onset of GBS and the co-existence of these autoimmune diseases in patients with multiple autoantibodies. Pore network modeling (PNM) has been widely investigated in the study of multiphase transport in porous media due to its high computational efficiency. The advantage of PNM is achieved in part at the cost of using simplified geometrical elements. Therefore, the validation of pore network modeling needs further verification. A Shan-Chen (SC) multiphase lattice Boltzmann model (LBM) was used to simulate the multiphase flow and provided as the benchmark. PNM using different definitions of throat radius was performed and compared. The results showed that the capillary pressure and saturation curves agreed well when throat radius was calculated using the area-equivalent radius. The discrepancy of predicted phase occupations from different methods was compared in slice images and the reason can be attributed to the capillary pressure gradients demonstrated in LBM. Finally, the relative permeability was also predicted using PNM and provided acceptable predictions when compared with the results using single-phase LBM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Preeclampsia (PE) is a severe multisystem pregnancy complication characterized by gestational hypertension and proteinuria. Bcl-2/adenovirus E1B 19-kDa interacting protein 3 (BNIP3) is a mediator of mitophagy and has been proven to be associated with PE, but the mechanism is not well understood. This study aimed to investigate the role of BNIP3 in PE. Placentae from preeclamptic and normal pregnancies were analyzed by western-blot and transmission electron microscopy to quantify the level of BNIP3 expression and observe the organelle morphologies. Trophoblast cells with knockdown BNIP3 were analyzed by western-blot, immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, migration and invasion assays. BNIP3 expression was suppressed in PE patients. Impaired autophagy and increased mitochondrial damage were observed in PE placentae when compared with normal placentae. Suppression of BNIP3 inhibited Beclin-1 expression and reduced the transformation of LC3-I to LC3-II. In the knockdown BNIP3 group, p62 was overexpressed, ROS accumulated and the apoptotic process was elevated under oxidative stress condition. The knockdown of BNIP3 reduced the colocalization of GFP-LC3 and mitochondria. The findings of this study suggest that dysregulated BNIP3 is associated with impaired mitophagy, oxidative stress, and apoptosis in PE. Chinese herbal medicine is widely used because it has a good safety profile and few side effects. However, the risk of adverse drug reactions caused by herb-drug interactions (HDIs) is often overlooked. Therefore, the task of identifying possible HDIs and elucidating their mechanisms is of great significance for the prevention and treatment of HDI-related adverse reactions. Since extract from Dioscorea bulbifera L. rhizomes (DB) can cause various degrees of liver damage, it is speculated that HDIs may occur between DB extract and chemicals metabolized or excreted by the liver. Our study revealed that the cardiotoxicity of pirarubicin (THP) was increased by co-administration of DB, and the expression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and multidrug resistance-associated protein 2 (Mrp2) in the liver was inhibited by DB extract, which led to the accumulation of THP in heart tissue. Most initially perfect flowers of Toona ciliata Roem subsequently develop into functionally unisexual flowers and their relative positions in the same inflorescence could enhance the outcrossing system in this species. Here we investigated the mating system of this species. We used eight nuclear microsatellite markers and investigated the progeny of 125 mother trees from six populations naturally distributed in South China, with sample sizes ranging from 64 to 300 seeds. The multilocus outcrossing rate was 0.970 ± 0.063, and the single locus outcrossing rate was 0.859 ± 0.106, indicating the pattern of predominant outcrossing. Selfing was present in one population, but biparental inbreeding occurred in five populations. Inbreeding was absent in maternal parents, and correlations of selfing among families or among loci were generally insignificant. Positive correlation of paternity at multiple loci was significant in four populations, but was not consistent with the results at single loci. Population substructure occurred in male similarity between outcrosses only in one population. Population genetic differentaitaion was significant (Fst = 34.5%) and the effects of isolation-by-distance at the eight loci were significant among the six populations. These results provide evidence that self-comptability and inbreeding naturally occur in T. ciliata and indicate that inbreeding avoidance is necessary during genetic improvement and breeding of this endangered tree species. For seed-bearing plants, the basis of seed and fruit formation is pollination. The normal progression of pollination is through advances in continuous signal exchange and material transfer, which occur mainly in female reproductive organs; thus, the molecular mechanism of development in female reproductive organs is vital for understanding the principle of pollination. However, molecular biology studies on the development of female cones related to pollination are rare and unclear in gymnosperms, especially in Cupressaceae. In this study, Platycladus orientalis, a monotypic genus within Cupressaceae, was chosen to examine female cone transcriptomes at pre-pollination and pollination stages by Illumina paired-end sequencing technology to de novo sequence six libraries with 3 biological replicates. These libraries were used to construct a P. orientalis transcriptome database containing 71,669 unigenes (4,963 upregulated unigenes and 11,747 downregulated unigenes at the pollination stage) for subsequent analysis. Based on the annotations and expression levels, the functions of differentially expressed unigenes and enriched pathways between the developmental processes of female cones were analysed to detail the preliminary development and pollination mechanism of the female cone. Targeted investigations were specifically performed to determine the elementary mechanism of secretion and functioning of the pollination drop, a vital ovule secretion at the pollination stage. Ultimately, the expression of 15 unigenes selected between two stages were further assessed and confirmed using qRT-PCR, which demonstrated reliable data and significant differences in the expression profiles of key genes. As one of the largest available transcriptomic resources of this species, the database is constructed to prospectively adapt to the physiological and genomic data of woody plants. This work provided the first transcriptome profile of P. orientalis female cones at different developmental stages, and will promote the illumination of the pollination mechanism of P. orientalis, and will serve as the basis for in-depth genomic study in the Cupressaceae family. Yinzhihuang granules (YZHG) is a patented Chinese medicine for the treatment of hepatitis B. This study aimed to investigate the intrinsic mechanisms of YZHG in the treatment of hepatitis B and to provide new evidence and insights for its clinical application. The chemical compounds of YZHG were searched in the CNKI and PUBMED databases, and their putative targets were then predicted through a search of the SuperPred and Swiss Target Prediction databases. In addition, the targets of hepatitis B were obtained from TTD, PharmGKB and DisGeNET. The abovementioned data were visualized using Cytoscape 3.7.1, and network construction identified a total of 13 potential targets of YZHG in the treatment of hepatitis B. Molecular docking verification showed that CDK6, CDK2, TP53 and BRCA1 might be strongly correlated with hepatitis B treatment. Furthermore, GO and KEGG analyses indicated that the treatment of hepatitis B by YZHG might be related to positive regulation of transcription, positive regulation of gene expression, the hepatitis B pathway and the viral carcinogenesis pathway. Network pharmacology intuitively shows the multicomponent, multitarget and multichannel pharmacological effects of YZHG in the treatment of hepatitis B and provides a scientific basis for its mechanism of action. The temperature dependence of upper critical field μ0Hc2 of Ca0.83La0.17FeAs2 and Ca0.8La0.2Fe0.98Co0.02As2 single crystals are investigated by measuring the resistivity for the inter-plane (H//c) and in-plane (H//ab) directions in magnetic fields up to 60 T. It is found that μ0Hc2(T) of both crystals for H//c presents a sublinear temperature dependence with decreasing temperature, whereas the curve of μ0Hc2(T) for H//ab has a convex curvature and gradually tends to saturate at low temperatures. μ0Hc2(T) in both crystals deviates from the conventional Werthamer-Helfand-Hohenberg (WHH) theoretical model without considering spin paramagnetic effect for H//c and H//ab directions. Detailed analyses show that the behavior of μ0Hc2(T) in 112-type Iron-based superconductors (IBSs) is similar to that of most IBSs. Two-band model is required to fully reproduce the behavior of μ0Hc2(T) for H//c, while the effect of spin paramagnetic effect is responsible for the behavior of μ0Hc2(T) for H//ab. Multi-herb therapy has been widely used in Traditional Chinese medicine and tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual. However, the potential molecular or systems mechanisms of them to treat various diseases have not been fully elucidated. To address this question, a systems pharmacology approach, integrating pharmacokinetics, pharmacology and systems biology, is used to comprehensively identify the drug-target and drug-disease networks, exemplified by three representative Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae herb pairs for treating various diseases (coronary heart disease, dysmenorrheal and nephrotic syndrome). First, the compounds evaluation and the multiple targeting technology screen the active ingredients and identify the specific targets for each herb of three pairs. Second, the herb feature mapping reveals the differences in chemistry and pharmacological synergy between pairs. Third, the constructed compound-target-disease network explains the mechanisms of treatment for various diseases from a systematic level. Tongue cracks refer to fissures with different depth and shapes on the tongue's surface, which can characterize the pathological characteristics of spleen and stomach. Tongue cracks are of great significance to the objective study of tongue diagnosis. However, tongue cracks are small and complex, existing methods are difficult to extract them effectively. In order to achieve more accurate extraction and identification of tongue crack, this paper proposes to apply a deep learning network based on image segmentation (Segmentation-Based Deep-Learning, SBDL) to extract and identify tongue crack. In addition, we have studied the quantitative description of tongue crack features. Firstly, the pre-processed tongue crack samples were amplified by using adding salt and pepper noise, changing the contrast and horizontal mirroring; secondly, the annotation tool Crack-Tongue was used to label tongue crack; thirdly, the tongue crack extraction model was trained by using SBDL; fourthly, the cracks on the tongue surface were detected and located by the segmentation network, and then the output and features of the segmentation network were put into the decision network for the classification of crack tongue images; finally, the tongue crack segmentation and identification results were quantitatively evaluated. The experimental results showed that the tongue crack extraction and recognition results based on SBDL were better than Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask R-CNN), DeeplabV3+, U-Net, UNet++ and Semantic Segmentation with Adversarial Learning (SegAN). This method effectively solved the inaccurate tongue crack extraction caused by the tongue crack's color being close to the surrounding tongue coating's color. This method can achieve better tongue crack extraction and recognition results on a small tongue crack data set and provides a new idea for tongue crack recognition, which is of practical value for tongue diagnosis objectification. The international pesticide trade network (iPTN) is a key factor affecting global food production and food security. The trade relationship is a key component in iPTNs. In a complex international trade environment, we model the impacts of uncertain factors such as trade wars, economic blockades and local wars, as removing vital relationships in the trade network. There are many complex network studies on node centrality, but few on link centrality or link importance. We propose a new method for computing network link centrality. The main innovation of the method is in converting the original network into a dual graph, the nodes in the dual graph corresponding to the links of the original network. Through the dual graph, the node centrality indicators can measure the centrality of the links in the original network. We verify the effectiveness of the network link centrality indicator based on the dual graph in the iPTN, analyze the relationship between the existing network link centrality indicators and the indicator proposed in this paper, and compare their differences. It is found that the trade relationships with larger indicators (hub, outcloseness, outdegree) based on the dual graph have a greater impact on network efficiency than those based on the original pesticide trade networks. Mn-Co-Ni-O (MCN) spinel oxide material, a very important transition metal oxide (TMO) with the best application prospects in information and energy fields, was discovered over five decades ago, but its applications have been impeded by the quality of its films due to the magnitude of deposition challenge. Here we report that high quality of MCN nanofilms can be achieved by sputtering deposition via acetate precursors whose decomposition temperatures are matched to the initial synthesis temperature of the MCN thin films. Excellent performance of MCN nanofilms is demonstrated, combining for the first time preferred orientation, high temperature coefficient of resistance, and moderate resistivity. The film devices show an intrinsic recombination with a much faster rate of the order of a microsecond for the laser-pumped carriers, which is ~3 orders of magnitude larger compared with that of the ceramic material. The electronic structure of the thin films confirms that it is indeed of n-type nature, exhibiting appropriate electronic states consistent with the levels of metal electrodes and semiconductors. The results offer a vital avenue for depositing high performance TMO thin films for advanced oxide devices, and will have great significance for exploiting new applications in modern oxide electronics and optoelectronics. The recovery of low-quality waste heat is a major problem in energy utilization. In order to solve this problem and improve energy utilization, the research group designed a low-quality waste heat power generation device with Roots power machine as the core. However, the device has poor ability to adjust the rotation speed and it is difficult to generate electricity stably. The fundamental reason is that the system has many variables and strong coupling. According to the actual working conditions, the power of the device is 10 kW, and the fluctuation range should be within ± 7%. On the one hand, it can be improved by hardware, on the other hand, the design of software is also very critical. At present, through the investigation of domestic and foreign researches on the control system, it is found that the stability of the system is gradually improved, but the problem of strong coupling between variables has not been effectively solved. Therefore, the research group modeled the variables in the system and obtained a coupled model. Based on the couple model, the research group introduced nonlinear multi-model adaptive closed-loop decoupling control and designed a control system. The simulation results show that the maximum overshoot of the control system is 3.9%, the adjustment time is also reduced, and it is stable in low quality waste heat recovery device. Experimental results show that under the control of the system, the rotational speed of roots motor can keep stable, the maximum deviation is not more than 21.4 r/min, and the fluctuation range is within ± 7%, which meets the requirements of the index. Exercise intolerance is one of the major symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Exercise training can benefit COPD patients, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The modified Total Body Recumbent Stepper (TBRS, Nustep-T4) can benefit patients with stroke, spinal cord injury and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Nevertheless, the effect of TBRS training alone on pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) in COPD patients remains largely unknown. We aimed to explore the effect of TBRS training on exercise capacity and the thioredoxin system (TRXS) in COPD patients to provide a novel rehabilitation modality and new theoretical basis for PR of COPD patients. Ninety stable COPD patients were randomly divided into a control group (NC group) and a TBRS training group (TBRS group), with 45 cases in each group. Subjects in the TBRS training group were scheduled to undergo TBRS endurance training triweekly for 12 weeks under the guidance of a rehabilitation therapist. We assessed the primary outcome: exercise capacity (6-min walking distance, 6MWD); and secondary outcomes: perception of dyspnoea (mMRC, Borg), the COPD assessment test (CAT), the BODE index, pulmonary function, the number of acute exacerbations of COPD and oxidative stress (TRXS) at one-year follow-up. Compared with before the intervention and the control group, after the intervention, the TBRS training group, exhibited an increase in the 6MWD (from 366.92 ± 85.81 to 484.10 ± 71.90, 484.10 ± 71.90 vs 370.63 ± 79.87, P < 0.01), while the scores on the BORG, mMRC, BODE index, CAT, and the number of acute exacerbations of COPD were reduced, and the protein and mRNA expression levels of TRXS was significantly increased (P < 0.01). However, no differences were found in PF parameters in the comparison with before the intervention or between groups. TBRS training can effectively increase exercise capacity, while there are indications that it can alleviate COPD-related dyspnoea and reduce the number of acute exacerbations of COPD. Recombinant human endostatin (Endostar) plus vinorelbine/cisplatin (NP) had been approved for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). But the real-world treatment pattern and effectiveness of Endostar plus other combination chemotherapy, namely docetaxel/platinum (DP), gemcitabine/platinum (GP), pemetrexed/platinum (PP), and paclitaxel/platinum (TP) in both treatment-naïve and re-treatment patients with advanced NSCLC were still unclear. A retrospective observational study was conducted based on the electronic medical record (EMR) system and advanced patients with NSCLC were identified from 7 cancer hospitals in China from 2012 to 2019. These patients were divided into five groups, Endostar plus NP, Endostar plus DP, Endostar plus GP, Endostar plus PP, and Endostar plus TP groups. The disease control rate (DCR), overall response rate (ORR), and the progression-free survival (PFS) were evaluated. Of the eligible 512 advanced patients with NSCLC, 10.35% were in Endostar plus NP group, while the numbers were 15.43%, 32.42%, 26.56%, 15.23% in Endostar plus DP group, Endostar plus GP group, Endostar plus PP group, and Endostar plus TP group, respectively. The ORRs were 31%, 28%, 22%, 41% and 27%, and the DCRs were 71%, 72%, 57%, 72% and 76%, respectively. The median of PFSs for the above groups were 7.9, 6.8, 5.6, 13.7, and 5.4 months. Compared with Endostar plus NP group, the hazard ratios (HRs) and 95%CIs of Endostar plus other chemotherapy were 1.86 (0.75–4.61), 2.15 (0.83–5.60), 1.33 (0.51–3.44), and 2.42 (0.86–6.81). This real-world study found the effectiveness of Endostar plus DP, Endostar plus GP, Endostar plus PP, and Endostar plus TP were of no statistically significant differences compared with Endostar plus NP and reflected the good effectiveness of Endostar plus different chemotherapy in advanced patients with NSCLC. Fertilizer application is important to achieve sustainable agriculture. However, it remains unclear about the effects of long term fertilization on C and N immobilization as well as C/N ratios in soil aggregates at different depths. Samples taken at depths of 0 to 40 cm from dryland red soil subjected to long-term fertilization were analyzed. Four treatments were involved in the long term fertilization including no fertilizer (control), chemical fertilizer applied at two different rates, and manure combined with chemical fertilizers (MNPK). The C and N concentrations in the soil aggregates of different sizes were significantly higher (P < 0.05) and the C/N ratios in the particulate organic matter were significantly lower (P < 0.05) for soil to 20 cm deep for the MNPK treatment than for the other treatments. ANOVA indicated that the C and N concentration and C/N ratios in different sizes of aggregates significantly varied with soil depth (P < 0.05). Microaggregates contained most of the C and N, and the C/N ratios for silt–clay particles in macroaggregates were 1.37 unit (ranging − 0.25 to 2.44) lower than for other soil particles with diameters < 53 µm. The C and N contents in aggregates of different sizes increased as the C input rate increased to a depth of 40 cm because of the fertilization practices. Overall, both increased C input and deep application of C sources promoted the storage of C and N in microaggregates, which in turn increased C and N sequestration in dryland red soils. Airborne LiDAR bathymetry offers low cost and high mobility, making it an ideal option for shallow-water measurements. However, due to differences in the measurement environment and the laser emission channel, the received waveform is difficult to extract using a single algorithm. The choice of a suitable waveform processing method is thus of extreme importance to guarantee the accuracy of the bathymetric retrieval. In this study, we use a wavelet-denoising method to denoise the received waveform and subsequently test four algorithms for denoised-waveform processing, namely, the Richardson–Lucy deconvolution (RLD), blind deconvolution (BD), Wiener filter deconvolution (WFD), and constrained least-squares filter deconvolution (RFD). The simulation and measured multichannel databases are used to evaluate the algorithms, with focus on improving their performance after data-denoising and their capability of extracting water depth. Results show that applying wavelet denoising before deconvolution improves the extraction accuracy. The four algorithms perform better for the shallow-water orthogonal polarization channel (PMT2) than for the shallow horizontal row polarization channel (PMT1). Of the four algorithms, RLD provides the best signal-detection rate, and RFD is the most robust; BD has low computational efficiency, and WFD performs poorly in deep water (< 25 m). To clarify the phytogeography of Prunus armeniaca L., two chloroplast DNA fragments (trnL-trnF and ycf1) and the nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) were employed to assess genetic variation across 12 P. armeniaca populations. The results of cpDNA and ITS sequence data analysis showed a high the level of genetic diversity (cpDNA: HT = 0.499; ITS: HT = 0.876) and a low level of genetic differentiation (cpDNA: FST = 0.1628; ITS: FST = 0.0297) in P. armeniaca. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) revealed that most of the genetic variation in P. armeniaca occurred among individuals within populations. The value of interpopulation differentiation (NST) was significantly higher than the number of substitution types (GST), indicating genealogical structure in P. armeniaca. P. armeniaca shared genotypes with related species and may be associated with them through continuous and extensive gene flow. The haplotypes/genotypes of cultivated apricot populations in Xinjiang, North China, and foreign apricot populations were mixed with large numbers of haplotypes/genotypes of wild apricot populations from the Ili River Valley. The wild apricot populations in the Ili River Valley contained the ancestral haplotypes/genotypes with the highest genetic diversity and were located in an area considered a potential glacial refugium for P. armeniaca. We report the generation of frequency-uncorrelated photon pairs from counter-propagating spontaneous parametric down-conversion in a periodically-poled KTP waveguide. The joint spectral intensity of photon pairs is characterized by measuring the corresponding stimulated process, namely, the difference frequency generation process. The experimental result shows a clear uncorrelated joint spectrum, where the backward-propagating photon has a narrow bandwidth of 7.46 GHz and the forward-propagating one has a bandwidth of 0.23 THz like the pump light. The heralded single-photon purity estimated through Schmidt decomposition is as high as 0.996, showing a perspective for ultra-purity and narrow-band single-photon generation. Such unique feature results from the backward-wave quasi-phase-matching condition and does not has a strict limitation on the material and working wavelength, thus fascinating its application in photonic quantum technologies. Psoralen is one of the most effective ingredients extracted from the Chinese herb, Psoralea corylifolia L. Studies have found that psoralen has anti-inflammatory and estrogen-like effects; however, little research has been conducted to elucidate the mechanisms underlying these effects. Through the molecule docking assay, psoralen was found to have a better combination with ERα than ERβ. In human periodontal ligament cells, psoralen was found to upregulate the estrogen target genes (e.g., CTSD, PGR, TFF1) and down-regulate the expression of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-8) stimulated by P. gingivalis LPS, as well as TLR4-IRAK4-NF-κb signaling pathway proteins. These effects were reversed by the ER antagonist ICI 182780. These results indicated that psoralen may exert anti-inflammatory effects as an agonist to ER, which could provide a theoretical basis for the use of psoralen for adjuvant therapy and prevention of periodontitis. Maize (Zea mays L.) production in Northeast China is vulnerable to climate change. Thus, exploring future adaptation measures for maize is crucial to developing sustainable agriculture to ensure food security. The current study was undertaken to evaluate the impacts of climate change on maize yield and partial factor productivity of nitrogen (PFPN) and explore potential adaptation strategies in Northeast China. The Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT) model was calibrated and validated using the measurements from nine maize experiments. DSSAT performed well in simulating maize yield, biomass and N uptake for both calibration and validation periods (normalized root mean square error (nRMSE) < 10%, −5% < normalized average relative error (nARE) < 5% and index of agreement (d) > 0.8). Compared to the baseline (1980–2010), the average maize yields and PFPN would decrease by 7.6–32.1% and 3.6–14.0 kg N kg−1 respectively under future climate scenarios (2041–2070 and 2071–2100) without adaptation. Optimizing N application rate and timing, establishing rotation system with legumes, adjusting planting dates and breeding long-season cultivars could be effective adaptation strategies to climate change. This study demonstrated that optimizing agronomic crop management practices would assist to make policy development on mitigating the negative impacts of future climate change on maize production. Heterologous expression is the main approach for recombinant protein production ingenetic synthesis, for which codon optimization is necessary. The existing optimization methods are based on biological indexes. In this paper, we propose a novel codon optimization method based on deep learning. First, we introduce the concept of codon boxes, via which DNA sequences can be recoded into codon box sequences while ignoring the order of bases. Then, the problem of codon optimization can be converted to sequence annotation of corresponding amino acids with codon boxes. The codon optimization models for Escherichia Coli were trained by the Bidirectional Long-Short-Term Memory Conditional Random Field. Theoretically, deep learning is a good method to obtain the distribution characteristics of DNA. In addition to the comparison of the codon adaptation index, protein expression experiments for plasmodium falciparum candidate vaccine and polymerase acidic protein were implemented for comparison with the original sequences and the optimized sequences from Genewiz and ThermoFisher. The A(H7N9) virus strain that emerged in 2013 was associated with a high fatality rate and may become a long-term threat to public health. A(H7N9) disease incidence is disproportionate to viral exposure, suggesting that host genetic factors may significantly influence susceptibility to A(H7N9) infection. Human genome variation in conferring risk for A(H7N9) infection in Chinese populations was identified by a two-stage investigation involving 121 A(H7N9) patients and 187 healthy controls using next generation sequencing followed by functional analysis. As a result, a low frequency variant (rs189256251; P = 0.0303, OR = 3.45, 95% CI 1.05–11.35, chi-square test) and three HLA alleles (DQB1*06:01, DQA1*05:05 and C*12:02) were identified in A(H7N9) infected volunteers. In an A549 cell line carrying the rs189256251 variant CT genotype, A(H7N9) infection incidence was elevated 6.665-fold over control cells carrying the CC genotype. Serum levels of interferon alpha were significantly lower in patients with the CT genotype compared to the CC genotype (P = 0.01). Evidence regarding the association between blood lead levels (BLL) and hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) in US adults was limited. We aimed to investigate the association of BLL with the risk of HHcy, and to examine possible effect modifiers using US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. We performed a cross-sectional study using data from up to 9,331 participants aged ≥ 20 years of NHANES from 2001 to 2006. BLL was measured by atomic absorption spectrometry. HHcy was defined as plasma homocysteine level > 15 µmol/L. The weighted prevalence of HHcy was 6.87%. The overall mean BLL was 1.9 μg/dL. Overall, there was a nonlinear positive association between Ln-transformed BLL (LnBLL) and the risk of HHcy. The Odds ratios (95% CI) for participants in the second (0.04–0.49 μg/dL), third (0.5–0.95 μg/dL) and fourth quartiles (> 0.95 μg/dL) were 1.12 (95% CI: 0.71, 1.76), 1.13 (95% CI: 0.73, 1.77), and 1.67 (95% CI: 1.07, 2.61), respectively, compared with those in quartile 1. Consistently, a significantly higher risk of HHcy (OR: 1.49; 95% CI: 1.19, 1.88) was found in participants in quartile 4 compared with those in quartiles 1–3. Furthermore, a strongly positive association between LnBLL and HHcy was observed in participants with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 mL/min−1/1.73 m−2. Our results suggested that a higher level of BLL (LnBLL > 0.95 μg/dL) was associated with increased risk of HHcy compared with a lower level of BLL (LnBLL ≤ 0.95 μg/dL) among U.S. adults, and the association was modified by the eGFR. With most city dwellers in China subjected to air pollution, forecasting extreme air pollution spells is of paramount significance in both scheduling outdoor activities and ameliorating air pollution. In this paper, we integrate the autoregressive conditional duration model (ACD) with the recurrence interval analysis (RIA) and also extend the ACD model to a spatially autoregressive conditional duration (SACD) model by adding a spatially reviewed term to quantitatively explain and predict extreme air pollution recurrence intervals. Using the hourly data of six pollutants and the air quality index (AQI) during 2013-2016 collected from 12 national air quality monitoring stations in Beijing as our test samples, we attest that the spatially reviewed recurrence intervals have some general explanatory power over the recurrence intervals in the neighbouring air quality monitoring stations. We also conduct a one-step forecast using the RIA-ACD(1,1) and RIA-SACD(1,1,1) models and find that 90% of the predicted recurrence intervals are smaller than 72 hours, which justifies the predictive power of the proposed models. When applied to more time lags and neighbouring stations, the models are found to yield results that are consistent with reality, which evinces the feasibility of predicting extreme air pollution events through a recurrence-interval-analysis-based autoregressive conditional duration model. Questions remain about the significance of the dose-response relationship between body mass index (BMI) and lung cancer (LC) risk. Pertinent studies were identified through a search in EMBASE and PUBMED from July 2014 until March 2015. The summary relative risk (SRR) and confidence interval (CI) were estimated. The dose-response relationship was assessed using a restricted cubic spline. The overall meta-analysis showed evidence of a nonlinear association between BMI and LC risk (Pnonlinearity < 0.001). The SRR were 0.98 (95%CI: 0.95-1.01) for 25 kg/m2, 0.91 (95%CI: 0.85-0.98) for 30 kg/m2 and 0.81 (95% CI: 0.72-0.91) for 35 kg/m2, with mild between-study heterogeneity (I2 = 5%). The results of the stratified analysis by gender were comparable to those of the overall meta-analysis. When stratified by smoking status, linear dose-response associations were observed for current smokers, ex-smokers and non-smokers (Pnonlinearity > 0.05), whereas the effects were attenuated when restricting analysis to non-smokers, and at the point of 30 kg/m2, the SRR was 0.96 (95%CI: 0.86-1.07) for males and 0.95 (95%CI: 0.89-1.02) for females. This meta-analysis provides quantitative evidence that increasing BMI is a protective factor against LC. A single crystal-based organic light-emitting device (OLED) with intrinsically polarized and color-tunable electroluminescence (EL) has been demonstrated without any subsequent treatment. The polarization ratio of 5:1 for the transversal-electric (TE) and transversal-magnetic (TM) polarization at the emission peak of 575 nm, and 4.7:1 for the TM to TE polarization at the emission peak of 635 nm, respectively, have been obtained. The emitting color is tunable between yellow, yellow-green and orange by changing the polarization angle. The polarized EL and the polarization-induced color tunability can be attributed to the anisotropic microcavity formed by the BP3T crystal with uniaxial alignment of the molecules.
