Abstract

Boron nitride hollow spheres were synthesized by the reaction of BBr3 and NaNH2 at room temperature; X-ray powder diffraction pattern could be indexed as hexagonal BN with the lattice constants of a=2.482 and c=6.701 A˚; high-resolution transmission electron microscopy image showed the hollow spheres consisted of BN nanoparticles, with diameter between 80 and 300 nm; a possible formation mechanism of BN hollow spheres was discussed. Abstract

Abstract: We describe one convenient synthesis route to boron nitride (BN) nanotube by the reaction of boron powder, iron oxide, and ammonium chloride at 600°C for 12h. Characterized by XRD, FTIR, XPS, TEM and SAED, the composition and morphology of the products are confirmed. The possible reaction mechanism is also discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
