Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is a rapidly developing emerging non-invasive biomedical imaging technique that combines the strong contrast from optical absorption imaging and the high resolution from acoustic imaging. Abnormal biological tissues (such as tumors and inflammation) generate different levels of thermal expansion after absorbing optical energy, producing distinct acoustic signals from normal tissues. This technique can detect small tissue lesions in biological tissues and has demonstrated significant potential for applications in tumor research, melanoma detection, and cardiovascular disease diagnosis. During the process of collecting photoacoustic signals in a PAI system, various factors can influence the signals, such as absorption, scattering, and attenuation in biological tissues. A single ultrasound transducer cannot provide sufficient information to reconstruct high-precision photoacoustic images. To obtain more accurate and clear image reconstruction results, PAI systems typically use a large number of ultrasound transducers to collect multi-channel signals from different angles and positions, thereby acquiring more information about the photoacoustic signals. Therefore, to reconstruct high-quality photoacoustic images, PAI systems require a significant number of measurement signals, which can result in substantial hardware and time costs. Compressed sensing is an algorithm that breaks through the Nyquist sampling theorem and can reconstruct the original signal with a small number of measurement signals. PAI based on compressed sensing has made breakthroughs over the past decade, enabling the reconstruction of low artifacts and high-quality images with a small number of photoacoustic measurement signals, improving time efficiency, and reducing hardware costs. This article provides a detailed introduction to PAI based on compressed sensing, such as the physical transmission model-based compressed sensing method, two-stage reconstruction-based compressed sensing method, and single-pixel camera-based compressed sensing method. The existing ultrasonic thickness measurement systems require high sampling frequencies for echo signal acquisition, leading to complex circuit designs and high costs. Moreover, extracting the characteristics of ultrasonic echo signals for accurate thickness measurement poses significant challenges. To address these issues, this paper proposes a method that utilizes conventional sampling frequencies to acquire high-frequency ultrasonic echo signals, overcoming the limitations of high-frequency data acquisition imposed by the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem. By employing an improved sampling reconstruction technique, the multi-cycle sampling signals are reconstructed and rearranged within a single cycle, effectively increasing the equivalent sampling frequency. Additionally, a combination of coarse estimation using fast Fourier transform (FFT) and precise phase extraction using the moving sine fitting algorithm is proposed for accurate thickness measurement, resolving the limitations of common thickness measurement methods such as peak detection, envelope detection, and Hilbert autocorrelation in terms of low measurement accuracy. Experimental results obtained from thickness measurements on 45 steel ultrasonic test blocks within the range of 3 mm to 20 mm indicate a measurement error of ±0.01 mm, while for thicknesses ranging from 1 mm to 50 mm, the measurement error is ±0.05 mm. Single-pixel imaging (SPI) uses a single-pixel detector instead of a detector array with a lot of pixels in traditional imaging techniques to realize two-dimensional or even multi-dimensional imaging. For SPI using compressed sensing, the target to be imaged is illuminated by a series of patterns with spatial resolution, and then the reflected or transmitted intensity is compressively sampled by the single-pixel detector to reconstruct the target image while breaking the limitation of the Nyquist sampling theorem. Recently, in the area of signal processing using compressed sensing, many measurement matrices as well as reconstruction algorithms have been proposed. It is necessary to explore the application of these methods in SPI. Therefore, this paper reviews the concept of compressive sensing SPI and summarizes the main measurement matrices and reconstruction algorithms in compressive sensing. Further, the performance of their applications in SPI through simulations and experiments is explored in detail, and then their advantages and disadvantages are summarized. The Fresnel transform (FrT) is commonly used to describe the free-space propagation of optical waves. In this work, we present new definitions for the convolution, correlation and generalized shift operations based on the FrT. The generalized shift operation is defined by using simultaneous space and phase shifts. The generalized shift operation is useful for centred optical systems in the Fresnel domain (FrD) when the data distributions at the input plane of the optical system are shifted. The new convolution and correlation operations defined in terms of the FrT, the wavelength and the propagation distance, can be considered as a generalization of the usual convolution and correlation operations. The sampling theorem for distributions, whose resulting FrT has finite support, is formulated by using the new convolution operation introduced in this work and a new definition of the Dirac comb function. These new definitions and results could be applied to describe, design and implement optical processing systems related to the FrT. Finally, we present a centred optical systems used in holography and optical security systems that can be described or modelled by the new definitions of the operations proposed in this paper. Recently, the frequent occurrence of the misuse and intrusion of UAVs has made it a research challenge to identify and detect them effectively, and relatively high bandwidth and pressure on data transmission and real-time processing exist when sampling UAV communication signals using the RF detection method. In this paper, firstly, for data sampling, we chose a compressed sensing technique to replace the traditional sampling theorem and used a multi-channel random demodulator to sample the signal; secondly, for the detection and identification of the presence, type, and flight pattern of UAVs, a multi-stage deep learning-based UAV identification and detection method was proposed by exploiting the difference in communication signals between UAVs and controllers under different circumstances. The data samples are first passed by detectors that detect the presence of UAVs, then classifiers are used to identify the type of UAVs, and finally flight patterns are judged by the corresponding classifiers, for which two neural network structures (DNN and CNN) are constructed by deep learning algorithms and evaluated and validated by a 10-fold cross-validation method, with the DNN network used for detectors and the CNN network for subsequent type and flying mode classification. The experimental results demonstrate, first, the effectiveness of using compressed sensing for sampling the communication signals of UAVs and controllers; and second, the detecting method with multi-stage DL detects higher efficiency and accuracy compared with existing detecting methods, detecting the presence, type, and flight model of UAVs with an accuracy of over 99%. In this paper, we propose a novel energy-efficient approach for mobile activity recognition system (ARS) to detect human activities. The proposed energy-efficient ARS, using low sampling rates, can achieve high recognition accuracy and low energy consumption. A novel classifier that integrates hierarchical support vector machine and context-based classification (HSVMCC) is presented to achieve a high accuracy of activity recognition when the sampling rate is less than the activity frequency, i.e., the Nyquist sampling theorem is not satisfied. We tested the proposed energy-efficient approach with the data collected from 20 volunteers (14 males and six females) and the average recognition accuracy of around 96.0% was achieved. Results show that using a low sampling rate of 1Hz can save 17.3% and 59.6% of energy compared with the sampling rates of 5 Hz and 50 Hz. The proposed low sampling rate approach can greatly reduce the power consumption while maintaining high activity recognition accuracy. Compressive sensing (CS) is a new technology in digital signal processing capable of high-resolution capture of physical signals from few measurements, which promises impressive improvements in the field of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this work, we extensively investigate the effectiveness of compressive sensing (CS) when real COTSresource-constrained sensor nodes are used for compression, evaluating how the different parameters can affect the energy consumption and the lifetime of the device. Using data from a real dataset, we compare an implementation of CS using dense encoding matrices, where samples are gathered at a Nyquist rate, with the reconstruction of signals sampled at a sub-Nyquist rate. The quality of recovery is addressed, and several algorithms are used for reconstruction exploiting the intra- and inter-signal correlation structures. We finally define an optimal under-sampling ratio and reconstruction algorithm capable of achieving the best reconstruction at the minimum energy spent for the compression. Compressed sensing (CS) has been proposed to improve the efficiency of signal processing by simultaneously sampling and compressing the signal of interest under the assumption that the signal is sparse in a certain domain. This paper aims to improve the CS system performance by constructing a novel sparsifying dictionary and optimizing the measurement matrix. Owing to the adaptability and robustness of the Takenaka–Malmquist (TM) functions in system identification, the use of it as the basis function of a sparsifying dictionary makes the represented signal exhibit a sparser structure than the existing sparsifying dictionaries. To reduce the mutual coherence between the dictionary and the measurement matrix, an equiangular tight frame (ETF) based iterative minimization algorithm is proposed. In our approach, we modify the singular values without changing the properties of the corresponding Gram matrix of the sensing matrix to enhance the independence between the column vectors of the Gram matrix. Simulation results demonstrate the promising performance of the proposed algorithm as well as the superiority of the CS system, designed with the constructed sparsifying dictionary and the optimized measurement matrix, over existing ones in terms of signal recovery accuracy. Important state parameters, such as torque and angle obtained from the servo control and drive system, can reflect the operating condition of the equipment. However, there are two problems with the information obtained through the network from the control and drive system: the low sampling rate, which does not meet the sampling theorem and the nonuniformity of the sampling points. By combing equivalent sampling and nonuniform signal reconstruction theory, this paper proposes a reconstruction method for signal obtained from servo system in periodic reciprocating motion. Equivalent sampling combines the low rate and nonuniform samples from multiple periods into one single period, so that the equivalent sampling rate is far increased. Then, the nonuniform samples with high density are further resampled to meet the reconstruction conditions. This step can avoid the amplitude error in the reconstructed signal and increase the possibility of successful reconstruction. Finally, the reconstruction formula derived from basis theory is applied to recover the signal. By means of compressive sampling (CS), a sparse signal can be efficiently recovered from its far fewer samples than that required by the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem. However, recovering a speech signal from its CS samples is a challenging problem, as it is not sparse enough on any existing canonical basis. To solve this problem, we propose a method which combines the approximate message passing (AMP) and Markov chain that exploits the dependence between the modified discrete cosine transform (MDCT) coefficients of a speech signal. To reconstruct the speech signal from CS samples, a turbo framework, which alternately iterates AMP and belief propagation along the Markov chain, is utilized. In addtion, a constrain is set to the turbo iteration to prevent the new method from divergence. Extensive experiments show that, compared to other traditional CS methods, the new method achieves a higher signal-to-noise ratio, and a higher perceptual evaluation of speech quality (PESQ) score. At the same time, it maintaines a better similarity of the energy distribution to the original speech spectrogram. In this paper, a wavenumber–searching method based on time-domain compensation is proposed to obtain the wavenumber of the Lamb wave array received signal. In the proposed method, the time-domain sampling signal of the linear piezoelectric transducer (PZT) sensor array is converted into a spatial sampling signal using the searching wavenumber. The two–dimensional time-spatial-domain Lamb wave received signal of the linear PZT sensor array is then converted into a one-dimensional synthesized spatial sampling signal. Further, the sum of squared errors between the synthesized spatial sampling signal and its Morlet wavelet fitting signal is calculated at each searching wavenumber. Finally, the wavenumber of the Lamb wave array received signal is obtained as the searching wavenumber corresponding to the minimum error. This method was validated on a 2024-T3 aluminum alloy. The validation results showed that the proposed method can successfully obtain the wavenumber of the Lamb wave array received signal, whose spatial sampling rate does not satisfy the Nyquist sampling theorem; the wavenumber error does not exceed 2.2 rad/m. Damage localization based on the proposed method was also validated on a carbon fiber composite laminate plate, and the maximum damage localization error was no more than 2.11 cm. The Nyquist folding receiver (NYFR) can achieve a high-probability interception of an ultra-wideband (UWB) signal with fewer devices, while the output of the NYFR is converted into a hybrid modulated signal of the local oscillator (LO) and the received signal, which requires the matching parameter estimation methods. The linear frequency modulation (LFM) signal is a typical low probability of intercept (LPI) radar signal. In this paper, an estimation method of both the Nyquist Zone (NZ) index and the chirp rate for the LFM signal intercepted by NYFR was proposed. First, according to the time-frequency characteristics of the LFM signal, the accurate NZ and the rough chirp rate was estimated based on least squares (LS) and random sample consensus (RANSAC). Then, the information of the LO was removed from the hybrid modulated signal by the known NZ, and the precise chirp rate was obtained by using the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT). Moreover, a fast search method of FrFT optimal order was presented, which could obviously reduce the computational complexity. On-line vibration monitoring is significant for high-speed rotating blades, and blade tip-timing (BTT) is generally regarded as a promising solution. BTT methods must assume that rotating speeds are constant. This assumption is impractical, and blade damages are always formed and accumulated during variable operational conditions. Thus, how to carry out BTT vibration monitoring under variable rotation speed (VRS) is a big challenge. Angular sampling-based order analyses have been widely used for vibration signals in rotating machinery with variable speeds. However, BTT vibration signals are well under-sampled, and Shannon's sampling theorem is not satisfied so that existing order analysis methods will not work well. To overcome this problem, a reconstructed order analysis-based BTT vibration monitoring method is proposed in this paper. First, the effects of VRS on BTT vibration monitoring are analyzed, and the basic structure of angular sampling-based BTT vibration monitoring under VRS is presented. Then a band-pass sampling-based engine order (EO) reconstruction algorithm is proposed for uniform BTT sensor configuration so that few BTT sensors can be used to extract high EOs. In addition, a periodically non-uniform sampling-based EO reconstruction algorithm is proposed for non-uniform BTT sensor configuration. Next, numerical simulations are done to validate the two reconstruction algorithms. In the end, an experimental set-up is built. Both uniform and non-uniform BTT vibration signals are collected, and reconstructed order analysis are carried out. Simulation and experimental results testify that the proposed algorithms can accurately capture characteristic high EOs of synchronous and asynchronous vibrations under VRS by using few BTT sensors.
