Struvite precipitation electrolyzers are interesting environmental electrochemical reactors with potential applications for efficient phosphate recovery from wastewater, such as swine wastewater. In this paper, effects of phosphate concentration and pH on the struvite precipitation reaction rate were investigated. When phosphate concentration decreased from 100 to 20 mg/L, the precipitation reaction rate decreased from 396.65 mg/L·h to 70.46 mg/L·h, indicating that the reaction rate of struvite crystallization can be controlled by adjusting pH according to the change of phosphate concentration. Numerical simulation of different currents and flow rates on pH in the electrolyzer was developed and validated, and pH in the electrolyzer was dynamically measured along the distribution point of the flow field. We aimed to test the treatment effect of the electrolyzer on actual swine wastewater. When the flow rate was 20 L/h and constant voltage was 4 V, the electrolyzer was run continuously for 5 hours with the volume of 50 L. The phosphate recovery efficiency reached 99.51%, and the time-space yield of the struvite precipitation electrolyzer was 0.0219 kg/m2·h. The harvested struvite particles were identified by XRD and SEM-EDS, which presented orthorhombic structure and high purity. Economic analysis demonstrated that the proposed electrolyzer was cost-effective and technologically convenient.

Although microRNA-301a (miR-301a) has been reported to function as an oncogene in many human cancers, there are limited data regarding miR-301a and breast tumours. In this study, we first detected the expression of miR-301a using an in situ hybridization (ISH) -based classification system in 380 samples of BC tissue, including both non-TNBC (triple-negative breast cancer) and TNBC specimens. Our results suggest that analysing miR-301a expression in breast tissue biopsy specimens at the time of diagnosis could have the potential to identify patients who might be candidates for active surveillance. We validated our results that higher expression of miR-301a is associated with a decreased OS in independent public breast cancer databases, such as TCGA and METABRIC, using the online webtool Kaplan-Meier Plotter, which provided additional powerful evidence to confirm the prognostic value of miR-301a. MiR-301a may serve as a potential therapeutic target for patients with breast cancer. According to our results, miR-301a should be considered, and novel therapeutic options are needed to target this aggressive miR-301a-positive type of breast cancer to reduce recurrence and the mortality rate.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a heterogeneous set of hereditary eye diseases, characterized by selective death of photoreceptor cells in the retina, resulting in progressive visual impairment. Approximately 20-40% of RP cases are autosomal dominant RP (ADRP). In this study, a Chinese ADRP family previously localized to the region between D1S2819 and D1S2635 was sequenced via whole-exome sequencing and a variant c.1345C G (p.R449G) was identified in PRPF3. The Sanger sequencing was performed in probands of additional 95 Chinese ADRP families to investigate the contribution of PRPF3 to ADRP in Chinese population and another variant c.1532A C (p.H511P) was detected in one family. These two variants, co-segregate with RP in two families respectively and both variants are predicted to be pathological. This is the first report about the spectrum of PRPF3 mutations in Chinese population, leading to the identification of two novel PRPF3 mutations. Only three clustered mutations in PRPF3 have been identified so far in several populations and all are in exon 11. Our study expands the spectrum of PRPF3 mutations in RP. We also demonstrate that PRPF3 mutations are responsible for 2.08% of ADRP families in this cohort indicating that PRPF3 mutations might be relatively rare in Chinese ADRP patients.
