Tool condition monitoring technology is an indispensable part of intelligent manufacturing. Most current research focuses on complex signal processing techniques or advanced deep learning algorithms to improve prediction performance without fully leveraging the end-to-end advantages of deep learning. The challenge lies in transforming multi-sensor raw data into input data suitable for direct model feeding, all while minimizing data scale and preserving sufficient temporal interpretation of tool wear. However, there is no clear reference standard for this so far. In light of this, this paper innovatively explores the processing methods that transform raw data into input data for deep learning models, a process known as an input paradigm. This paper introduces three new input paradigms: the downsampling paradigm, the periodic paradigm, and the subsequence paradigm. Then an improved hybrid model that combines a convolutional neural network (CNN) and bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) was employed to validate the model's performance. The subsequence paradigm demonstrated considerable superiority in prediction results based on the PHM2010 dataset, as the newly generated time series maintained the integrity of the raw data. Further investigation revealed that, with 120 subsequences and the temporal indicator being the maximum value, the model's mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE) were the lowest after threefold cross-validation, outperforming several classical and contemporary methods. Sugarcane is an important raw material for sugar and chemical production. However, in recent years, various sugarcane diseases have emerged, severely impacting the national economy. To address the issue of identifying diseases in sugarcane leaf sections, this paper proposes the SE-VIT hybrid network. Unlike traditional methods that directly use models for classification, this paper compares threshold, K-means, and support vector machine (SVM) algorithms for extracting leaf lesions from images. Due to SVM's ability to accurately segment these lesions, it is ultimately selected for the task. The paper introduces the SE attention module into ResNet-18 (CNN), enhancing the learning of inter-channel weights. After the pooling layer, multi-head self-attention (MHSA) is incorporated. Finally, with the inclusion of 2D relative positional encoding, the accuracy is improved by 5.1%, precision by 3.23%, and recall by 5.17%. The SE-VIT hybrid network model achieves an accuracy of 97.26% on the PlantVillage dataset. Additionally, when compared to four existing classical neural network models, SE-VIT demonstrates significantly higher accuracy and precision, reaching 89.57% accuracy. Understanding road conditions is essential for implementing effective road safety measures and driving solutions. Road situations encompass the day-to-day conditions of roads, including the presence of vehicles and pedestrians. Surveillance cameras strategically placed along streets have been instrumental in monitoring road situations and providing valuable information on pedestrians, moving vehicles, and objects within road environments. However, these video data and information are stored in large volumes, making analysis tedious and time-consuming. Deep learning models are increasingly utilized to monitor vehicles and identify and evaluate road and driving comfort situations. However, the current neural network model requires the recognition of situations using time-series video data. In this paper, we introduced a multi-directional detection model for road situations to uphold high accuracy. Deep learning methods often integrate long short-term memory (LSTM) into long-term recurrent network architectures. This approach effectively combines recurrent neural networks to capture temporal dependencies and convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to extract features from extensive video data. In our proposed method, we form a multi-directional long-term recurrent convolutional network approach with two groups equipped with CNN and two layers of LSTM. Additionally, we compare road situation recognition using convolutional neural networks, long short-term networks, and long-term recurrent convolutional networks. The paper presents a method for detecting and recognizing multi-directional road contexts using a modified LRCN. The ball screw is the core component of the CNC machine tool feed system, and its health plays an important role in the feed system and even in the entire CNC machine tool. This paper studies the fault diagnosis and health assessment of ball screws. Aiming at the problem that the ball screw signal is weak and susceptible to interference, using a wavelet convolution structure to improve the network can improve the mining ability of signal time domain and frequency domain features; aiming at the challenge of ball screw sensor installation position limitation, a transfer learning method is proposed, which adopts the domain adaptation method as jointly distributed adaptation (JDA), and realizes the transfer diagnosis across measurement positions by extracting the diagnosis knowledge of different positions of the ball screw. In this paper, the adaptive batch normalization algorithm (AdaBN) is introduced to enhance the proposed model so as to improve the accuracy of migration diagnosis. Experiments were carried out using a self-made lead screw fatigue test bench. Through experimental verification, the method proposed in this paper can extract effective fault diagnosis knowledge. By collecting data under different working conditions at the bearing seat of the ball screw, the fault diagnosis knowledge is extracted and used to identify and diagnose the position fault of the nut seat. Seawater density is an important physical property in oceanography that affects the accuracy of calculations such as gravity fields and tidal potentials and the calibration of acoustic and optical oceanographic sensors. In related studies, constant density values are frequently used, which can introduce significant errors. Therefore, this study employs a basic convolutional neural network model to construct a comprehensive model showing the seawater density distribution across the globe. The model takes into account depth, latitude, longitude, and month as inputs. Numerous real seawater datasets were used to train the model, and it has been shown that the model has an absolute mean error and root mean square error of less than 1 kg/m3 in 99% of the test set samples. The model effectively demonstrates the influence of input parameters on the distribution of seawater density. In this paper, we present a newly developed global model for distributing seawater density which is both comprehensive and accurate, surpassing previous models. The utilization of the model presented in this paper for estimating seawater density can minimize errors in theoretical ocean models and serve as a foundation for designing and analyzing ocean exploration systems. The purpose of image dehazing is to remove the interference from weather factors in degraded images and enhance the clarity and color saturation of images to maximize the restoration of useful features. Single image dehazing is one of the most important tasks in the field of image restoration. In recent years, due to the progress of deep learning, single image dehazing has made great progress. With the success of Transformer in advanced computer vision tasks, some research studies also began to apply Transformer to image dehazing tasks and obtained surprising results. However, both the deconvolution-neural-network-based dehazing algorithm and Transformer based dehazing algorithm magnify their advantages and disadvantages separately. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel Transformer–Convolution fusion dehazing network (TCFDN), which uses Transformer's global modeling ability and convolutional neural network's local modeling ability to improve the dehazing ability. In the Transformer–Convolution fusion dehazing network, the classic self-encoder structure is used. This paper proposes a Transformer–Convolution hybrid layer, which uses an adaptive fusion strategy to make full use of the Swin-Transformer and convolutional neural network to extract and reconstruct image features. On the basis of previous research, this layer further improves the ability of the network to remove haze. Fault diagnosis is one of the important applications of edge computing in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). To address the issue that traditional fault diagnosis methods often struggle to effectively extract fault features, this paper proposes a novel rolling bearing fault diagnosis method that integrates Gramian Angular Field (GAF), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Vision Transformer (ViT). First, GAF is used to convert one-dimensional vibration signals from sensors into two-dimensional images, effectively retaining the fault features of the vibration signal. Then, the CNN branch is used to extract the local features of the image, which are combined with the global features extracted by the ViT branch to diagnose the bearing fault. The effectiveness of this method is validated with two datasets. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves average accuracies of 99.79% and 99.63% on the CWRU and XJTU-SY rolling bearing fault datasets, respectively. Compared with several widely used fault diagnosis methods, the proposed method achieves higher accuracy for different fault classifications, providing reliable technical support for performing complex fault diagnosis on edge devices. The precision of short-term photovoltaic power forecasts is of utmost importance for the planning and operation of the electrical grid system. To enhance the precision of short-term output power prediction in photovoltaic systems, this paper proposes a method integrating K-means clustering: an improved snake optimization algorithm with a convolutional neural network–bidirectional long short-term memory network to predict short-term photovoltaic power. Firstly, K-means clustering is utilized to categorize weather scenarios into three categories: sunny, cloudy, and rainy. The Pearson correlation coefficient method is then utilized to determine the inputs of the model. Secondly, the snake optimization algorithm is improved by introducing Tent chaotic mapping, lens imaging backward learning, and an optimal individual adaptive perturbation strategy to enhance its optimization ability. Then, the multi-strategy improved snake optimization algorithm is employed to optimize the parameters of the convolutional neural network–bidirectional long short-term memory network model, thereby augmenting the predictive precision of the model. Finally, the model established in this paper is utilized to forecast photovoltaic power in diverse weather scenarios. The simulation findings indicate that the regression coefficients of this method can reach 0.99216, 0.95772, and 0.93163 on sunny, cloudy, and rainy days, which has better prediction precision and adaptability under various weather conditions. Radio frequency interference (RFI) significantly hampers the target detection performance of frequency-modulated continuous-wave radar. To address the problem and maintain the target echo signal, this paper proposes a priori assumption on the interference component nature in the radar received signal, as well as a method for interference estimation and mitigation via time–frequency analysis. The solution employs Fourier synchrosqueezed transform to implement the radar's beat signal transformation from time domain to time–frequency domain, thus converting the interference mitigation to the task of time–frequency distribution image restoration. The solution proposes the use of image processing based on the dual-tree complex wavelet transform and combines it with the spatial domain-based approach, thereby establishing a dual-domain fusion interference filter for time–frequency distribution images. Accurate damage location diagnosis of frame structures is of great significance to the judgment of damage degree and subsequent maintenance of frame structures. However, the similarity characteristics of vibration data at different damage locations and noise interference bring great challenges. In order to overcome the above problems and realize accurate damage location diagnosis of the frame structure, the existing convolutional neural network with training interference (TICNN) is improved in this paper, and a high-precision neural network model named convolutional neural network based on Inception (BICNN) for fault diagnosis with strong anti-noise ability is proposed by adding the Inception module to TICNN. In order to effectively avoid the overall misjudgment problem caused by using single sensor data for damage location diagnosis, an integrated damage location diagnosis method is proposed. Taking the four-story steel frame model of the University of British Columbia as the research object, the method proposed in this paper is tested and compared with other methods. The experimental results show that the diagnosis accuracy of the proposed method is 97.38%, which is higher than other methods; at the same time, it has greater advantages in noise resistance. Therefore, the method proposed in this paper not only has high accuracy, but also has strong anti-noise ability, which can solve the problem of accurate damage location diagnosis of complex frame structures under a strong noise environment. The Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is one of the widely used deep learning models that offers the chance to boost farming productivity through autonomous inference of field conditions. In this paper, CNN is connected to a Support Vector Machine (SVM) to form a new model CNN-SVM; the CNN models chosen are ResNet-50 and VGG16 and the CNN-SVM models formed are ResNet-50-SVM and VGG16-SVM. The method consists of two parts: ResNet-50 and VGG16 for feature extraction and SVM for classification. This paper uses the public multi-class weeds dataset DeepWeeds for training and testing. The proposed ResNet-50-SVM and VGG16-SVM approaches achieved 97.6% and 95.9% recognition accuracies on the DeepWeeds dataset, respectively. The state-of-the-art networks (VGG16, ResNet-50, GoogLeNet, Densenet-121, and PSO-CNN) with the same dataset are accurate at 93.2%, 96.1%, 93.6%, 94.3%, and 96.9%, respectively. In comparison, the accuracy of the proposed methods has been improved by 1.5% and 2.7%, respectively. The extensive use of corrugated board in the packaging industry is attributed to its excellent cushioning, mechanical properties, and environmental benefits like recyclability and biodegradability. The integrity of corrugated board depends on various factors, including its geometric design, paper quality, the number of layers, and environmental conditions such as humidity and temperature. This study introduces an innovative application of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for analyzing and classifying images of corrugated boards, particularly those with deformations. For this purpose, a special device with advanced imaging capabilities, including a high-resolution camera and image sensor, was developed and used to acquire detailed cross-section images of the corrugated boards. The samples of seven types of corrugated board were studied. The proposed approach involves optimizing CNNs to enhance their classification performance. Despite challenges posed by deformed samples, the methodology demonstrates high accuracy in most cases, though a few samples posed recognition difficulties. The findings of this research are significant for the packaging industry, offering a sophisticated method for quality control and defect detection in corrugated board production. Hand gesture recognition, which is one of the fields of human–computer interaction (HCI) research, extracts the user's pattern using sensors. Radio detection and ranging (RADAR) sensors are robust under severe environments and convenient to use for hand gestures. The existing studies mostly adopted continuous-wave (CW) radar, which only shows a good performance at a fixed distance, which is due to its limitation of not seeing the distance. This paper proposes a hand gesture recognition system that utilizes frequency-shift keying (FSK) radar, allowing for a recognition method that can work at the various distances between a radar sensor and a user. The proposed system adopts a convolutional neural network (CNN) model for the recognition. Falls among the elderly are a common and serious health risk that can lead to physical injuries and other complications. To promptly detect and respond to fall events, radar-based fall detection systems have gained widespread attention. In this paper, a deep learning model is proposed based on the frequency spectrum of radar signals, called the convolutional bidirectional long short-term memory (CB-LSTM) model. The introduction of the CB-LSTM model enables the fall detection system to capture both temporal sequential and spatial features simultaneously, thereby enhancing the accuracy and reliability of the detection. Extensive comparison experiments demonstrate that our model achieves an accuracy of 98.83% in detecting falls, surpassing other relevant methods currently available. With the rapid advancement of the Internet of Things, network security has garnered increasing attention from researchers. Applying deep learning (DL) has significantly enhanced the performance of Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDSs). However, due to its complexity and "black box" problem, deploying DL-based NIDS models in practical scenarios poses several challenges, including model interpretability and being lightweight. Feature selection (FS) in DL models plays a crucial role in minimizing model parameters and decreasing computational overheads while enhancing NIDS performance. Hence, selecting effective features remains a pivotal concern for NIDSs. In light of this, this paper proposes an interpretable feature selection method for encrypted traffic intrusion detection based on SHAP and causality principles. This approach utilizes the results of model interpretation for feature selection to reduce feature count while ensuring model reliability. We evaluate and validate our proposed method on two public network traffic datasets, CICIDS2017 and NSL-KDD, employing both a CNN and a random forest (RF). Low-light images are prevalent in intelligent monitoring and many other applications, with low brightness hindering further processing. Although low-light image enhancement can reduce the influence of such problems, current methods often involve a complex network structure or many iterations, which are not conducive to their efficiency. This paper proposes a Zero-Reference Camera Response Network using a camera response model to achieve efficient enhancement for arbitrary low-light images. A double-layer parameter-generating network with a streamlined structure is established to extract the exposure ratio K from the radiation map, which is obtained by inverting the input through a camera response function. Then, K is used as the parameter of a brightness transformation function for one transformation on the low-light image to realize enhancement. In addition, a contrast-preserving brightness loss and an edge-preserving smoothness loss are designed without the requirement for references from the dataset. Both can further retain some key information in the inputs to improve precision. The enhancement is simplified and can reach more than twice the speed of similar methods. In this paper, artificial intelligence (AI) technology is applied to the electromagnetic imaging of anisotropic objects. Advances in magnetic anomaly sensing systems and electromagnetic imaging use electromagnetic principles to detect and characterize subsurface or hidden objects. We use measured multifrequency scattered fields to calculate the initial dielectric constant distribution of anisotropic objects through the backpropagation scheme (BPS). Later, the estimated multifrequency permittivity distribution is input to a convolutional neural network (CNN) for the adaptive moment estimation (ADAM) method to reconstruct a more accurate image. In the meantime, we also improve the definition of loss function in the CNN. Numerical results show that the improved loss function unifying the structural similarity index measure (SSIM) and root mean square error (RMSE) can effectively enhance image quality. In our simulation environment, noise interference is considered for both TE (transverse electric) and TM (transverse magnetic) waves to reconstruct anisotropic scatterers. Dunes are the primary geomorphological type in deserts, and the distribution of dune morphologies is of significant importance for studying regional characteristics, formation mechanisms, and evolutionary processes. Traditional dune morphology classification methods rely on visual interpretation by humans, which is not only time-consuming and inefficient but also subjective in classification judgment. These issues have impeded the intelligent development of dune morphology classification. However, convolutional neural network (CNN) models exhibit robust feature representation capabilities for images and have achieved excellent results in image classification, providing a new method for studying dune morphology classification. Therefore, this paper summarizes five typical dune morphologies in the deserts of western Inner Mongolia, which can be used to define and describe most of the dune types in Chinese deserts. Subsequently, field surveys and the experimental collection of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) orthoimages for different dune types were conducted. Five different types of dune morphology datasets were constructed through manual segmentation, automatic rule segmentation, random screening, and data augmentation. Finally, the classification of dune morphologies and the exploration of dataset construction methods were conducted using the VGG16 and VGG19 CNN models. The classification results of dune morphologies were comprehensively analyzed using different evaluation metrics. The experimental results indicate that when the regular segmentation scale of UAV orthoimages is 1024 × 1024 pixels with an overlap of 100 pixels, the classification accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-Score of the VGG16 model reached 97.05%, 96.91%, 96.76%, and 96.82%, respectively. The method for constructing a dune morphology dataset from automatically segmented UAV orthoimages provides a reference value for the study of large-scale dune morphology classification. The vulnerability of modern neural networks to random noise and deliberate attacks has raised concerns about their robustness, particularly as they are increasingly utilized in safety- and security-critical applications. Although recent research efforts were made to enhance robustness through retraining with adversarial examples or employing data augmentation techniques, a comprehensive investigation into the effects of training data perturbations on model robustness remains lacking. This paper presents the first extensive empirical study investigating the influence of data perturbations during model retraining. The experimental analysis focuses on both random and adversarial robustness, following established practices in the field of robustness analysis. Various types of perturbations in different aspects of the dataset are explored, including input, label, and sampling distribution. Single-factor and multi-factor experiments are conducted to assess individual perturbations and their combinations. The findings provide insights into constructing high-quality training datasets for optimizing robustness and recommend the appropriate degree of training set perturbations that balance robustness and correctness, and contribute to understanding model robustness in deep learning and offer practical guidance for enhancing model performance through perturbed retraining, promoting the development of more reliable and trustworthy deep learning systems for safety-critical applications. With the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoT), the sophistication and intelligence of sensors are continually evolving, playing increasingly important roles in smart homes, industrial automation, and remote healthcare. However, these intelligent sensors face many security threats, particularly from malware attacks. Identifying and classifying malware is crucial for preventing such attacks. As the number of sensors and their applications grow, malware targeting sensors proliferates. Processing massive malware samples is challenging due to limited bandwidth and resources in IoT environments. Therefore, compressing malware samples before transmission and classification can improve efficiency. Additionally, sharing malware samples between classification participants poses security risks, necessitating methods that prevent sample exploitation. Moreover, the complex network environments also necessitate robust classification methods. To address these challenges, this paper proposes CSMC (Compressed Sensing Malware Classification), an efficient malware classification method based on compressed sensing. This method compresses malware samples before sharing and classification, thus facilitating more effective sharing and processing. By introducing deep learning, the method can extract malware family features during compression, which classical methods cannot achieve. Furthermore, the irreversibility of the method enhances security by preventing classification participants from exploiting malware samples. Experimental results demonstrate that for malware targeting Windows and Android operating systems, CSMC outperforms many existing methods based on compressed sensing and machine or deep learning. Partially automated robotic systems, such as camera holders, represent a pivotal step towards enhancing efficiency and precision in surgical procedures. Therefore, this paper introduces an approach for real-time tool localization in laparoscopy surgery using convolutional neural networks. The proposed model, based on two Hourglass modules in series, can localize up to two surgical tools simultaneously. This study utilized three datasets: the ITAP dataset, alongside two publicly available datasets, namely Atlas Dione and EndoVis Challenge. Three variations of the Hourglass-based models were proposed, with the best model achieving high accuracy (92.86%) and frame rates (27.64 FPS), suitable for integration into robotic systems. An evaluation on an independent test set yielded slightly lower accuracy, indicating limited generalizability. The model was further analyzed using the Grad-CAM technique to gain insights into its functionality. Aiming to address the issues of missing detailed information, the blurring of significant target information, and poor visual effects in current image fusion algorithms, this paper proposes an infrared and visible-light image fusion algorithm based on discrete wavelet transform and convolutional neural networks. Our backbone network is an autoencoder. A DWT layer is embedded in the encoder to optimize frequency-domain feature extraction and prevent information loss, and a bottleneck residual block and a coordinate attention mechanism are introduced to enhance the ability to capture and characterize the low- and high-frequency feature information; an IDWT layer is embedded in the decoder to achieve the feature reconstruction of the fused frequencies; the fusion strategy adopts the l 1 − n o r m fusion strategy to integrate the encoder's output frequency mapping features; a weighted loss containing pixel loss, gradient loss, and structural loss is constructed for optimizing network training. DWT decomposes the image into sub-bands at different scales, including low-frequency sub-bands and high-frequency sub-bands. The low-frequency sub-bands contain the structural information of the image, which corresponds to the important target information, while the high-frequency sub-bands contain the detail information, such as edge and texture information. Through IDWT, the low-frequency sub-bands that contain important target information are synthesized with the high-frequency sub-bands that enhance the details, ensuring that the important target information and texture details are clearly visible in the reconstructed image. The whole process is able to reconstruct the information of different frequency sub-bands back into the image non-destructively, so that the fused image appears natural and harmonious visually. Experimental results on public datasets show that the fusion algorithm performs well according to both subjective and objective evaluation criteria and that the fused image is clearer and contains more scene information, which verifies the effectiveness of the algorithm, and the results of the generalization experiments also show that our network has good generalization ability. Under the condition of low signal-to-noise ratio, the target detection performance of radar decreases, which seriously affects the tracking and recognition for the long-range small targets. To solve it, this paper proposes a target detection algorithm using convolutional neural network to process graphically expressed range time series signals. First, the two-dimensional echo signal was processed graphically. Second, the graphical echo signal was detected by the improved convolutional neural network. Traditional methods of gearbox fault diagnosis rely heavily on manual experience. To address this problem, our study proposes a gearbox fault diagnosis method based on multidomain information fusion. An experimental platform consisting of a JZQ250 fixed-axis gearbox was built. An acceleration sensor was used to obtain the vibration signal of the gearbox. Singular value decomposition (SVD) was used to preprocess the signal in order to reduce noise, and the processed vibration signal was subjected to short-time Fourier transform to obtain a two-dimensional time–frequency map. A multidomain information fusion convolutional neural network (CNN) model was constructed. Channel 1 was a one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1DCNN) model that input a one-dimensional vibration signal, and channel 2 was a two-dimensional convolutional neural network (2DCNN) model that input short-time Fourier transform (STFT) time–frequency images. The feature vectors extracted using the two channels were then fused into feature vectors for input into the classification model. Finally, support vector machines (SVM) were used to identify and classify the fault types. The model training performance used multiple methods: training set, verification set, loss curve, accuracy curve and t-SNE visualization (t-SNE). Through experimental verification, the method proposed in this paper was compared with FFT-2DCNN, 1DCNN-SVM and 2DCNN-SVM in terms of gearbox fault recognition performance. Continuous efforts were made in detecting cracks in images. Varied CNN models were developed and tested for detecting or segmenting crack regions. However, most datasets used in previous works contained clearly distinctive crack images. No previous methods were validated on blurry cracks captured in low definitions. Therefore, this paper presented a framework of detecting the regions of blurred, indistinct concrete cracks. The framework divides an image into small square patches which are classified into crack or non-crack. Well-known CNN models were employed for the classification and compared with each other with experimental tests. This paper also elaborated on critical factors—the patch size and the way of labeling patches—which had considerable influences on the training performance. Furthermore, a series of post-processes for measuring crack lengths were introduced. With the advancement of neural networks, more and more neural networks are being applied to structural health monitoring systems (SHMSs). When an SHMS requires the integration of numerous neural networks, high-performance and low-latency networks are favored. This paper focuses on damage detection based on vibration signals. In contrast to traditional neural network approaches, this study utilizes a stochastic configuration network (SCN). An SCN is an incrementally learning network that randomly configures appropriate neurons based on data and errors. It is an emerging neural network that does not require predefined network structures and is not based on gradient descent. While SCNs dynamically define the network structure, they essentially function as fully connected neural networks that fail to capture the temporal properties of monitoring data effectively. Moreover, they suffer from inference time and computational cost issues. To enable faster and more accurate operation within the monitoring system, this paper introduces a stochastic convolutional feature extraction approach that does not rely on backpropagation. Additionally, a random node deletion algorithm is proposed to automatically prune redundant neurons in SCNs, addressing the issue of network node redundancy. Experimental results demonstrate that the feature extraction method improves accuracy by 30% compared to the original SCN, and the random node deletion algorithm removes approximately 10% of neurons. Body condition scoring is an objective scoring method used to evaluate the health of a cow by determining the amount of subcutaneous fat in a cow. Automated body condition scoring is becoming vital to large commercial dairy farms as it helps farmers score their cows more often and more consistently compared to manual scoring. A common approach to automated body condition scoring is to utilise a CNN-based model trained with data from a depth camera. The approaches presented in this paper make use of three depth cameras placed at different positions near the rear of a cow to train three independent CNNs. Ensemble modelling is used to combine the estimations of the three individual CNN models. The paper aims to test the performance impact of using ensemble modelling with the data from three separate depth cameras. The paper also looks at which of these three cameras and combinations thereof provide a good balance between computational cost and performance. The results of this study show that utilising the data from three depth cameras to train three separate models merged through ensemble modelling yields significantly improved automated body condition scoring accuracy compared to a single-depth camera and CNN model approach. The method of acoustic radiation signal detection not only enables contactless measurement but also provides comprehensive state information during equipment operation. This paper proposes an enhanced feature extraction network (EFEN) for fault diagnosis of rolling bearings based on acoustic signal feature learning. The EFEN network comprises four main components: the data preprocessing module, the information feature selection module (IFSM), the channel attention mechanism module (CAMM), and the convolutional neural network module (CNNM). Firstly, the one-dimensional acoustic signal is transformed into a two-dimensional grayscale image. Then, IFSM utilizes three different-sized convolution filters to process input image data and fuse and assign weights to feature information that can attenuate noise while highlighting effective fault information. Next, a channel attention mechanism module is introduced to assign weights to each channel. Finally, the convolutional neural network (CNN) fault diagnosis module is employed for accurate classification of rolling bearing faults. Experimental results demonstrate that the EFEN network achieves high accuracy in fault diagnosis and effectively detects rolling bearing faults based on acoustic signals. The proposed method achieves an accuracy of 98.52%, surpassing other methods in terms of performance. In comparative analysis of antinoise experiments, the average accuracy remains remarkably high at 96.62%, accompanied by a significantly reduced average iteration time of only 0.25 s. The application of edge computing combined with the Internet of Things (edge-IoT) has been rapidly developed. It is of great significance to develop a lightweight network for gearbox compound fault diagnosis in the edge-IoT context. The goal of this paper is to devise a novel and high-accuracy lightweight neural network based on Legendre multiwavelet transform and multi-channel convolutional neural network (LMWT-MCNN) to fast recognize various compound fault categories of gearbox. The contributions of this paper mainly lie in three aspects: The feature images are designed based on the LMWT frequency domain and they are easily implemented in the MCNN model to effectively avoid noise interference. The proposed lightweight model only consists of three convolutional layers and three pooling layers to further extract the most valuable fault features without any artificial feature extraction. In a fully connected layer, the specific fault type of rotating machinery is identified by the multi-label method. This paper provides a promising technique for rotating machinery fault diagnosis in real applications based on edge-IoT, which can largely reduce labor costs. Finally, the PHM 2009 gearbox and Paderborn University bearing compound fault datasets are used to verify the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method. In recent years, research on emotion recognition has become more and more popular, but there are few studies on emotion recognition based on cerebral blood oxygen signals. Since the electroencephalogram (EEG) is easily disturbed by eye movement and the portability is not high, this study uses a more comfortable and convenient functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) system to record brain signals from participants while watching three different types of video clips. During the experiment, the changes in cerebral blood oxygen concentration in the 8 channels of the prefrontal cortex of the brain were collected and analyzed. We processed and divided the collected cerebral blood oxygen data, and used multiple classifiers to realize the identification of the three emotional states of joy, neutrality, and sadness. Since the classification accuracy of the convolutional neural network (CNN) in this research is not significantly superior to that of the XGBoost algorithm, this paper proposes a CNN-Transformer network based on the characteristics of time series data to improve the classification accuracy of ternary emotions. The network first uses convolution operations to extract channel features from multi-channel time series, then the features and the output information of the fully connected layer are input to the Transformer netork structure, and its multi-head attention mechanism is used to focus on different channel domain information, which has better spatiality. The experimental results show that the CNN-Transformer network can achieve 86.7% classification accuracy for ternary emotions, which is about 5% higher than the accuracy of CNN, and this provides some help for other research in the field of emotion recognition based on time series data such as fNIRS. Retinal vessel segmentation is extremely important for risk prediction and treatment of many major diseases. Therefore, accurate segmentation of blood vessel features from retinal images can help assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment. Convolutional neural networks are good at extracting local feature information, but the convolutional block receptive field is limited. Transformer, on the other hand, performs well in modeling long-distance dependencies. Therefore, in this paper, a new network model MTPA_Unet is designed from the perspective of extracting connections between local detailed features and making complements using long-distance dependency information, which is applied to the retinal vessel segmentation task. MTPA_Unet uses multi-resolution image input to enable the network to extract information at different levels. The proposed TPA module not only captures long-distance dependencies, but also focuses on the location information of the vessel pixels to facilitate capillary segmentation. The Transformer is combined with the convolutional neural network in a serial approach, and the original MSA module is replaced by the TPA module to achieve finer segmentation. Finally, the network model is evaluated and analyzed on three recognized retinal image datasets DRIVE, CHASE DB1, and STARE. The evaluation metrics were 0.9718, 0.9762, and 0.9773 for accuracy; 0.8410, 0.8437, and 0.8938 for sensitivity; and 0.8318, 0.8164, and 0.8557 for Dice coefficient. Emotions significantly impact human physical and mental health, and, therefore, emotion recognition has been a popular research area in neuroscience, psychology, and medicine. In this paper, we preprocess the raw signals acquired by millimeter-wave radar to obtain high-quality heartbeat and respiration signals. Then, we propose a deep learning model incorporating a convolutional neural network and gated recurrent unit neural network in combination with human face expression images. The model achieves a recognition accuracy of 84.5% in person-dependent experiments and 74.25% in person-independent experiments. In this paper, we propose a lightweight U-net architecture neural network model based on Dark Channel Prior (DCP) for efficient haze (fog) removal with a single input. The existing DCP requires high computational complexity in its operation. These computations are challenging to accelerate, and the problem is exacerbated when dealing with high-resolution images (videos), making it very difficult to apply to general-purpose applications. Our proposed model addresses this issue by employing a two-stage neural network structure, replacing the computationally complex operations of the conventional DCP with easily accelerated convolution operations to achieve high-quality fog removal. Furthermore, our proposed model is designed with an intuitive structure using a relatively small number of parameters (2M), utilizing resources efficiently. These features demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed model for fog removal. The experimental results show that the proposed neural network model achieves an average Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) of 26.65 dB and a Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM) of 0.88, indicating an improvement in the average PSNR of 11.5 dB and in SSIM of 0.22 compared to the conventional DCP. This shows that the proposed neural network achieves comparable results to CNN-based neural networks that have achieved SOTA-class performance, despite its intuitive structure with a relatively small number of parameters. Preprocessing plays a key role in Raman spectral analysis. However, classical preprocessing algorithms often have issues with reducing Raman peak intensities and changing the peak shape when processing spectra. This paper introduces a unified solution for preprocessing based on a convolutional autoencoder to enhance Raman spectroscopy data. One is a denoising algorithm that uses a convolutional denoising autoencoder (CDAE model), and the other is a baseline correction algorithm based on a convolutional autoencoder (CAE+ model). The CDAE model incorporates two additional convolutional layers in its bottleneck layer for enhanced noise reduction. The CAE+ model not only adds convolutional layers at the bottleneck but also includes a comparison function after the decoding for effective baseline correction. The proposed models were validated using both simulated spectra and experimental spectra measured with a Raman spectrometer system. In recent years, most research on bearing fault diagnosis has assumed that the source domain and target domain data come from the same machine. The differences in equipment lead to a decrease in diagnostic accuracy. To address this issue, unsupervised domain adaptation techniques have been introduced. However, most cross-device fault diagnosis models overlook the discriminative information under the marginal distribution, which restricts the performance of the models. In this paper, we propose a bearing fault diagnosis method based on envelope spectrum and conditional metric learning. First, envelope spectral analysis is used to extract frequency domain features. Then, to fully utilize the discriminative information from the label distribution, we construct a deep Siamese convolutional neural network based on conditional metric learning to eliminate the data distribution differences and extract common features from the source and target domain data. Finally, dynamic weighting factors are employed to improve the convergence performance of the model and optimize the training process. Experimental analysis is conducted on 12 cross-device tasks and compared with other relevant methods. Long-staple cotton from Xinjiang is renowned for its exceptional quality. However, it is susceptible to contamination with plastic film during mechanical picking. To address the issue of tricky removal of film in seed cotton, a technique based on hyperspectral images and AlexNet-PCA is proposed to identify the colorless and transparent film of the seed cotton. The method consists of black and white correction of hyperspectral images, dimensionality reduction of hyperspectral data, and training and testing of convolutional neural network (CNN) models. The key technique is to find the optimal way to reduce the dimensionality of the hyperspectral data, thus reducing the computational cost. The biggest innovation of the paper is the combination of CNNs and dimensionality reduction methods to achieve high-precision intelligent recognition of transparent plastic films. Experiments with three dimensionality reduction methods and three CNN architectures are conducted to seek the optimal model for plastic film recognition. The results demonstrate that AlexNet-PCA-12 achieves the highest recognition accuracy and cost performance in dimensionality reduction. In the practical application sorting tests, the method proposed in this paper achieved a 97.02% removal rate of plastic film, which provides a modern theoretical model and effective method for high-precision identification of heteropolymers in seed cotton. The quality of rolling bearings is vital for the working state and rotation accuracy of the shaft. Timely and accurately acquiring bearing status and early fault diagnosis can effectively prevent losses, making it highly practical. To improve the accuracy of bearing fault diagnosis, this paper proposes a CNN-LSTM bearing fault diagnosis model optimized by hybrid particle swarm optimization (HPSO). The HPSO algorithm has a strong global optimization ability and can effectively solve nonlinear and multivariate optimization problems. It is used to optimize and match the parameters of the CNN-LSTM model and dynamically find the optimal value of the parameters. This model overcomes the problem that the parameters of the CNN-LSTM model depend on empirical settings and cannot be adjusted dynamically. This model is used for bearing fault diagnosis, and the accuracy rate of fault diagnosis classification reaches 99.2%. Compared with the traditional CNN, LSTM, and CNN-LSTM models, the accuracy rates are increased by 6.6%, 9.2%, and 5%, respectively. At the same time, comparing the models with different optimization parameters shows that the model proposed in this paper has the highest accuracy. Over the past decade, deep learning (DL) has been applied in a large number of optical sensors applications. DL algorithms can improve the accuracy and reduce the noise level in optical sensors. Due to its capacity to gather vast, high-level data about human activity from wearable or stationary sensors, human activity recognition substantially impacts people's day-to-day lives. Multiple people and things may be seen acting in the video, dispersed throughout the frame in various places. Because of this, modeling the interactions between many entities in spatial dimensions is necessary for visual reasoning in the action recognition task. The main aim of this paper is to evaluate and map the current scenario of human actions in red, green, and blue videos, based on deep learning models. A residual network (ResNet) and a vision transformer architecture (ViT) with a semi-supervised learning approach are evaluated. The DINO (self-DIstillation with NO labels) is used to enhance the potential of the ResNet and ViT. The evaluated benchmark is the human motion database (HMDB51), which tries to better capture the richness and complexity of human actions. The obtained results for video classification with the proposed ViT are promising based on performance metrics and results from the recent literature. The results obtained using a bi-dimensional ViT with long short-term memory demonstrated great performance in human action recognition when applied to the HMDB51 dataset. The mentioned architecture presented 96.7 ± 0.35% and 41.0 ± 0.27% in terms of accuracy (mean ± standard deviation values) in the train and test phases of the HMDB51 dataset, respectively. This paper reports a study that aims to solve the problem of the weak adaptability to angle transformation of current monocular depth estimation algorithms. These algorithms are based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) but produce results lacking in estimation accuracy and robustness. The paper proposes a lightweight network based on convolution and capsule feature fusion (CNNapsule). First, the paper introduces a fusion block module that integrates CNN features and matrix capsule features to improve the adaptability of the network to perspective transformations. The fusion and deconvolution features are fused through skip connections to generate a depth image. In addition, the corresponding loss function is designed according to the long-tail distribution, gradient similarity, and structural similarity of the datasets. Finally, the results are compared with the methods applied to the NYU Depth V2 and KITTI datasets and show that our proposed method has better accuracy on the C1 and C2 indices and a better visual effect than traditional methods and deep learning methods without transfer learning. The number of trainable parameters required by this method is 65% lower than that required by methods presented in the literature. Speech is a complex mechanism allowing us to communicate our needs, desires and thoughts. In some cases of neural dysfunctions, this ability is highly affected, which makes everyday life activities that require communication a challenge. This paper studies different parameters of an intelligent imaginary speech recognition system to obtain the best performance according to the developed method that can be applied to a low-cost system with limited resources. In developing the system, we used signals from the Kara One database containing recordings acquired for seven phonemes and four words. We used in the feature extraction stage a method based on covariance in the frequency domain that performed better compared to the other time-domain methods. Further, we observed the system performance when using different window lengths for the input signal (0.25 s, 0.5 s and 1 s) to highlight the importance of the short-term analysis of the signals for imaginary speech. The final goal being the development of a low-cost system, we studied several architectures of convolutional neural networks (CNN) and showed that a more complex architecture does not necessarily lead to better results. Our study was conducted on eight different subjects, and it is meant to be a subject's shared system. The best performance reported in this paper is up to 37% accuracy for all 11 different phonemes and words when using cross-covariance computed over the signal spectrum of a 0.25 s window and a CNN containing two convolutional layers with 64 and 128 filters connected to a dense layer with 64 neurons. COVID-19 analysis from medical imaging is an important task that has been intensively studied in the last years due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, medical imaging has often been used as a complementary or main tool to recognize the infected persons. On the other hand, medical imaging has the ability to provide more details about COVID-19 infection, including its severity and spread, which makes it possible to evaluate the infection and follow-up the patient's state. CT scans are the most informative tool for COVID-19 infection, where the evaluation of COVID-19 infection is usually performed through infection segmentation. However, segmentation is a tedious task that requires much effort and time from expert radiologists. To deal with this limitation, an efficient framework for estimating COVID-19 infection as a regression task is proposed. The goal of the Per-COVID-19 challenge is to test the efficiency of modern deep learning methods on COVID-19 infection percentage estimation (CIPE) from CT scans. Participants had to develop an efficient deep learning approach that can learn from noisy data. In addition, participants had to cope with many challenges, including those related to COVID-19 infection complexity and crossdataset scenarios. In this paper, we introduce a novel panoptic segmentation method called the Mask-Pyramid Network. Existing Mask RCNN-based methods first generate a large number of box proposals and then filter them at each feature level, which requires a lot of computational resources, while most of the box proposals are suppressed and discarded in the Non-Maximum Suppression process. Additionally, for panoptic segmentation, it is a problem to properly fuse the semantic segmentation results with the Mask RCNN-produced instance segmentation results. To address these issues, we propose a new mask pyramid mechanism to distinguish objects and generate much fewer proposals by referring to existing segmented masks, so as to reduce computing resource consumption. The Mask-Pyramid Network generates object proposals and predicts masks from larger to smaller sizes. It records the pixel area occupied by the larger object masks, and then only generates proposals on the unoccupied areas. Each object mask is represented as a H × W × 1 logit, which fits well in format with the semantic segmentation logits. By applying SoftMax to the concatenated semantic and instance segmentation logits, it is easy and natural to fuse both segmentation results. We empirically demonstrate that the proposed Mask-Pyramid Network achieves comparable accuracy performance on the Cityscapes and COCO datasets. Organizations managing high-performance computing systems face a multitude of challenges, including overarching concerns such as overall energy consumption, microprocessor clock frequency limitations, and the escalating costs associated with chip production. Evidently, processor speeds have plateaued over the last decade, persisting within the range of 2 GHz to 5 GHz. Scholars assert that brain-inspired computing holds substantial promise for mitigating these challenges. The spiking neural network (SNN) particularly stands out for its commendable power efficiency when juxtaposed with conventional design paradigms. Nevertheless, our scrutiny has brought to light several pivotal challenges impeding the seamless implementation of large-scale neural networks (NNs) on silicon. These challenges encompass the absence of automated tools, the need for multifaceted domain expertise, and the inadequacy of existing algorithms to efficiently partition and place extensive SNN computations onto hardware infrastructure. In this paper, we posit the development of an automated tool flow capable of transmuting any NN into an SNN. This undertaking involves the creation of a novel graph-partitioning algorithm designed to strategically place SNNs on a network-on-chip (NoC), thereby paving the way for future energy-efficient and high-performance computing paradigms. The presented methodology showcases its effectiveness by successfully transforming ANN architectures into SNNs with a marginal average error penalty of merely 2.65%. The proposed graph-partitioning algorithm enables a 14.22% decrease in inter-synaptic communication and an 87.58% reduction in intra-synaptic communication, on average, underscoring the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in optimizing NN communication pathways. Compared to a baseline graph-partitioning algorithm, the proposed approach exhibits an average decrease of 79.74% in latency and a 14.67% reduction in energy consumption. Machine learning (ML) algorithms are increasingly applied to structure health monitoring (SHM) problems. However, their application to pile damage detection (PDD) is hindered by the complexity of the problem. A novel multi-sensor pile damage detection (MSPDD) method is proposed in this paper to extend the application of ML algorithms in the automatic identification of PDD. The time-series signals collected by multiple sensors during the pile integrity test are first processed by the traveling wave decomposition (TWD) theory and are then input into a hybrid one-dimensional (1D) convolutional and recurrent neural network. The hybrid neural network can achieve the automatic multi-task identification of pile damage detection based on the time series of MSPDD results. Finally, the analytical solution-based sample set is utilized to evaluate the performance of the proposed hybrid model. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been shown to produce strong results in different time series classification tasks, including the recognition of daily living activities. However, fitness activities can present unique challenges to the human activity recognition task (HAR), including greater similarity between individual activities and fewer available data for model training. In this paper, we evaluate the applicability of CNNs to the fitness activity recognition task (FAR) using IMU data and determine the impact of input data size and sensor count on performance. For this purpose, we adapted three existing CNN architectures to the FAR task and designed a fourth CNN variant, which we call the scaling fully convolutional network (Scaling-FCN). We designed a preprocessing pipeline and recorded a running exercise data set with 20 participants, in which we evaluated the respective recognition performances of the four networks, comparing them with three traditional machine learning (ML) methods commonly used in HAR. Although CNN architectures achieve at least 94% test accuracy in all scenarios, two traditional ML architectures surpass them in the default scenario, with support vector machines (SVMs) achieving 99.00 ± 0.34% test accuracy. The removal of all sensors except one foot sensor reduced the performance of traditional ML architectures but improved the performance of CNN architectures on our data set, with our Scaling-FCN reaching the highest accuracy of 99.86 ± 0.11% on the test set. Our results suggest that CNNs are generally well suited for fitness activity recognition, and noticeable performance improvements can be achieved if sensors are dropped selectively, although traditional ML architectures can still compete with or even surpass CNNs when favorable input data are utilized. Automatic extraction of building contours from high-resolution images is of great significance in the fields of urban planning, demographics, and disaster assessment. Network models based on convolutional neural network (CNN) and transformer technology have been widely used for semantic segmentation of buildings from high resolution remote sensing images (HRSI). However, the fixed geometric structure and the local receptive field of the convolutional kernel are not good at global feature extraction, and the transformer technique with self-attention mechanism introduces computational redundancies and extracts local feature details poorly in the process of modeling the global contextual information. In this paper, a dual-branch fused reconstructive transformer network, DFRTNet, is proposed for efficient and accurate building extraction. In the encoder, the traditional transformer is reconfigured by designing the local and global feature extraction module (LGFE); the branch of global feature extraction (GFE) performs dynamic range attention (DRA) based on the idea of top-k attention for extracting global features; furthermore, the branch of local feature extraction (LFE) is used to obtain fine-grained features. The multilayer perceptron (MLP) is employed to efficiently fuse the local and global features. In the decoder, a simple channel attention module (CAM) is used in the up-sampling part to enhance channel dimension features. This paper presents an on-chip implementation of an analog processor-in-memory (PIM)-based convolutional neural network (CNN) in a biosensor. The operator was designed with low power to implement CNN as an on-chip device on the biosensor, which consists of plates of 32 × 32 material. In this paper, 10T SRAM-based analog PIM, which performs multiple and average (MAV) operations with multiplication and accumulation (MAC), is used as a filter to implement CNN at low power. PIM proceeds with MAV operations, with feature extraction as a filter, using an analog method. To prepare the input feature, an input matrix is formed by scanning a 32 × 32 biosensor based on a digital controller operating at 32 MHz frequency. Memory reuse techniques were applied to the analog SRAM filter, which is the core of low power implementation, and in order to accurately grasp the MAC operational efficiency and classification, we modeled and trained numerous input features based on biosignal data, confirming the classification. When the learned weight data was input, 19 mW of power was consumed during analog-based MAC operation. The implementation showed an energy efficiency of 5.38 TOPS/W and was differentiated through the implementation of 8 bits of high resolution in the 180 nm CMOS process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A fully autonomous vehicle must ensure not only fully autonomous driving but also the safety and comfort of its passengers. However, the self-driving technology that is currently completed focuses only on perfect driving and does not guarantee the safety and comfort of passengers. This paper proposes a braking-pressure and driving-direction determination system (BDDS), which computes the brake pressure and steering angle optimized for passenger safety by utilizing more diverse information than existing autonomous vehicles. The BDDS proposed in this paper consists of two modules. The road roughness classification module (RRCM) classifies the roughness of the road by using the pressure data applied to the suspension and the K-NN algorithm and computes the optimal brake pressure. The passenger recognition and sharing module (PRSM) identifies the current occupant status of the vehicle by using a body pressure sensor and CNN, shares the information with surrounding vehicles, and computes the optimal steering angle using passenger information and road information. As a result of the simulations described in this paper, the parameters of AI models were optimized. In addition, the RRCS was about 7% more accurate than the K-means clustering algorithm, and PRS was about 9% more accurate than the existing seat recognition system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a new method of impact classification for a Structural Health Monitoring system through the use of Self-Attention, the central building block of the Transformer neural network. As a topical and highly promising neural network architecture, the Transformer has the potential to greatly improve the speed and robustness of impact detection. This paper investigates the suitability of this new network, confronting the advantages and disadvantages offered by the Transformer and a well-known and established neural network for impact detection, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The comparison is undertaken on performance, scalability, and computational time. The inputs to the networks were created using a data transformation technique, which transforms the raw time series data collected from the network of piezoelectric sensors, installed on a composite panel, through the use of Fourier Transform.
