Globally, monitoring productivity, occupational health, and safety of construction workers has long been a significant concern. To address this issue, there is an urgent need for efficient methods to continuously monitor construction sites and recognize workers' actions in a timely manner. Recently, advances in electronic technology and pose estimation algorithms have made it easier to obtain skeleton and joint trajectories of human bodies. Deep learning algorithms have emerged as robust and automated tools for extracting and processing 3D skeleton information on construction sites, proving effective for workforce action assessment. However, most previous studies on action recognition have primarily focused on single-stream data, which limited the network's ability to capture more comprehensive worker action features. Therefore, this research proposes a Spatial-Temporal Multi-Feature Network (STMF-Net) designed to utilize six 3D skeleton-based features to monitor and capture the movements of construction workers, thereby recognizing their actions. The experimental results demonstrate an accuracy of 79.36%. The global concern regarding the monitoring of construction workers' activities necessitates an efficient means of continuous monitoring for timely action recognition at construction sites. This paper introduces a novel approach—the multi-scale graph strategy—to enhance feature extraction in complex networks. At the core of this strategy lies the multi-feature fusion network (MF-Net), which employs multiple scale graphs in distinct network streams to capture both local and global features of crucial joints. This approach extends beyond local relationships to encompass broader connections, including those between the head and foot, as well as interactions like those involving the head and neck. By integrating diverse scale graphs into distinct network streams, we effectively incorporate physically unrelated information, aiding in the extraction of vital local joint contour features. Furthermore, we introduce velocity and acceleration as temporal features, fusing them with spatial features to enhance informational efficacy and the model's performance. Finally, efficiency-enhancing measures, such as a bottleneck structure and a branch-wise attention block, are implemented to optimize computational resources while enhancing feature discriminability. This paper presents the development and implementation of an application that recognizes American Sign Language signs with the use of deep learning algorithms based on convolutional neural network architectures. The project implementation includes the development of a training set, the preparation of a module that converts photos to a form readable by the artificial neural network, the selection of the appropriate neural network architecture and the development of the model. The neural network undergoes a learning process, and its results are verified accordingly. An internet application that allows recognition of sign language based on a sign from any photo taken by the user is implemented, and its results are analyzed. The network effectiveness ratio reaches 99% for the training set. Nevertheless, conclusions and recommendations are formulated to improve the operation of the application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To reduce the pain and the probability of cross-infection caused by the invasive blood glucose testing instruments, the ex vivo glucose measurement is of high significance. The electrical property of blood varies with the density of the glucose, which can be sensed by measuring its reflected coefficient in millimeter-wave. In this article, we built a contactless glucose solution concentration measurement system based on 77-GHz FMCW radar. Several preliminary signal processing algorithms are cascaded with a deep neural network to improve the accuracy of glucose solution concentration measurement. Our experiment shows that the resolution of this ex vivo glucose measurement can achieve up to 0.1 mg/mL. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Electrical resistivity is used to obtain various types of information for soil strata. Hence,the prediction of electrical resistivity is helpful to predict the future behavior of soil. The objective of this study is to apply deep learning algorithms, including deep neural network (DNN), long-shortterm memory (LSTM), and gated recurrent unit (GRU), to determine the reliability of electrical resistivity predictions to find the discontinuity of porosity and hydraulic conductivity. New DNN-based algorithms, i.e., LSTM-DNN and GRU-DNN, are also applied in this study. The electrical resistivity values are obtained using 101 electrodes installed at 2 m intervals on a mountaintop,and a Wenner array is selected to simplify the electrode installation and measurement. A total of 1650 electrical resistivity values are obtained for one measurement considering the electrode spacing,and accumulated data measured for 15 months are used in the deep learning analysis. A constant ratio of 6:2:2 among the training, validation, and test data, respectively, is used for the measured electrical resistivity, and the hyperparameters in each algorithm are moderated to improve the reliability. Based on the deep learning model results, the distributions of porosity and hydraulic conductivity are deduced, and an average depth of 25 m is estimated for the discontinuity depth. Track status classification is essential for the stability and safety of railway operations nowadays, when railway networks are becoming more and more complex and broad. In this situation, monitoring systems are already a key element in applications dedicated to evaluating the status of a certain track section, often determining whether it is free or occupied by a train. Different technologies have already been involved in the design of monitoring systems, including ultrasonic guided waves (UGW). This work proposes the use of the UGW signals captured by a track monitoring system to extract the features that are relevant for determining the corresponding track section status. For that purpose, three features of UGW signals have been considered: the root mean square value, the energy, and the main frequency components. Experimental results successfully validated how these features can be used to classify the track section status into free, occupied and broken. Furthermore, spatial and temporal dependencies among these features were analysed in order to show how they can improve the final classification performance.
